What to see in Florida – 35 top attractions
Saint Petersburg Sunken Gardens is a unique attraction in Florida. This is a huge living museum in the heart of the city, including four demonstration botanical gardens. More than 500 species of tropical and subtropical plants are planted among the pools and cascading waterfalls. Chilean flamingos, macaws, cockatoos and Amazon parrots also live in Saint Petersburg Sunken Gardens. In addition to excursions, visitors are offered special educational and horticultural programs for children and adults. In Saint Petersburg Sunken Gardens you can organize a wedding or a private party.
The sunken gardens were created by George Turner Sr., a plumber and avid gardener from St. Petersburg. In 1903, he bought six acres of land on the outskirts of the city. On the territory of his possessions there was a shallow lake, which George decided to drain. So he was able to get to fertile soil, on which he began to plant citrus trees and other exotic plants. To get money, Turner began selling fruit to local residents, as well as taking 5 cents from anyone who wanted to walk through the gardens. After George’s death at 1961, the possessions passed to his sons, and then to his grandchildren. In 1999, they sold Sunken Gardens to the city for $2.26 million.

Fort Lauderdale
Fort Lauderdale offers miles of beautiful beaches, spectacular scenery, vibrant nightlife and gastronomy. The resort town, often referred to as the Venice of America due to its large number of canals, is located on the southeast coast of Florida. From walking along the historic waterfront and gondola rides to visiting world-famous art galleries, guests can enjoy a wide range of activities.
Fort Lauderdale has several interesting museums. The most popular among them are Bonnet House Museum and Gardens, NSU Art Museum, Museum of Discovery and Science, Stranahan House Museum. The main attraction of the city is 23 miles of beautiful sandy beaches. Along the ocean stretches the picturesque Strip promenade, built up with shops, boutiques, restaurants and hotels.
The best place for a family holiday is Everglades Holiday Park, offering airboat rides on the huge Grass River and spectacular alligator shows.

Devil’s Den Underground Spring
Devil’s Den is an underground pool discovered by the collapse of the vault and the appearance of a karst window. This is one of the most unique diving and snorkeling spots in the USA. The water in the underground river has a constant temperature of +22°C, so swimming will be comfortable regardless of the season. The steam rising from a hole in the ground was mistaken by the early settlers for smoke coming from the devil’s lair, which is how the source got its name.
Diving enthusiasts will have a unique opportunity to dive into the 33 million year old cave pool. Crystal clear water allows you to enjoy fantastic views. You don’t have to worry about encounters with dangerous animals. The only inhabitants of Devil’s Den are a few fish and a small turtle named Nelson.

Bok Tower Gardens, Lake Wales, Central Florida
Bok Tower Gardens is a scenic contemplative garden and bird sanctuary perched atop Iron Mountain, one of the highest points on the Florida peninsula. It was created by Edward William Bock, editor of The Ladies Home Journal, and his wife, Mary. By their order, landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted Jr. turned an ordinary sandy hill into one of the most beautiful places in the country. Oaks, magnolias, azaleas, gordonias and hundreds of fruit bushes were planted in the gardens. The reserve has become home to more than 100 species of birds.
The Singing Tower, designed in the Gothic Revival style, was built at the highest point of the park. On its eighth floor there is a 60-bell carillon. Every day there are musical shows for visitors.

LEGOLAND Florida Resort, Orlando
LEGOLAND Florida Resort is the second largest Lego resort in the world. It was built on the territory of the former botanical garden Cypress Gardens, which has been preserved almost completely. The LEGOLAND Florida theme park is aimed at children from 2 to 12 years old, but this does not mean that adults will not be interested here. On its territory, divided into 14 sectors, there are more than 55 attractions on the theme of everyone’s favorite designers. You will visit the factory where Lego bricks are made, see miniature copies of the main US attractions made from them, ride a roller coaster and go to the Lost Kingdom.
A great addition to the theme park is LEGOLAND Water Park, with its waterslides, wave pools and interactive playgrounds.
In 2022, a new Peppa Pig Theme Park was opened next to LEGOLAND Florida Resort. Here you will find six new attractions, many playgrounds and exciting shows dedicated to the cartoon about Peppa Pig. Miss Rabbit’s Diner offers a variety of sandwiches, snacks and desserts. Peppa Pig Theme Park is not affiliated with Lego but is part of the resort. Visitors are offered tickets allowing access to both parks.

Gatorland Theme Park, Orlando
If you love something out of the ordinary, add a visit to Gatorland theme park to your list of things to do in Florida. It’s called the “Alligator Capital of the World” for a reason – it’s the best place to get acquainted with some of the most feared predators on Earth. More than 2,000 American alligators live in Gatorland, including the rare white, Nile, Cuban and saltwater crocodiles. Here you can also see the most poisonous snakes in Florida, servals, lynxes, turtles, capybaras and various birds.
In addition to animal encounters, Gatorland offers guests many exotic attractions. You will go to the swamp where alligators breed to feed the predators and take pictures with them. For the bravest, there are Gator Night Shine night tours. Fans of extreme sports will be able to fly over the swamps on the Gator Gauntlet zipline — hundreds of crocodiles will see off the brave ones with hungry eyes.
There is a petting zoo for kids, where goats, cows, ostriches and other absolutely safe and very friendly animals live.
In the southern part of Gatorland lives a giant crocodile named Bonecrusher II. He is a direct descendant of Kostolom I, who was the “king” of the park in the 50-60s of the last century. Gatorland founder Owen Godwin has offered a $1,000 reward to anyone who can find a crocodile bigger than Old Bonebreaker. So far, no one has received this award. Bonebreaker II is practically not inferior to his ancestor. With a length of 4.5 meters and a weight of 635 kg, he is able to jump 2 meters out of the water.

