Nurse’s Corner

Some teachers have expressed concern that students are hungry particularly in the afternoon. Many classes have snack in the morning and I’m always preaching about a healthy breakfast, however some students don’t eat all their lunch because they play around or don’t like what is served. Teachers cannot supply afternoon snacks in the classroom and it takes time away from academic work.

Please review the cafeteria menu with your child and encourage them to eat! It’s amazing how much food we see being thrown away! 

Digital Vision screening for Pre-K, Kinder, 1st, and 3rd was done by the Lion’s Club recently. I will be sending home referral letters for students who need to be seen by an eye doctor. Also any child who did not have their glasses that day and failed will get a referral letter to remind parents that they need their glasses everyday at school and should be replaced if lost or broken!

 

DROPPING Off Prescription Medications: When you drop off prescription medications such as eye drops, ear drops, and antibiotics at the front office in the morning, MAKE SURE you write a note including instructions, parent name and phone number or Amber will ask you to fill out a medication form. I will call parents to confirm before administering the medication. Also remember NO NURSE on Thursdays.  No one is available to administer the medication. If your student needs non routine medication, you or a family member will have to come to school and give it to them. 

 

Did you know? Healthy, moist mucus membranes can help fight off bacteria. The school has installed several filtered water bottle stations.  Please send your child with a water bottle and encourage them to use these stations. Also chapstick can go a long way to help fight the sever dryness in our area.  

 

THANK YOU for all the physician injury reports, doctor/dental excuses, and phone calls! It really helps me do my job and check up on your children while they are here at school. Be aware, students with medical issues will require new Doctor’s orders and medications such as ASTHMA INHALERS AND EPI-PENS for the new school year. Please notify the nurse if your student has any new medical or allergy issues.  

Certificates of Exemption are due BEFORE THE BEGINNING OF THE SCHOOL YEAR.  It must be filed with the State Department of Health and a notarized copy returned to Jennie Farquhar, School Nurse.  Please call (505) 986-4005 if you need a form or have any questions.  

Without a Certificate of Exemption, your student’s vaccines MUST be up to date before school starts.  Please check with your pediatrician at every visit.

  • Cover coughs and keep fingers out of noses and mouths!

  • Disinfect your home surfaces and doorknobs, light switches, phones, keyboards!

  • Take you child’s temperature and KEEP THEM HOME IF RUNNING A FEVER!

  • KEEP THEM HOME if the student is VOMITING and/or has DIARRHEA!

Dental sealants are done for 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades

Please remind your student to wash their hands frequently, especially after using the restroom and before eating, but also after using the computer lab or any other area that many people use and touch.  Also let them know that most diseases around schools are spread through the nose, ears, eyes and mouth.  If they can minimize touching their face, they can avoid getting sick.

Festival Faerieworlds is an annual music and arts festival held in Oregon. The main theme of the festival is “fairy kingdom”. The 2017 festival will take place August 25-27 at Horning’s Hideout in Portland, Oregon.

Developments

The festival brings together world-famous artists and writers, Grammy-winning musicians, and artisans whose work is related to folklore, especially the world of fairy tales. Faerieworlds was created by Emilio and Kelly Miller-Lopez of Woodland and Robert Gould of Imaginosis. The festival features the work of Brian Froud and his wife Wendy, whose best-selling fairy tales and artistic concepts created with Jim Henson have an international reach.

Unlike other fairy and revival festivals, Faerieworlds’ main stage concerts extend into the night and include light and sound performances inspired by the work of Brian Froud. The closing of Faerieworlds festivals often provides an opportunity to see dances performed by troupes from all over the world.

Locations

Since its inception, Faerieworlds festivals have been held in the Western United States, in Sedona, Prescott, Santa Fe, Los Angeles, then Oregon, first in the North Plains, then from 2005 to 2008 in Veneta, and since 2009year at the Mount Pisgah Arboretum., due to the increase in the number of visitors.
