About the Provider
Description: Captain Hunt School is a public early learning center located in Central Falls, Rhode Island. Central Falls is one square mile that borders Providence. The school provides an inclusive preschool experience for any preschool age child with an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) in Central Falls. Approximately forty percent of the preschool age students at Captain Hunt School have an IEP. Additionally, Eighteen preschool students in total are chosen through the State of Rhode Island Pre-Kindergarten lottery for the DUAL LANGUAGE PREK class at MI Robertson. Approximately another 200 preschool students are chosen for full or half day programs at Captain Hunt School which is the other public early learning center that is part of the Central Falls public schools. Fifty four spaces at Captain Hunt School are filled by students who are chosen through the Department of Education lottery. The other spaces are chosen with the same protocol and systems as the State of Rhode Island Pre- Kindergarten program lottery but facilitated by the district of Central Falls itself. Our school is a safe and nurturing environment that respects and embraces cultural, economic, and ethnic diversity. The MI Robertson DUAL LANGUAGE PREK professional community work in conjunction with the Captain Hunt School professional community to meet the academic, social, emotional and physical needs of all children who participate in the program. Approximately 200 students attend the preschool program at Captain Hunt School and another 18 students are enrolled in the DUAL LANGUAGE PREK at MI Robertson. All children and families who reside in Central Falls are welcome to apply for the program. All families interested in the program are given tours and information. Children screened by Central Falls Outreach Team who are determined eligible for an Individualized Education Plan (IEP)/services at Captain Hunt School or MI Robertson School are given a program at Captain Hunt School or MI Robertson Elementary in alignment with their needs. Students not eligible for a program/classroom at Captain Hunt School or MI Robertson School are placed in a database reflective of the system used by the State Pre-Kindergarten Program at the Department of Education. When spaces become available, the computer generates a randomized list in order for all families interested to have equal opportunity for the program. The Department of Education funds 3 all day Pre-Kindergarten classes at Captain Hunt School and 1 at MI Robertson School. RIDE chose the names of the students who will participate in the 3 classrooms at Captain Hunt School and the DUAL LANGUAGE PREK at MI Robertson School. Those names are chosen from applications that are submitted to their system after parents complete and submit the application to the Captain Hunt School, MI Robertson School and/or the Central Falls Public School District. Many of the children and families speak other languages at home but most of the children speak Spanish. Each classroom at Captain Hunt School has at least one teacher or Teacher Assistant who speaks Spanish in order to communicate with children and families. All 3 Teachers in the MI Robertson School DUAL LANGUAGE PREK are bi-lingual. (Spanish.) Teachers all have the Department of Education’s certification to be an Early Childhood Teacher in a public school in Rhode Island. Teachers are trained in working with English Language Learners and four early childhood teachers have certification from the Department of Education in order to be teachers of English Language Learners. Captain Hunt School and MI Robertson Schools are proud to welcome children who may have special needs. Those special needs include developmental delays and disabilities, mental health diagnosis, behavioral challenges and physical challenges. Special Education services at Captain Hunt School and MI Robertson School are available to all students and families who have residence in our city, without exception. We believe that every child is unique and valued and so, as a school, every effort is made to provide special education services to children within their general education environment here in Central Falls. That happens at Captain Hunt School and MI Robertson School. Depending upon the classroom community, certified special education teachers consult with general education teachers as needed. Sometimes, special educators provide direct service to students within the child’s classroom, as appropriate/determined by a child’s Individualized Education Plan. Five Speech Therapists, a Psychologist, a Guidance Counselor, a Social Worker, an Occupational Therapist and a Physical Therapist also provide support to children and families at Captain Hunt School and MI Robertson School as needed/determined by Individualized Education Plan. A full-time Home School Liaison also provide information, resources, connections, collaboration, support and translation as needed ~to families as they navigate Captain Hunt School and MI Robertson School as their child’s first public school experience.

“I was worried about the crowd based on the traffic going in but was most pleasantly surprised. It was our first time taking my granddaughter and we had so much fun!! It was a delightful experience and I would highly recommend it!! The petting zoo was our favorite but the Easter Bunny ran a close second. He (or she) did a fabulous job of making our girl giggle and enjoy the experience!”

