Accreditations
NAEYC Accreditation
Every child deserves access to high-quality early learning experiences. NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children) has set 10 standards for early childhood programs that can help families make the right choice when they are looking for a child care center, preschool, or kindergarten. The standards and criteria are also the foundation of the NAEYC Accreditation system for early childhood programs.
To earn NAEYC Accreditation, schools must go through an extensive self-study and quality-improvement process, followed by an on-site visit by NAEYC Assessors to verify and ensure that the program meets each of the ten program standards, and hundreds of corresponding individual criteria. NAEYC-accredited programs are always prepared for unannounced quality-assurance visits during their accreditation term, which lasts for five years. In the 30 years since NAEYC Accreditation was established, it has become a widely recognized sign of high-quality early childhood education. More than 7,000 programs are currently accredited by NAEYC—less than 10 percent of all child care centers, preschools, and kindergartens nationally achieve this recognition.
Cognia
Based on a set of rigorous research-based standards and evidence-based criteria, the accreditation process examines the whole institution–its policies, programs, practices, learning conditions, and cultural context–to determine how well the parts work together to carry out the institution’s vision and meet the needs of every learner. Accreditation isn’t about passing a one-time inspection. Rather, accreditation recognizes education providers that demonstrate and sustain their commitments to continuous improvement and better learner outcomes.

What to do on the coast of Georgia
Tweet
To the east, the state of Georgia has access to the Atlantic Ocean, where the coast is washed by the warm Gulf Stream. The coastline of the state is about 100 miles (190 kilometers). This is not much in comparison with neighboring Florida, but this coast is still its own, local. The Atlanta Travel blog has already talked about where to go from Atlanta to the sea. In this article, more about what you should see on the coast of Georgia.
To get your bearings – here is a map of the coast (enlarge map). For themselves, the editors of the blog have identified two main directions – the city of Savannah (with Tybee Island located nearby) and Jekyll Island , which is part of the group of Georgia islands under the romantic name Golden Isles – the Golden Isles.
City of Savannah
The city of Savannah is the main city of the coast of Georgia. Founded in 1733 by the British, led by General James Oglethorpe. Savannah was the capital of the English colony of Georgia and later the first capital of the state. And therefore, from a tourist point of view, the city is a miracle how good it is: old buildings, numerous squares, the Savannah River embankment, the streets are shady and calm. More about the city of Savannah…
The Lady & Sons
Here in the historic center of the city is the restaurant The Lady & Sons, founded by Paula Dean, a celebrity and star of the Food Network. The restaurant is popular with tourists because it is a great place to try the southern cuisine of the United States, which is not at all dietary, which makes it especially tasty. More about The Lady & Sons…
US Eighth Air Force Museum
On the way to the coast of Georgia at the entrance to Savannah is the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum, which tells about the US Eighth Air Force, which began its history in Savannah, was stationed in England and played a prominent role in World War II. More about the US Eighth Air Force Museum…
Tybee Island
Tybee Island is located on the Atlantic coast itself and is in fact the main beach of Savannah, as well as the closest sandy sea beach from Atlanta, a four-hour drive from the state capital. In addition, there is a lighthouse on the island, founded 250 years ago. More about Tybee Island and the lighthouse…
Fort Pulaski
On the way to Tybee Island is Fort Pulaski. Erected on Coxspar Island at the mouth of the Savannah River, it is famous for the fact that during the American Civil War in 1862, the Federation Army successfully used a rifled gun for the first time against the Confederate forces holding the fort. A very touristy place, will allow you to get acquainted with the military history of Georgia and the United States. More about Fort Pulaski…
Old Fort Jackson
Fort Jackson is a mile east of Savannah (or south on I95). Nowadays, a museum of the history of the river and sea fleet is open here. And if you are traveling from Atlanta to the coast of Georgia, then stopping for a tour at this fort will be the right decision. More about Old Fort Jackson…
St. Simons Island and Fort Frederick
Further south along the coast is St. Simons Island. The island has not only beaches (although not as long as neighboring Jekyll), but also a rich history – in the 18th century, when there was not even the United States, this island was the site of confrontation between England and Spain in a dispute over the lands of the New World. More about Fort Frederick…
Jekyll Island
