Peterhof Cascades, St.

1. Cascades correspond to each palace of Peterhof: Grand Palace – Grand Cascade; Monpleziru – the cascade of Dragons, or “Chessboard Mountain”; Hermitage – Lion, or cascade; Marley – cascade “Golden Mountain”.

   Grand Cascade

   The Grand Cascade, located in front of the Grand Palace, is the most grandiose fountain structure in the world. The ensemble of the Grand Cascade includes many sculptural compositions – bronze statues, busts, vases, bas-reliefs, as well as picturesque grottoes, stairs, arches and bowls. All this splendor shimmers with gold and is washed by jets from countless fountains and fountains. The Grand Cascade is the most grandiose fountain structure in the world: it combines 64 fountains, 255 sculptures and decorative details. In the center of the Grand Cascade is a swimming pool. The center of the pool, in turn, is decorated with the most famous sculpture of Peterhof – “Samson tearing the mouth of a lion.” Symbolically, this composition means Russia’s victory over Sweden in the Northern War (the Swedish coat of arms included the image of a lion, and the victory in the Battle of Poltava was won on the day of St. Samson the Hospitable).

   The powerful three-meter figure of the biblical hero personifies the victorious Russia, and a twenty-meter water column escapes from the mouth of the defeated lion.

   Eight fountains spouting from the mouths of gilded dolphins frolicking at Samson’s feet create a colorful water extravaganza. From the niches of the rock, lions peep out, personifying the countries of the world. Fountains also gush out of their mouths. The central basin of the Grand Cascade is connected to the sea through the Sea Canal. It leads from the center of the pool directly into the bay.

   Fountains are also arranged on both sides of the canal in 22 round bowls, the jets of which rise to a height of four meters. This alley was called the Alley of Fountains.

   Terraces adjoin the Grand Cascade on both sides – marble cascades with five fountain bowls on each side. These are the famous “Fountains on the Terraces”. On both sides of each terrace there are sculptures representing mythological heroes. The bas-reliefs on the waterfall ledges are also dedicated to this theme. For example, Perseus holding the severed head of the Gorgon Medusa.

   Lion Cascade

   The Lion’s (Hermitage) cascade is linked in composition with the Hermitage. It was built in 1799-1801 and has an open Greek temple. The stone foundation is surrounded on three sides by gray granite columns. There are 14 of them in total. Fountains of marble vases beat between the columns. In the middle of the inner basin, on an elevation of granite stones, there is a bronze figure of the nymph Aganippa. On both sides of the cascade are “guarded” by bronze lions.

   Cascade of Dragons or “Chessboard Mountain”

   One of the most picturesque buildings of Peterhof is the Cascade of Dragons or Chess Mountain. The 21 m high cascade is a sloping surface of a mountain, on top of which a small grotto gapes. The road in front of the grotto is made in the form of wide steps, cascading. These artists painted the steps in black and white cells, which is why the structure acquired the name “Chessboard Mountain”.

   On the upper ledge in front of the arch of the grotto, three monumental bronze figures of colorfully painted winged dragons pressed against the chess cages, as if preparing for a fight. On the sides of the cascade are marble statues made by Italian masters. This is a unique collection of genuine decorative and park sculptures of the 18th century. The cascade has been restored and again delights the visitors of Peterhof.

   Golden Mountain Cascade

   Golden Mountain Cascade impresses with the luxury of its finishes. Imagine a grandiose staircase with golden steps through which murmuring water flows. Twenty-two drain steps are lined with marble, and their sheer walls are upholstered with gilded copper sheets. On the sides of the cascade are six marble statues – Greek gods – on pedestals.

   On the upper wall in the center there is a statue of the lord of the seas Neptune with a trident in his hands; to his left is Triton blowing a sea shell; on the right – Bacchus, the god of wine and fun, and the white marble of the statues create a festive color scheme of the cascade.

   In the pool in front of the cascade stands another statue of Flora – the goddess of spring and renewal of nature.

   Hardware and software catalog

   Automated system for evaluating the protection of acoustic speech information from leakage due to high-frequency irradiation (system) is designed to conduct instrumental studies of technical means in order to determine the presence of modulation transformation effects in them that occur due to high-frequency irradiation.

   According to its technical and functional characteristics, the system complies with the requirements of the regulatory and methodological document “Methodology for assessing the effectiveness of protecting acoustic speech information from leakage due to high-frequency irradiation of technical means and systems” (approved by order of the FSTEC of Russia dated July 12, 2018 No. 0022).

   • providing the system operator with a user interface that allows setting all the necessary parameters for the system to operate in the mode of automatic task execution and in the mode of manual examination of technical means;
   • the ability to generate tasks indicating the settings of the measuring equipment and automatic search and measurement of the signal parameters of the studied technical means in accordance with the prepared task;
   • the ability to form several frequency ranges within one task to provide the possibility of sequential search for signals with different settings of the measuring equipment;
   • the ability to visualize during the study of signals of interest;
   • the ability to save previously generated tasks and the results of their execution;
   • protection of software from unauthorized use using electronic key technology;
   • the ability to control its own functioning by generating messages and signals through the software interface about the passage of control commands to the component parts of the system and their execution.
