Welcome to Kidz Watch

Meet Julie and family!

Maggie, Julie and William…the first two Kidz Watch kids!

I started this concept in 2002 after meeting many parents frustrated with their childcare options and the lack of high-quality, accessible childcare. Frequent moves throughout the US and Canada exposed our family to many different childcare models and the need for flexible care and lack of it became something I could not ignore.
After settling in the Midwest in 2002, we founded Kidz Watch Drop-In Childcare in the beautiful community of Sylvania, Ohio. As a certified educator and experienced early-childhood education teacher, I carefully planned and developed Ohio’s first state-licensed, hourly childcare and flexible care center. With more than two decades of experience in the field, the Kidz Watch team is constantly researching, updating and adding value to our services.
Prior to founding Kidz Watch, I taught elementary school and preschool. I have a B.A. and B.Ed from Queen’s University in Kingston Ontario and being the perpetual believer in education I am currently working on my Master’s in Education Leadership.   I have consulted with several like-minded entrepreneurs to help open similar concept centers around the United States under the DropInChildCare.com banner. Visit www.dropinchildcare.com for more details if you would like to open your own center!

Our Mission

Kidz Watch …Trusted Hourly and flexible full time childcare….putting time back on the side of families

Kidz Watch is designed to give time back to families and to provide families with top rate, affordable care.   Our goal for drop in children is to provide children with a safe and secure environment where they can learn through play.  Our program is play based and a curriculum is built around it.  According to Jean Piaget, “play is a child’s work.” Children need time to learn and experience the world through role play. The fulltime curriculum follows the CREATIVE CURRICULUM  and is designed to create enthusiasm for learning and build school readiness skills.  Infants and toddlers have their own program designed to develop gross and fine motor skills, as well as provide music, language, art, cognitive, social and sensory experiences.

We accept children from 6 weeks through 12 years old. Reservations are required for infants.

Small-Group Projects

Our program provides large group, small group and individual activities with a mixture of teacher directed and child chosen activities. Instruction is based on children’s individual needs, interests, strengths and learning styles. Topics of study are theme based and based on the interests of the children as well.
Our developmental appropriate activities and materials help the students make sense of the world around them through a playful, challenging and rewarding program.

Child Assessment

To assess children’s development and growth, we use the creative curriculum “GOLD” Assessment. Assessment is an integral part of the program and guides the work we do with each child. Each lead teacher and much of the support staff have been trained and participate in ongoing training in the use and implementation of the Creative Curriculum. The purposes of assessment are 1) to identify the needs, interests, skills and abilities of the children enrolled. 2) to compare the developmental progress of the child to the Developmental Continuum ( Creative Curriculum) 3)
to use the information gathered to share with the parents and to inform the curriculum and preparation of the learning environment.

As much as possible assessment information is gathered in a naturalistic (classroom) environment and on demand testing is reserved for limited usage. The assessment tool utilized is the Creative Curriculum Developmental Continuum(which assures continuity between classroom curriculum and assessment). Our Assessment process is multifaceted and includes: the individual Child Profile (checklist) and Child Progress and Planning Report, individual portfolio notebooks and journals hold sample work, photos and observations of each child; anecdotal records and other teacher created and Creative Curriculum assessment forms. The portfolios and journals are readily available in the classrooms for parents to view at any time. Anecdotal records, teacher notes and the Developmental Continuum forms are secured to protect the privacy of the family. These records are only available to the Teacher, Assistant Teacher, Director and parents. All assessment information is shared and discussed with parents during conferences in January and May when the family is offered the opportunity to also contribute comments and observations and individualized goals are established. Any parent interested in seeing copies of the Developmental continuum and Child Progress and Planning Report may do so by requesting a copy from the Director. If there are concerns about the form or technique used for Child Assessment please contact the Director.
In the event of Special Needs Issues, modifications to the assessment techniques may be implemented in order to best meet the needs of the individual child.

    Excellent park with extreme slides.

When I travel, I try not to miss visiting extreme amusement parks. One of these is Cedar Point. The quality of entertainment is worthy of the Six Flags park in Los Angeles and Mirabilandia in Italy. nine0483 I advise you to buy a ticket via the Internet, it turns out about 1. 5 times cheaper. Entrance after 16.00 is also at a big discount.

    Palace of delicious food

Being in the USA (Cleveland) for a rather long period of time, they suddenly encountered a food problem (products in stores did not fit into our idea of healthy food). Rescued the advice of the hostess – to visit the market. It turned out to be not only useful and tasty, but also interesting. The market was built in the late 19th century. It has been beautifully restored and is used strictly for its intended purpose. The products of local Bohemian, Magyar, etc. are presented. communities. And of course the products of the Amish country. We recommend to visit – expensive, but tasty! nine0003

    Interesting for children and adults!

