Texas Adult Day Care and Respite

for Caregivers

Additional Lifestyle Articles

Adult day services centers have grown
markedly since the first centers, as we know them today, opened in
the United States in the 1960s. Given the demographics, we can
expect the demand to increase beyond the estimated 5,000+ centers
already operating in the United States.

Unlike

senior centers, which are usually
sponsored by recreational departments and targeted at healthy older
adults, adult day services are a resource for people with physical
limitations or limited functioning due to memory loss. Adult
day services typically provide:
Supervision. Recreation and
social activities.

Find Adult Day
Services Near You

Adult day services centers serve as an
emerging provider of transitional care and short-term rehabilitation
following hospital discharge. Their reliable support helps restore
balance in times of crisis and enhance overall quality of life for
caregivers. Adult day services allow working caregivers to attend to
job responsibilities with the comfort of knowing their family member
is in a professionally staffed, supportive group program.

Texas Adult Day Care

The State of Texas requires a staff to participant ratio of 1:8.
For Medicaid waiver clients Texas requires a minimum of one
registered nurse or licensed vocational nurse on site 8 hours per
day and states further that sufficient licensed nursing staff must
be on site to meet the nursing needs of the clients.

The
facility must provide all staff with training in fire, disaster, and
evacuation procedures within 3 work days of employment and provide
direct care staff a minimum of 18 hours of training during the first
3 months of employment.

It is also required by the state of
Texas that individuals who self-administer their medications to be
counseled at least once a month by licensed nursing staff to
ascertain if they continue to be capable of self-administering their
medications.

Cost of Adult Day Care in Texas

The average cost of Adult Day Care in Texas is $33 per day. Respite
care provided by adult day care centers is ideal for caregivers
needing respite (a break) for themselves when caring for a loved
ones with Alzheimer’s. Adult day services is a professional care
setting in which older adults, adults living with dementia, or
adults living with disabilities receive individualized therapeutic,
social, and health services for some part of the day.

Adult day service centers provide a
coordinated program of professional and compassionate services for
adults in a community-based group setting. Services are designed to
provide social and some health services to adults who need
supervised care in a safe place outside the home during the day.
They also afford caregivers respite from the demanding
responsibilities of caregiving.

Adult day centers generally operate during normal business hours
five days a week. Some programs offer services in the evenings and
on weekends.

Although each facility may differ
in terms of features, the following are generally offered by most
adult day centers:

  • Social
    activities
    interaction with other participants in
planned activities appropriate for their conditions

  • Transportationdoor-to-door service

  • Meals
    and snacks
participants are provided with meals and
snacks, those with special dietary needs are offered special meals

  • Personal
    care
help with toileting, grooming, eating and other
    personal activities of daily living

  • Therapeutic activitiesexercise and mental
    interaction for all participants.

In
general, there are three (3) types of adult day centers:

  • Social (which
provides meals, recreation and some health-related services)

  • Medical/health
    (which provides social activities as
well as more intensive health and therapeutic services) and

  • Specialized
(which provide services only to specific care recipients, such as
those with diagnosed dementias or developmental disabilities.

Cargivers typically select the type of center a care recipient
attends based on the type of care needed.

“They gave me a stopwatch for my success, but when I left I was told to hand it over.” How ex-BATE player coached at Minsk (fumbled with paperwork, didn’t get all the money), and then left for Lithuania

Jonas Petrauskas doesn’t regret it.

Jonas Petrauskas, despite his first and last name, was born in Minsk. He played football in the capital’s Smena, played for Minsk, BATE and Darida. After the end of his career, the midfielder became a coach. In 2015, he led the Citizens’ women’s team, with which he won the championship and left the Champions League group for the first time in the club’s history. However, following the results of a fairly successful season, the specialist was dismissed and offered to work in the club’s children’s academy. So the coach disappeared from the big radar.

A few years later, Petrauskas decided to return to his roots – he packed up and left for Lithuania. Now the ex-footballer lives in the small town of Šalchininkai and trains the children of the Ketera children’s football club.

In an interview with Andrei Maslovsky, Petrauskas spoke about the change of residence, the painful separation from Minsk and the conditions in which he had to work, about the coronavirus in Lithuania and his impressions of the Belarusian championship.

Why did decide to move to Lithuania?

