Playing
USA Cricket is in the process of establishing a clear and coherent player pathway for everyone wanting to play the game. Whether you’re a small child wanting to try a new sport for the first time, a college student looking for a game to play with your friends, a serious cricket player looking to push your case for representative selection, or a retiree looking to stay active in your twilight years – cricket is a sport for you.
To ensure sustainable growth in cricket in this country, we are investing time, energy and resource into ensuring that the game of cricket is fun, challenging, and accessible at each age-group and at each stage of the player pathway.
Step one of the pathway is our National Entry Level Program which is fast approaching completion. This program aims to target children aged 5-8 in our schools, rec centers, community groups, cricket clubs and academies. All activities are game-based and designed to generate a safe, fun, inclusive and challenging environment, which caters for all ability levels and helps children develop skills whilst having fun. This game-based approach aligns with the USOCs American Development Model at Stage 1.
In the coming months resources will be in place to support targeted introductory programs for girls and boys, as well as broad educational opportunities for non targeted areas.
We are also building out the rest of the Junior Cricket pathway and will update the information on this page as more information becomes available.

International training center King’s El y is located in the small picturesque town of Ely on the Ows River. Or shrouded in the greenery of endless parks, in which centuries-old buildings are hidden. The King’s School Ely school itself, on the basis of which the center operates, occupies the ancient buildings of the Norman monastery. Twenty minutes away is another ancient city – Cambridge. Thanks to this neighborhood, a whole cohort of teachers from the school and the center teach at the same time at the University of Cambridge, and students walk around the campus on weekends.
International students of the center take an active part in the sports, cultural and social life of the college on a par with their British peers. Students sing in the choir, put on plays, play in rock bands, are part of the school sports teams, are elected to the school council, organize charity events and attend clubs of interest. Here they make new friends, practice their spoken language and become part of the school community.
At the International Centre, international students gently enter the British education system and prepare to enter the elite schools in the United Kingdom. At the end of the program, students can continue their studies at the strongest King’s School Ely or apply to another college. The school understands that only a brilliant knowledge of English will allow foreign students to compete with British peers in the academic and professional field in the future. The main emphasis in the college is on English. Students 9–11th grade learn English as a foreign language. High school students begin to prepare for the IELTS exam. Teachers pay equal attention to grammar, writing and speaking, as well as enriching students’ vocabulary.
In addition, students study mathematics and immerse themselves in selected subjects, while gifted students attend additional classes in algebra and geometry. As a result, the students of the center pass the IGCSE and A-level exams perfectly, which gives them the opportunity to enter prestigious colleges in the UK.
The school has a team of tutors who help students solve everyday and educational issues. The students of the center are divided into groups of 10 people of different nationalities, ages and genders, and a tutor is attached to each. Meeting with the wards twice a week, the tutor helps everyone to draw up an individual plan, learn how to achieve goals and analyze their own progress.
The school sends regular progress reports to parents. At the same time, class work, homework, and intermediate test results are analyzed. In anticipation of the exams, parents are also informed of the estimated scores that the student can expect. This helps the family to choose the right college or to tighten weak points in time.
8 idioms that appeared in the language thanks to the English game of cricket
Sport is an integral part of the culture of many countries of the world. For example, cricket is a sport that originated in England in the 16th century and is the second most popular sport in the world after football. In this article, John will talk about the basic rules of cricket, as well as introduce us to 8 idioms that have come into colloquial English thanks to this sport.
Sport is a big part of the culture of many countries, and the terminology of sport often enters the mainstream language. Frequently the original meaning of the sporting term is adapted to apply to other sets of circumstances or situations. This is particularly true of the game of cricket and English.
Cricket is probably the second most popular game in the world after football (or soccer if you think that the “World Series” is an international sporting event). The reason for cricket’s popularity is because it’s the number one sport in several countries with huge populations specifically India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
Cricket has been played in England for hundreds of years, a form of the game was probably played as long ago as the 12th century. However, it was not until the 18th century that the game became a well-organized sport. A full explanation of the rather complex rules of cricket is beyond the scope of this article. Suffice to say that two teams of 11 players try to score points (runs) by hitting a ball, with a bat, that is thrown (bowled) at the battings team’s wicket (three up right sticks-stumps-with a shorter stick balanced on the top). If the bowling team hits the wicket, then that batting player is “ out ” and must be replaced by one of his team mates. When all eleven players on a team have batted the teams swap over. The team with the most runs at the end of the game is declared the winner. Runs are scored when the batting player hits the ball far enough enabling him to “ run ” the length of the “ pitch ” (a 22 yard (20.12 m) long strip of the field in which the game is being played) before the ball can be gathered and returned to the bowler. Extra runs are awarded if the “batsman” can hit the ball to the edge of the field. If the hit ball is caught by one of the bowling team’s players, then the batsman is also ruled out.
Cricketing idioms:
To have a good innings . To have had a long and happy life. “ Tom died last week. He was 95 so he had a good innings. ” An innings is the length of time a batsman manages to stay in front of his wicket before being given “out”.
Be cricket . fair play. ” The way the boss treated his workers was not cricket. “
To hit someone for 6 . To surprise someone. “ When my wife told me she was leaving me it hit me for six. ” A batsman scores 6 runs if he manages to hit the ball hard enough for it to reach the edge of the field without it touching the ground.
To be bowled over . To be astonished by something. “ I was completely bowled over by the performance of the band.