There are many interesting animals and birds in the zoo, a beautiful area, vegetation, a lake, etc. During the celebration of Christmas, the zoo organizes a festival of Christmas lights and then the zoo turns into a beautiful fairy tale, where you can get a magical charge for the rest of the year! What are the musical lights on the lake in the zoo! You can also ride a small train around the lake and enjoy the views. Near the zoo there is a botanical garden and there are a lot of beautiful flowers, especially tropical ones, there are small ponds with fish and a butterfly bench. Speaking of butterflies… sometimes tropical butterflies are brought to the territory of the botanical garden and everyone can see them on their hand, because butterflies are very trusting. You will get a lot of positive by traveling to the Cincinnati Zoo and the Botanical Garden as well! nine0003

    Beautiful botanical garden with additions

This is a small, mostly indoor botanical garden. It is small, less than a dozen pavilions. As is customary in a botanical garden, the pavilions are divided into themes – tropical forest, desert, banzai, etc. Everything is very well-groomed and caresses the eye. There are not only plants and paths, but also glass sculptures, a pond with fish, a toy railway. Butterfly breeding project gives a special charm to the garden. The visitor can watch “live” the whole process of becoming a butterfly, meet with a variety of butterflies in some pavilions. Children will be delighted! I can’t find anything negative to say about this place. nine0003

    A store with a history

After reading all the reviews, I thought I should definitely check it out. Why do Americans say that this store is the best thing in their lives. Actually, it turned out to be nothing special. Just an old market, with a larger assortment than usual. There are a lot of Korean, Chinese products and from different countries of the world, some sweets, cookies, spices and other nonsense, which is not worth attention, but it still fills the counters. American whole foods are much better. However, it is up to you to decide whether to go or not. nine0003

    “Imagination Station Fun”

    May 2017

I visited Imagination Station in May with my four year old daughter. There were many different hands on events for her to choose from. She really enjoyed having small children. We probably spent 1.5 hours in where she played ambulance, took X-doll beams, shopped in the kitchen, etc. At the same time, we also participated in a lively science show. All ages will love it. We will definitely return.

    “hands on fun”

    July 2017

We only had one in Toledo so we figured it looked like something the kids would love. I was able to use his Franklin Institute membership since he was better off going to the museum as an added bonus. We arrived shortly after opening in the morning and were there most of the day. There were no crowds and the kids could easily get to all the exhibits. The kids didn’t complain about being bored once! nine0003

Worth a stop if you have kids in the area 2022

Second visit for us. We live a bit of a drive away but have stopped to play here twice now when coming to town to visit the Toledo Zoo. Definitely worth checking out, especially for kids. Honestly, my 4 year old will happily spend hours in the little kid area playing doctor and grocery store clerk. nine0003

Something for every age of kids – but honestly as an adult I get a bit bored. I do hate that adult entry is so much. …especially since my kiddo is little and only wants to be in the little kid area…not much for me to do but play on my phone.

But still worth it for how much fun she has in there. 5 stars just for the kids section!

Great stop if you’ve had too much sun or get rained out of other activities.

    Great for Kids

    Apr. 2022 • Family Fun

The Imagination Station is a very well done Children’s Museum with a lot of different attractions. For anyone with young kids in the midwest, you really should make this a priority. nine0483 There is a movie theater built on that requires an extra ticket. If you’ve never been before and you have kids, you probably won’t have time to do everything. There are a lot of hands on activities all throughout so your kids will be challenged and edu-tained throughout your stay.
The high wire bike is popular as it runs over the main plaza. There will probably be a wait so don’t get too hung up on that. The sideways room was my daughter’s favorite as she treated it like a slide. There will probably be a wait for that one too. What makes this place extra nice and different from your typical children’s Museum is how the exhibits are built. They aren’t plain rooms with the exhibits and stations but really well thought out scenes where kids feel like they are at a hospital or grocery store. They put some really good thought into the aesthetics and look of the areas. The sections are broken down by age appropriateness and sensory modalities. Some areas, like the tinkering room, may not do as much for the younger members of your party while the younger age sections may seem boring for the older kids. There truly is something for each kid if not everything. nine0003

    Hours of fun

    June 2021

We brought two grandkids, and they had a great time. Although a few exhibits were closed, those that were opened were working properly. The biggest hits for our family were the airplane simulator, and the be-a-TV-broadcaster. The psychology-based perception exhibits were well done. The 3-D movie on superhero dogs was great, and well worth the extra cost. Staff members were uniformly friendly and helpful. The facility was clean and well-kept. I would have liked to have seen an exhibit on wind power or solar power rather than the lame one on petroleum and refining. nine0003

This is fun for kids and adults! I went when the Titanic exhibit was there, and went back a few times after! It can get overwhelming when large groups of kids are there, so if you are going with another adult or for a date day idea, I suggest not going on a weekend. nine0003

What a fun place to visit! We spent the weekend in Toledo and came here on a Sunday morning. Spent two hours in the exhibits and the kids just had a blast. Our favorite part was Mind Maze in the basement level. There is a small cafe but we didn’t eat there, and a gift shop with a bunch of science related items at the entrance. I met a friend with a 4 year old boy there with my 5 year old son. It was a great spot to meet for us and gave the kiddos a chance to burn energy. It was also a fun time for us adults!
