Current COVID-19
Updates & Guidelines
With the health of all of our TLC families and teachers at stake, we will consider withdrawing a family for any obvious and clear disregard for our COVID-19 policies stated below. Our focus and first responsibility if the health of all our students and families during this pandemic and beyond.
-
All adults and children older than 2 years old must wear a mask when entering the center. -
Staff will conduct health questions with the adult dropping off and a temperature check as the student enters the building. We will need to exclude any child and staff member with a persistent cough, shortness of breath, loss of taste/smell, fever over 100.0 F, rash, symptoms of inflammatory illness, household member has symptoms, or in close contact with anyone diagnosed with COVID-19 for 15 minutes or more. -
We rely on families being truthful and letting the Director know through email, phone call, or Procare if someone in your household becomes newly diagnosed with COVID-19 OR if someone in your household is self-quarantining, has symptoms, or awaiting a test due to a possible exposure to an individual with COVID-19. Email: [email protected] -
Should a COVID-19 outbreak occur, the Department of Health will be contacted and their guidance will be followed. Guidance will include a closure of a classroom or closure for the entire center for possibly 2 weeks. It is imperative that if you or someone in your household is feeling ill, you are not sending your child to childcare. We will contact you if your child was in close contact for 15 minutes with a positive COVID-19 individual. -
Children that are excluded due to illness or existing symptom will need a doctor’s note to return to childcare. Children that have been excluded due to a household member ordered to self-quarantine or exhibiting symptoms will need to provide clearance from the child’s physician or a negative test result for individual in the household. -
We will not accept toys or food from home. -
If throughout the day, your child is exhibiting any symptoms of illness, we will keep them separated from the other children in our “sick room” by the gym with a teacher. You will be called regarding your child’s symptoms and we will need a contact person on the Emergency Contact form, to pick up your child within the hour. Your child will need to return with a “return to care” doctor note. -
We will provide hand sanitizer upon entering our building to students that are 2 years old and older. Our hand sanitizer will be at least 60% alcohol and used only under adult supervision. The permission form is to be signed by parent. -
We will need every family to keep their child’s Emergency Contact form updated with current phone numbers and a trusted alternative to pick up. -
We will have our students outside more often and every day. Your child will need weather appropriate clothing. -
Classroom toothbrushing will be on hold until COVID-19 is no longer a concern in our community. With this in mind, please have your child brush their teeth before they arrive to school.

Historic Bethlehem, Bethlehem, PA
Home to America’s second-largest steelmaker until the closure of Bethlehem Steel in 2003, this city of 72,000 is located about 70 miles north of Philadelphia and 81 miles west of New York. Many former workers still live here today, next door to professionals in their 30s and 40s who have chosen Bethlehem for their almost normal trips around the metropolis. Lehigh University and Moravian College are here, contributing to the historic district’s thriving arts scene, which includes free concerts, house and garden tours, and monthly art shows inside the glass walls of the town hall. rotunda. On the main street, the Moravian Bookshop, the country’s oldest permanent volume seller, stands among popular restaurants and cafes. Historic Bethlehem has a community vibe, with neighbors attending town meetings, approaching a single screen. Boyd Theater to click and catch their dinner at Monocacy Creek, a trout creek off the Lehigh River. nine0010
Houses
The area is filled with two and a half and three story Italians, Queen Anne, Second Empire and Gothic Revival buildings built at the turn of the 20th century. Do you have elbow grease? One of these ornate Victorians can be bought for as low as -300,000. A fully restored one will likely call for -600,000 or more. Historic Bethlehem also has row houses in the -175,000 range, and wherever you walk, history abounds. As local real estate agent Barbara Fraust says, “You can walk centuries in eight blocks.” nine0010

Tariffville Village, Simsbury, CT
Photo by Wanda Colman, Tariffville Village Association. nine0865
In Tariffville, locals are known to have old-fashioned social dinners or go to the Farmington River to go tubing, kayaking or white water rafting. But despite its many pleasures, few outside of Connecticut have heard of it. “This place has been forgotten over the years,” says Chet Macak, president of the Tariffville Village Association. “That’s one of the things that makes this place so enjoyable to live in.” An area with only 320 families is the Simsbury Pocket, about 11 miles northwest of Hartford. With small-town New England charm, first-class schools, and an unwavering commitment to historic preservation. Simbseri was included in the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s exclusive “Dozen of Distinctive Places” list in 2010. And also Money magazine recently named it one of the best places to live in America. We thought we’d add to this list by naming Tariffville as one of the best areas to buy an old house.
Houses
Tariffville’s Greek Revival and Gothic dates back to the 19th century, with many quaint vernacular Victorians emerging in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Prices range from $180,000 for four-bedroom houses in disrepair (but with a lot of motivating character) to about $400,000 for large houses in excellent condition. nine0010
Why buy here?
Tariffville is one of the few places where you can find a five bedroom home for less than $200,000. It is an affordable village for old home lovers who want to earn money and for first time buyers and families looking for access to quality education.

