AMERICA’S MOST ACCREDITED

We’re so proud!

Nationally only 10% of daycares are accredited – nearly 100% of our learning centers are. That’s a big difference,
and that means KinderCare kids are getting the very best. Here’s why.

SCHOOL-READY

What Learning Looks Like

Our talented early-childhood teachers set kids down the path toward becoming lifelong learners in a positive, safe, and nurturing environment.

Coal Mine KinderCare Programs

Infant Programs (6 weeks–1 year)

Leaving your baby in someone else’s care is a big step. Everyone at our
centers—most importantly, our naturally gifted infant teachers—will work with
you to make sure the transition goes smoothly. When you step into our infant
classroom, you’ll see how much we want your infant to feel safe, loved, and
ready to explore their world.

Toddler Programs (1–2 Years)

Everything in our toddler classroom is designed for little explorers. That’s
because a lot is going on at this age. When your child is wandering all over the
place, that means they’re learning and discovering new things every day. We’ll
help them explore their interests (and find new ones!) as they play and learn.

Discovery Preschool Programs (2–3 Years)

This age is filled with so much wonder and curiosity. That’s why we offer a ton
of books and toys and bring artwork down to kids eye level. Children in
discovery preschool also begin to learn how we all work together in a
classroom. Simple math and science, pretend play, and group play help them
get used to a more structured school setting.

Preschool Programs (3–4 Years)

This age is all about expression, when kids really start to form their own ideas
about what they want to play and how they want to create. Every day in our
preschool classroom, your child will explore science experiments, create
artwork, and play pretend—all the skills needed for their big next step:
kindergarten!

Prekindergarten Programs (4–5 Years)

When you walk into one of our pre-K classrooms, you’ll see artwork and
writing displayed around the room. Labels are everywhere to help kids connect
letters with words. You’ll also see pictures on the walls that reflect the families
in our community. Your child will also deepen their knowledge in language,
math, science, Spanish, and social skills.

Before- and After-School Programs (5–12 Years)

You can count on us to provide reliable care for your school-ager while you’re
at work, with safe transportation from our center to your child’s school and
back! Whether your child wants to start a drama club, build a volcano, or
create a comic book, they will have a place to follow their dreams. Your child
will start and end the day with a whole lot of fun!

School Break Programs (preschool, prekindergarten, and school-age)

Winter break, spring break, summer break—when school’s out (but you still need to work), you
can count on KinderCare to provide a safe and supportive learning environment that’s focused
on fun. We welcome children ages 5–12 during school break times and make sure they have a
sensational, screen-free experience they won’t forget.

Learning Adventures – Enrichment Program

Cooking Academy™ (3 – 12 Years)

In Cooking Academy, kids learn new recipes from cultures around the world and
develop a healthy relationship with food. They’ll whip up everything from Southwest
rainbow lettuce wraps to pumpkin muffins, building their skills in STEM, communication,
and more along the way. And yes—little chefs get to eat their culinary creations!

Music Explorers™ (2 – 4 Years)

KinderCare families are already giving a standing ovation to our newest Learning
Adventures program: Music Explorers! Kids will learn to sing, move, listen, play
instruments, and even create their own tunes. Our original curriculum blends math,
science, social studies, literacy, and mindfulness (think yoga!) for a uniquely KinderCare
way of learning the foundations of music.

Phonics Adventures® (2 – 4 Years)

Learning how to read is a whole lot of fun at KinderCare! We help kids grow to love
books and words (and get ready for kindergarten) in our Phonics Adventures program.
From discovering the basics of vowels to practicing poetry, kids learn all about letters
and sounds in small-group lessons made just for their age group. (Bonus: Kids who
attend our phonics program are more prepared than their peers for school—and we
have the data to prove it.)

STEM Innovators (3-8 Years)

You’ve probably heard a lot about how important STEM education is for your child, but
what does that really mean? Our STEM Innovators program takes kids’ natural ability to
make sense of the world and applies it to robotics, chemistry, coding, geology, and
more. While your child experiments, they’ll discover how to use technology to do
amazing things!

Our Teachers

We’re the only company in early childhood education to select teachers based on natural talent. Being a great educator isn’t enough though.
KinderCare teachers are also amazing listeners, nurturers, boo-boo fixers, and smile-makers. Put more simply,
we love our teachers and your child will, too.

