    • CTA Liberty Dress Code

At Liberty, we have an enforced dress code to help contribute to the CTAs academic environment.  The guidelines at Liberty meet or exceed the CUSD guidelines.  Just as dress codes address professional standards in the workplace, the CTA “prescribed” dress code promotes the purpose of academics. “Prescribed” dress code mean that all students are expected to dress in a neat attractive fashion reflecting the pride in themselves and their school.  It is both the parents’ and child’s responsibility to ensure compliance with these standards.  Liberty’s mandatory dress code can be found in the CUSD handbook.  For a quick reference please view the:Liberty Dress Code Tips Presentation

In Arizona, around 560 public charter schools are thriving, serving over 232,000 students in communities all around the state. Add to this, a record-breaking increase in charter enrollment during the COVID-19 pandemic, and it’s clear that these innovative schools play a critical role in our public education system.  But because of an outdated school finance system, public charters received on a statewide average $1,308 less* in per-pupil-funding than their district counterparts in 2020.

BASIS Charter Schools is a global network of schools using the BASIS Curriculum curriculum (owned by BASIS Curriculum Schools, Inc.) [2] . BASIS Curriculum Schools also own BASIS Independent Schools and BASIS International Schools. BASIS Curriculum Schools are operated by BASIS Education Group, LLC, a commercial charter management organization based in Scottsdale, Arizona. [3]

BASIS Charter Schools strives to prepare students from elementary to high school to be globally competitive. This is achieved through extended homework hours, lecture-focused classes with a focus on success on standardized tests like Extended Test Placement, and the ability to graduate early or complete a senior project.

    History

The first charter school Basis, Basis Tucson, was founded in Tuson in 1998 in 1998 in 1998 in 1998 Blok and Olga Blok with the aim of teaching students at the international level.

In 2003 BASIS Scottsdale was opened. In 2010 Oro Valley was founded. A year later, Basis opened three schools at once in Chandler, Peoria, and Flagstaff. [4] Basis continued its expansion by opening another school in Tucson and one in Phoenix proper in the fall of 2012, along with their first school outside of Arizona, located in Washington, DC. In 2013, Basis opened a tenth and eleventh campus in Arizona at Ahvatuki and Mesa, while a second campus outside of Arizona was added in San Antonio, Texas. Basis also started its primary program (K-4) at its Basis Tucson plant. In 2014, Basis opened in Prescott, Arizona. In 2015, Basis opened its sixteenth Arizona school in Goodyear, AZ. [5]

Basis has appeared in a documentary. 2 Million Minutes: A 21st century solution that looked at the differences between charter school versus regular public school curriculums. [6] In response to the documentary, Newt Gingrich and Al Sharpton visited the Basis campus to give speeches about the importance of education in America. [7] [8] [9] [10]

    Locations

There are currently 28 BASIS schools, including 21 in Arizona, [11] one located in Louisiana, two in Texas, one in Washington DC, and one in New York.

    Success

Foundation schools regularly top US national school rankings, ranking in the top five or more of U. S. News & World Report Best High Schools 2017 ranking, [12] and ranked #1 in America’s Toughest High Schools list published on Washington Post .

    Criticism and controversy

Both the Basis schools and their parent organization have been the subject of criticism and controversy. Critics argue that Basis does not provide adequate financial transparency and accountability because it uses a commercial management company. [13] Another 2010 investigative article questioned founders’ salaries compared to teachers and other public school administrators. [14]

Other critics disagree with the accelerated learning program and Basis’ general educational philosophy. Some argue that Basis places too much emphasis on standardized testing. [15] Critics also note that Basis’ performance in national rating systems such as the U.S. News & World Report, relies heavily on Basis’ emphasis on mandatory Advanced Placement (AP), as these ranking systems place a high value on the percentage of students in a school who pass AP tests. [16] Critics also disagree with Basis’ dropout rate (senior grades are typically one-third to one-fourth of fifth grade class size) and argue that Basis achieves good test scores in part by dropping out underperforming students. [17] [18] [19] In 2013, the DC Public Charter School Board denied Basis DC’s request to expand, citing concerns about the large number of students who had left the school since it opened. 9 Craig Harris (May 7, 2018). “At Basis charter schools, there is another way to increase teacher salaries: parental donations.” Republic of Arizona.