– This is how the situation has developed. What I did in Minsk did not suit me a little. At some point, I realized that it was hard for me to live in Minsk on the money that I received. I am not good at deceiving people. I have heard that some children’s coaches go to tournaments and take more money from their parents than they should. I can’t and don’t want to do that. And never did. I feel sorry for the parents. Some of their last money is given to their sons.

In general, it was not easy for me, and the club did not help at all. Moreover, “Minsk” could not give back what he owed me. I started looking for a better life. Sent resume. A man from Lithuania responded. We talked and everything was quickly resolved. Despite the Lithuanian roots, the move was difficult. But I was very lucky with the employer. All domestic issues were resolved ahead of time. As a result, I arrived at a place where everything was ready for life and work.

What exactly?

– Apartment, car, computer, office phone – all this has already happened. Arrived and got to work the very next day. There was no need to fix the life.

Searched only in Lithuania?

– Worldwide. And in Russia, and in Ukraine, and in Belarus threw. Even sent to America. There are sites with football vacancies. If anyone is interested, they can search. Finding a job is easy. I was looking for both a children’s coach, and the head coach of an adult team, and an assistant to the head. And it so happened that he got into children’s football.

Was it difficult to live due to the fact that in “Minsk” they did not pay wages?

– No. I’ll tell you that in “Minsk” in terms of salaries, everything is just not bad. Everything was on time. Another thing is the amounts. And I was in a difficult financial situation. It so happened that I had nothing: I even had nowhere to live. I had to take a loan from a bank and buy a cottage in the suburbs.

And the club did not pay me for the season that I worked as the head coach of the Minsk women’s team. We then became champions, we performed well in the Champions League. So far they haven’t given up.

So it was in 2015.

– Yes. And I think this situation is not only with me, but with many girls. This is how it happened. And at that moment I counted heavily on this money. I came to the boss, I said: “This is the situation. If you can’t give me mine, at least lend it.” In general, the situation is strange. I asked for my money. But in the end they didn’t help.

It seemed to me that Igor Shloydo is a rather sympathetic person.

– Probably responsive. But, apparently, he has a lot of people around him in submission and it’s hard for him to keep track of everyone. On the other hand, that’s why he is the boss, to control everything.

And it’s not just about the money. Maybe there was something special about me. We decided with several coaches to unlearn for a license B. They came to Igor Mikhailovich, told about their desire, he said: “Okay. We’ll pay for everything, go.” Came for an interview with Mikhail Nikiforovich Vergeenko. At the end of the conversation, he asks: “Who will pay?” “There will be a club,” I say. And he: “Well… There are always problems with this part of your club. I do not know what to do”. Then I said that I would pay for it myself, and then the club would give it to me. In the end, they still give.

Here’s a similar situation for comparison. In Lithuania, he approached the boss and said: “We need to study. I want to get a coaching license “A”. – “OK”. And the next day he transferred money for his studies. Here is the difference in approaches. You are not investing in me, but investing in the future of the club. One boss of the club was once asked: “Are you not afraid that he will learn and leave you?” He very succinctly replied: “I’m afraid that he will not learn and stay.” Here is the correct approach. And after that I have to work for a certain time. In my case, three years.

But there are problems with this in Minsk. There are very good coaches who leave because they can’t stand this kind of attitude. There is such a guy Zhenya Shpakov. Very talented, smart and promising. But he had to fight somehow. Nobody did anything, and now he works in the federation. How did it happen? If you want smart kids to grow up, then invest in coaches. And it turns out that there are no internships at all. At first they said that they were only for those children’s trainers who work with licensed ages. Okay, but when I was there, no one went anywhere. Only major league and double. And you have to start from the bottom, so that the coach can see how to work with young children.

On the other hand, the emphasis is on mass character. Quantity at the expense of quality.

– I wouldn’t say that. Yes, basically there are three teams in the age group, but they don’t take anyone there. And always these teams were plus or minus equal. There were distortions, but it depends on the coach.

Does “Minsk” owe a lot?

– I will not name the amount, but then it was half of my house, which I bought. True, the house is like that … Getting to work is generally a tragedy. There is a lot of snow in winter, mud in autumn and spring. By the time you get to the bus stop, you either get your feet wet or you get smeared. Then 40 minutes drive to Kamenka, and from there another 40 minutes to the club. Lived like this for a year and a half.