  • We have two children and have been at KinderCare since 2008. Each day we drop off our children and are greeted with open arms by professional, trusted and talented teachers and management staff. We don’t have to think twice about our children’s care which promotes peace of mind that our children are in a safe, nurturing, and learning environment. KinderCare is very important to our family as it has provided our children a successful opportunity for creativity, socialization, and advancement in academics through the curriculum. We highly recommend the Coal Mine KinderCare to any parents who are looking for a home away from home for their children.

  • Our family was in a bit of a bind last December. We needed good, reliable care for our nine-month-old son that we were able to afford. We had an interview with Coal Mine Kinder Care and left feeling very relieved. It was very bright, clean and cheery with a friendly staff. Our son started the following week and we have been so happy with our experience. He has become a very out going, active, energetic, happy toddler. He has grown and learned so much thanks to the teachers and the curriculum that is put in place. I highly recommend Coal Mine Kinder Care!

    Ashley H. – KinderCare Parent
  • The staff are wonderful to work with. I asked that my youngest son be put in a summer reading program and not just phonics. They researched what other centers had done and created a new program for our center. I also asked if it would be possible for my older son to read a specific author for his summer reading program and they found curriculum with that specific author. It is great to know they take each individual parerent’s request into consideration and try to achieve what the parent is asking!

The deepest mines in the world

The tallest building in the world – Burj Hadiva, UAE, 828 meters. But if you place it at the bottom of the Towton mine in South Africa, then you can put almost 5 more of these towers on top. And in the Shakhterskaya mine, Donbass, it is quite possible to put at least 3 Lakhta Centers in height.

While some countries are competing with skyscrapers, others are actively working in the opposite direction: the race of underground builders continues in the world. Now the study of physical processes in underground laboratories is becoming more and more relevant in the world, and new scientific underground complexes are being actively built. So why do people go underground? Explore, mine, work in unique conditions created underground.

Wells

The Kola super-deep well, also known as the “hole to hell”, is still the leader among wells drilled for scientific purposes. This is a rather remarkable object: in the 70s, Soviet scientists were actively engaged in the study of geological properties, received serious resources for this and drilled almost 12 km (12262 m) on the Kola Peninsula.

The well is very famous thanks to a legend launched with someone’s light hand: as if at a depth, scientists managed to record the “sounds of hell”. In fact, the sounds could have been caused by the melting of the equipment when the temperature mark of 180 degrees was reached. Because of this, the work stopped. The main discovery made by geologists is a refutation of the thesis that the rock is steadily compacted with depth. By the way, the diameter of the hole is only 22 cm. Now the well is mothballed.

The Soviet scientists came closest to the result in Germany. Well over 9 km deep was drilled in Bavaria under the German Deep Continental Drilling Program in 1994. The project took almost 7 years. At the same time, German specialists took into account the difficulties overcome by Soviet colleagues associated with fluctuations and deviations of the drill that occur at great depths. They also pre-established high heat resistance. Based on the data obtained, a new program was founded, a wider one, the International Continental Scientific Drilling Program to study deep processes in the earth’s surface.

After the completion of the project in Bavaria, German experts helped with project a 3 km deep well at the San Andreas Fault in California . Similar wells have been drilled at considerable depths in Oklahoma in the United States and on the island of Guadalupe in Mexico. Wells of small depth are drilled constantly and everywhere, these are the necessary practices of geological surveys for the construction and planning of cities.

oil and gas wells compete in a separate category . In 2008, the Qatari well drilled by the Swiss company Transocean Ltd overtook the Kola well by 28 meters in depth, reaching 12290 meters. But already in 2011, Exxon Neftegaz Limited, a Russian company controlled by the American Exxon, first drilled a 12,345-meter well in the Odoptu Sea as part of the Sakhalin I project, and a year later, a 12,376-meter well in Chayvo as part of the Sakhalin II project.

Mines

Mines of impressive depth in Africa. The Towton mine is located near Johannesburg in South Africa and extends to a depth of almost 4 km. There are many gold mines in South Africa, and many of them have been developed for a long time, so they reach great depths, but this one is special. The name is translated from the Tswana language as “great lion”.

