As much as you might be horrified to see your weekly screen time update, you probably know a handful of apps you can’t imagine (or don’t want to imagine) living your life without. You might even have them divided into folders for work, home, entertainment, food, and shopping—for a good reason—because there seems to be an app for basically everything.

Even when it comes to cleaning and housework, there are apps that are designed to make the work feel easier. Now that so many of people are spending more time in their homes than ever, it’s harder to ignore those pesky household chores.

“It’s super important to prioritize not just a clean kitchen or living space, but also clean indoor air,” says Allison Evans, the co-founder of nontoxic cleaning brand Branch Basics. For Evans, this means focusing on products with non-toxic ingredients. For you, spending more time at home might mean that you finally do the deep clean you’ve been putting off when it comes to your kitchen appliances. Or maybe it means rethinking how you divide household chores between you and your partner. Whatever you’re hoping to focus on when it comes to cleaning, though, there’s likely an app that can help.

Best for People Who Want to Delegate Chores in Their Family: OurHome

Do you share your home with people who have trouble feeling motivated to help? Try OurHome, which makes it easy to divide household chores between family members and keep track of who’s getting their work done. It also makes it easy to reward people for completing tasks. One reviewer wrote, “I’ve downloaded this app to keep track of chores and behavior. With a family of 7 it can get hectic at times. This app has allowed me to customize tasks for point values and also customize wrong behavior for subtracting points. ” If a family of seven can master it, you can too.

Best for People Who Want to Avoid Toxic Ingredients: ThinkDirty

ThinkDirty is an app with more than 22,000 reviews and an average rating of 4.8 stars, so… clearly people love it. And this includes Evans from Branch Basics, who says she loves the app and avoids using products in her home that rank higher than Zero on the app. “To dramatically improve your indoor air quality, vet your products before you buy them with a third-party that fact-checks for toxic ingredients,” Evans suggests. If that sounds like something you’d like to do while cleaning, try out ThinkDirty.

Best for People Who Want to Outsource Work: Takl

Have you been avoiding power washing the deck? Cutting the lawn? Deep cleaning your garage? Whatever you want to do (or… don’t want to do?), there’s likely someone who’s willing to do it for you for a price. Takl helps you find people who are willing to take on household chores for payment. With more than 3,000 reviews and 4.8 stars, people really love this app. If you’re able to hire someone to take on some cleaning work for you in a socially distanced manner, why not book someone?

Best for People Who Suck at Laundry: Laundry Day

Do you never know what to do with your laundry? Cold water? Hot water? All whites? All colors? Dry cleaning? Not dry cleaning? Air dry? It can be confusing. That’s why Laundry Day exists—to read those labels on clothing that we all often ignore or misinterpret entirely. This app has less than 50 reviews, but still has a solid 4.4 rating in the app store, which is always a good sign.

Best for People Who Love a To-Do List: Tody

Tody is rated 13th in productivity in the app store (out of all apps), so you know that it’s a good one. According to the App Store, Tody is “a smarter to-do list for managing household cleaning routines. It will optimize and motivate your cleaning.” If you love a to-do list and hate cleaning, this one’s for you.

Best for People Who Can’t Get Their Kids to Do Chores: Homey

Homey is a pretty similar concept to Our Home, but if you are specifically trying to motivate your younger children to do chores, this one might be a slightly better option (though Our Home does have slightly better reviews overall). As one reviewer wrote in their 5-star review, “This has been the first app that got my kids doing chores consistently, and without me nagging.”

Here are five cleaning apps that you need to make your life easier!

Our Home –

Chores, Rewards, Groceries, and Calendar

If you are looking for a cleaning app that the whole family can use, then the Our Home app might be the best choice for you. Our Home is a lot more than just a cleaning task checklist, there is also a built-in calendar, and grocery list option.

And it’s free to use with no ads and no hidden costs.

You can encourage your kids to get involved in the family chores by assigning each child specific tasks to complete. Once the tasks are complete they get to check them off of their list which is rewarding and can build up their confidence and self-esteem.

You can even link each task to a reward like screen time or allowance money. The Our Home App is available for use on both Apple and Android devices.

Cleaning Checklist

Cleaning Checklist is another cleaning app that can be shared with family members or roommates so that everyone can see what chores have already been completed and what still needs to be done.

