Here, we focus on interaction more than just entertainment. We talk with children, not at them. Our nannies are fully actively engaging with kids instead of just passively observing using “nutrient-rich” toys, games and activities that foster classic fun.

Timeless Play is the first drop-off childcare center of it’s kind in Tucson. We are making it easier for parents to take a few hours for themselves – guilt-free. 

Want to enjoy a relaxing, child-free day of errands or shopping? Need just an hour or two for a doctors appointment? When was the last time you and your spouse had dinner just the two of you? When you just need a few hours to yourself without the hassle of finding and coordinating a sitter, our high-quality, drop-off play experience is the perfect solution. We provide safe and superior care at our convenient Campbell and River location for children ages 1 to 12 years – for up to four hours.

Book your play time!  Select a day and time that works for you on our booking portal. Walk-ins are always welcome M-F 8am-6pm and Saturday 8am-9pm but we recommend making a reservation.

Start your registration. You will need to at least submit part one and part two of the registration before dropping off your child. We recommend that you do this online before you arrive. The third part of registration (paying a $40 registration) can happen after you’ve had a chance to visit and have decided you want to come back!

Yes! You can drop off kids ages 1-12 for up to 4 hours anytime during business hours. We are open M-F 8am-6pm and Saturday 8am-9pm!

What’s my kid going to do there?

Every day is different at Timeless Play. There’s always a new craft to be made, a new game or puzzle to conquer a new toy to discover or a special event to experience. But one thing never changes. Our team of Play Experts have a special magic with kids of all ages and will spend 1:1 time with your 1-12 year old and make it memorable.

Do I have to book in advance?

Well, it all depends on how much of a risk taker you are. We totally welcome walk-ins – until we reach capacity, that is. If you want to ensure there will be a spot for your child when you arrive, it’s probably best to click that gold “Book Now” button on the top right-hand corner of the website and secure your day and time. Also, at this time, we do NOT accept walk-ins between 3pm-6pm Monday through Friday. Please book at least 24 hours in advance if you want late afternoon play time.

State fines 10 Tucson child care centers for deficiencies in 2021

Ten Tucson child care facilities were fined by the state in the first six months of this year for deficiencies including lax supervision, harsh discipline methods, and failure to ensure employees did not have criminal backgrounds.

Penalties ranged from $50 to $1,900, depending on the severity of problems and history of previous violations, according to the Arizona Department of Health Services, which licenses and inspects such facilities.

Tucson is home to more than 300 licensed child care providers ranging from small-scale operators in private homes to larger entities at schools, churches or businesses.

Children’s Learning Adventure Childcare Center

Address: 3690 E. Hemisphere Loop

The center was fined $400 on April 22 for failure to supervise infants laying on their tummies, and for creating a smothering risk by leaving a pillow within reach of an infant.

It is the second fine since November 2019 when a $100 penalty was imposed for allowing a new staffer to start work without a criminal background check.

Management did not respond by deadline to a request for comment.

Herencia Guadalupana Lab Schools II

Address: 6740 S. Santa Clara Ave.

Operator incurred a $200 fine on March 30 — the second fine in less than a year — for leaving nearly a dozen school age children in a classroom unsupervised, and for failing to keep track of a 3-year-old who was in a bathroom unsupervised. An earlier penalty of $600 was imposed in June 2020 after a child escaped from the facility twice on the same day and was returned the second time by a stranger who found the child in an intersection.

Management did not respond by deadline to a request for comment.

Imagination Tree Learning Center

Address: 525 N. Grande Ave.

A $200 fine was imposed March 25 after an inspector found a staffer working there for more than a year without a criminal background check.

Mayra Jaime, the center’s director, said procedures were strengthened to prevent a recurrence.

Kids Forever Prince Center

Address: 216 E. Prince Road

The center was fined $1,900 on March 4 — its third fine in less than two years — for nearly 20 violations including leaving toxic chemicals accessible to children; insufficient staffing; unqualified staffer lacked criminal background check; exits blocked; exposed electrical outlet; staples and nails found in outdoor play area.

In 2019, a $500 fine was imposed because of two unqualified staffers, one of whom slapped a child’s face and used abusive language as a method of discipline.

Another $500 fine was levied in July 2020 for leaving a child alone in a classroom, keeping infants and 1-year-olds in an area only licensed for older children and an improperly enclosed outdoor play area.