Milton, Delaware
“We still have a lot of work to do,” says Melinda Huff, executive director of the Milton Historical Society, about getting her small river town the recognition it deserves. However, Milton has already achieved a lot. The city’s historic district, established in the early 1680s, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. Milton is now adding 240 more historic homes to the Register. Situated just off the east coast of the state at the head of the Broadkill River, Milton has at various times been a 19th-century schooner building center, the “sacred capital of the world” and a hotbed for button-making. Deering Center, Portland, Maine

Deering Center’s claim to fame: It is said to be the only place in the US where a child can go to kindergarten and then college, on the same street. Along with Longfellow Elementary School and Deering High School, Stevens Avenue is also next door to the University of New England. An early trolleybus suburb, Deering Center was annexed by Portland in 1899. It was an ideal place for raising children: houses, sidewalks and a huge forest park with hiking trails served as a refuge from the city. For several years, residents have been renovating the homes of famed Portland architect John Calvin Stevens and removing mid-century siding from the facades of their historic homes. “We’ve got it all,” says Naomi Mermin, president of the Deering Center Neighborhood Association, citing a diverse population of several thousand, an old-fashioned butcher, and the park’s cross-country ski trails as proof. nine0010
Houses
According to Merman, the streets here showcase a “mess” of home styles, including Italian, Queen Anne, Colonial Revival, four squares, etc. Craftsman bungalows, Sears kit houses, and a farmhouse style that is local referred to as “New England” by residents, most built in the 20th century. first half. Prices start from $200,000 to $500,000.

Do you want a turnkey house, not a roll-up project? “This is not an area where you find homes in poor condition,” Merman says. “Houses in fairly original condition, in need of updating, but otherwise in good condition, easy to find.” And many of the old houses here are apartment buildings, including those for rent; these large homes not only offer income potential, but also demonstrate amazing energy efficiency during Maine’s long, cold winters. nine0010

Francestown, New Hampshire

“We’ve been open… hmm… for about 197 years,” says Jason Martel, owner of the Francestown Village Store. Indeed, for two centuries, residents of this southern New Hampshire city have been coming here for food, equipment, and just about everything else. “We also sell 450 beers and roasted seaweed for sushi these days,” adds Martel. The shop is the glue that holds the city of about 1500 people together (and yes, it also sells glue). Almost all of the buildings and houses here were built between the late 1700s and late 1800s, when the railroad bypassed Francestown. In retrospect, this was an accidental twist: if things had turned out differently, the city would not have become the charm of a bedroom community – many residents travel to Boston or Manchester – as they are today. nine0010
Houses
Popular styles include Cape Cod and Federal, many with beautiful English style gardens. One of Francestown’s few Victorian-era homes, the 2,287-square-foot Queen Anne Square on a quarter-acre area, was recently listed for sale for $225,000. Also available: 1826 3,056-square-foot Federal with attached barn for $295,000.

Those who are looking for a quiet rural area in which to settle down will find a great option here. But beware: there is no nightlife to speak of here. “Once I close the doors, the city is ready for the day,” says Martel. The action takes place about 32 km away, in Manchester, or in Boston, at 90 minutes drive. However, it is a great place for skiers as it is home to the Crotched Mountain Ski Resort.

Lamberville, NJ

Everything from hairpins to toilets was once made in tiny Lamberville. But the former industrial hub has changed: This enclave on the Delaware River is now home to about 5,000 artists, writers, retirees, shopkeepers, and professionals from major cities (which endure 45 or 90-minute drive to Philadelphia or Manhattan, respectively). What Lumberville lacks in population it makes up for in a rejuvenating spirit at home. It’s a hotbed for carpenters, masons, architects, antique dealers, and other home restoration professionals, as well as a destination for those embarking on the delightfully painful journey of restoring an old home. In the morning, you can stroll through the antique shops on Union Street or the nearby famous Gold Nugget Antique Market. nine0010
Houses
A history dating back to 1705 means that Lamberville has amassed a wide range of architectural styles. “Every home is unique,” says Holly Havens, a real estate agent who settled in Lumberville in 1995. In the city center there is a villa from the Federal era to the Greek Revival of the early 19th century, and then an Italian villa of the Gothic Revival. English Cottage, French Second Empire and Queen Anne Houses, and 1850s row houses built for the Irish Canal. workers. Craftsmen’s bungalows and vernacular-style cottages dot the remote hills. Once home to thousands of Norwegian boat builders and Italian and Irish immigrants, this old Brooklyn neighborhood on the New York Harbor is a bleak place. Eckington, DC
Forget Bethesda and Arlington. When CTO Steve Ryneki moved from San Diego, California to Washington, DC in 2002, he wanted to live within the city. He also wanted an older site with historical details – the federal house on Capitol Hill or the red-brick Queen Anne on Columbia Heights. Unfortunately, excavations in those areas cost more than half a million dollars. So Steve looked around the northeast part of the county and found what he was looking for: 1893 years for about $250,000. “The price was right, the architecture was amazing, and the metro is a 10-minute walk,” he says. Originally the province of powerful Victorian politicians and business owners, Eckington later became a stronghold for D.C.’s African-American middle class. These days, it’s a magnet for anyone looking to avoid the Beltway curbs and find trendy and newly renovated homes in a cool urban area just 10 minutes from Capitol Hill. nine0010
