2022. Makadi Bay – come, don’t be shy!

Dedicated to those in love with Egypt…

And again, after a huge time out (2015-2022 RIP), “our” Turkish Boeing landed in the Arabian desert. This air cannot be confused with any other; the impudent wind of Africa clears the head and fills the lungs with joy…

At home, in Russia, the mercury column jumps through zero twice a day, either pressing the spinal cord into the boots, or squeezing the head through the ears, breaks trees with a hurricane, squelches with slush. Everything has fallen into darkness… Black clouds dance, unable to decide on snow or rain… The wind is howling in every way, the sky is crying with something cold and sharp… three weeks before the beautiful Russian winter, no less.

It’s time to warm the bones!

And that’s expensive these days, gentlemen! And far away. Further than usual. Seven hours instead of five. And there is no stability in the world. There is no world. And there is nothing poetic here … Only life goes on. The homely truth of life is to live. Here and now. Therefore, among the space price tags, we choose the earthly ones and walk on everything! (Three years without a vacation, eight years without the Red Sea – this is no joke to you.)

We fly to Hurghada on a terrible and terrible charter a / c “Corendon”, where, according to rumors, they are starving and tormented by thirst. We are preparing for the worst: we drink a liter (h3O) before the flight and go into suspended animation. What a surprise it was when they gave us a drink, gave us hot sandwiches, and after refueling in Antalya they gave us another drink. The flight is night, I really like to meet sunrises in the sky. This time I even saw the pyramids when they fled over Cairo. It is convenient to arrive in the morning – the whole day ahead!

Arrived. And the wind, damn it, is cold, like at home! Well, at least the sun is breaking through. Well, okay, we are still before Makadi – forty minutes south of Hurghada, maybe it will get warmer …

Makadi is distinguished by quiet, blissful calmness, despite the fact that 30 km from it, motley Hurghada rattles with all the languages ​​of the planet. Hurghada, which is only 46 years old, preens quite noticeably, grows from year to year, makes noise with two-meter trees, blooms and smells. Who remembers Hurghada as a desert with a tent instead of an airport terminal, small beads of hotels along the coastline and one traffic light in the city center? Those were glorious times…

Now Hurghada itself is too crowded. But it’s for my taste. Therefore, Makadi.

Makadi Bay is mainly oriented towards secluded or family holidays, and it is also a great wintering place for retirees. Younger birds of passage here may seem a little sour: of the benefits of civilization, only those that are inscribed in the infrastructure of the hotel. Step to the right (left) – the desert, or a neighboring SPA-complex.

Don’t pass by, SPA looms ahead!

Makadi Bay is a bay on the Red Sea, and the resort of the same name was created exclusively for the guests of the country, there are no local settlements, there are no cultural centers, municipalities and other social institutions. A pure desert oasis on the shores of a bay with a huge living coral reef. Relaxed rest.

Prior to the infamous Egyptian riots of 2010, there were upscale hotels with French and German management. Local managers do things differently, but Egypt is for those who love Egypt and forgive a peculiar understanding of service, haute cuisine and comfort for people who are used to picking up cakes from the floor, dipping them in a suspicious-looking sauce and eating with pleasure. Hence this strange cuisine, or rather the unique ability of local chefs to spoil everything except rice and dates.

They are warm, well, so they don’t bother with the true purpose of plumbing and the cleanliness of cutlery. In the 20s, in the hotels of Egypt that survived the pandemic, it became completely tasteless and uninteresting to eat, even with sweets. All inclusive, and the level of service fell below the plinth; tables are bursting with food, and the choice for a safe snack is like in a canteen. But you will also love it for the Beauty of the Red Sea.

Therefore, let’s not bother, but just take a walk around the Makadi hotels. Along all the Makadi hotels, and these are mostly five, there is a promenade along which you can walk until sunset.

Sometimes an isthmus between hotel complexes falls into the gap, and we see the desert – mother, just so gray and dusty. Yes, the sun illuminates the sky, the sky is reflected in the water… and when the sun hides in clouds, you will not see the usual golden-azure Egyptian “bow” you can stretch your legs walking along the shore of the bay from one deserted deserted beach between Makady and Sahl Hashish to another – next to the Serenity complex.

Along the way, we are exploring what is it and whether it is worth it. I note that there are no bad hotels in Makadi by definition. There are only our claims, claims and preferences. For example, someone likes to dive, and someone (we won’t show a finger) can’t swim at all and may cry if, having come to the beach, instead of warm sand, he finds a bare rocky reef teeming with sea urchins.