Director Angela Fleming said the facility has received grant money to make improvements and passed a state re-inspection in June.

Kids Ville

Address: 4055 N. 1st Ave.

A $100 penalty was assessed Jan. 4 after a staffer worked for three months with an expired fingerprint card.

Director Debbie Nickell said the problem was corrected and the delay was due to slower government processing of background check applications during the pandemic.

KinderCare Learning Center

Address: 8277 E. Golf Links Road

The center was fined $200 on March 5 for improper disciplinary methods. One staffer sprayed water in a child’s face, another yanked a child’s arm so roughly the child fell into a diapering table and injured their head.

Management did not respond by deadline to a request for comment.

La Casita Day Care Center

Address: 1902 S. Jefferson Ave.

A $500 fine was imposed April 22 because of insufficient playground staffing — one adult for 13 children — and for repeatedly leaving children unsupervised while staffers performed other tasks such as making phone calls and interacting with parents.

Management declined to comment.

Olga and Bob Strauss Center for Early Childhood Education

Address: 225 N. Country Club Road

The center was fined $200 on June 4 for improper discipline when a staffer smacked a child’s arm as punishment for touching another child’s face.

Center director Lyn Henry said the center is committed to children’s health and safety and has rectified the problem.

Reaching Milestones Learning Center

Address: 1101 S. Columbus Blvd.

A $100 fine was levied June 24 for allowing a staffer to work without a criminal background check.

Management did not respond by deadline to a request for comment.

YMCA-Mulcahy City

Address: 5085 S. Nogales Highway

A $50 fine was imposed June 14 for allowing a staffer to start work without a criminal background check.

Marketing director Lauren Burgoyne said the situation was due to a paperwork error and has been corrected.

“Oceans can be everywhere”: life can be found under the skin of the Death Star

Simulations show that Saturn’s moon Mimas — the smallest celestial body that is spherical due to its own gravity and looks like the Death Star from Star Wars — may be hiding an ocean buried under a 28-kilometer layer of ice.

A new study by American astronomers has shown that Saturn’s moon Mimas can hide an invisible ocean of liquid water under a 28-kilometer layer of ice, and therefore the possibility of the existence of primitive life there cannot be ruled out. So far, no traces of water breaking through the ice shell have been found, so conclusions about the presence of the ocean are made only on the basis of numerical simulations. The combination of tidal heating caused by Saturn’s gravity, calculated from the slight eccentricity (elongation) of its orbit and its own libration (wiggle), should melt the ice in the interior of this satellite. The corresponding article was published in the journal Icarus .

Mimas is the closest large moon to Saturn, its diameter is 396 km. It was discovered on September 17, 1789 by William Herschel and several decades later named after one of the titans of Greek mythology – at the suggestion of the discoverer’s son John Herschel, made by him in his 1847 work.

Mimas is considered the twentieth largest satellite in the solar system, while it turns out to be the smallest known cosmic body that has a spherical shape due to its own gravity. Its slight elongation is explained by the influence of Saturn’s gravity. Mimas’s orbit has only a very small eccentricity of 0.0196, which is a nearly perfect circle. Its orbital radius is 185,539 km and it fluctuates around 7300 km. A little closer to Mimas – 18 thousand km – is Aegeon, a little further – Methone – 8.9thousand km. Together with other moons, Mimas affects the rings of Saturn, creating gaps in them, also giving rise to density waves and bends.

Mimas is recognizable due to its huge impact crater, much larger than any other crater on its surface. This crater was named Herschel in honor of the discoverer of the satellite.

The diameter of the crater is 130-140 km – a third of the diameter of Mimas itself, the height of the edges is almost 5 km, the depth is 10 km. The impact that created this crater almost split the entire satellite, and there are noticeable cracks on its opposite side.

Observations made in 2014-2015 by the NASA Cassini robotic interplanetary station, which approached the satellite several times and took detailed pictures of it, hinted that water may be contained under the surface of Mimas, but direct confirmation of its presence has not been received. Now, simulations by Alyssa Roden of the Southwestern Research Institute in Boulder, Colorado, and Matthew Walker of the Planetary Science Institute in Tucson, Arizona, suggest such a possibility.

