5 military boarding schools in Maryland 2022

Like every other state in the US, Maryland also has military boarding schools for children and youth. The military academies in Maryland consist of high schools and institutions of higher education offering ROTC programs.

Maryland is a state in the USA, the birthplace of the national anthem. The state also has military academies and other traditional institutions offering ROTC programs. There are many excellent military boarding schools in Maryland where parents can send their child.

All these military academies in Maryland have been listed and discussed in this blog post to give you a complete understanding of what they are, how they work and how you can apply for admission. You will also find out which of these academies is right for your child.

Military academies offer many benefits that regular high schools cannot offer. Well, first of all, some of them are public, which makes them free to visit. Everything from food, tuition, bedding and other fees is free. In addition, these schools are boarding schools that allow students to fully immerse themselves in their academic life.

In addition to focusing on student achievement, these schools also develop and instill student leadership and self-discipline. They also have professional skills and are prepared for college so that they can follow and succeed in their desired path.

Graduation from military school leaves the student with a set of essential skills that he can use in real life, and, most importantly, students become respectable and law-abiding citizens. Graduates of military high schools are easily accepted into colleges because they easily check the box next to their preferred college.

How much does military school in Maryland cost?

Generally, attendance at public chartered military schools does not require an attendance fee, while attending private ones can be expensive. This also applies to military academies in Maryland. At the college level, that is, when you are in college and enroll in an ROTC program, you can study for free (scholarship) or receive reduced tuition fees. But in this case, you will be enlisted in the army immediately after graduation.

Do I have to become a soldier if I attend a military boarding school in Maryland?

When you graduate from a military boarding school in Maryland, which is usually a high school, you can pursue any career that interests you, including applying to college. You don’t have to become a soldier because you graduated from a military boarding school.

What is the age requirement for military school in Maryland?

Maryland Military Boarding Schools accept students in grades K-12, but only grades 8 or 9-12 grades – depending on the school – can be boarders, while the rest must be day students.

For military programs offered at the college, such as ROTC, the applicant must be at least 17 years of age to apply.

    Maryland Military Residential Schools

    Maryland Military Residential Schools:

    • Loyola University AROTC
    • Bowie State University AROTC
    • US Naval Academy
    • John College High School
    • Morgan State University AROTC

    1.

    Loyola University AROTC

Loyola University is a private Jesuit college located in Baltimore, Maryland and offers a wide range of degree programs in a variety of disciplines. The facility houses an integrated arm of the Army Reserve Training Corps (AROTC), known as the Greyhound Battalion, which prepares college graduates-turned-cadets for careers in military leadership.

To join AROTC at Loyola University, you will need to apply for admission to a school in one of their academic programs to earn a bachelor’s or master’s degree. Once you have been offered admission, you then submit another statement of interest to join the AROTC division. You must submit two separate applications, one for admission to the university and the other for admission to the corps.

You must also meet both requirements to be accepted. As a cadet, you must achieve fitness goals, participate in leadership courses and various field and training exercises. When you complete your academic program, you will be drafted into the army as a second lieutenant and use your profession to serve the nation.

    2. Bowie State University AROTC

Bowie State University is one of the oldest universities in the United States, founded in 1865, which is also the date of its founding. It is a historically black public university located in Prince George’s County, Maryland. Now, like Loyola University, Bowie State University also offers the Army Reserve Officer Training (AROTC) program.

The unit here is the Bulldog Battalion, which also caters not only to BSU students, but also students from the University of Maryland, Prince George Community College, and Anna Arundel Community College. The AROTC program trains students in management and leadership skills to help them succeed in whatever career they may pursue.

AROTC also provides other learning opportunities including rappelling, land navigation, marksmanship, swimming, color protection and nursing. In addition, those who meet certain criteria can receive a scholarship that can cover two to four years of study. The scholarship will pay for tuition and fees, room and board, books, and a monthly stipend of $300 to $500 per month.

    3. United States Naval Academy

The United States Naval Academy is a federal service academy located in Annapolis, Maryland and founded in 1845. The academy is the second oldest of the five US service academies and was established to train commissioning officers primarily in the US Navy and Marine Corps.

By attending this academy, you subscribe to either the US Navy or the US Marine Corps. Students of the Naval Academy, who are called midshipmen, undergo a four-year training. This training focuses on moral education, academic and vocational education and physical training.

The academy has academic departments which are divided into three departments: Engineering and Weapons or Department I, Mathematics and Science or Department II, and Humanities and Social Sciences or Department III. Graduates are instilled with respect, responsibility, and integrity, combined with rigorous year-round physical training and a challenging curriculum to produce capable U. S. Navy leaders.

    4. St. John’s College High School

Founded in 1851, this is a Catholic high school that houses the oldest junior reserve officer training corps in the United States. The school is coeducational, independent and college prep in the Lassalle tradition.

The JROTC program instills in boys and girls who choose to join the program leadership qualities, cadet culture, character, health and wellness. Participation in the program does not mean that students become military men and can do whatever they want after school. However, the program gives them a clear advantage when applying to a service academy and also for college scholarships.

    5. Morgan State University AROTC

Morgan State University or MSU is a public research university in Baltimore, Maryland, founded in 1867. It offers a wide range of academic programs in various disciplines leading to bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees. MSU is home to a division of the Reserve Officers Training Corps (AROTC) known as the Bear Battalion.

The program, like typical college ROTC programs, allows students to earn degrees of their choice, as well as prepare to become officers in the US Army. When choosing an academic program, you should choose something that can be used in the military, such as a career in healthcare or engineering.

You will need to apply for a program at a university, be accepted, and then submit a separate application for the AROTC program. When you are accepted into a program, it becomes part of your curriculum to help you become a leader and make your college experience even richer. Upon completion of both programs, you become a US Army officer.

As you may have noticed, there aren’t many military boarding schools in Maryland. These are mainly ROTC programs offered by colleges and universities for high school graduates who want to enter higher education and at the same time pursue a career in the military service.
