The central New Year tree in Velikiye Luki has again become a subject of discontent this year. But this time, the New Year tree is being discussed not only by the townspeople, but also by residents of the neighboring Kunyinsky district. They assure: the Christmas tree for Velikiye Luki was not brought from the forest. She was cut down right in the village of Zhizhitsa, near the house of one of the residents, where she “pleased people for many years.” “MK in Pskov” learned about the “conflict of interest.”

Living tree or artificial? Which one to put at home? Hundreds of thousands of people across the country answer this question on the eve of the New Year. In Velikie Luki, the “Christmas tree issue” is a settled matter. For many years in a row, a living tree has been installed in the center of the city on Lovat. Although some great-earners in social networks insist that, from the point of view of ecology and respect for nature, it would be more humane to acquire artificial ones.

Be that as it may, traditionally, a few weeks before the New Year, a living Christmas tree for Velikiye Luki is specially looked for in neighboring areas, evaluated, selected … Then they are cut down and brought to the main square. This is where the fun begins.

Dozens of kilometers on a winter road for a fluffy coniferous beauty do not pass without a trace. By the time the Christmas tree takes a vertical position near the stele “City of Military Glory” on Lenin Square, some of the needles crumble, the branches break and the beauty goes bald literally before our eyes.

This is exactly what happened last year. Seeing the city’s main Christmas tree, a 70-year-old 30-meter tree that arrived from the Kunyinsky district, the townspeople began to resent. Broken branches with needles that fell off during transportation did not, perhaps, inspire anyone. In social networks, the Christmas tree was called nothing more than “ shabby ” and “ plucked chicken ”.

However, the administration assured that by the holidays the Christmas tree would definitely be “healed” and, as a result, they would make a real beauty out of it.

New Year – a new Christmas tree

However, even this indignation pales before the dissatisfaction of the inhabitants of one of the villages in the Kunyinsky district. It was there, right in the village, that they cut down a spruce for Velikiye Luki. Before transportation, the tree was really beautiful.

FIR IN NUMBERS

The spruce brought to Velikie Luki from the Kunyinsky region is about 80 years old. The height of the New Year tree is 25 meters, and the span of the branches reaches more than 6 meters.

To avoid mechanical damage to spruce branches during transportation, as well as the threat of wire breakage, damage to road signs and vehicles standing on the sides of the road, Zelenkhoz employees transporting the tree dismantle individual branches, which are then returned during installation, – reported by representatives of the authorities of the municipality.

The indignation of the inhabitants of the Kunying village can be understood: the beautiful spruce, which turned into Quasimodo during transportation, is really a pity. But the tree grew on private property. The owner agreed. No lawlessness. As for the appearance of the Christmas tree… The city administration says that the installation and preparation of the Christmas tree for decoration will be completed by Wednesday, December 21st.
