Early Head Start (EHS) is a federally funded early childhood development program aimed to assist at risk, low-income families. Children and families enrolled in the center-based program option receive comprehensive child development services in a center-based setting, supplemented with home visits by the child’s teacher and other EHS staff. The home-based program option offers children and families support through weekly home visits and bi-monthly group socialization experiences. EHS also serves children through locally designed family child care options, in which certified child care providers care for children in their homes. For more information, visit the Head Start website .

In small class settings, girls in Early Childhood explore new ideas as they rotate through learning centers that integrate different aspects of the curriculum and develop thinking and motor skills. The centers also foster independence and time management skills that serve the girls well in later grades.

Following the Reggio Emilia style, our expert teachers engage the girls through hands-on projects and real life experiences that are relevant to them.

Elizabeth Jordan, Early Childhood Head

“We ask questions to find what interests the girls and then try to plan our classroom environment to foster those interests. We know that creates a more meaningful learning experience.”

A secluded oasis of learning

Tucked away in the northwest corner of Hutchison’s lush campus is the Abston Early Childhood Center, a welcoming place that houses Little Hive (2 year olds), Pre-Kindergarten (3 year olds), and Junior Kindergarten (4 year olds). The quiet, secluded EC playground is nearby while frequent jaunts to other corners of Hutchison’s 52-acres are fun learning expeditions and a chance to explore and feel independent in a secure setting.

In early literacy, math, and science, girls connect ideas through play and exploration before progressing to journal writing and understanding math in the context of everyday life. Other curricular experiences include weekly visits to the farm, Spanish, art, technology, movement, and music.

Curriculum

List of 4 items.

  • Literacy

Our phonics program includes both listening and hands-on activities to engage the girls. All PK and JK girls begin journal writing in August. Journaling is done in small groups, giving the girls the attention they need to become successful writers. Girls have many other opportunities to express themselves through print.

The girls also enjoy sending messages to one another in the message center. They create cards and letters for their friends and when they are finished they put them in their friends’ mailboxes. Through this experience, the girls learn to write their names and the names of everyone in their class and get to practice writing using prior knowledge of letters and sounds. The girls also practice writing in center activities and project work.

Guided reading groups begin in JK. Through working in small groups, the teachers know when their girls are ready to read. Guided reading is differentiated so each girl is taught on her level. Shared reading is taught using big books.

  • Math

The Little Hive and PK girls learn math skills through calendar time, songs, morning meeting, and center activities. In the block center, for example, girls are exposed to shapes, counting, more, less, taller than, shorter than, and measurement. University of Chicago’s Everyday Mathematics is taught in JK. This program is full of hands-on activities and games that reinforce: number and numeration, operations and computations, data and chance, measurement and reference frames, geometry, patterns, functions, and algebra.

  • Farm

The Hutchison farm is an extension of the Early Childhood curriculum. Beginning with the two-year-olds in Little Hive, girls visit the farm on a weekly basis. The farm director, an educator with over ten years of environmental and farm garden experience, collaborates regularly with the classroom teachers to create synergy whenever possible. For example, counting or measuring the various vegetables harvested on the farm is a memorable way to hone early math skills.

The Early Childhood farm curriculum creates an early appreciation for science and environmental issues. These concepts create the foundation for understanding the more complex topics introduced in Lower School and beyond.

  • Spanish, Movement, and Music

Early childhood girls participate in Spanish, Creative Movement, and Music. Essential developmental skills are enhanced through songs and rhymes. They teach concepts, enhance vocabulary, develop motor skills, and encourage social skills. Dance begins in JK, building an awareness of the movement of the body, and its potential for creativity. The classroom teachers plan with the extra-curricular teachers so they can reinforce what is taught in class.

Two Year Olds Toddler Preschool

Our Day Early Learning program for two-year-olds provides fun learning experiences that encourage your older toddler to explore their environment and interact with their peers and teachers.

Curriculum for Two-Year-Olds

All Day Early Learning toddler classrooms utilize The Creative Curriculum, a research-based early child care and education curriculum. At this age, your child is learning at a rapid rate, and as they grow and develop, the teacher adapts the curriculum, as well as the environment to meet both your child’s needs as well as their interests. Each classroom has a lesson plan created weekly, with activities individualized to the specific needs of each child in the classroom. Each activity on the lesson plan is purposeful and intentionally planned based on the teachers’ observations of each child in the classroom.

  • Language
  • Math
  • Science
  • Creative Arts
  • Social/Emotional
  • Physical

Language

Toddlers are always absorbing language, which is why a classroom rich in language is important.

To help develop language and literacy skills, teachers:

  • Describe what they are doing as well as what the child is doing, so that children will hear more language and connect words to actions.
  • Create a print-rich classroom environment with labeled materials to allow children to begin to understand that print conveys meaning.
  • Read aloud multiple times a day, as well as allow independent exploration of books.
  • Ask questions about books, and encourage interaction during reading.
  • Allow children opportunities to tell a story.
  • Sing songs/rhymes daily.
  • Encourage pretend play and participation with other children.
  • Allow opportunities to experiment with writing materials, and valuing scribbles.
  • Encourage children to dictate a story or description of what they are creating.