“My kids and I had a fantastic day today! What fun! We went to the Hunt Club Farm & for $12 each, we got a pass to their new TreeWalk as well as to see the animals ♡ 💙 I want to give a shout out to Hunt Club Farm. Not only was the TreeWalk amazing, the animals adorable and well taken care of, the bathroom facilities clean, but every experience with employees was quite exemplary‼️ The ticket ladies were so kind, upbeat, and answered my questions with kindness. Toward the end of our visit, my son bumped his head quite hard on a beam from hurrying up the rock wall side of the playground. On the way out, we stopped into the gift shop to look at some local honey and salsas, etc. Bonnie, the lady working in the gift shop today, noticed my son was super quiet and was sitting on a bench. (He was doing okay, but he gets quiet for a while after getting hurt). When she found out he had bumped his head, she ran over to the water cooler and gave him a water to put on his forehead to keep him cool or to drink. He thanked her. Even though I told her he was fine, she called Savannah to come check on Liam. Savannah brought my son an ice pack and asked for our names and number. She filled out the report and said she will call and check on Liam tomorrow. These ladies are definitely assets to the Hunt Club Farm. They went out of their way to make sure Liam was doing okay and to help him. Although he was quiet while there (he did thank them), on the walk to the car he talked about them and told me they made him feel better. ♡ Later in the day I received a phone call from Steven. I forgot I called early in the morning & left a message asking if the treewalk was opened. He was also so kind and definitely an asset to the company as well. I must say, it was definitely worth the $12 each as the kids had a lot of fun and on top of that, the service and kind-hearted customer service will bring us back and recommend people to visit there.”

I visited as an adult, with no children, and I had a great time! I love farm animals and can’t currently have everything I want and my heart was soooo full after getting to pet the goats, sheep, pigs, and even a calf! I can’t wait to go back. The little shop on the way out was so cute and a popsicle was the perfect way to wrap up a great afternoon..

This is the best interactive farm I have ever gone to. The price to get in is beyond fair. The people who ran the pony rides were so understanding when my daughter wanted to get off mid-ride because she got a little nervous. All of the animals were really well socialized and were well taken care of. The areas were all well kept as well. Restrooms were very clean. My little family will definitely be coming back here again.

This is the first time that I have gone to a haunt with so many things to do.
They have lots of vendors and festival food options.
It’s the perfect balance of family fun and spooky Halloween vibes.

I just wanted to message you to tell you that we came last night for the haunted attraction. My husband and I come every year but this was our first time as a whole family and first time for my 8 year old. She was adamant that she wanted to come along this time lol. We had a blast! I think this was the best year I’ve ever seen it! We were genuinely startled so many times and our kids had so much fun! The hayride was more family friendly and I appreciated the attendant reminding riders not to use vulgar language! The best part and what I was most impressed about was how kind all of the actors were with our 8 year old! They scared her but then would high five her and remind her it was all in fun to make sure she was comfortable. And they all did that through every attraction! It definitely made a difference in how much fun she had and I really appreciated their extra effort with that! She did not want to leave as you were closing! We always come as a family for the fall festival and now we will make the haunted attraction an annual family tradition as well! I wanted to take the time to reach out and tell you how great it was this year and to thank you all for such a fun family night!!
Thanks again,
Jamie Waugaman

“We absolutely love taking our granddaughter to Hunt Club Farm. The environment is so welcoming, clean, and especially geared to the little ones. She absolutely loves running around to all of her animal friends who are so well-tended. Especially fun is the Tree Walk overlooking the beautiful pond where she can see turtles and ducks. We love to see her explore nature, learn about animals, and experience the fresh air and sunshine. She adores the pony rides, too. Kudos to Beth at the Tree Walk and Ricky who tends the ponies and guides the rides. We love you. We bought season passes which is the best! Thank you, Hunt Club Farm.”

Hung Cao for Congress
Hung Cao is a retired Navy Captain
who served in Special Operations
for twenty-five years. He and his
wife April are the parents of five
beautiful children whom they

move across the United States
and around the world in the
service of our nation, Hung
and April made their home
in Purcellville, Virginia where
they have been active in their community and their church, Cornerstone Chapel for the last five years.
Hung is a refugee from Vietnam and immigrant to the United States. Hung’s family escaped in 1975 shortly before the fall of Saigon. After a brief stay in the United States, his family relocated to West Africa where he was educated in French schools before returning to Annandale, Virginia in 1982. Hung is a proud member of the inaugural graduating class at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. Moved by the opportunities afforded to his family, Hung vowed to serve his newly adopted country and was accepted to the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. Upon graduation, he served as a Deep Sea Diver and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Officer. As a Navy Diver, he salvaged several plane wreckages including the recovery of John F. Kennedy Jr, Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, and Lauren Bessette. Hung deployed in combat to Iraq, Afghanistan and Somalia serving alongside Special Forces and SEAL Teams.
Hung’s non-combat assignments included balancing the Navy’s $140 Billion budget at the Pentagon, writing Department of Defense policy, working with the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force in San Diego California, establishing a Sheriff’s bomb squad in Monterey, California, and participating in humanitarian and disaster relief in Pakistan. In his private time, Hung has served multiple non-profit organizations and gone on mission trips around the world. He and his family established a 501(c)3 which builds beeping Easter Eggs for children with visual impairments.
Hung returned from his last deployment to Afghanistan in January 2021. As he was retiring from the United States Navy in October, Kabul fell, eerily similar to his native Saigon, leaving hundreds of Americans stranded and abandoning our allies. These events and the issues that are crippling our nation prompted him to run for the U.S. House of Representatives in Virginia’s tenth Congressional District. Washington has forgotten that it works for the American people and needs a clear reminder, as Ronald Reagan said, that “we the people tell the government what to do; it doesn’t tell us”. The webinar was organized by ANO “Center for Electronic Democracy Technologies” together with SIE “INTECH” (Nizhnevartovsk State University). The theme of the training webinar on October 18 was devoted to the content of the course “Digital Transformation in the Service of Citizens” and the achievement of the national goal “Digital Transformation”.
