Altador | it’s… What is Altadore?

Altadore (eng. Altadore ) is a residential neighborhood in the southwestern sector of Calgary (Alberta). Located between 14th Street and the Crawchild Highway, south of South Calgary. To the southeast, it is bordered by the Elbow River and River Park .

In the neighborhood, along 33rd and 34th SW avenues, is the Marda Loop recovery zone.

Altadore was founded in 1945 and is represented on the Calgary City Council by District 11 Alderman Brian Pincott. A plan for redevelopment and new development has been developed in the microdistrict.

The meaning of the word “Altadore” is unclear. It may come from the name of a mansion in County Wicklow (Ireland) or may be a hybrid word, the first part of which comes either from “Alta” – the old abbreviation of the name of the province of Alberta – or from “alta” – high (the microdistrict is located on a hill), – and the second part – from “dore”, a variant of the French “d’or” – golden.