Towton has been operating since 1957, during which time more than 800 km of underground tunnels have been dug there. The temperature at the lower levels without cooling reaches 55 degrees . The mine reached its record depth in 2008, when one of the parts of the complex was deepened. Now workings occur at a depth of 1.85 km to 3.9. Previous studies suggested that Towtona would dry up by 2015, but so far this has not happened. In the meantime, the mine has lost the status of the leader in terms of depth in the region.

Mponeng Mine rivals Towton and is already passing the 4 km mark, officially becoming the deepest mine in the world, especially considering the decline of the “great lion”. Gold is also mined here, and this is one of the richest resources on the planet. The temperature at depth reaches 66 degrees. In 2006, a bacterium was discovered here that can exist without the sun – instead of photosynthesis, it uses radiation to feed.

The Savuka mine, 3.7 km deep, is also located in South Africa near Towton. They are developed by one company AngloGoldAshanti, and the mined gold is processed at one plant. Also in South Africa there are several more mines with a depth of about 3 km.

In Europe, one of the deepest coal mines is Shakhterskaya in Donbass. It has a depth of about 1.5 kilometers (1546 meters), and development began in 1986. It is officially the deepest coal mine in the world. In Canada, there is a deep copper-zinc mine Kidd Creek near Ontario. Its depth reaches 2.9 km. In the same place, the Creighton mine, which mines nickel, is 2.5 km deep.

Kimberlite pipes

Kimberlite pipes – diamond mining sites – are more modest in depth than mines, but still interesting. South African diamond mine at Kimberley, called “Big Hole”, goes down 213 meters. The diameter of the mine is about one and a half kilometers, it was developed from 1871 to 1914. Tons of diamonds were mined here by manual labor, which makes this deposit unique in its kind, given its depth.

The famous large De Beers diamonds and the yellow Tiffany were once mined here. Now the mine is flooded and is a popular tourist destination. By the way, it was by the name of the city next to the “Big Hole” that the rock containing diamonds got its name – kimberlite. The “diamond fever” began here, when one by one the largest diamonds in the world began to be found.

The northernmost diamond mining site is interesting for its alien appearance – 3 pipes near the lake Lac de Grace . Here, Canadian miners descended to 182 meters.

But the undisputed champion is Yakutia and the Mir kimberlite pipe , 525 meters deep. Diameter 1.2 km. The field was discovered at 1955 year. After 2 years, open-pit mining began, which was stopped in the early 2000s, now development is carried out by the mine method. Potentially, diamond mining can “go down” to a depth of about 1 km.

The largest diamond of 342.5 carats from this mine was found in 1980 and was named XXVI Congress CPSU , now it is stored in the Kremlin’s Diamond Fund.

Coal mines are a thing of the past that must be abandoned

Climate and Environment

It’s time to move away from the dirtiest and ever more expensive fossil fuel: coal. This was stated by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who proposed to close coal mines, but at the same time provide miners and employees of coal-fired power plants with work, including through the development of renewable energy sources.

Speaking at a meeting organized by the UK and Canada on the use of coal in energy, the head of the UN called for more determination to reduce pollution and keep temperature rises below 1.5°C.

“Phasing coal out of the power industry is the most important step towards our goal of keeping temperatures below 1.5 degrees Celsius. We are talking about reducing the use of coal in electricity generation by 80 percent by 2030 compared to 2010 levels,” said António Guterres, recalling that air pollution associated with fossil fuels is the cause of one in five deaths worldwide. the world.

It is now cheaper to build new capacity using renewable energy than new coal-fired power plants

As the UN Secretary General said, gone are the days when coal provided entire regions with cheap electricity and stable jobs. Today it is more profitable to get electricity from renewable sources.

“It is now cheaper to build new capacities using renewable energy sources in almost all markets than new coal-fired power plants,” the Secretary General emphasized.

Referring to data from the International Energy Agency, Guterres noted that in countries such as China and India, the cost of building new installations in the field of solar energy is less than the operation of existing coal-fired power plants.

Three phases of moving away from coal as a source of electricity

The UN chief believes the time has come to move away from coal as a source of electricity more decisively. This should be done in phases in three priority areas:

  • cancel all planned projects for the construction of coal-fired power plants and end dependence on coal;
  • stop international financing of coal-fired power plants and switch investments to renewable energy projects;
  • create new jobs through the development of clean energy sources, which will solve the problem of the inevitable loss of work in mines

The head of the UN expressed the hope that the members of the “big seven” already at their June summit will announce their plans to phase out coal dependence in the electricity sector.