The webinar was held online on the Zoom platform with 27 connection points for participants from the studios of educational organizations and from the workplaces of project participants. In total, about 35 people took part – these are the organizers, curators and tutors of the project from Khanty-Mansiysk, Nizhnevartovsk, Nyagan, Pokachi, Raduzhny, Kondinsky district (Lugovoy, Mezhdurechensky, village of Polovinka, village of Mortka, village of Yagodny).
The training webinar was opened by Natalia Maslova, Project Manager “Digital Transformation at the Service of Citizens”. She greeted the participants of the event and said that the presentation materials of the project will help the tutors to conduct the first lesson with the audience and provide information about the content of the course and the achievement of the national goal “Digital Transformation”.
Based on a detailed presentation, Natalia Maslova introduced the tutors to the terms and definitions of the digital economy, digital transformation, digital maturity, end-to-end technologies. She noted that digital transformation requires new skills and competencies from people, readiness and ability to use new technologies in everyday life.
“In achieving the national goal “Digital Transformation”, it is people and their digital competencies that become the main ones. The very concept of a profession is being transformed, competency profiles become changeable, they are modified following technological and organizational changes, turning into “dynamic profiles”. A distinction should be made between skills related to simple digital literacy, understood as basic computer and Internet skills, and advanced digital skills, related to digital proficiency. Advanced skills are part of the job functions for professionals that support working in a digital environment. It is these competencies that tutors and students receive when studying the course “Digital Transformation in the Service of Citizens,” said Natalya Maslova.
She spoke in detail about the content of the course based on the Educational and Methodological Manual “Digital Transformation in the Service of Citizens”, which includes four main sections: “Fundamentals of Digital Literacy”, “Resources and Services of the Digital Economy”, “Fundamentals of Cyber Security”, “Fundamentals of Digital transformations.”
Natalya Maslova presented the resources and services of the public services portal and spoke about the new “Concept for the transition to the provision of 24 hours a day, 7 days a week the absolute majority of state and municipal services without the need for the personal presence of citizens”, adopted in April this year. She emphasized that in the Concept, applicants are invited to solve their problems at any time in “one click” in an intuitive way. The provision of state and municipal services in electronic form should relieve applicants from the need for personal presence to submit documents and sign documents with their own hands.
Natalya Maslova noted another important document – this is the “Strategic Direction in the field of digital transformation of education, related to the field of activity of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, which is determined by the order of the Government of the Russian Federation dated December 2, 2021 No. 3427-r”. The goal of the digital transformation of the education sector is to provide effective information support for participants in educational relations in the framework of organizing the process of obtaining education and managing educational activities.
Then she spoke about the structure, content and targets of the “Digital Transformation Strategy of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug-Yugra”, which was updated in August this year.
In addition, the project leader paid special attention to the issues of cyber security, ensuring trust and security in the digital environment, gave examples of new methods of cyber fraud and measures to counter cyber threats.

The Digital Transformation at the Service of Citizens project aims to train citizens in the digital competencies needed to live in modern society.
The project is organized by ANO “Center for Electronic Democracy Technologies” with the support of the Department of Information Technologies and Digital Development and the Department of Education and Science of Yugra.
Methodological and consulting support for the training course is provided by the Small Innovative Enterprise “Intellectual Technologies” at the Nizhnevartovsk State University, which has an educational license.
The project is being implemented at the expense of a grant from the Governor of Yugra.

Bullying is a problem of violence, bullying at school – a relatively new term that gives a name to an old phenomenon – child abuse. It is important to talk about the existence of this problem, that bullying, one way or another, is present in most children’s institutions and groups. Because bullying is extremely traumatic for child victims and its consequences are hard for them for many years, and in some cases can be tragic. Sometimes, without qualified help, it is difficult to notice those spiritual wounds that remain for many years if they are not healed in time. Timely identification of the problem, an adequate response to it and the receipt of timely psychological assistance can greatly reduce the consequences of abuse.
If:
– no desire to go to school;
– you are afraid to go out;
– you are humiliated;
– you are insulted on the Internet;
– you hear threats against you;
– you are being bullied.
If your child:
– is reluctant to go to school and is very happy about any opportunity not to go there;
– does not meet with classmates, does not invite them home and does not go to visit;
– every now and then “loses” things and pocket money;
– became withdrawn or quick-tempered, takes out evil on younger brothers and sisters;
– constantly depressed…
The Children’s Helpline regularly receives calls from children, teenagers and parents about the problem of violence among peers. Timely consultation with a qualified psychologist can be obtained anonymously, free of charge, around the clock by calling 8-800-2000-122.

