1. We Start With the Child

The heart of Children’s Leadership Academy is to develop and inspire children to be believers, achievers, and the future leaders of tomorrow. At CLA, Children learn and develop in these core areas; Gross motor skills, Fine motor skills, Cognitive awareness, Social/Emotional, Leadership and Physical strengths. At CLA, our unique approach to child development creates an environment that is fun, flexible, and structured to meet the individual needs of each child. We provide a simple, but meaningful context for what children learn in each of the core areas. Weekly themes on values, character qualities, community, and family provide the reinforcing connections to our curriculum and developmental objectives. CLA also strives toward an educational atmosphere that emphasizes the development of self-confidence, self-direction, positive self-esteem, enthusiasm for learning, and self-initiated exploration.

2. We Partner With Families

Children’s Leadership Academy was founded on the concept of parents, teachers, and students all working together to create a learning environment that fosters a spirit of community. Parents are encouraged to participate in classroom activities. There are many and various ways in which we encourage parents to become involved in the school such as a classroom helper. We also believe that communicating with parents is very important. Parent-teacher conferences, daily reports, and communication folders are just a few of the many ways that we inform parents about the school and their child. Involving parents is important to us here at CLA.

3. Unique Philosophy & Programs

Research has proven that the years before a child reaches kindergarten are among the most critical in their life to influence learning and can have a significant impact on a child’s growth and maturation process. According to the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), “early experiences have profound effects on development and learning. ” During these years, we strive to provide a strong foundation in both the educational and social emotional domains that provide children with the preparation they need to enter kindergarten ready for success. We also strive to instill the values, character qualities, and skill sets that will inspire them to be the leaders of tomorrow. Through our unique curriculum, our ABCs of Leadership, and our theme based learning, children receive a quality education that equips and inspires. Our programs build self-confidence and provide the direction children need to be achievers and life long learners.

4. Large Learning Center

Our academy is approximately 11,000 square feet with three large playgrounds, eight large classrooms, a library, a computer lab, a cafeteria, and two additional play areas. Our classrooms are abundantly supplied with developmentally appropriate resources and learning areas that support dramatic play, math, creative arts, language arts, social studies, science, music, technology, and more.

5. Friendly & Secure Learning Environment

We believe children develop best in a safe, friendly environment. To create a safe and secure environment, we secure all areas of the building, controlling access by requiring software utilization for the sign in/out process and door entry keypad. We also use video cameras to monitor classrooms and outside on the playground. Our teachers are trained in CPR and first aid. Throughout the organization and the center, we require compliance with all state and local childcare compliance laws. Our staff go through extensive training and background checks as well as must possess certain childcare certifications to work for Children’s Leadership Academy. We only use the safest equipment and materials to ensure the safety of your child at all times.

6. Extended Care Programs

Besides the core subjects taught within the regular classroom, CLA believes that extra curricular classes (art, music, physical education, and foreign language) are equally important to produce well-rounded children. CLA prides itself on the uniqueness of its classes. After School teachers plan with the individual classroom teachers to fit their curriculum into the current theme. This provides incentive, real-world learning, continuity, and cross-learning experiences.

7. We Use a Positive Approach to Discipline

Children’s Leadership Academy will ensure the safety of all, to create an atmosphere that builds respect for others, and to teach responsibility for one’s own actions, the school uses a positive approach to discipline. When necessary, the children are redirected to more appropriate activities. Students are included in the process of establishing limits and expectations, as well as the consequences for inappropriate behavior. Teachers take care to set classroom limits and expectations that are appropriate for young children.

Toddlers

Being a toddler is a  very unique experience. They are learning how to become independent and explore new things. Our  toddler curriculum is geared toward your child having the freedom to experience while exploring and developing.

This is their introduction to what learning is all about. We encourage the inquisitive  possibilities of the adventure that they are about to partake in.

Two Year olds

For our 2’s we provide consistent daily schedules with an emphasis on social and self-help skills. Our teachers utilize planned activities each day and encourage free choice among various centers within the classroom. 2 year olds develop quickly and are eager for knowledge. They are trying to understand the world around them and how it works. Our program provides structure and guidance for children to learn how to share, get along with others and perform classroom tasks. Language and vocabulary skills are strengthened while listening to stories, singing songs and playing games. Art projects and gross motor skill activities help to develop movement and sensory skills.

Children gain self confidence as they grow independently and explore the learning centers equipped with activities that support dramatic play, math, creative arts, language arts, social studies, science, blocks and books. These activities are the foundation for  a lifetime love of learning.

Primary 3’s- (3-4 yr olds)

Our curriculum in this classroom is the stepping stone toward Pre-K. The approach will have your child learning while having fun. In this classroom they will learn all their “School Readiness” skills. We will teach them character building activities such as sharing, caring, compassion and self help.

In this age group the children are eager to learn new things and we are prepared to go above and beyond the typical learning experience. We will focus on all the basic lessons in math, language arts, dramatic play, science, social studies, art and independent studies.

Pre-Kindergartens (4-5 yr olds

We provide expansive learning environments for our four and five year olds both indoors and out. Children learn to be independent thinkers, achievers, and leaders. Our lesson plans are developed using a balanced and unique curriculum, which enhances character building, leadership and kindergarten readiness skills.

There are many independent, as well as group activities to enjoy throughout the day. These activities allow the children to enjoy learning and to share what they have learned with others while doing so. Writing in journals, learning to tell time, and learning to tie their shoes, are just a few things they may come home bragging about.

After School Program- (6-12 yrs old)

This program is full of exciting activities. We will provide homework help, tutoring and an array of learning tools. The children have full access to the computer lab and library.

Your child will have time to unwind from their long day at school but still learn while having fun. They will be taught core values such as responsibility, caring, sharing, working together as a team etc. There is a wealth of knowledge in this classroom to be discovered.

Each day you will receive a written daily report, specific to your child that contains information on his or her food intake, daily activities, naps and general behavior.  We provide three meals daily; a nutritious morning and afternoon snack and a hot, well-balanced lunch. They enjoy two scheduled outside times daily, weather permitting. We provide each child with a rest mat and fresh linens for a two-hour daily rest time after lunch. Many mothers and fathers continue to work after the birth of a child, so there are special childcare facilities in the canton of Aargau. Most of them are paid.

Kindergartens and nurseries

Kindergartens and nurseries (Kinderkrippen) look after children throughout the day. Most of the options are designed for children from 3 months to school age. However, some kindergartens also offer babysitting for school-aged children (before and after school, as well as during lunch). Parents need to enroll their children in advance, as there is almost always a long queue for kindergartens. Prices in different kindergartens vary, the cost is partially covered by the community where you live. Kindergartens or communities where you live can ask about the cost and possibility of enrollment.

Playgroups

Before reaching school age, many children attend a playgroup (Spielgruppe). This is a place where children ages 3 and up meet without their parents to play, make crafts, etc. with a qualified caregiver. Attendance at the playgroup is voluntary, but especially for children who do not speak German at home, it is a good opportunity to get familiar with the German language. This makes it easier to start school. There are playgroups in almost every community. Additional information can be obtained from the community where you live.

After school they are helped with their homework. These services are paid for by the parents; the cost often depends on their income. The child can take advantage of this offer one or more times a week.
