Belvoir Christian Academy was established in Chattanooga, TN in 1887.
For over 130 years, the school has been serving children from Pre-K through 8th grade. In addition, we serve INFANTS, starting at age sixweeks, through Pre-K2, Pre-K3 and Pre-K4. Children may progress from Pre-K into our kindergarten, elementary and middle school programs. Open 6:30 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Beginning in the infant room, babies are nurtured and read to and engaged in play with a variety of infant developmental toys and books.
Once a child turns one-year-old (and must be walking well), Pre-K1, children take part in scheduled daily academic activities to prepare them for the next level of Pre-K2 and beyond.
Teachers work with the children each day on letter recognition and sounds, numbers, colors, shapes, calendar, weather, and as a private Christian school, students will receive daily biblical teaching through age-appropriate lessons. Children in PK3 and above attend the weekly chapel service on Wednesday mornings.
Children regularly work on arts and crafts projects to develop fine motor skills, and at this level, they also begin to understand socialization skills and are encouraged to use simple manners, share play items and and take turns in their daily activities.
For children in PK4 and under, nutritious lunches and two snacks daily are provided in the weekly tuition. We have a fully-equipped kitchen and cafeteria where healthy meals are prepared and served. Infants – PK2 eat lunch within their classrooms. PK3 and above students travel to the cafeteria to eat lunch as a group.
By Tennessee state law, children in PK4 and under must be provided a nap/rest time of at least 1.5 hours. After lunch, children will lie down for nap with their designated nap mats or cots.
The PK1 and PK2 classes both have separate playground areas with age-appropriate equipment. PK3 and above have access to a large playground with multiple pieces of playground equipment to suit all ages. Children have the opportunity to play outside each day, weather-permitting, and have separate recess times from the older students. The school also has a full-size gymnasium to allow children ample room to play when weather does not allow for outside play time.

In addition to PK3 – 8th grade, BCA offers child care for infants ages six weeks through early age three*. The Center is located on the BCA campus, with rooms dedicated to theseage groups. We offer a year-round program, open weekdays, 6:30 a.m. – 6 p.m., closed only on major holidays.

JUNGLE TOWN Has Executive Chef prepared meals following guidelines
from our personal Dietitian.
We also follow the Dept. of Agriculture guidelines for balanced food intake.
Mandatory Annual Training is required for all food prep staff. Jungle Town works with “Our Daily Bread of Tennessee” to accomplish this.
Fresh fruits, vegetables, protein (Only beef and chicken, NO PORK) and grains (Bread/crackers) are provided to our children daily. Milk (1% for all Children over 2 years old) and/or fruit juices are also provided at every meal. Whole milk (Vitamin D Milk) is provided for all Children under 2.
Every plate, cup, fork, or spoon used at mealtimes is discarded after every meal. This keeps the center clean and clear of food-borne diseases.
All food is purchased every other day to ensure freshness and very little is stored on site.

JUNGLE TOWN has made the enrollment of Children VERY EASY. We need a BIRTH CERTIFICATE. We need a SHOT RECORD (Unless you have chosen to be vaccination exempt).
We need the Enrollment Fee and payment for the first week of care. Each parent receives a coded “fob” to access the premises automatically.
(The doors remain locked at all times unless you have an access fob)
Daily drop off and pick up must be done by a parent or assigned adult. A signature at time of drop off and pick is all that is required for daily attendance.

We provide you EXCELLENCE at an affordable rate. $230.00 per week all inclusive.
WE ARE A FLAT RATE CARE CENTER. Beyond the 24 month age mark, every child pays the same. Also, the price is locked in so you can be assured there will be no increases. All fees are guaranteed to never increase for the duration of your child’s enrollment.
Every student 2 to 5 years old, pays the same rate (under 2-year-old pays a higher rate because of Government-mandated ratio’s).
Fee includes 3 meals a day, education, arts, crafts, 2nd language education, and monthly fun events.