Jekyll Island lies on the Atlantic coast of Georgia. It was here that American millionaires founded the Jekyll Island Club in the late 19th century. By the beginning of the 20th century, the club had become an elite community, which included representatives of the richest American families – the Morgans, Rockefellers and Vanderbilts. Now the island beckons with its white beaches and peaceful seclusion. More about Jekyll Island…
Beaches on Jekyll Island
Separately, it should be noted the beaches of Jekyll Island. The journey from Atlanta to this coast will take five and a half hours and about 320 miles of travel. The beaches on the island are perhaps the best beaches in all of Georgia! More about the beaches on Jekyll Island…
Sea turtles: Georgia Sea Turtle Center
Jekyll Island is known for being home to the Georgia Sea Turtle Center, which treats turtles in trouble not only in Georgia, but in all adjacent states. The history of the center began 40 years ago. More about sea turtles at the Georgia Sea Turtle Center…
Amelia Island, Georgia – Florida border
If there is a desire and strength to move away from Atlanta, then on the border of the states of Georgia and Florida is the resort of Amelia Island. The island is famous for its festivals: Shrimp Festival, Jazz Festival, Chamber Music Festival, Blues Festival and Film Festival. It also hosts the US Open Petanque Championship. All these events gather thousands of participants (it would seem?!). More about Amelia Island Resort…
Hilton Head Island, Georgia-South Carolina border
In the opposite direction from Amelia Island along the coast of Georgia, on the border with South Carolina, there is another resort island, Hilton Head Island. To get to it from Atlanta, you need to go along the I16 highway and take Savannah not to the right (south direction to the Jekyll Islands, St. Simons and the Atlantic coast of Florida), but to the left, north along the coast. Long beaches, hotels-resorts on the coast, an abundance of greenery all year round make the resort island a luxury holiday destination. More about Hilton Head Island…
The coast of Georgia can also be an intermediate link in a journey along the Atlantic Ocean in Florida, where St. Augustine, Daytona Beach, Kennedy Space Center, Miami Beach and Key West are located (where would it be without it?!)
From the coast Georgia to the north also has something to see – Charleston, Palm Island, Myrtle Beach and beyond (as far as New York).
Tara Plantation in Jonesboro, Georgia
Tweet
Rhett Butler and Scarlett O’Hara. Not everyone has seen the movie Gone with the Wind. Moreover, not everyone has read the novel of the same name. But the editors of the photo of the Bulgarian Atlanta Travel are more than sure that the names of these heroes are known to everyone. But the action of the novel Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell, written in 1936, takes place in Georgia, in the 1860s, during real events before and after the Civil War.
In Jonesboro, Georgia, there is a mansion that became the basis for the description of Tara’s plantation. And besides, Jonesboro has the only crossroads in the world – Rhett Butler Dr. and Scarlett Dr.
2. From Atlanta, take the I75 highway and turn off at Exit 235 to enter Tara Boulevard, which will take you to the Stately Oaks Plantation, the mansion that inspired Tara.
3. Now the Stately Oaks Plantation and surrounding buildings are open to the public, and tourists from Atlanta can see for themselves what Tara, the birthplace of Scarlet O’Hara, was like.
2. Margaret Mitchell, author of Gone with the Wind, born November 8, 1900 in Atlanta, Georgia to an Irish Catholic family. Margaret Mitchell’s great-grandfather, Philip FitzGerald, was one of the first settlers in Jonesboro, building a house south of town. Before the war, he was the richest planter in Clayton County. Mr Fitzgerald immigrated to America from Ireland. It was said about him that he was “not a handsome man, but a man whose face showed character and strength.” He died in 1880. His daughter, Anna, was Margaret Mitchell’s grandmother.
3. In 1939, Hollywood filmed the novel “Gone with the Wind”, carefully recreating the spirit of the American South of the 19th century in Californian studios.
4. Compare the real Stately Oaks Plantation and the fictional Tara Plantation in a still from the movie. After all, it’s the same house!
5. To get even more inspired by the atmosphere of Gone with the Wind, a guide dressed according to all the canons of women’s fashion of that time will lead an interesting tour of the house.
6. Built in 1839, the mansion has been known by various names: Orr House, The Oaks and Robert McCord House, which changed with the owners.
7. In 1972, the Stately Ox Plantation House was added to the US National Register of Historic Places and became a state-protected home. Clayton County and the city of Jonesboro were named the birthplace of Gone with the Wind, first by Margaret Mitchell’s brother, Mitchell Stevens, and then legislated in 1986.
8. Stately Oaks Plantation – neo-Greek mansion of the antebellum period of American history. The same period as the Antebellum Plantation in Stone Mountain Park, which the Atlanta Travel blog has already covered.
9. Stately Oaks plantation and 7 acres of land around it form the Margaret Mitchell Memorial Park.
10. An exposition of buildings and tools of labor and everyday life of that era has been collected on the territory of the park.
11.
12.
13.
14. Cotton is the wealth of the American South. There was something about the cotton that gave her confidence, a kind of reliability.
