Last week I wrote an article about CareLuLu and how they recently graduated from the 500 Startups accelerator in Batch 10 . We’ve long known 500 Startups is a great jumping off point for startups with big ideas, and this week it’s been proven once again as CareLuLu has just announced the close of a successful seed funding round. In total CareLuLu raised $1.7 million in funding led by Khosla Ventures . Other notable participants were Crunchfund , The Startup Factory , and 500 Startups. They’ve only been live for a little over a year and the new funding will go to expand to new markets outside of Washington DC while simultaneously growing their team . CareLuLu, founded by Patrick Matos and Evgeniya Usmanova, specializes in simplifying the search process of finding a daycare or preschool. The user response has been stellar across the board for Matos and Usmanova. “It [CareLuLu] is truly a godsend after trying to find a needle in a haystack on Craigslist,” says Ann Brameyer, a CareLuLu user. That’s the obvious benefit, helping parents, but CareLuLu also helps child care providers grow their own businesses. According to the team, a lot of daycare centers have no online presence. “CareLuLu has been a great marketing tool for our DC based child care center,” says Milena Mattingly, owner of Kiddie Academy of DC child care center. It’s something you might not consider too often unless you have children, finding a suitable facility that is, but the need is absolutely present. The $1.7 million in seed funding will not only help CareLuLu as they expand, but also the numerous daycares, child care centers, and preschools who can benefit from the service.
