It’s true that the IB curriculum is challenging but (& this is unusual) the entire school follow it, not just an elite few, so the level of IB expertise, resource and support is unparalleled. There are myths about the language programs, you really don’t need to be a linguist! Ours had no 2nd language when they joined, one finished with a bilingual IB Diploma, another took standard level…AIS prepared our kids well for universities in the US and abroad & the school gave us all a really interesting, supportive community. Population

Atlanta itself is home to 498,044 people, and with the agglomeration, the population is about 5 million people. It includes 140 cities and is the fastest growing metropolitan area in the United States.

Historically, the majority of the population (52.29%) is African American, 40.08% White American, 4.03% Hispanic, 2.27% two or more races, 1.05% other races , Native Americans – 0.26%, Native Hawaiians and Islanders – 0.03%. Brief history

Atlanta is a relatively young city, founded in 1837 as the terminus of the Western & Atlantic Railroad. Initially, it was called Marthasville, in honor of the governor’s daughter. Informally, the city was called Terminus (eng. “terminus” – the final destination), because of the location of the railway. But soon the main name became – Atlanta, as a feminitive from the name of the railway.

The most significant event in its history was the battle for Atlanta. In 1864, the army of the North entered the city under the leadership of General Sherman, who, during the retreat, completely burned the settlement, leaving only hospitals and churches. This event gave impetus to the subsequent re-election of Abraham Lincoln for a second presidential term. Margaret Mitchell described this period in detail in Gone with the Wind, where the main characters had to evacuate the city on the day of its siege.

In the 1920s, Atlanta became the place where country music took off, with the rise of recording studios and the distribution of records throughout the country.

At the beginning of the last century, Atlanta was stirred up by racial unrest. On September 22, 1906, a group of African Americans attacked four white women, which caused a sharp reaction from law enforcement and the white part of the population. As a result, several dozen blacks were killed, and the neighborhoods where they lived were destroyed. This was the forerunner of the emergence of racial segregation. Later, members of the Ku Klux Klan appeared in the city, who further aggravated the situation.

In the 1960s, an active struggle for the civil rights of African Americans began in Atlanta, one of the leaders of which was the Atlantean Martin Luther King. In 1996, the capital of Georgia hosted the XXVI Summer Olympic Games. During the competition, an explosion occurred in the Olympic Park, which killed two and injured 111 people. This incident overshadowed the whole positive effect of the games.

My son (5 years old) went to coach Roman Krylov for individual lessons. Prior to that, several times for two or three months I went to the children’s pool in a private kindergarten, but there he did not get along with the coach, and the result was zero. I was afraid of water, I was afraid to go into the water more than knee-deep! When I came to Roman, I did not really believe in the result, since the pool here is deep. The novel turned out to be very open, sociable, my son immediately liked it. And five minutes later I can already see how they entered the pool. When a month later they sent me a video of how the child swims in the pool by himself, without any safety equipment, and the coach is not next to him in the water, but walks along the side and gives instructions to his son, I was shocked!!! In my life I would not have thought that such a result with my so fearful child is possible! Thank you very much Roman!