Without a car?

– At first I had it, but then I had to sell it in order to have money. When paying off the loan, borrowed from friends. I thought when they would give me back in the club, and I would pay them off. As a result, “Minsk” did not pay and had to sell vehicles. They didn’t help… And I’m not a stranger to the club. Pupil, played, coached.

If you had called me two years ago, I would have said nasty things. And now it’s cooled down a bit. And yes, it all worked out well in the end. If it wasn’t for that situation, maybe I would never have left. I would tinker like that.

In 2015 you were the head coach of the women’s team, and in the next year you plunged into children’s football. How did it happen?

– Also a strange moment that I didn’t even really understand. When I was fired, they told me that I should have beaten the Danes in the Champions League. But I think that’s an excuse. Well, how to beat when there is nobody. Okay, since they said, then take a coach instead of me who will do it. But it turned out that there were no victories for another three years and the coach worked quietly.

As for my work with girls, now I understand that my mistake was the loss of the locker room. I chose the wrong people to work with.

Do you mean the coaching staff?

– No, I was appointed headquarters :). Although there was no contact. It’s my fault… As a head coach, I should have tried. I talked about the fact that I was not able to establish contact with the girls to the end. Didn’t take those. And when I realized, I was not allowed to fix it. When I was harnessed to the women’s team, I thought that I had a lot of time – a couple of years at least. And I began to build a team: I took young girls, worked for the future. Due to the fact that we have updated the composition and thereby strengthened the competitors, the year was difficult. But we became champions and looked great in the Champions League. And this, I think, is the main indicator for us. We passed the group very clearly. Everyone wins without a hitch. And that was the benchmark for me. I knew we were on the right track. And then it was really difficult with the Danes in the 1/16 finals.

This was Minsk’s first exit from the group.

– Yes. By the way, last year the girls under the leadership of the Ukrainian passed Zurich in the first round of the playoffs. We played with the Swiss for a very long time and did not lose. And now they’re gone. Well done.

So, after the season, they called me and said that the contract would not be renewed due to the reasons I mentioned above, and they offered me to switch to children’s football. Went. I slowly got used to it, it started to work out a little, but … It was a pity for the guys born in 2004 when I left. Something might come out of them. Now there is an excellent coaching staff, they solve problems.

Did you quickly get used to working with children?

– No. It was hard to rebuild after adults, but such work.

The coach with whom I worked once said a phrase that sunk into my soul. It reflects the essence of my work in this club. We were preparing for training and he says: “Go to the field, have a training session, and I will fill out the paperwork.” OK. I had a training session, returned to the coaching room, and then the following dialogue:

– Well, what?

– Worked.

– Work hard, idiot, we’ll give you a badge.

This is the essence of my work.

And at some point everything somehow accumulated. They did not give finances, study and endless pieces of paper, which are not clear to whom they are needed and why at all. It is clear that the state organization does not depend on people, but everything is so useless. You write nonsense just to report. And everyone understands that this is nonsense, but you have to.

For example, you have 28 hours a week for a team and you have to schedule them. That works out to about 4.5 hours a day. And the field is allocated to you for an hour and a half a day. Maximum two. So it turns out that you need to paint for four hours, and you have two. Well, you start to invent: you are there, you are here, you are over there. But you’re not responsible for any locations. You can’t just walk into the gym. Tatyana Anatolyevna [Lovets] works there and they tell her not to interfere. You can’t give a gym to children every day – you can’t. The theory room might be busy. So it turns out that you write that you will conduct a theory, you come at the right time, and it’s busy there and they say to you: “Get out of here.” And then the inspector comes, and you’re not there. Then get a fine. Such is nonsense. However, maybe things have changed now.

There are a lot of things to change in general. But this is a government organization. And as for me, it’s a bit of a draw.

Everything around is collective farm, everything around is mine.

Exactly. Nobody needs. Although if you take it in a good way, you need to work with coaches, of whom there are a lot. Take out a few people, sign free bets for those who give something to the club. They also need to be encouraged somehow, and there everything is plus or minus exactly.

How did you part with Shloydo?

– No way. I went to the sports director: “I want to leave.” – “Where?” – To Lithuania. – “OK. Bye”. Well, how can I regret that I left?

