In order to legalize the funds that the Surkis withdrew from Privatbank to six of their offshore companies, the brothers attracted the auditing company Alvarez & Marsal. It turned out that the latter is accused of facilitating a corporate takeover of the international transport company Fesco, as reported by TASS.

On October 20, Igor Surkis’s lawyer, Igor Alekseev, said that the American auditors of Alvarez & Marsal allegedly checked and ascertained the “purity” of the Surkis’ deposits in the bank accounts of the family’s six offshore companies. According to the conclusion voiced by the lawyer, the deposits of the Surkis allegedly “had a legal origin and were not connected with the schemes for withdrawing loan funds from PrivatBank.”

“American auditors from Alvarez & Marsal actually analyzed each financial transaction by molecules. The specialists were provided with information not only about where these funds come from, but also about where and for what these funds were spent,” the lawyer of the oligarchs convinced .

This conclusion of Alvarez & Marsal contradicts the report of other international auditors – Kroll. By the efforts of the latter, by the way, the United States managed to figure out Saddam Hussein’s financing schemes.

Kroll, commissioned by the National Bank of Ukraine, investigated schemes for theft of funds from Privatbank over a period of 10 years.

“The results of the Kroll investigation, which they did on the order of the NBU in 2018, are striking: fraud in the bank began decades ago, and more than $ 5.5 billion was withdrawn from the bank during this time,” said First Deputy Head of the NBU Ekaterina Rozhkov.

According to Kroll, at least $150 million was withdrawn from Privat through six offshore companies of the Surkis, as reported by the American edition of Chicago morning star.

How much the services of Alvarez & Marsal cost the Surkis has not yet been disclosed. But from open sources it became known about public accusations against this company.

In particular, Alvarez & Marsal was engaged to provide consulting services to Fesco. Today, one of its largest shareholders, Ziyavudin Magomedov, has been arrested on charges of organizing a criminal community and embezzlement.
