The Gardena Family Child Care Program (GFCC) is a State funded Family Child Care Home Education Network (FCCHEN) providing quality subsidized child care services for families who live, work, or attend school/training in Gardena. GFCC was established in 1976 in response to the unmet child care needs of the community. By contracting with licensed family child care providers, the program provides educational child care and development services to infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and school-age children.
Families in need of child care services
The Gardena Family Care Program (GFCC) provides child care and development services at low or no cost, depending on family income and size, to low income families who are seeking employment, attending school/training, or working. Care is provided to children ages 0 to 12 years in licensed family child care provider homes throughout Gardena and bordering cities.
The GFCC Program provides quality care that includes nutritious meals and snacks, a safe and healthy indoor and outdoor area that is conducive to learning, a variety of age appropriate activities, and an innovative curriculum that addresses the emotional, social, cognitive, and physical needs of children.

Licensed Providers interested in joining GFCC’s FCCHEN
The City of Gardena Family Child Care Program (GFCC) contracts with licensed family child care providers who offer a quality program and provide a variety of learning experiences that promote children’s growth and development in a safe, supportive, and stimulating environment. The indoor area must have ample space for children’s activities and learning and an enclosed outdoor area is required.
GFCC is looking for providers who are professional, caring, nurturing, and understand how children grow and develop. GFCC staff work closely with providers in the network and offer technical assistance and information with such items as curriculum, child care environment, behavioral problems, and developmental and age-appropriate practices. Additionally, dependent upon funding, there is a toy and equipment lending library available to GFCC providers.

In Saskatchewan (Canada), as much as 2 dollars a day per child is spent in kindergarten – I know this for sure.
Yes, the food is bad. The educators themselves cook quickly, not all kindergartens have cooks. We have 45 children, no cook. I work in a kindergarten and we have money deducted from our salary for food, but I bring my own food to work. The food is not that tasteless, it is corny unhealthy very often.
There are 2 toilet bowls for 45 children, and at the previous place of work there was only one for 30 children. And there is only one pot for the little ones, the children stood in line. But what’s with the toilets? There are so many different problems that one can only dream of a toilet for staff… Although some kindergartens have a separate toilet for teachers, I do not argue.
Not every garden has its own yard or playground, and if it does, it can be 2 meters by one and a half aviary for poultry.
Many kindergartens are not clean at all. There are no cleaners in the state. Educators clean themselves, take out the garbage themselves. Somewhere with this it is strict and the floor is washed every day as it should be, and in other kindergartens the floor is washed once a week anyhow.
Windows may not be washed for a year, but what? And so there is no time.
Yes, sick children are brought in. Yes, we give children antibiotics in the kindergarten. No, you can’t check the children’s heads for the fact that there may be lice. It degrades the dignity of the child. We still find lice from time to time. Yes, there were quite recently children with severe bronchitis, and even with pneumonia. Children, when they get sick, are kept at home for a day, after 24 hours on antibiotics they are taken to kindergarten. You have to work, there is nowhere to put the child.
I’d rather not say anything about the education of teachers. There are, of course, with education, and many of them barely pulled out a couple of courses with their weak English, got a crust and work without understanding elementary things in the field of preschool education. There are many immigrant women who like to quietly talk about how children can be beaten in their countries of origin and put forward clever theories that Canadians are afraid to beat children so that they don’t send them to a nursing home in their old age.
And Canadian educators, for the most part, do not shine with great intelligence, to put it mildly. Sometimes the simplest words in the native language cannot be written without errors or do simple mathematical operations. Although this is not surprising, with a salary, there are not so many educators among educated Canadians who want to work in kindergarten. Although there are, of course, smart workers.
I’m talking about licensed kindergartens, the work of which is regulated by the Ministry of Education. In unlicensed children often stupidly watch cartoons all day long, but such a kindergarten also costs at least 500 dollars a month. And maybe 20 children of different ages per adult.

Madina Makhutova from the Mangistau region was one of the first in her region to open an unusual kindergarten.
She came to this idea thanks to her child. After five in vitro fertilization procedures in 2015, her son was born, who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy by doctors. Faced with the difficulties of undergoing rehabilitation, she learned that there are many such children in the region – 254 children of preschool age were registered in neurology in 2019.
– My life literally turned into an endless struggle for my son’s health. In our hometown, we visited all available treatment centers, once every three months we went to rehabilitation centers in the CIS. Being once again on rehabilitation in Chelyabinsk, I learned from the parents of special children that their babies with cerebral palsy attend kindergarten. I really wanted my son and other children from our city to also have such an opportunity, – says Madina Makhutova.
I already had experience in organizing the work of a preschool institution. Madina is an entrepreneur, and by that time she had a successfully operating private kindergarten.
She understood that the opening of a kindergarten for special preschool children should be approached more scrupulously and thoughtfully – it requires different equipment, specialized professional staff. There was a catastrophic lack of material resources to realize their dreams.
Everything became possible thanks to participation in the Zharkyra social entrepreneurship development program implemented by the Eurasia Foundation of Central Asia with the financial support of Tengizchevroil LLP.
– As part of the program, I completed training and a number of trainings on business improvement, financial literacy. In February 2020, she received the opportunity to undergo a professional internship and a grant of 3 million tenge. With these funds, I made repairs in the premises for a kindergarten. Bought rehabilitation equipment. The Zharkyra program helped me open a kindergarten for special children that I dreamed of. In a short time, we are already seeing the results of our work with specialists, – Madina Makhutova shares.
Madina’s kindergarten accepts children with cerebral palsy, mental and speech retardation, Down’s syndrome. The team consists of psychologists, speech therapists, defectologists, massage therapists, specialists in exercise therapy and AFC, occupational and music therapy. The main task of the team and the founder of the kindergarten is to teach children self-care skills, develop speech, and find their place in the social environment.
Kindergarten for special children opened its doors in May 2020. At first it was attended by four children, a few months later – already 15 kids. Every day, teachers and students record new victories and achievements. Four-year-old Maira, with a speech delay, said the long-awaited word “mother” during the first month of attending kindergarten, began to pronounce her name and the names of things, and learns to make small sentences. Four-year-old Zharas, diagnosed with cerebral palsy, could only walk with an escort, he could not stand on his feet.
After a month of intensive exercise therapy, he walks and sits on his own. Five-year-old Miras with mental retardation did not make contact, had several unpleasant habits – for example, he scratched his face. After a month of sessions with a psychologist, he got rid of this habit. And there are more and more such miracles within the walls of the special kindergarten of Madina Makhutova every day. Children learn to count, distinguish colors, increase vocabulary, learn poetry, take their first steps on their own.
– I am happy when I see good results in a child, when I hear the gratitude of the parents and see the joy in their eyes. Thanks to the opportunity to attend our kindergarten, the mothers of four special babies were able to go to work – this is also an excellent indicator. I realized that opening this preschool was the right decision on my part. There are plans to expand and accept up to 70 children in the future, add two more types of rehabilitation. My biggest dream is to become a resort kindergarten on a par with foreign rehabilitation centers, summed up Madina Makhutova.