I’ll tell you about what finished me off. After one of the seasons, for success with the boys, they gave me a gift – a stopwatch. Well, here’s a gift. And when you leave, you have to sign a bypass sheet. I go to the warehouse manager, and she: “We must pass the stopwatch.” You understand? Well, how can that be?! I passed, but that’s all. Okay, they gave you a stopwatch, so also give it back. And the most annoying thing is that this is not the warehouse manager’s fault. She needs to report. Such a system…

Lately, there has been a lot of talk about Minsk being merged with Dynamo. How do you look at it?

– I’m against it. It is clear that “Minsk” has problems and questions, but in general it is a big club that gives some result, lets out pupils. But look here too. Now it is stated that they play their own. But I remember when we played in 2010, no one talked about it, but we had four or five pupils in the line-up and three or four more were on the bench. And now you look: one or two are playing, the same number are sitting on the bench.

On the other hand, they sell guys to Dynamo Brest and Minsk. But you need to sell a little further. We need to focus on stronger clubs. It seems like Prishchepa went to Zenit, but something didn’t work out. Couldn’t compete? If so, then you need to think about it. Why didn’t Vasilyev stay at Brugge? They say the passport is not of the European Union. But it’s funny. If he was the best, no one would look at the passport. Would take.

So something is wrong in principle. Especially under such conditions as Minsk has… Although in winter, for example, there are not enough fields and there is nowhere to train. The license works on a quarter field. That’s not the point. Children are not allowed to visit Mayakovka at all – there is a base, a double and girls. The main field for them is Winners. But there is only one artificial, and there are many teams.

***

From Minsk you moved to the town of Shalchininkai with a population of about seven thousand people.

– This is not a problem for me. Everything I need for life is here. And the fact that the population is small, there is only one problem – there are no children. We have 150 people. It seems not a little, but these are all the children that are in the town :). Well, from those who are sensible, for sure. Because I looked through all of them several times. I went around all the kindergartens and schools.

Tell us about the Shalcha club where you work.

– Now we have renamed ourselves “Ketera” and rebranded. The club is for children, but in the future there will be an adult team of our own students. The oldest guys are now 13-14 years old. There should be a team in five-six-seven years.

We work at a good quality stadium. For Lithuania and Belarus, this is exactly the case. The lawn is of the same quality as on the “City” in Borisov. Maybe even a little better. Guys from Minsk came to play with us – they liked it. In addition to this stadium, the school has a box with “synthetics” in the local park. In general, the infrastructure is decent.

Private or public club?

– Private. The city does nothing at all. Everything is done by one person. Like our Nikolai Murashko, who, as I heard, has problems. He began to ask for a lot of money from his parents and they began to leave. When I found out the amount, I thought that people reasonably began to look for something simpler.

How much do your parents pay?

– In Vilnius, the average monthly cost is 40-50 euros. We are currently taking 20 euros per month. This is not much money, especially for Lithuania. The youngest guys train three times a week, the older guys will do five workouts from the new season.

How many trainers are there?

– There are small towns around our city with a smaller population – a thousand people each. And there is one big one 70 kilometers away. I work in two large ones, and assistants work in small ones. In the mornings they teach physical education in schools, and in the evenings they train with young children. When the children grow up and gain experience, we transfer them to groups that study with me.

Do you train with your wife?

– Yes, she works with kids.

What does a club owner do?

– He does not like to advertise himself. The attitude is: “I give money, but you don’t touch me. ” He is engaged in business – he has his own transport company. And he invests his money. I know that as a child I played football, played a little, but then I went into business. And after the son was born, he again caught fire in football.

What is your salary?

– I didn’t even compare it with the Belarusian one. Because coaches in Belarus hardly get that much. And here, in addition to money, there is also an apartment with a car. Our children’s trainer from the employer does not even have this. And I don’t pay anything for it. And they pay me for fuel. There is a card with some kind of limit on gasoline, but I do not choose it.

In fact, I only think about football. There are no household issues. I won’t name the amount of the salary, but it is an order of magnitude more than it was in Minsk.

Is Salcininkai far from major Lithuanian cities?

