Flying non-stop from Chesapeake (Virginia) to Virginia Beach

Now let’s assume you have a private jet and you can fly in the
fastest possible straight line between Chesapeake, Virginia and
Virginia Beach, Virginia. Because of the curvature of the Earth, the
shortest distance is actually the “great circle” distance, or
“as the crow flies” which is calculated using an iterative
Vincenty formula.

Flight distance: 18 miles or 29 km

Flight time: 32 minutes

The straight line flight distance is 6 miles less than driving on roads, which means the driving distance is roughly 1.3x of the flight distance.

Your plane flies much faster than a car, so the flight time is about 1/1th of the time it would take to drive.

This is a relatively short flight in a private plane, but you might be planning to book a commercial flight. In that case, your travel time would really need to
include how many minutes to get to your local airport, wait
for security, board and taxi on the runway, land at the other
airport, and get to your destination.

City of Virginia Beach

Virginia Beach is a city on the East Coast of the United States. It is located in southeastern Virginia and is the largest city in the state.

Virginia Beach is one of the settlements that form the urban agglomeration of Hampton Roads (Hampton Roads), spread around the Chesapeake Bay. In total, about 1.7 million people live in this region. In the city of Virginia Beach itself, 448 thousand people live in 2013. Despite the fact that Virginia Beach is the most populous city, Norfolk can be considered the business center of the Hampton Roads region. And Virginia Beach is actually a resort “suburb”.

Virginia Beach is regularly included in the ratings and lists of the most attractive cities in America published by various publications.

On April 26, 1607, after an unusually long voyage lasting 144 days, 3 ships: the Susanna Constant, the Happy Way and the Discovery reached the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay. The Englishman Christopher Newport commanded the ships. He was a former pirate hired by the Virginia Company of London to establish a settlement in Virginia, a colony that had been settled by the British since the late 16th century. The colonists spent three days at the site of the first landing and named it Cape Henry (Cape Henry). From the Cape they set off along the bay and founded Jamestown, the first English settlement in what is now the United States.

The first settlement within what is now Virginia Beach was formed in 1621, but the area was poorly developed for over a century. Only from the end of the 19th century, after the advent of railroad communication and electricity, the small settlement of Virginia Beach was transformed into a resort area. Since the beginning of the 20th century, the resort has received recognition from tourists and in 1906 Virginia Beach received city status. Over the next 45 years, Virginia Beach continued to grow in popularity. Today, Virginia Beach is a family-oriented resort offering a classic beach experience. In addition to the beaches, which are about 60 km long, Virginia Beach can offer entertainment from fishing, surfing and whale watching to parks, attractions and casinos.

The main sectors of the regional economy: agriculture, business, industry, construction, trade and tourism.

The military is of great importance for the city: the army and the navy. There are 11 major military installations in the Hampton Roads region, including the world’s largest naval base, where the US Atlantic Fleet is based. 7 large companies producing defense/military products operate in the region at once. The direct contribution of the military to the economy is $13.5 billion. As of 2011, over 122,000 civilians and military personnel were stationed at the bases, and their combined earnings were estimated at $8.2 billion a year.

The volume of agricultural production is estimated at 120 million dollars a year. There are over 170 private farms in the region. The total value of building permits issued in 2011 was estimated at $461 million.

In 2010, 6.2 million tourists visited Virginia Beach on a one-day visit, and another 5.5 million were on a multi-day visit.