As part of the informatics lesson, a conversation was held “about the use of resources on the Internet”, “about the danger of online fraud”. The children also participated in a thematic quiz.
Primary school students took an active part in the Internet Safety drawing competition. We watched a series of cartoons on information security. Khant in the pursuit of the Istar Chapter 1 O Holy Mother Ishtar! The queen of the three worlds, who adorned herself with karma! Thank you for descending to the prayers of the unworthy and showed her mercy by revealing her face to me! Now lies my way to a marvelous country, which is not and has never been on the map – there, in the sacred monastery of the omnipotent goddess, I will cut the long -awaited exemption from wheels … Something is not coming out of my head today’s dream. Wow, I dreamed that I was a man, judging by the clothes – a wandering monk, the scene – I don’t know, in my opinion, some kind of deep antiquity. And the place is strange, I have never been there, but in a dream everything was so clear. Somewhere in ancient Asia… Stop! Asia, monks, this is certainly very interesting, but I seem to have been hanging over the New Folder folder for half an hour. And what to choose? I finally chose a photo and hovered over “upload”. The photo is like a photo, the face is half-turned to the side, the eyes are securely hidden behind the thick glasses of sunglasses, the curls with the effect of careless styling change the oval unrecognizably. And a western hat. The best thing for a dating site. It was not enough to meet someone familiar here. What else? Choose the purpose of your stay on the site … Well, let it be flirting, correspondence … And to hell with you, also a date, well, a relationship with the prospect of marriage, otherwise they will accept more … So. What’s next. Age, height, weight, chest volume … Do you need anything else? Well, there, skin color, health insurance number and credit card? Is someone posting their real age here? It seems to me that youngsters deliberately add years to themselves, and those who are older, on the contrary, discard . .. The next question … I wonder if they are serious? What turns you on? And a choice of answers? So, let’s see… Leather, jeans, smells… Site for fetishists. However, this is a disaster when jeans excite. By God, don’t go out into the yard. And the skin? Oh, I can’t. Well, what else is there? What is your favorite activity? Answer stupid questions, what else. No, it is impossible to look at all this without humor. I would even say – without sarcasm. So, let’s add this photo – from afar, in a yellow sundress, again in sunglasses, and this – in long-range reconnaissance overalls, and the fact that in a helmet, right, is such nonsense. All. Save. Does not give. What’s wrong? Oh, I forgot to give my name. And let me be real. I mean, completely real. All the same, it is so rare that it is unlikely that any of the friends, having met a girl under the nickname “Istar” on the site, will think of their friend Tara. Now that’s all for sure. We are waiting for the results. The results were not long in coming. M-yes. And I was also afraid that they would take me for a girl selling a body … I chose a photo in closed clothes … I ignored the indecent questions of the questionnaire. And judging by several dozen messages, they didn’t even take me for a prostitute. For a nymphomaniac. Mentally turned. And, judging by the proposals from the gigolos, a settler of this kind, for an aging nymphomaniac. Hm. I was right at the age of four, categorically declaring to my parents that after twenty the humanoid race comes to a deep old age. M-yes. No, if Marek had been quicker, it would never have occurred to me to amuse myself while waiting for Ree in this way. It’s just … Just until he finally announces publicly about the seriousness of his intentions (the status in VKontakte-2 “There is a girl” does not count), that is, about our long-awaited engagement, why not have a little fun … And Marek will announce , that’s for sure. And very soon. More specifically, at today’s Halloween party. Next week there will be an acquaintance with his noble family, then we will probably fly somewhere . .. To Venus, for example. After transferring it to a new orbit and turning it into a resort planet, it is considered good form to take brides and wives there for a honeymoon. Then … What will happen to me then? I was distracted from thinking about the future by an incoming message signal from a user named Captain. Just the Captain? Not the Mysterious Wanderer, not Your Jackpot, not the Rich and Noble, and not even Captain Obvious? Captain. And what, I wonder, does he write? “Let’s meet” And the captain is laconic. No hello, no goodbye. And in general, what is this – a question, a proposal ?! I hate those types who act like they have the world in their pocket! I took a sip of my completely cold coffee, which made my mood even worse, and could not help but sarcastically: “Not in this life” I’ll also do without punctuation, just think, what an important bird! The following message was the result of evolutionary development. It had punctuation marks. More precisely, one sign. “In this one. Today at midnight” No, but he is impudent! Marek stood before my eyes again. Mareus, is a typical Pole, with a shock of large rings of light blond curls, marbled white skin and charming dimples on his cheeks. Even in my imagination, Marek decided to appear in front of me in an insanely expensive watch – watches in our age of implantation of chips choose either very rich people or complete dudes as part of their image. And Marek fits both of these categories. In a broad-shouldered muffler, mirror-polished shoes, casually fitting jeans worth a year’s worth of a small colonized moon, Mareusz Skrylski was accustomed to smiling from the front page of mobile newspapers and hologram magazines. Yes, he is good to everyone, but his perfect pictures with his family sometimes make me sad. It’s hard not to get chilled under the tenacious and prickly, albeit masked by a mask of benevolence, look of Madame Skrylsky, his mother, who