7 Small-Scale Daycares & Preschools in Dedham, MA
Your family is unique to you, but some of your questions might not be. 😉 Here’s what most parents want to know when starting out.
What is NeighborSchools?
Hey there, nice to meet you 👋 We’re a new-ish startup that helps new-ish parents find daycare.
We know how hard finding good child care can be – especially for first-time parents. But really good care is what gives you the peace of mind to go back to work and feel confident that your child is getting the stimulation, socialization, and support they need to learn and grow.
So we created NeighborSchools to make this piece of parenthood a whole lot easier. We say “easier” because, let’s be honest, it’s still a big thing to figure out, but working together we can help you find some good options, understand the whole process, and choose a program you’ll feel really good about.
How’s it work?
Most first-time parents don’t know exactly what they’re looking for, so we created a simple survey that will ask you questions about your lifestyle, your daily routines, and your preferences for child care. We’ll then share 3 personalized recommendations that we think might be a good fit. We’ll also give you a timeline that maps out when we would suggest you start touring programs, choose a daycare, and pay a deposit to secure a spot. Your timeline is based on when you want to start care – so you set the pace, and you decide when you’ve found the right match.
Is there a cost?
Nope. Our daycare recommendation service is free for parents. The other half of our business is helping these small-scale daycares with software and services that handle all their administrative tasks, like online contracting, payment processing, and licensing requirements. Before NeighborSchools, services like these were only designed for large corporate child care centers, and part of our mission is to level the playing field for small, independent child care programs. That’s why we picked the name NeighborSchools – we’re all about making child care more personal, more human, and more equitable for the incredible individuals who do this work and care for our children.
How do I know if I’m ready to take the survey?
Generally, if you’re here, you’re ready. The survey lets us give you 3 recommendations to consider, but it’ll also help you better understand what factors to consider, and what questions to be asking right now. It’s simple things like where you live, your child’s date of birth, when you want to start care, and if you have any preferences around program philosophy or language of instruction. If you’re planning 6+ months ahead, it’s a great way to get started, and if you’re hoping to start daycare in the next 2-4 months, it’s definitely time to get started. Click here to start the survey.
How do I know if a daycare has openings?
Each program has a limited number of spots for each age range, so we need to know your schedule and child’s age before we can share availability. The survey covers these basics, as well as factors like drop-off and pick-up times to make sure that recommended programs fit your daily routine. Once we know your child’s age and schedule we can share rates and costs as well.
More questions? Text or email – we’re here to help.
We’re online Monday – Friday from 8am to 6pm Eastern.

Words cannot express what Vana has meant to our family. My twins have been with her for FOUR years! We started when they were six months, and every moment with her has been special. She goes out of her way tocommunicate with you every day, and provides pictures to help make the day go by faster for needy moms like me! She is very creative and always has new activities, games, crafts and fun ways to teach the children. Her home is immaculate and feels safe, and her cooking is authentic and amazing. All factors that were on the top of my list when I was looking for a daycare. But above all, my children adore her, and the peace of mind she has given my husband and me while we are at work is invaluable. The loving care and kindness Vana’s Daycare offers every day is rare and unmatched. Vana loves our children as her own and they have loved every minute they’ve spent with her. Two of hardest milestones I’ve had as a mother are handing my kids to Vana at six months old after all they knew was me, and taking them back at 4 years old to start preschool. I look back and realize how easy she made it for me, how easy she is to love, and that placing them in her care was hands down the best decision I have made for them yet….

My name is Eugenia Brown and I’m a caregiver and preschool teacher. I have many years of experience working with infants through 5 years and older children. I run a small in-home daycare. I have my CDA (ChildDevelopment Associate) working with preschoolers.
Your child will be around other children and still receive one on one attention. I use curriculum from Sonlight, Math U See, DK workbooks and Montessori for home schooling, and supplement with arts and crafts. Daily activities include:
Sensory Activities (art and science experiences)
Language Activities (books, songs, pretend play, etc. )
Gross Motor Activities (large muscle experiences)
Fine Motor Activities (small muscle experiences)
Outdoor play ( weather permitting)
I strongly believe children learn better with hands-on activities; I also adjust activities to go with each child’s developmental level. I love teaching children and doing crafts with them. There is no greater blessing than children and I am proud and thankful for the opportunity to teach them and care for them.
I provide breakfast, lunch, and snacks. I use organic 2% milk, whole milk or water. All meals are home cooked and are natural or organic.
A little about me, I was born and raised in eastern Europe. I speak 5 languages (Russian, Romanian, Moldavian, Bulgarian, and English). I am married and have two children and two dogs. My son loves playing football and lacrosse. My daughter loves playing lacrosse. My favorite thing to do is watching my kids games and spending time outdoors with my family.