– 40 kilometers to Vilnius. Even closer than to the city where I go for the second training. I really like living in this town. Quiet, calm, but if you need to have fun, the capital is not far away. As is the sea. There are shops, there are schools, there are kindergartens, there is a lake nearby – it takes 10 minutes to walk to the city beach.

The city is interesting. There seems to be a lot of Soviet heritage, but reinnovation is underway. Houses are sheathed, insulated, made beautiful. It turns out great.

***

What is the current situation in Lithuania with the coronavirus?

– For the time being, the tower teams were allowed to train. If everything goes well, the championship will start soon. And I’ll tell you that according to what I saw, Zalgiris, where Aleksey [Baga] works, should confidently take gold medals. And with a break. There are no rivals for them.

What about Suduva?

– As for me, the team has weakened this year. If nothing has changed during the quarantine and other teams have not strengthened, then Baga should win the championship.

Did you have a strict quarantine?

– Well, how strict. We quarantined ourselves at home. You could go shopping. But such that it does not come out at all, so that, as in Russia, this would not happen.

Were there cases of infection in the city?

– No. There was a rumor that somewhere nearby someone got infected, but no more.

How do you feel about the fact that there is no quarantine in Belarus?

– I don’t even know. I follow the situation only on the news. Basically, everyone writes that it needs to be done. On the other hand, the national championship was not stopped and nothing seems to have worsened so far. Only the fans stopped coming – the stands in Brest are not so full anymore.

Okay, championship. It’s probably not that important. Play in the fresh air, all athletes with immunity. But the parade … As for me, this is dust in the eyes. It is better to give this money to veterans who fought than to spend on it. I understand that this is an important holiday for veterans. So it’s better to do something for them. If the parade is made for veterans, then I think they don’t really need it. Much more important is help with the same finances or something else.

Was the holiday celebrated in Lithuania?

– Where I live, there is a monument to the victims of the war. Wreaths are brought to him, there was even a procession. But not globally. Young people have a more negative attitude towards this. They have a different upbringing. They think differently. Look, 10 kilometers from my town there is a monument to the victims of the war – civilians who were shot by Soviet partisans for helping the Germans. And 20 kilometers from that place there is another monument – to civilians who were shot by the Germans for helping the partisans. This is right next to it.

***

Do you watch the Belarusian championship?

– Yes, almost all games. Some as a simple spectator, some even analyze as a coach.

Which ones do you analyze?

– I watched “Minsk” – “Torpedo-BelAZ” and thought: why five goals? It is clear that there are personnel problems in the defense, but still, you can’t miss so many. And in general, in general, the team concedes more than two goals per game. Not all is well, then. Andrei Alexandrovich [Razin] needs to do something, change something.

I liked some BATE matches – one of the Cup games against Dynamo and the last few matches. After the defeat in Mozyr, somehow everything changed for the better. Nice to look at. Well, Shakhtar are also good in the last rounds. Established ties, replaced players. The right people appeared in the line-up, who should have played from the very beginning, but did not play for various reasons.

What about Slutsk?

– It seems to me that the guys are still euphoric. While they have pret. They are watched, supported all over the world, and this has a certain effect.

Are they drowning for Slutsk in Lithuania?

– I have never heard of anyone here watching the Belarusian championship. No one has discussed it with me :).

So far, Slutsk has more emotions. It seems to me that it will be difficult to continue to maintain such a pace. I think they will finish in the middle of the table. Leader failure? They will definitely catch up: BATE, Shakhtar, I think Dynamo will lift Kuchuk, Brest, in theory, should be higher. There are also many problems with injuries – it means that they did something wrong, since there are so many muscle injuries.

How do you like the game of Dynamo Brest?

– No stability. Khacheridi and Kiki appeared in the center of defense – the game went on, they won confidently. But as soon as the Ukrainian fell out, something broke. We won against Belshina, but for a thin one. Everything was decided by the skill of the performers. Judging by the names, the team should rise higher. But whether they will be pulled out on one skill – I don’t know. I have big doubts about Dynamo. It is unlikely that they will be able to rise above the third place.

You were noted in the comments to two texts about Oleg Dulub. Why didn’t he hold back?

– I was touched by the doctor’s interview. I look at this situation as a coach, put myself in the place of Dulub and understand that there are people in the team who can bring confusion. And I understand how hard it was for him in this situation. You have to find common ground with them. I worked with Oleg Anatolyevich and there are features in his character that are difficult to get along with, but if we talk about work, then he is a professional. There are no questions about this.