The app breaks down chores into a simple checklist for each room in the house. It allows marking tasks complete once it has been done. You can also divide your checklist by rooms, it provides a fuss-free way to keep track of what needs to be done. From wiping down surfaces to cleaning windows, it helps people easily manage their chores.

The Cleaning Checklist app is a streamlined and straightforward app to help you keep your home in good working order.

This app is free and is currently only available for android devices.

Home Routines

This customizable cleaning app can keep you and your family on track when it comes to keeping your home clean. There are seven zones to which you can assign rooms and tasks that need to be completed, and a star to check them off with when they are done. You can even have an email sent showing all that you have accomplished that day.

Want to make your cleaning tasks more fun?

There is a timer option where you can put yourself to the test and see how many tasks you can complete in ten or fifteen-minute increments. You can set all of your checklists to restart daily, weekly, or monthly without re-entering what needs to be done.

The Home Routines app is available on both android and iPhone devices.

Do! –  –

Simple To Do List

Are you looking for an app that can help to simplify your life as well as your home cleaning routine? Then Do might be just the app that you have been looking for!

The Do app gives you a place to keep all of your to-do lists in one place. The simple interface is easy to use, you can have repetitive tasks repeated daily, weekly, or monthly and you can color-code tasks (like kitchen chores) to make them easier to find.

The Do app is available on Apple and Android devices. This app will send you alerts reminding you of tasks that have yet to be completed.

Tody –

Smarter Cleaning

Tody is an easy-to-use app that encourages household chores by making them more fun. This app will remind you of how long it has been since that chore was completed.

Do you know how you might think that you cleaned the microwave a week ago when it turns out it was two or even three weeks ago? Tody takes care of the reminder for you by tracking when it was last done.

The Tody app divides each room into a zone where you can enter the tasks that need to be done in it. The app will then let you know when a task was last completed and when it will need to be done again.

Tody is available for both iPhone and Android devices.

Right now, most kids are out of school for summer vacation. This can be the perfect opportunity to try some of these cleaning apps.

You can have everyone in a routine of keeping your home clean and in order before school starts back. Knowing the school year brings schedules overloaded with activities.

Build a cleaning routine over the summer and enjoy a clean, organized home all year long!

Top 5 Free Apps for Cleaning a Spotless Home

A good home cleaning app can be a great help when you’re trying to clean up your house. Not only will it remind you to clean up those stains you keep forgetting about, but it can also help you break down what might seem like an overwhelming task into tiny pieces. Even better, many of them can be shared with other family members so the app can pester them to do their chores and save you the hassle. Here are the best cleaning apps we’ve found to keep your household running smoothly. nine0003

2. Flawless

Unlike Sweepy’s detailed setup, Spotless gets straight to the point. In a similar format, you can add tasks to rooms and set the frequency of these tasks. The app generates a to-do list that tells you what you need to do that day in one window. It doesn’t have a lot of bells and whistles, but its simple format is very appealing to those who just want a continuous list of things they need to do to keep their house clean. There is also no premium version for this, so you won’t have to make any purchases once you download the app. A minimalist dream! nine0003

3. Our home is work and rewards

Our house is great for families! The first thing you do is create a family account by choosing a cute avatar and preferred color scheme. The chore categories here go beyond cleaning your home and include things like spirituality (for those looking to integrate regular meditation practices, spiritual pursuits, etc.), health, creativity, study, and more. It also integrates healthy eating by offering an entire category of products. After you list your family members and set up categories, you can assign individual responsibilities to them to create a completely personalized household management experience. You can add rewards for specific family members after completing tasks, which is great for kids or even adults who need some extra motivation! nine0003

4 Dirtfree – Smart home cleaning

Dirtfree lets you do housework at different frequencies, but with creativity. You can earn achievements, track your cleaning streaks, and even read popular articles with cleaning tips and tricks. The app also keeps track of how clean your home is, prompting you to close the ring just like on an Apple Watch. The only way to share your in-app home with another person is to subscribe to the premium version, so if you want to manage more than just yourself for free, another app might be a better option. But if you’re willing to pay for the service, you can find some fun extra features. nine0003

5. Home comfort – housework and benefits.

If you have a family that offers an allowance in exchange for housework, this app will make it easy for you. Not only can you create a family account and assign work to family members, but you can also link your bank account to create automatic payments. No more getting bills from your kids with all the missed payments (I used to keep the running amount I sent to mom quarterly).