Benefits of the Montessori method
Respect for the child
The child is at the center of the learning process in kindergarten*. The teacher teaches everyone differently. This is an assistant who pays attention to each child individually, a co-researcher who helps children discover the world at its best.
Interest
Children learn simply by observing, smelling, tasting, touching, exploring. They test how different things behave in different circumstances and gain experience.
The scientific method
The work of a private kindergarten teacher* relies on scientific knowledge and observations about the child, for example, in what sensitive period he is. These are periods of easy assimilation of specific skills. The teacher determines this and directs the child’s attention to the necessary exercises and materials.
Prepared environment
Private Montessori Kindergarten* has everything you need for the education and development of a child aged 3-6: mathematics, writing and reading, logic and sensory skills, exercises for skills in practical life, movement area, etc. At each stage of development, the learning environment in kindergarten* should be different. The child independently decides what and how much time he wants to do.
Self-education
The teacher does not limit the interests of children. Independent exploration of the world creates a sense of freedom in children and forms the ability to set their own goals and achieve them.

what parents say
The child goes to kindergarten with great pleasure. And after the garden is in a wonderful, high spirits. Very pleasant, friendly atmosphere and feedback from the staff. Free seminars are regularly held for parents, where teachers share their knowledge, experience and observations. During walks, children sometimes go for a walk with caregivers to the “source” in Sarzhin Yar, which, in my opinion, expands the internal boundaries and adds responsibility and independence to the child. I want to be a kid again and live my childhood one more time with “Montessori & Me” (formerly “Fufuka”)

Our collective opinion with my three boys is that there is simply no other such cool club with an atmosphere of absolute mutual understanding in the city)) Interesting ideas and no less interesting spiritual embodiment of them)) Thank you!!! Olesya, Sergey, Igor, Egor and Artem

Hello! I want to share my impressions of the wonderful kindergarten “Montessori & Me” (formerly “Fufuka”). Entering here, you immediately find yourself in a cozy homely atmosphere. Educators communicate with children calmly, looking into their eyes, without raising their voices, as with good friends. They can support in a difficult moment – and take it in their arms, hug. And such contact is very important for maintaining a harmonious atmosphere in the team. It’s nice to have kids of all ages in the group. It turns out a real team, where the elders can inspire the kids to play, help them cope with difficult tasks. And younger children do not have to ask for help from educators – they can easily turn to their more experienced friends. In my opinion, an important plus is the location of Fufuki next to Sarzhin Yar. Sometimes the guys walk in this picturesque place. And this, you see, is much more interesting than boring sites behind a fence).

Somehow I got so wrapped up that I didn’t write my review. Wrong. I am correcting myself! I see the changes with my own eyes, and I and my child are happy with these changes. Sincere, family atmosphere, everything is done with love and participation of everyone! I never cease to be amazed at the ideas that have already been implemented, and how many more there are!!! Relationships between children of different ages are wonderful! Mugs are wonderful! math, drawing – Super! Special thanks to Natasha for every day spent with the children! Only a person who sincerely loves children will earn unconditional authority among children! My son speaks of Natasha with great respect, admiration and love))) You guys are the best!!! Thank you!!

And the kindergarten is beautiful! Thanks to the founders and educators 🙂 for an individual approach to everyone, even to a parent)), for a calm home environment, for ideas and their implementation. My family has the best memories. And we hope there will be new ones. Let there be Fufuka 😉