The American plant Volkswagen organized an innovative corporate health program even before the construction of its first car
Not so long ago, the city of Chattanooga (Tennessee, USA) became home to a new Volkswagen plant. And although it is not yet operating at part capacity, hundreds of people were hired during the year.
“When Volkswagen chose Chattanooga, we were faced with unique challenges,” recalls Jason Guess (safety and health manager). “We needed employees who could handle the increased demand for our new Passat sedan. This is our first plant in the US and we are not a company that takes over human resources or established processes to get our feet wet. So we were faced with the challenge of building everything from scratch.”
The city of Chattanooga has a number of challenges in terms of health care. Ranked 42nd in the American Health Rankings in 2010, Tennessee is near the bottom of the list when assessing the health status of the US population. Chattanooga, in the ranking of “healthy cities” of the state, is similarly located almost at the very bottom.
Jason explains: “Personnel have to complete the car assembly process within a certain amount of time, as well as solve other tasks that are new to them. In most cases, our employees have not experienced such a stressful job in the past.” As a result, the Volkswagen plant in Chattanooga needed a proper hiring strategy.
Management knew that the cornerstone of success in the US was at the heart of employee working conditions. Along with Jason, Volkswagen hired Marsha Wood (Medical and Healthcare Specialist). She was given the task of developing a program for the adaptation of personnel to difficult working conditions and ensuring a sustainable trend in the behavior of employees aimed at a healthy lifestyle.
To this end, Jason and Marsha began a benchmarking process based on their experience in the automotive industry. Jason notes: “We have improved everything necessary to meet the emerging needs. Working like a magic wand, this concept continues to serve us with the same good return.
Industrial Sports Program
Marsha and her team studied the important functions of the work of personnel (in areas such as painting, repair and installation), then determined what health status of employees is necessary for performing specific jobs. Ergonomics scores measured the severity of various tasks. As a result, the experts developed the mandatory three-week daily Industrial Athlete (IA) program. Each two-hour session during working hours is aimed at keeping the body of the employee in the condition necessary to perform the work.
New personnel go through a designated three-week program before starting their main job. Everyone must complete a questionnaire, as well as undergo an examination and receive a functional assessment. Healthy lifestyle experts provide feedback in the form of personal consultations. In those areas of health where the worker is not strong, certain exercises are prescribed to train the weaknesses.
A typical sports session includes:
• Stretching – 10-15 minutes;
• Exercises for the development of the cardiovascular system – 30 minutes;
• Strengthening hands – 15 minutes;
• Torso strengthening, body stabilization – 1 hour.
According to Marsha’s technology: “Each session we focus on a different topic, such as posture or nutrition. During the educational program it is impossible to “not pass”. We just hope to see improvements from applying the techniques suggested to employees.”
And positive results are being achieved. Of the 8 techniques performed at the start of the program as a basis, 7 are applied and bring improvements by 8% or more by the end of the program. So employees can lose 30 pounds and increase their endurance levels.
Marsha stresses that the IA program is for people of all fitness levels. “Participants become very comfortable working while doing the exercises. Sometimes we need to stop them as they compete with each other and risk injury. At the end of the program, further participation is not required, but we are trying to maintain their newfound fitness by encouraging self-study. We also offered to repeat the program to employees hired at the beginning of last year.”
Marsha knows the importance of tracking success. “Any time you start a new program, when you don’t know your employees yet, you worry about things like injuries or absenteeism. These indicators are at a low level in our company. The moral component and participation in voluntary programs gave a high return. Employees are involved in the work on the program, provide support and make recommendations for improvements. Managers receive positive feedback from employees and work groups. This is a direct result of implementing a culture of health from day one.”
Jason sees team building as a key benefit of the IA program. “Remember, we are a new company, these people did not know each other before. When we bring them together in an orientation class, they not only learn about the company, jobs, and corporate culture, but they bond through shared experiences. They get to know each other in a more comfortable environment. After completing the program, they see each other in the workshops, already being a close-knit team that cannot be created simply with the help of classroom lectures.”
At the beginning of 2011, a cafe for employees was opened at the plant. Marsha held a meeting with the staff of the cafe and planned a wellness complex of events. A 500-calorie meal is offered daily for less than $5. A new section with organic food has also been added to the menu.
Other wellness initiatives include:
• Visits by a health professional to work areas during breaks.
• Weekly blood pressure check.
• Identification of health themes and tasks for each month.
• Annual health checkups and health fairs.
• Creation of a 2,500-acre park adjacent to the plant site for walking, cycling, and outdoor recreation.
Marcia admires the enthusiasm of the employees: “They are happy with their new job and delighted with the many resources that Volkswagen has to offer to meet their needs. They want to be here. From the day the employee is hired, they learn about the IA program. I won’t say that everyone loves exercise…no. But comments such as: “Thank you for this program…You have increased my motivation and I have learned a lot. ..I would never have done this on my own”…are typical.”
Long Term Health Plan
Understanding the need to support employees in leading a healthy lifestyle, Marsha says that employees form a positive opinion even before they are hired by the plant. “Our new fitness center welcomes workers at the main entrance to the factory. It’s not quite finished yet, but everyone loves it. Employees keep asking when it will open. We have already started offering sports activities twice a week. When the fitness center is completed, there will be more staff training classes, a weight management program, and monthly fitness programs. We make fitness accessible and easy for employees before, during and after work.”
The organization plans to have a multiservice medical center and a kindergarten. Primary care services will be provided at a reduced cost. Marsha hopes these opportunities encourage employees and their families to actively take care of their own health. “When Volkswagen in Chattanooga is fully operational, our insurance will cover over 4,700 lives. We want to achieve an individual approach in all aspects of the health of workers.”
Jason says that employee wellness has always been an important part of the workflow at Volkswagen, as it is part of the global corporate strategy. “They are very interested in our approach and are implementing some improvements in factories in other countries. The difference in implementing corporate health programs from the very beginning of work is our advantage.”
Lessons Learned
Marsha believes it is important for employees to see familiar faces throughout the program. We employ people who believe in and understand the program, and these must be the same people who spread the culture of health. We create important relationships with employees that allow them to get all the help they need in a timely manner. This is what the healthcare professional should use as…preventive measures. ”
Marsha’s excitement about the Volkswagen program being implemented in Chattanooga is clear. “This place is different from any other place I have worked before. We make it clear to our employees that their lives and safety are very important… and that their families are important to us too. If our employees have problems at home or at work, they can talk to us about it. Our existing and planned programs are comprehensive, practical and simple. We know that if we motivate people to move, the program will work successfully.”
Jason agrees: “We have launched a new plant and are fostering a culture that sees health and wellness as a positive foundation. Employees are beginning to realize that this is not only a great company to work with, from product to benefits and extras, but also an organization that supports them and their families individually.”
