  • After School offices have moved to the former Bay Minette Intermediate office building (the only building left of BMIS school buildings). The address: 600 Blackburn Avenue, Bay Minette, AL 36507; Phone: 251-580-0678; Fax: 251-580-2969.

Child-friendly offices where parents and children are always close by.

Kid-friendly or child-friendly offices are not common, but very interesting and worth knowing about.

What is a modern office for modern young people we imagine: no offices, recreation areas, freedom of movement and communication. The motto of these new office spaces is “freedom and creativity”. But the reality is that young people grow up, create families, and most become parents. Some companies have chosen to take this simple fact into account and not make a problem out of it. nine0005 What companies understand that a happy working parent is a successful employee? And, most importantly, what exactly does the employer do for such an employee?

Clif Bar is an American manufacturer of organic food and beverages. The company’s flagship product is the Clif Bar. The company uses only organic ingredients. The company is environmentally friendly in everything. For example, the headquarters of the company EmergyTech, has a LEED platinum status – an environmental rating for a building that was built using the latest “green” technologies. Or, to reduce CO2 emissions and save fuel for its employees, Clif Bar began spending $6,500 each in 2007 to buy hybrid and eco-diesel vehicles. For 10 years, the company’s employees have been allocated an additional $500 for the purchase of a bicycle and are given bonuses of $9.60 for a trip to work by public transport or on foot. In addition, ClifBar was offering $1,000 towards green improvements to employees’ homes, such as installing solar panels and wind turbines. Employees of the company can freely visit the corporate gym, climbing wall, yoga cents. The company has been ranked among the top best places to work by Outside magazine multiple times.

For the company’s employees who are parents, the day care center for children under 5 years old was created on the basis of the office. nine0007 Groups for children are divided by age, they have time for classes and free time.

The children’s center has miniature treadmills, stationary bikes and an outdoor playground. In the music room, children learn to play instruments. A survey of Clif employees whose children attend the center found that 98% of respondents are more likely to stay with the company because of the center.

Outdoor Patagonia didn’t reinvent the wheel either, they just opened a day care center and an after-school group in the office. This children’s center is visited by about 80 children – employees of the company. nine0006 Patagonia Children’s Center employs 28 people and has a $1 million annual maintenance budget. The company estimates that it recovers 91 percent of these expenses thanks to tax credits and high employee retention.
Parents of Patagonia can dine with their children and drop in whenever they want. The company also allows parents to sit in class, although many prefer to use a separate room to interact with their child.
Breastfeeding mothers who go to work can bring their child with them, as well as a family member or guardian from the company’s children’s center – all of which the company will pay for. The company’s buses take children from local schools to the after-school care center – in our opinion, to the “afterschool group”. nine0003

Burns & McDonnell – An engineering and construction company has opened a 2,000 sqm child care facility that can accommodate up to 144 children. The cost of the project was 2 million US dollars.

MacKids Academy is equipped with science, technology and math classrooms. The event rooms include a children’s play area and a miniature rock climbing wall.

PicMonkey is a company that makes famous photo editors. nine0007 More than half of PicMonkey’s employees have children, which is why the company has a “child friendly” policy. Parents can bring their children to the office if necessary and leave early for children’s activities. Jonathan Spasato, co-founder and CEO of PicMonkey (who is a dad himself), was looking for ways to make the office more family-friendly. “I started thinking a lot about why we do what we do: why do we go to work?” he says in an interview. “We go to work to provide better opportunities for the next generation and create a better world for them,” he says. “What is the point of doing all this at the expense of your own family?” nine0007
PicMonkey offers “what you can’t get from an HR handbook – a supportive family culture.” Jonathan Spasato considers it normal to leave work for a children’s piano concert or a football game. It is especially recommended to stay at home to take care of a sick child.

Wildbit, a software development company, has only 22 employees, 17 of whom have children . Often children play together right in the office. The company’s new expanded workspace in Philadelphia was designed with both staff and their children in mind. When Wildbit started 15 years ago, its creator was not yet a mother. Now, with two children, ages 8 and 11, she says, “We have strict 40-hour weeks” and employees don’t work nights or weekends. No one is watching the clock if someone has to leave in the middle of the day to take their child to class. Parents can bring their children to the office. The point is that each of the 22 people has a separate office, which makes life much easier: children can be in the same room as their working parents.