Irina Murach: about Iyengar yoga in Kamensk, studying in India and “singing bowls”
Irina Murach works at the Lotus Yoga Center – she is an Iyengar yoga instructor. But before Irina found her calling in this direction, she had to go through a very long path of ups and downs. First, in her life there was rhythmic gymnastics, then athletics … And then, like a bolt from the blue, the verdict of doctors forbidding Irina from playing sports. However, after a long pause, she decided to return to her previous physical activity in order to improve her health and get back in shape. And her choice fell on yoga.
In the interview she told us about her teachers, about her studies in India, about meeting the founders of Iyengar yoga, about kinesiology, meditations and singing bowls.
– Tell us about yourself and your childhood? What kind of child were you? What determined your choice of profession?
— I was born in Kamensk-Uralsky and I love my city very much. Wherever I go on vacation, I always return home with joy, because my family, friends and favorite work are here.
The choice of profession was predetermined by the love for sports, which my father, Alexander Konstantinovich Ignatiev, instilled in me. Dad was not a professional athlete, but when he served in the army (three years in the Kremlin), he competed for his unit in cross-country skiing, in weightlifting competitions, and in artistic gymnastics competitions. Returning from the army to his native Kamensk, for some time, on a voluntary basis, he led a gymnastics circle for children (in the third school). Dad carried the love of sports throughout his life. Thanks to him! He went skiing with me, and went to the skating rink, and at city relay races, dad and mom always cheered for me and our school team.
I have never done needlework, like many girls, I preferred sports out of all possible hobbies. At first, of course, it was unconscious. Even in kindergarten, she followed her older sister to the rhythmic gymnastics section. I especially liked that instead of waking hours, I could leave the kindergarten with my girlfriends for training at the Sports Palace, which was very close. And then we returned, and they asked us about what we did today in training. And we were happy to show the teachers and children what we had learned in class.
– Tell us about your first coach.
– Thanks to my first rhythmic gymnastics coach – Valentina Ivanovna Astakhova, who helped little clumsy girls turn into graceful girls. Not all young athletes were equally talented and hardworking, but Valentina Ivanovna treated everyone warmly: she inspired, joked, helped, and always made comments in a very kind way. Thanks to rhythmic gymnastics, I fell in love with bodywork and classical music. In the distant seventies of the last century, classes were held to the accompaniment of a musical worker.
– But have you decided to leave this sport? Why?
– There were both victories and defeats. Over the years, the programs became more and more difficult, so rhythmic gymnastics required complete dedication. And, apparently, I was not ready for this, and I have never been an outstanding athlete. So I decided to change the sport.
– And what kind of sport has replaced gymnastics?
– Once my friend’s mother, watching us play, how we run in the yard, invited me to athletics. Thanks to my athletics coach, Olga Petrovna Razmakhnina, who not only instilled diligence, patience, discipline and courage in us, but also taught us to speak correctly and behave in society. Olga Petrovna trained her pupils, took her to competitions and training camps, organized summer sports camps, took us on hikes, and taught us to be friends.
– How did athletics go?
— Unfortunately, at the age of sixteen, doctors told me that sport was not for me. Active training had to be stopped. I didn’t want to part with sports at all, so I played in the basketball team in my senior year of school, and then played for my university.
— By the way, where did you continue your studies after high school? Did you enter any university?
– I had a happy childhood! I was very lucky with teachers at school and in sports, which is probably why I also decided to become a teacher and entered the Sverdlovsk State Pedagogical Institute. I was afraid to enter the sports faculty, because I knew that I would not pass the swimming standard, so I became a teacher of the Russian language and literature. I probably betrayed my dream, because I didn’t stay at school for a long time.
– When did you start yoga? And why there?
— I came to yoga at the age of forty, in 2007, when I was surprised to find that nothing was left of my sports form. Strength, agility, speed of movement – everything went like water into sand. The sedentary lifestyle has taken its toll. I was breathing heavily, going up to my fourth floor and realizing that I was definitely not good at aerobics. Yoga was already popular at that time. My friends started attending classes at Sinara SOK and I thought about why I still sit and dream about yoga, and someone has long been fulfilling my dream! So I came for my friends to my first lesson with Elena Nikolaevna Trunina. She became my first teacher, thanks to her I fell in love with yoga.
— What attracted you to yoga in the first place?
— Most of all I liked that you don’t have to compete and compete with anyone, like in sports, you don’t have to compare yourself with anyone, that there are no standards that you need to fulfill, but there is work with yourself and on yourself.
— What were your next steps in the yoga world?