can easily be confused with his younger sister . .. Yes, plastic surgery does not stand still, and Mrs. Skrylsky is the best confirmation of this … The sound of an incoming message brought me back to reality. Captain again? I won’t even read! No, I’ll probably send this user to the “Ignored” folder, straight to virtual perverts, so as not to even receive his impudent scribbling! I’ll just see what he writes here… “At midnight.” And put an end to it. It must be what! Who does he take me for? For a notorious student from an amazingly complex combined film? No, he takes himself for a macho, a kind of virtual alpha male, to which females run at the first whistle. Well, the fact that the females are virtual, right, cannot upset him, because in real life, she is probably some kind of balding outsider with a belly or a pimply nerd. “Is it too late for a first date?” Here, I couldn’t resist. I’m too angry. Rimma would have come sooner, or something! The answer came almost instantly. Just right, Tara Tara? I started. No, nonsense. He simply used a derivative of Istar. We must give him credit, it does not look as stupid as the greetings of dozens of other users, who from the first or second message start to whine: “What is your real name, doll?” “Istar is an ID name, princess?” “What was your mother’s name? Does she need a son-in-law by any chance?” And stuff like that. Does it matter to you what my name is, people. This is the Network, the virtual space, the space of the game. Instead of accepting its rules, anyway, you already play by them, since you came here, you want to show off, and from this all your messages stink of never exclusive copy-paste. And the only person who used his brain even a little turned out to be a narrow-minded brute. Is that what it is: “Meet me,” “At midnight”? And not a word about “where”. Naturally, nowhere. Our laconic Captain is a Tamagotchi man who writes the same mura to dozens, if not hundreds of girls on the site. And then enjoy reading the answers. Brrrr… Or maybe he is a bot, a program… Now let’s see! Agreed, Captain |

— Father! Galen’s ringing voice broke the abbot’s thoughts. “Father, what do we do now?” Brother Kevin says the boat is completely wrecked…
– Forget about the boat, my child. We don’t need her anymore. Let’s go on foot.
— Where to? Long away?
“Perhaps,” the head of the community answered evasively. “That’s not so important now, Galen. I see Gerald is all right?
Yes, father! A happy smile lit up the boy’s face. “Godfrey is just a hero, right?! I wouldn’t be able to…
“Godfrey is much stronger than you, my child,” the abbot smiled back, gently rubbing the boy’s wet hair. – And much hotter.
“Yes, even in winter he bathes every day…” Galen recalled with a sigh. And he never gets sick. When I become a monk, I will do the same! What if. ..?
“Don’t tempt fate,” Father Bennan said seriously. – It would be much better if Godfrey did not use his skills today … By the way, what is he doing there near the boat?
– He seems to have lost some of his things… Father, where is Alby?
– She and her brother Leary went to look for shelter for us. The abbot squinted at the remains of their frail craft. Apparently, what Godfrey was looking for now under him was extremely expensive for a seasoned novice. Brother Dallan was already losing strength and patience. — Godfrey! Can I help you?
“No, father, thank you…” came from inside the overturned boat. — Brother Dallan, I’m sorry. You can lower it, the hole is big enough, I’ll get out like that …
The giant unclenched his fingers in relief, and the wooden board poked into the sand. A novice’s head appeared from the hole:
– This is now only for firewood. True, raw. Brother, I found something of yours here. Take…
Godfrey handed the blind man his heavy staff, glancing at the iron-studded tip. The monk smiled gratefully:
– God bless you. I thought I would have to make a new one. Did you find everything?
– Yes. The lean novice leaned his hands on the edges of the hole, pulled himself up, and easily slipped out. “But my clothes seem to be gone. Yes, and God bless him, there is a spare! Well, I managed to put the shirt back on … Brr, well, the wind. Father Bennan, why don’t we ride out the storm somewhere dry?
“Brother Leary is looking for such a place right now,” the abbot replied. His attentive gaze was riveted on the novice who turned his back. Godfrey had nothing in his hands when he got out of the boat. But the shirt sticking to the body obligingly outlined the outlines of a wide leather belt on the hips. The abbot noticed him while still at sea, when the novice took off his robe … However, when he got out of the water, I remember that he was wearing only trousers. So Godfrey’s belt had also been left in the boat. And now he was looking for it. But that was not the point. The holy father had seen such belts before. During his military past.
Various people came to Skellig. And there were enough warriors among them. And a warrior, even renouncing everything worldly, rarely parted with his weapons – Father Bennan himself was an example of this. And the abbot could smell a man of his circle from a mile away: you will not soon forget training and skills. But for Godfrey… “If it weren’t for this belt, I wouldn’t have believed it in my life,” flashed through the head of the holy father. – And not a single scar on the body! It doesn’t happen like that…” Abbot thoughtfully began to wind the rosary around his wrist. Godfrey’s fighter or not, that’s another question, but there was a belt, and a very characteristic cut. Similar ones were worn by knife throwers. And, as a rule, they wore it without taking it off. “But he took it off before jumping into the water,” thought the abbe. – Sea water will not spoil the skin of such a dressing. But the iron … So, the belt was not empty. Godfrey was afraid of ruining the weapon.” Then his thoughts turned to his own sword hanging from a belt behind his back. Here he is just rinsing enough! And if it wasn’t fixed immediately… “Where are Leary and Alby? Is there really nowhere to hide here? .. And the rain intensified. We won’t be here for long.”