Researchers have studied the processes by which Saturn’s gravity can heat up the interior of the moon and melt the internal ice. It is noteworthy that initially they, on the contrary, wanted to prove that Mimas cannot have any ocean.

The low density of Mimas suggests that it is composed almost entirely of water ice, but there are no signs of seepage water on its surface. “When we look at a body like Mimas, we see that this is a small, cold, dead world,” New Scientist Alissa Roden, lead author of this new study. “If you put a photo of Mimas in a gallery with a bunch of other icy moons, you never think it has anything special about it that says it has an ocean.”

However, observations made by Cassini show that the moon does wobble a bit as it orbits Saturn, suggesting something unusual under the ice. Scientists have modeled how the interior of Mimas can deform and heat up under the influence of Saturn’s gravity, and evaluated the behavior of its icy outer shell in this case. It turned out that even such gravitational heating would be quite enough to support the global ocean, consisting of liquid water, at depths of 24-31 km – depending on the rheology (fluidity and plasticity) of the ice, the temperature on its surface and the distribution of heat flows – and this depth is also sufficient so that the thick ice crust does not crack and does not let water geysers to the surface, as on other similar satellites with hypothetical underwater oceans – like Jupiter’s Europa and Enceladus – the sixth largest satellite of Saturn.

“The Cassini mission has changed the way we think about where life could have originated outside our Earth,” said Andrew Coates of the Space Research Laboratory at University College London. “In addition to Mars, now the satellites of the outer planets, such as Enceladus, Europa and Titan, are also candidates for the existence of life on them. We have completely rewritten textbooks on Saturn.”

“The ocean inside Mimas would be a surprising phenomenon, given its lack of geologic activity comparable to that seen on other moons with subglacial oceans such as Europa and Enceladus. Thus, all this is of decisive importance for the assessment of the prevalence and identification of worlds with oceans, the researchers write in their article in Icarus. “We find that, using the most reasonable assumptions, Mimas should have a fairly thick ice shell and subglacial ocean.”

“There are many icy satellites in our solar system, and if Mimas can have an ocean, then any of these satellites can also have one,” says Alyssa Roden. “The more we study the mechanisms that can form such oceans, the more we will learn about the possible habitable environments present in our solar system.”

Among other things, the new study also discusses the possibility of making new observations that could answer the question of the reality of the existence of subglacial oceans on Mimas and other similar satellites.

how firefighters fought the fire in Kostanay region

The most important thing for any firefighter is to return home. The work in which you daily face other people’s tragedies, pain, death of people cannot leave anyone indifferent. But it’s also difficult that every shift you throw yourself into the cycle of accidents, saving others and risking yourself. These are all firefighters, people from the same service who are among the first to rush to help. Sometimes at the cost of their lives, transmits Azattyq Rýhy .

Murat Baltabaev was born in the Kokshetau region, lived in one of the villages of the Zerenda region until the 9th grade, then entered the college as a lawyer, after which he received a higher education in the specialty “jurisprudence”. While studying at the correspondence department, he joined the army, and upon his return he got a job in the fire station No. 1 of Kokshetau. He admits that he chose the profession by accident, his mother offered to work, he decided to try, to see what would come of it for a year or two.

“I thought I would find a “paper” job later, but I got sucked in. In 2010, he entered the Kazakh Technical Institute in the correspondence department, studied for four years and received the rank of officer. After that, he continued to work in the Astrakhan region, the village of Astrakhanka, as the head of the HPV-19 guard, ”says Baltabaev.

He admits that when he got a job, he didn’t have much choice, he worked here and there. He even worked as a security guard in a trading house in Astana. Yes, and it was hard in the fire department – the sound of a siren, leaving for a fire. But every time the adrenaline charged. So with each shift, the profession of a firefighter dragged on more and more.

Today Murat Baltabaev is the deputy duty officer of the fire fighting service in Kokshetau. His team was one of the first to go to the largest fire in the Kostanay region.

“An order came to us, according to which we gathered personnel and left in a column consisting of 8 pieces of equipment and 60 personnel. Traffic on the highway was a little difficult, since the Atbasar region is known for its crops, and the road was clogged with trucks. Because of this, we drove for a long time. Upon arrival there, the situation, of course, was very difficult, everything was on fire on a large scale. We immediately started working. We started from the village of Amankaragai. The fire had already passed through the village, but inside there were whole houses between the burning houses. We repulsed the surviving houses from the fire. The second day we worked in the forest,” says the fireman.