— Then I had a meeting with Tatyana Viktorovna Krasulina — our well-known speed skating coach in the city, who was fond of yoga, and, having retired, began to teach yoga at the request of her students. Thanks to Tatyana Viktorovna, I realized that in yoga, not some goal is important, but the path itself. There were many older women in her group, they all performed difficult poses, but at the same time they were cheerful and cheerful. And I thought that I also want to continue to be cheerful, strong and cheerful even at seventy years old.
– You have come across amazing teachers and mentors in your life. How did you discover Iyengar yoga?
— Oh, yes, I am extremely lucky with teachers! And it is worth noting that another wonderful person and yoga teacher played a huge role in my life – this is Tatyana Olegovna Mushkatova. She introduced me to Iyengar yoga. And I am immensely grateful to her for her knowledge, skills, inspiration and support in mastering a new profession. Thanks to Tatyana Olegovna, I got the opportunity to study with the best teachers of Iyengar yoga in our country – teachers from Yekaterinburg, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yaroslavl, Novosibirsk. And not only from Russia, but also from other countries of the world – America, Germany, Italy. Now anyone can study with the best teachers in the world online. And then, in 2011, Tatyana Olegovna literally brought me by the hand to a seminar with Olga Zvontsova and, after that meeting, I became stronger in my desire to attend a three-year teacher’s course, so that later I could teach people yoga, thanks to which, to change my state and life for the better. Tatyana Olegovna cultivated in us not only physical strength, but also self-control, as well as self-confidence.
— How did the Lotos Yoga Center appear?
— In 2016, my friends, colleagues and like-minded people, with the support of the city and the Entrepreneurship Support Fund, opened our Lotos Yoga Center.
In November 2022, our Center turned six years old. I am very grateful to Evgenia Vishnyakova, who prepared a business plan, thought through and calculated the activities of our Center. Many thanks also to Natalya Demina, who defended this business project and received a grant to open a business.
— What is the class schedule and student population?
— Now our Center conducts classes in the morning, afternoon and evening — for children, teenagers, adults and older people.
– What advice would you give to anyone who wants to take up yoga?
— “The young, the old, the aged, even the sick and decrepit, all will achieve perfection in yoga through constant practice. Success will come to those who practice, and not those who do not. Success in yoga cannot be achieved simply by reading sacred texts. It cannot be achieved either by wearing the clothes of a yogi or sannyas (hermit), or by talking about him. Only in constant practice lies the secret of success. Verily, there is no doubt about it. ” This is a quote from Hatha Yoga Pradipika verses 64-66
– Tell us about the features of your classes.
— Regardless of age and physical form, anyone can come to our classes. And in order to have a positive effect from this, it is necessary to practice constantly and faithfully. For an ordinary person, twice a week is enough. The lesson for children is held in the form of a game and lasts an hour. The usual practice is one and a half hours long and includes asanas (or postures), pranayama (conscious breathing), and at the end, meditation or complete relaxation, usually in parts of the body. And more detailed information about the instructors of the Lotos Yoga Center and the schedule of classes can be found on our page on the VKontakte social network.
– Share your yoga achievements.
– Now I am fifty-five years old and I feel much better than when I was forty – this is my main achievement.
— Tell us the essence of your work.
— There are no super-complex poses in my arsenal, now such a direction as “yoga therapy” is closer to me. I want my classes to be interesting, but safe, so during the lesson I always tell: how to perform the pose correctly, what therapeutic effect it has and, if any, contraindications.
– Are you taking any additional yoga workshops or advanced training courses?
– One of the translations of the word yoga is magic. And to add magic to my classes in April 2021, I took a course at the International School of Singing Bowls and Gongs “SOUNDYOGA” by Ivan Konovalov. After that, she began to conduct group and individual sound meditations for deeper relaxation and calming of the mind.
– Tell us about singing bowls. What it is?
— A singing bowl is a reedless bell, an oriental musical and ritual instrument, currently used worldwide for physiotherapy massage, sound therapy (music therapy), meditation and in addition to various areas and methods of healing and natural healing methods by specialists in various fields . So I got a new hobby in my life: vibrational medicine, sound therapy and kinesiology.
— Can you tell me a little more about kinesiology?
— Vibrational kinesiology is a developing scientific and practical field that strives for a holistic understanding of human health.
Scientists proved long ago that we are all composed of vibrating particles — pulsating energies. Our physical body, which seems so dense, is actually energy vibrating at a certain frequency, this is clearly visible with the help of super-powerful microscopes.