— Abbot, — as if in response to his mental call, the head of a peasant’s son appeared from behind a low hill, — we have found shelter! Hurry over here! It’s dry there, only very cold…
– That’s nothing, – the head of the community, perked up, smiled. “We’ll somehow be able to get fire… Brothers!” Follow Alby! Dallan, Philip, help me with these bales. No, Galen, I’ll carry the chest myself… Better take a sack of provisions.
“I’ll take it, holy father,” Godfrey’s voice sounded nearby. He approached so quietly that no one noticed him. – The bag is heavy, and the guy can barely stand on his feet anyway … Run to brother Leary, Galen, help him make a fire.
“Okay,” the boy shrugged his shoulders and obediently walked towards the hill, following his brothers.
Godfrey threw a sack over his shoulder, picked up another one from the ground and looked at the abbot:
— I can take your chest too, father.
“Thank you, my son,” he replied with restraint. “I can handle it myself… Come on, brothers!”
The monks, having taken on the bales, moved forward. The abbot was at the rear. His left hand was securely wrapped around the cherished chest hidden under his cloak, and his thoughts returned to Godfrey. And the look that the novice, in response to the refusal of help, cast on the head of the community. It seemed to be an ordinary, calm, unremarkable look … But Father Bennan was ready to swear on the Bible – understanding flashed in Godfrey’s eyes for a moment.
Nerys rolled head over heels off the narrow bunk and hit her shoulder painfully on the leg of a table bolted to the floor. She shook her head, chasing away the remnants of sleep, and gasped – the ship shook again. The boards crackled. An oil lantern under the ceiling swayed like crazy. What’s happening? She tried to get to her feet, but she couldn’t; the floor tilted again. There was a small rattle of bottles in the captain’s closet. From above came staccato cries and the clatter of feet. “Royal Squadron? the girl thought. “They still caught up with us?” Nerys pricked up her ears, but no matter how hard she tried, she didn’t hear the clash of swords. So, the admiral’s people had nothing to do with it … So what happened then?
The Albatross rolled onto the other side. The lady, who did not understand anything, gasped and, prudently abandoning attempts to rise, grabbed the table leg with both hands. At least he held on tight for now… The noise from upstairs drowned out Desmond Hunt’s roar:
“Charlie!” Sail! Sail, damn you!
— Remove the sails! — The hoarse bass of an old pirate. — Secure on deck! Thug, hold him, hold him!!
– I’m holding …
– Sam, Raven, help him! Jack, fly into the hold, there, go, already knee-deep. Hunt’s voice again. “You two are with him!” Are the others connected? Dick, check the lifelines!
— All right, Captain!
– Charlie, boats!
— Fixed, cap… Go to your places, you sons of bitches! Val is coming!
The ship went down somewhere. For a moment everything was silent, and then something hit the deck with force. Probably the same rampart… Neris knew little about marine terms. But even her modest knowledge was enough to understand that things were bad. Storm. And, probably, strong, since they were so alarmed up there … “Oh, my God! The girl bit her lip. – And this too! Misadventures are not enough for me…”
A stomping whirlwind swept past the cabin door, scolding everything. If Neris had been less frightened, she would have blushed from head to toe: the pirates were not shy in expressions. “What a terrible chatter! thought the girl, sliding her knees across the dirty floor. “But Captain Hunt is an experienced sailor. He, probably, is not the first time such alterations? He’ll get us out… Ai!” The ship, with a strained creaking of wooden joints, sharply leaned sideways again. The door of the cabinet on the wall creaked plaintively with a flimsy lock and flew off its hinges. Bottles, cards and a bunch of all sorts of small trash fell down. Almost getting hit on the forehead with a wooden bowl, the girl crawled under the protection of the heavy table top and pressed her cheek against its carved leg. “Storm is a common thing! she reassured herself. – Dad hit it many times … And nothing! Just think… Sekonung Asgeir told how they once ran into a rock, it was scary… And then what? Just a storm and…”
– Reefs!! howled over her head. “The reefs are right on course!”
“Cawed! .. – Neris died. – You should also remember about the demons of the sea, you fool! Ugh, what kind of language do I have…”
They ran upstairs and shouted. There was a monstrous uproar. Lady MacLyon, scolding herself to the fullest, drew her head into her shoulders and closed her eyes, clutching the table in a death grip. She had never been so scared in her life.