Discovery Cove Theme Park, Orlando
Visiting Discovery Cove is one of the best things to do in Florida for adults and kids. Here you will have a great time interacting with dolphins, snorkeling among hundreds of exotic fish, watching playful monkeys and agile otters. Come to the park early in the morning to feed the stingrays with the instructors and learn many interesting facts about these animals. The most daring will be able to take part in the training of sharks and swim with them.
Discovery Cove offers guests the unique SeaVenture underwater tour. Wearing a special diving helmet, you will descend to the bottom of the lagoon and walk along the Great Reef, surrounded by marine life.
Discovery Cove includes breakfast, lunch, and unlimited snacks and drinks throughout the day.

Ernest Hemingway Home & Museum, Key West
Ernest Hemingway and his wife Pauline Pfeiffer lived in Key West from 1931 to 1939. Here the writer created several famous works: “The Green Hills of Africa”, “The Snows of Kilimanjaro”, “To Have and Not to Have”, “The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber”. After Hemingway’s death, the small two-story house on Whitehead Street was auctioned off and later became a private museum.
Now Ernest Hemingway Home & Museum is one of the most popular attractions in Key West. Many personal belongings of the writer, his typewriter and hunting trophies have been preserved here. Visitors can enter all rooms, except for the study, which is covered with a glass screen. The house is surrounded by beautiful gardens, along the alleys of which about 60 cats walk.
Most of the cats in the museum are polydactyl with six toes on each paw. They bear the names of celebrities, have their own small house in the garden and even a private cemetery. It is believed that Hemingway’s cats, as they are called, are the descendants of Snow White, who was allegedly given to the writer by a sea captain. Ernest Hemingway Home & Museum has even released a special mobile application, by installing which visitors can get to know all the furry inhabitants of the museum.

Clearwater
The small town of Clearwater is located in West Florida, on the Gulf of Mexico. Here is one of the best beaches in Florida – Clearwater Beach. Gorgeous scenery, fine white sand and warm clear water make it an ideal place for families with children. The long barrier reef, populated by a variety of marine life, attracts divers to Clearwater, and numerous marinas and bays have made it popular with yachtsmen, water sports enthusiasts and fishermen. The busiest place on the main beach of the city is Pier 60, which stretches for 330 meters. During the day, fishing enthusiasts gather here, and in the evenings the pier turns into an amusement park.
Clearwater attractions are not limited to the beach. Moccasin Lake Nature Park is located in the city center and is home to many wild birds. The Clearwater Marine Aquarium is home to Atlantic bottlenose dolphins, sea turtles, rays, river otters and other animals unable to return to the wild due to injuries. It will also be interesting to visit Bright House Field, where the Phillies baseball team trains, go to a performance at the Ruth Eckerd Hall concert hall, go on the Captain Memo pirate cruise, and play mini golf at the Congo River Golf course.
Clearwater Marine Aquarium’s most famous resident was a female dolphin named Winter. In 2005, she fell into a crab trap, as a result of which she lost her tail. In the aquarium, she was made a prosthesis made of silicone and plastic. Winter rose to fame after starring in the film Dolphin Tale. On November 11, 2021, she died at the age of 16.

WonderWorks is a fun and educational theme park with over 100 interactive exhibits. According to legend, it was once a top-secret laboratory hidden in the Bermuda Triangle. But during one of the unsuccessful experiments, she was transported to Florida. The house landed on the roof, but, fortunately, the equipment was not damaged. And now everyone has a unique opportunity to visit the epicenter of an earthquake of magnitude 3.5, design their own roller coaster, touch the electric field with a voltage of 100,000 volts, and even become an astronaut for a while.

One of the most fun things to do in Florida for families with kids is going to ZooTampa at Lowry Park. It has become home to over 1,000 animals, most of which are rare and endangered. Here you can pet a giant tortoise, feed a giraffe and a lorikeet, meet a koala and watch a rhinoceros dine. The zoo operates a unique Florida manatee hospital. Injured animals undergo rehabilitation there, which are then returned to the wild.
ZooTampa is not only a zoo, but also an amusement park. Guests are offered to go on safaris, ride slides and carousels. Kids will have a great time at the Wallaroo Splashpad Playground. Cafes and eateries serve pizza, burgers, hot dogs, ice cream and drinks.

Tampa – the third largest city in Florida, located on the coast of the bay of the same name. It is a famous American resort, which is often compared to Miami. Like its competitor, Tampa has developed all the necessary tourist infrastructure. The golden sandy coastline is lined with hotels, bars, restaurants and nightclubs. In Downtown Tampa, the site of former cigar factories now flaunts modern skyscrapers. Tampa is also known for its largest university in Florida – the University of South Florida, as well as the annual pirate festival.
The climate is humid subtropical. This means that hot summers prevail here with a lot of rain (up to +35°C), as well as dry winters with an average daily temperature of +20°C. Despite the fact that hurricanes often hit the Florida peninsula, they bypass Tampa.
Now there are several ways to get to Tampa. It is most convenient to fly here with two transfers – usually such flights stop in Istanbul or Cairo, and then in American cities.
The metro system in the city is replaced by a tram line.
You can rent a small one-room apartment in Tampa with a good repair from $800 per month (which is cheaper than in Miami).