Therefore, I give as reference points the current prices for December 2022 (a week for one) and the color of the hotel’s beach flag – on the same day – as a marker of the safety of swimming in the sea. Depending on the wind, even the temperature of sea water in the bathing area changes. Green – calm, +26; yellow – excitement and wind, +23; red – storm warning, +20.

Unfortunately, the resource of my planet does not allow me to arrange the data in a beautiful table.

So let’s go:

• Makady Palace|The Grand Makady|Grand Waterworld 100/70K – the territory resembles a seaside southern city; swimming pools, ponds, flyovers, shady alleys… but already at four o’clock in the afternoon the sun disappears behind the highest tower of the palace. Sadly, it’s cold. And you can swim in the sea only from the pier. Pier 300m, wide, comfortable. Reef. Yellow flag.
• Red Sea the Makadi SPA 72K – snatched a tidbit of a beach with a sandy bottom, children are splashing in the sea. Green flag, hooray!
• Prima Life 72K – small private beach area, rocky bottom, reef fragments. For adults. Yellow flag.
• Fort Arabesue 78K – beach, sandy beach! Indeed, it looks like a Spanish fort, beautiful and stylish. Zeleny th flag – that’s the main thing!
• Sunrise Tucana & Royal 120/80K – excellent beach, swimming pool for adults and children. This is my all-time favorite. Warm, cozy and chic at the same time. The quietest place in the bay. Green flag.
• Xanady 91K – for fans of hi-tech, rather – the style is not at all Arabic – for modern, business, in a hurry. The small beach is far from the buildings – 450m, but there are golf carts; the first line is occupied by restaurants and a conference hall. Yellow flag.
• Tia Heights 42K – a gentle entrance to the sea, a crowded beach, a lot of boats are laid up nearby (and this is diesel fuel in the water). There is a children’s water park, little greenery. Yellow flag.
• Jaz (ex Sol y Mar) 110K – good for everyone, there is the possibility of swimming from the coastline, but it is already noticeably windy in this part of the bay. Yellow flag.
• Iberotel 115K – beautiful, stylish, green, crowded, there is entry into the water from the beach, the beach is a compact suite, yellow flag.
• Cleopatra 77K – the motto of the hotel: a large area is a luxury. The territory is large, Germany-oriented, but the atmosphere is friendly, spacious on the beach, water sports center – prices from 20 euros / hour for board rides, so people do not break. It is possible to enter the sea from the shore, there is also a pier. Yellow flag.
• Stella Beach|Stella Garden 62/53К – a large beautiful reef, a dangerous pier 500 m, there is a gangway to a depth of the height of an adult and a gangway to a depth of 25 meters (for me it is immediately into the abyss) with the possibility of exploring the reef. 5 swimming pools, incl. with heating and bar counters, Jacuzzi, SPA complex. Spacious, but the windiest beach! Periodically cold undercurrents. Maybe that’s why there are few people on the beach, everyone hangs out by the pools. A huge plus of hotels is luxurious greenery, well-groomed paradise. On the carpeted grassy lawns, you just want to walk barefoot. Yellow flag.
• Labranda Royal|Labranda Club (ex Azur) 57/53K – swimming and splashing near the shore under yellow flags ; on foot, plunging chest-deep into the sea, we go to the coral island of Bimbo Island. Hotel rooms are selling like hot cakes, and you have to take risks with early bookings.
• Royal Pharaons 45K – reef, my favorite pier for contemplating sunsets, comfortable for walking, zigzag, long. Red flag. Daredevils in diving suits try their luck. The hotel itself is uncomfortable, gives the impression of a sinking ship.
• Serenity 62K – reef, pier 100m, comfortable, red flags!!! But there is a park with carousels and a salt pool.

An important remark – Russians are not beaten in Makadi. In general, Russian speakers prevail here, and our children, perhaps, do not even realize that this is a foreign country. Barmaleev, in short, was not found.

Customs and inspections . Before the return flight, you will be screened at least twice – randomly with or without bias. Everything is decent, noble, just boring. This is for our safety.

Money. Dollars. Euro. Rubles – any money disappears without a trace in the hands of guides and shopkeepers. Almost everyone has cards from our green bank, so they won’t let you be left without your favorite little thing.

Internet. Free is barely breathing. When buying traffic (Orange), be careful not to pay for 10 by buying only 5GB.

Now let’s touch the heart chakra . Russian ladies tend to overly romanticize the reflex obsession of local gentlemen – in their ardent love confessions there is no seriousness of intentions and you should not offend your gloomy northern men and throw yourself into the arms of a camel driver or a local merchant just because he swears love to you more often than your own husband .