A healthy body vibrates at a higher frequency than a diseased one. When a person falls ill, a part of him begins to vibrate at lower frequencies.
That is, in order to heal the body, we need, firstly, to raise the level of vibrations, first in a sore spot, and secondly, to raise the level of vibrations in the whole body. This can be done on your own through yoga, meditation, exercise, proper nutrition, through the practice of gratitude and forgiveness, communication with your beloved pets and people who inspire you, as well as spiritual guides.
And if you can’t cope on your own, then you can contact a Specialist in Vibrational Kinesiology of Psychosomatic States and voice your problem or request. In turn, the Kinesiologist of the Vibrational Cryptograms modality, using precise muscle testing, will detect, by “asking” your body, and not your mind, that area of the body in which there really are changes in the vibrational field, find out the psychological cause of the imbalance and select the necessary sound techniques (tuning forks, Tibetan cups), color corrections both on the physical body and on the “subtle” bodies called the aura.
Techniques of vibrational balance of muscles, acupuncture points, major and minor chakras, as well as individually selected exercises and their combinations are used.
– What are the benefits of such practices?
– Firstly, it makes it possible to restore the balance of pure energy at all levels of the body. Secondly, it removes the emotional causes of stress, which underlie psychosomatic diseases. Thirdly, it opens up a different vision of current life situations and new ways to solve them.
This approach is oriented towards the healing of man on all his planes. It is safe and environmentally friendly. Correction of psychosomatic states through the restoration of the vibrational balance of the physical and “subtle” bodies of a person. Thus, by changing the state of a person, one can significantly change the quality of his life.
– Is this activity accredited? Who is your teacher?
– I thank my teacher – Elena Albertovna Vyatchinova – a rehabilitation doctor, clinical psychologist and kinesiologist, member of the board of directors of the Australian Institute of Kinesiology. Vibrational Cryptograms is the first modality of a Russian author that has received international recognition. The Vibrational Cryptograms course is accredited by the Australian Association of Kinesiology AIK LTD.
And, of course, many thanks to Natalya Podosenina from Yekaterinburg, who became my guide to the world of vibrational kinesiology.
– If it’s not a secret, share your plans for the future.
— Future plans include deepening knowledge of human anatomy, yoga philosophy, and teaching methods. Already in November, she began an in-depth study of yoga according to the Iyengar method. A two-year course was organized in Yekaterinburg, aimed at improving the accuracy and depth of teaching, under the guidance of senior teachers of the Olga Ilyinskaya Studio Yoga Academy from Moscow.
– Do you have an idol in the yoga world?
— With all due respect to senior teachers, my idol is our Teacher BKS Iyengar, who devoted his whole life to yoga and changed it for the better, thanks to yoga. “I myself went through a difficult path, starting to study, being physically handicapped. As time passed, my efforts began to bear the first fruits. I literally escaped from darkness to light, from the embrace of a deadly disease to health, from complete ignorance to immersion in a whole ocean of knowledge only through an unquenchable zeal to succeed in the science and art of yoga practice (sadhana). And since this method suited me, it will suit you too … ”These are the words of BKS Iyengar from his book“ Light of Life: Yoga ”. I was not lucky enough to study with Guruji, although I had the opportunity. But apparently I wasn’t ready.
– Tell us about your studies in India.
— In January 2018, as part of the first Russian intensive, I was trained in India in the city of Pune at the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute. I managed to touch the original source in the face of his daughter Gita Iyengar and his granddaughter Abejata Iyengar. I would like to express my gratitude to my family, and first of all to my husband, who gave me this trip and the opportunity to study with the followers of the founder of the method.
— Who inspires you to do this job ?
– Senior Teachers who generously share their knowledge, as well as students. When you see how quickly a person who could not do anything just yesterday is progressing in practice, it is very joyful and very inspiring.
— Where can our readers find you? How to contact you?
– You can find us on the VKontakte social network, the yoga center has its own page: https://vk.com/centr_yogi_lotos I also have my own account: https://vk.com/id51690515
— Are you passionate about anything besides yoga?
– My last passion and vital necessity is studying at the SMM Academy “Social Networks for a Million”. This is necessary because it is important for me to promote yoga on social media. As long as I do it the best I can. For some reason, there is not enough time for more serious training, filming and promotion. And yet, it’s not in vain, because new people are coming.
– If it’s not a secret, share your plans for the future.
– In the near future, we plan to promote pair yoga. There are already couples in which only representatives of the female half come to classes. But it is worth noting that men are also not indifferent – they are interested in yoga with their halves, they visit my page on the Internet.