Desmond Hunt, standing on the bridge, peered ahead. The darkness was impenetrable. Black clouds hung over the sea, swelling more and more every minute. It seemed that just a little more – and the belly of a thunderstorm would hook on the bare mast, fall on it with all its exorbitant weight and break it like a dry torch …
– Reefs! someone yelled from the prow of the ship. “The reefs are right on course!”
“The devil and the underworld…” the captain whistled through his teeth. “That’s just the right time! .. Charlie!”
– Here, cap.
Ragged Ear climbed up to him and squinted, trying to make out at least something in the whirlwind of the storm. Apparently, he succeeded – the old pirate cursed.
— What, is everything so lousy? ..
— And there won’t be half a mile… — Charlie answered dully. – Tailwind. We Khan, cap.
– Speed?
— Under fifty… [Referring to a wind speed of fifty knots. Knot is a unit of speed equal to one nautical mile per hour.] And we are headed straight for the reef. The pirate grinned: “Do you remember your golden cup?” With patterns? .. So I stole it.
“And drank it,” Hunt nodded, not at all surprised. “But I didn’t know?” Only early on you betrayed yourself to me, Charlie! Open your eyes – the reef is not in a straight line. We are heading towards the edge… Let’s try to turn away. Right on board!
“We won’t make it in time,” the assistant waved him off.
Desmond silently turned the wheel. This was not the first storm in his life. And not the first reef. “But here, perhaps, you will have to tinker,” he forcedly admitted, having estimated in his mind the chances of the Albatross. They were fifty-fifty, and both figures are not in favor of the pirates. The stormy wind intensified. And even if you manage to turn away (which, alas, is unlikely, Charlie is right), just one 60-odd gust of knots will break the mast and lay the ship on its side in a matter of seconds … The captain wrinkled his forehead, quickly turned back and abruptly threw:
– Charlie, don’t sleep! Rest in that world!
“It won’t be long now,” he laughed. – What are you pissed off about? While there is life there is hope?
— I don’t know about you, — Hunt let go of the steering wheel for a moment, and it spun in the opposite direction at breakneck speed, — and into the Singing Bushes [ Singing Bushes (from English. Fiddlers Green) — mythical land of abundance , a paradise for sailors who died at sea.] too early! Turn the head, cudgel! And watch the sea…
— Why? Charlie asked reasonably. But he turned around anyway.
“Let’s catch the wave, buddy,” Desmond explained with a mischievous smile. – And he will go out to saddle the one that is higher – you look, and we will slip through the reefs! Brute, is the sail tight?
— Yes, Captain! shouted from below.
— Put back! Raise on my command!
“Didn’t think of anything smarter?..” The old pirate shook his head. But his eyes gleamed merrily from under bushy brows.
— Do you have any other options, Charlie? Desmond chuckled. – Tighten the cable. Now it will be hot …
“I see without you,” the assistant muttered. He glanced sharply at the deck to see if everything was in place, and sat down on the wet boards, leaning back against the railing at the captain’s bridge. He tied himself to them across the waist, to be sure, and screwed up his left eye:
— It’s coming, pretty girl… Hold the helm, cap! I’ll give the go-ahead when it’s time…
— Team, get ready! boomed the captain from the bridge. – Those who are in the hold, up! Check cables and boats!
– Here is your tinned throat, cap …
Your school, Charlie.
– Duc … And then! – The pirate grinned from ear to ear and gripped the railing more tightly: – One… Two… Three…
– May good luck be with us! breathed Desmond Hunt like a spell, clutching the steering wheel. Behind the Albatross, a huge shadow was rapidly creeping up. Time seemed to freeze, stop, hung in the air like a trembling grain of an hourglass. ..
— Full speed ahead! Charlie roared hoarsely. – Let’s go!..
– Raise the sails! – commandingly spread over the deck. – Heading straight for the reef! ..
The ship shook. He jumped on the waves, almost burying his nose in the water … And took off on a foamy crest straight to the skies swollen with inky darkness.
And then fell down. Against the reef.
…Dark. It’s completely dark, you can’t even see your own hands. And also – cold and … wet. Neris, with difficulty coming to her senses, stirred and tried to sit up. It didn’t work out – the stiff body did not obey, and something bulky and heavy pressed down on top of it … It seems like a table. Or, more accurately, its cover. “How did it make me so upset?” thought the lady. Tensing herself, she pushed the countertop off her, groaned from a sudden sharp pain in her elbow, and still took a vertical position. I listened. The waves still beat against the sides of the Albatross with the same frenzy, the wind howled, the cladding wood cracked menacingly, but something was definitely not right! Too quiet, she suddenly realized. And it’s true – no one else was stomping, shouting, giving orders upstairs … And she herself was sitting on the floor of the captain’s cabin waist-deep in water. Very cold water. Which tartly smelled of salt and the sea. And which slowly but surely arrived … “The ship is sinking! Lightning flashed through her mind. “It’s sinking, and the pirates abandoned it a long time ago — what a silence! .. And me… and no one even remembered me?!”