The physiotherapist said that Dulub didn’t start training like that. For me, this is nonsense. It just can’t be. Dub is a professional! One of the best in the country. I am definitely on the coach’s side. Yes, I do not know the whole situation, but I understand that if you are a doctor, then you have a chief doctor to whom you report. You basically can’t go anywhere else. It’s none of your business. I told my boss and let him figure it out.

The doctor says such things… About the adductor muscle, which needs to be restored for four weeks, for example. If I had been told that I needed so much time, I would never have given so much. Yes, I would not restore myself so much. A week is the limit, or even less. I ran a little around the field and into the general group. It pulls you, but it’s okay – it will pass.

And Oleg Anatolyevich is right: one can communicate and discuss before a decision is made, but if it is made, it is no longer discussed. And if it turns out that Yermakovich was dissatisfied with the doctor, Andrey Kapsky then fired him altogether, it means that something was still wrong in him.

I understand that you connect your future life with Lithuania?

– Never say never. Maybe I will have to return to Belarus. After the interview at Minsk, they may not take me, but why not to another club. But for now, I see myself here. So far as a children’s coach, then I will look: as a head coach, sports director. Although I confess, I want adrenaline. I want to solve problems, but as it will be, so it will be.

It was not possible to contact the leadership of Minsk to find out their position on the facts cited by Jonas Petrauskas. Chairman Igor Shloydo did not answer calls all Monday and Tuesday morning, and the club’s press officer Alexander Tomin’s phone was turned off.

When an accountant can go on vacation

06/16/2023

My story is probably an ordinary one, but I have absolutely no idea what to do now.

We moved to Yekaterinburg a year ago. It seemed to me that my specialty was in demand and it was easy to find a job as an accountant anywhere. Especially in a big city. But somehow everything turned out so well that at first I was engaged in moving affairs, arranged for children in schools and kindergartens. I started looking for a job right away, but at first there was not much time, and I just looked closely.

Having arranged a family and more or less settled my way of life, I began to seriously look for a job. I must say that according to the ads, with resumes and interviews, I never looked for a job. Immediately after the institute, my father’s friend hired me, I worked for him for 5 years. Then other friends called in. In general, so I changed several companies, and someone always recommended me.

We had no acquaintances in Yekaterinburg, and there was no one to recommend me either. Well, there was no interview experience. In general, I was looking for a job for almost 4 months. After three months of fruitless searching, I was so desperate that I was ready for anything.

I didn’t like it right away at the company where I currently work as a deputy chief accountant. I waited for almost an hour in the office of the chief accountant, who was late for the interview. She behaved arrogantly, immediately switched to “you”.

During the interview she said “you are for my convenience”. I didn’t immediately attach any importance to it, but in general it turned out so. I work on all holidays. She rests, I work. We don’t change, it’s always me. Here in May there were all sorts of school events for children, it coincided that both my son and his on the same day. She did not let me go, she said that someone should be at work and it’s not her, she has a deputy.

I can never take time off, I always have to be on call. She constantly leaves work – either she has something with her children, or about repairs, which she has had for a year, then she says that to the tax office. I have never heard that the chief accountants went to the tax office 2 times a week. I close all business issues. I understand that I am a deputy, but this does not mean that I have to do everything alone? Do you know what I liked about the interview? The fact that I have three children and I will not go on maternity leave. It was with me that the chief accountant later shared her thoughts.

Now there is a problem with summer vacation. I definitely need a vacation in the summer to relax with the children. But after the submission of reports from August 1, our chief accountant goes on vacation. And just for 3 weeks. Nothing bothers her, she can’t even think that we could share August. Remember that I’m for her convenience? And he tells me – go on vacation in September, the velvet season. What is the season when children should be at school?

How do other companies deal with such problems? Deputies chief accountants, tell us how you manage to negotiate? Are you for the convenience of the main or just working?

I understand that there is a vacation schedule, but in our case it does not work. And I don’t want to quit because of this situation. I think with horror that I will have to look for a job again for several months. And no one guarantees that it will be better than this one. Please tell me how can I solve my problem without dismissal?