This is how the firefighters under the leadership of Baltabaev worked for four days with practically no sleep and rest. The scale, he admits, was enormous. Moreover, the situation was complicated by the possibility of an explosion of a local oil depot. And the team from Kokshetau coped with this task perfectly well.

“Our guys, upon arrival in Amankaragai, held the oil depot, did not let it flare up. In general, there were many sites where we worked. Several villages were recaptured from the fire. They did a good job in the Baganali settlement. The guys, despite the danger, were collected. In all my service, I have not seen one of them cry in fear, or run away from a fire out of fear. At the beginning of a career, there may have been tears when bodies were carried out of the fire, especially the bodies of children. But that was early in my career. Now, even in such situations, you are cold-blooded. So in the Kostanay region, all the personnel did not think about themselves, their feelings or emotions. Everything was handled in cold blood. After extinguishing, of course, they experienced relief,” he says.

Baltabaev is sure that the losses during the fire could have been less, but because of the wind, the fire constantly changed its direction and people simply could not keep up with it. While the rescuers are working on one side, the fire passes to the other side, it was not possible to cut off the flame.

“The wind was constantly changing, and it is impossible to predict the direction. But, I believe that we have fulfilled our task to the maximum and worked out as much as possible, ”the fireman emphasizes.

Baltabaev completely disagrees with the statement that the fire could be contained faster if the firefighters had more modern equipment, protective equipment and equipment in general. He claims that the equipment and fire-technical equipment is new. It’s just that the forces and means were not enough initially, because while the rescuers arrived from the regions to the Kostanay region, 12 hours were lost from the start of the fire. The road has taken too long.

“If the forces and means had arrived faster, more could have been saved. Although, this is not a fact. Because the wind was strong, constantly changing. It was also very hot and the air was dry. It ignited instantly. The fire will only pass, and literally two or three kilometers away, the sparks are transferred with the help of the wind and a fire starts in another area,” he recalls.

The first day passed completely without sleep, then the personnel slept for 10-15 minutes while refueling the vehicles with water. We caught a couple of minutes of sleep while driving directly to the fires. We slept in the car, on the bus, on the street – wherever we had to. And after 3-4 days, when it became a little easier, when large sections of the territories were recaptured from the fire, the personnel spent the night in schools and gyms.

“Upon returning home from the Kostanay region, we were given a week to rest in order to recover. Although, I feel that I could continue to work. But we spent time with the family and for that I am grateful. As for bonuses – two salaries, this is an indication of the President. We haven’t received it yet, but we’re waiting. It was very nice, for the first time we were met like that – as heroes. But I don’t consider myself one. I think we were just doing our job,” the firefighter said.

Although, he admits, there are also unpleasant cases and, unfortunately, quite often. As a rule, these are residents who claim that firefighters come without water. Such statements Baltabaev calls groundless.

“With us firefighters, it can never happen in our lives that a fire truck is in combat crew and without water. In any case, it will be full, with water and a foaming agent. We just have a pump that supplies water. Let’s say there are five cubes in the car, that is, five tons of water. And you can merge them literally in 3-5 minutes. For example, there are times when firefighters, in order to prevent the fire from spreading from one house to the next, strongly supply water to quickly extinguish the fire. The water runs out quickly and people think the firefighters are coming without water,” he explains.

Talking about salaries of rescuers, Baltabayev smiles, says, no matter how much you pay for each person, it will always be not enough. After all, everyone knows the statement – the more you get, the more costs. Nevertheless, he believes, the problems of firefighters still need to be addressed – this is the provision of housing, benefits, including medical care, assistance with the placement of children in kindergartens, and rehabilitation in sanatoriums. The latter, by the way, was with firefighters when they were part of the structure of the Ministry of the Interior, but after the creation of a separate ministry for emergency situations, this was taken away. But even despite the existing problems, Baltabaev assures that if there was an opportunity to choose another profession, he would not choose it.

“I would leave everything as it is. But I would not advise children to become firefighters. Still, it’s a dangerous job. As a parent, I will worry. And himself – no. I’m so attached, I don’t want to leave. The most important thing is to finish before retirement, and retire with peace of mind,” he says.

Every day, Murat Baltabaev’s wife and four children are waiting at home.