Fear gave strength: forgetting about the bruises and bruises, the lady jumped to her feet, even managing not to fall down a second time, and, feeling her way to the locked door, began to pound on it with her fists:
— Captain Hunt! Captain Hunt, can you hear me?! Can anyone hear me?! Hey! Is there someone alive?!
Nobody answered her. And that made it even scarier. With trembling fingers, Nerys found the latch of the deadbolt and yanked it back toward her. Of course, the door didn’t budge. After all, the captain, I remember, locked her outside . .. Lord, is it really the end? ..
– Let me out! she cried out in a fit of panic, scratching the cabin door with her nails. — Let me out, please! Captain Hunt!.. You are a nobleman! Noble person! You couldn’t leave me here for certain death! I ask you to! Let me out of here-ah-ah! I don’t want to die, I don’t want, I don’t want-oo-oo…
Having already thrown his right leg over the side of the Albatross, Desmond Hunt froze and, raising his head, listened. Loud cries and desperate calls for help could be heard from below. Damn! .. I completely forgot about her!
— Cap, why are you up?! Charlie called from below. He, swaying, stood in a boat filled to the brim with angry as hell pirates. The boat jumped on the waves, hit against the side of the ship and strove to shatter into chips. — Cap! Deaf, anchor to you in …
– Wait, Charlie! The commander cursed and climbed back. – Wait for me here, I’m going to…
– Are you crazy?! the assistant yelled, raising his head. – Where?! This damn vessel is about to sink! Together with you, donkey!..
— I went for a woman, — angrily uttered a skinny wiry pirate. – I’m telling you exactly!
— What does he need her for? Save your own skins,” spat another. – And without that, the boat will now burst at the seams, we are packed like herring in a barrel.
— Only she was missing here! someone chimed in. And he added: “If it weren’t for her, we would already be at home.” No admiral for you, no storm for you, no bottom for you on the reef…
“Cut the end, Charlie,” the skinny one said after thinking. – From that woman, I see, you won’t take anything, since the admiral didn’t want to ransom her! And as for the captain – if she is more important to him than us, then let her stay with her! ..
– Talk to me again! Charlie snapped. – Are you completely pissed off? So I’ll quickly put something in order! You say there’s not enough room in the boat, huh, Raven?.. So now I’ll give you a kick in the ass – and it will be freer . ..
– Don’t growl, Charlie, – the skinny robber calmly replied. – Think about it. We won’t offend. We’ll find a new ship, but as for the captain… so at least you’re not a captain? BUT? All of our people will be only too happy!..
— Shut your mouth! Ragged Ear furrowed his eyebrows. And he looked around at everyone sitting in the boat with a gloomy look: – And pray that I would not blurt out to the cap about this conversation drunk … Sit! And then you all fly overboard!
— You, Charlie, do not start, — the same pirate said insinuatingly. “There are two dozen of us here, and you are one. And you can’t see your captain… Maybe he decided to stay, didn’t he, Charlie? Don’t worry, Dickie, you know me! Ruban off the shoulder – and all the chatter!
The skinny one chuckled and fell silent. The old pirate nodded in satisfaction and lifted his head up again:
“Cap!” Damn you! .. Why are you stuck there … Oh, you bastard!
The last words were addressed to the same disgustingly grinning skinny Dicky. They were accompanied by a loud splash. And, already floundering in the salty waves, Charlie realized that it was not worth turning his back on his comrades, thirsting for a change of power.
– You will remember me, bitch tail! – spitting in different directions, he yelled. “Just let me get out… Thug, why did you hatch the Zenki?! Hand!
“You can handle it yourself,” said the skinny one. – Or the captain will help … when he is done with the woman. And we, sorry, it’s time. Jack, cut the end! Until we went to the bottom with this damn vessel.
“Beasts…” Charlie yelled, looking after the departing boat. – That is OK! There will be a chance, we get even. And if it doesn’t fall out, they’ll hang you on the yardarm, Dicky, they’ll hang you up like a pretty little one! .. Because you aim for the captain, you slop scum, and the captain of you is like a projectile from shit …
– Charlie? – Desmond Hunt leaned over the side of the Albatross. A weeping girlish face peeked out from behind his right shoulder. – What kind of bathing is this? .. Where is the boat ?!
“Where, where…” grumbled the old pirate, “guess! Why the hell did you not leave this fool in the village? What rolled out his eyes? It’s his own fault … Throw the rope, he stuck to the board! I’ll die! ..
“You won’t make it in time…” suddenly came from behind Charlie. The voice was truly eerie – gurgling, as if inanimate. The robber shuddered and turned his head sharply:
— And who is this talker here… Ahhh, the devil take me!
From the deck of the Albatross came a heart-rending female squeal. The waves around the sinking ship, dancing against the wind, curled into a funnel. And over the heads of the dead people, someone’s glossy carcass shot up. Her ugly head rested on the sky, ripping up thunderclouds with a short horn. A single hand with long, three human height claws grabbed the Albatross by the mast and lifted it above the water. And the only eye, filled with blood, stared down at the frozen sailors .