Math

Math is more than counting and recognizing numbers – teachers incorporate math into everyday activities.

To introduce early math concepts, teachers:

  • Use math words such as heavy and light, big and small, long and short, and more or less to help children begin to understand math concepts.
  • Provide opportunities to count while touching a variety of objects. For example, “How many cows do we have in the block area?”
  • Provide opportunities to explain if something is more or less, first or last. For example, “Is that more or less than the number of sheep we have in the block area?”
  • Provide opportunities to complete simple patterning activities with materials like lacing beads or pop beads.
  • Allow independent exploration of puzzles and sorting materials.
  • Allow measurement using materials in the classrooms. For example, “How many blocks does it take to match how long _____is?”
  • Encourage persistence even when children get frustrated.

Science

Young children are natural scientists who explore their world whenever the opportunity arises.

Teacher guidance and structure expands their curiosity and activities into something more scientific, to practice science. As children investigate, they acquire knowledge that explains the world around them in a process known as scientific inquiry. To introduce science concepts, teachers:

  • Provide opportunities to explore a variety of materials and tools in a sensory table, and ask questions that encourage children to predict what will happen if ____.
  • Provide opportunities to use active exploration to solve a problem and discuss if the solution was successful.
  • Provide opportunities to explore light and shadows.
  • Provide opportunities to observe and describe weather and seasonal changes.
  • Introduce activities and conversations that help children name and describe body parts.

Creative Arts

We include creative arts in our programming to provide a range of activities for children to express themselves.

Creative arts engage children’s minds, bodies, and senses. The arts invite children to listen to, observe, discuss, move, and imagine. To encourage creative arts exploration, teachers:

  • Offer a variety of recorded music to listen and move freely to.
  • Allow opportunities to explore a variety of musical instruments independently.
  • Allow ongoing exploration of a wide variety of age-appropriate art materials and tools including crayons, markers, paint, glue, play dough, etc.
  • Offer opportunities to participate in pretend or imaginative play in the dramatic play area, as well as with puppets and other people or animal figures.

Social/Emotional

Social emotional skills are essential in school.

Self-regulation and conflict resolution skills lead to a positive sense of self and makes it easier for children to build relationships with others. To develop strong social-emotional skills, teachers:

  • Model empathy and encourage children to imitate comforting behaviors.
  • Model impulse control, and validate children’s emotions, as well as model alternative reactions that will allow children to self-soothe in the future.
  • Provide children with the words to express both positive or negative emotions.
  • Allow children opportunities to demonstrate independence and do some self-care routines themselves.
  • Provide a consistent daily schedule and routine.
  • Model conflict resolution, and provide children with words to use instead of physical actions.

Physical

Large muscle development is important at this age, to practice skills and to lay the foundation for an active, healthy lifestyle.

Small muscle development is important as well, to develop hand-eye coordination and to ensure their hand muscles are strong as they begin to write. To boost physical growth, teachers:

  • Encourage children to use spoons or forks to feed themselves instead of fingers.
  • Offer opportunities to participate in physical play both indoors on climbers or tunnels, and outdoors on playground equipment.
  • Support children to dress or undress themselves, both when needed with their own clothes, as well as in the dramatic play center.
  • Introduce different writing materials like crayons or markers for children to practice making marks on paper.

GET STARTED

Two-Year-Old Learning Environments

Children spend most of the day in our learning centers, which are stations set up in each classroom. In centers, children choose activities from purposely-planned play experiences. Teachers intentionally create environments and provide appropriate learning materials to allow your child to explore and learn on their own, as well as provide support in learning new skills. In our two-year-old classrooms you will see several different learning centers such as art, science, dramatic play, library, blocks, puzzles and more.

Your Toddler’s Teachers

At Day Early Learning, we believe that the foundation to a lifelong love of learning for a child begins with a nurturing relationship with their teachers. Toddler teachers are trained in responsive caregiving. That means they work to build a trusting relationship with each child, provide individualized care to each child, and develop partnerships with families. All toddlers experience a responsive, sensitive caregiving environment.

Qualifications & Education

Day Early Learning teachers are education professionals with either a bachelor’s or associates degree in early childhood education or have or are working towards the Child Development Associate (CDA) credential. Because lifelong learning is central to our work, teachers continue their education through regular trainings. Additionally,  Day Early Learning Quality Coaches work with each teacher in individual classrooms to enhance teaching skills. All teachers undergo a screening and background check prior to employment.

Assessing Toddler Development

At Day Early Learning, we believe in the importance of regularly assessing each child’s growth and development in order to tailor our lessons and activities to the needs of each individual child. All Day Early Learning centers use several methods to assess each child’s growth and development including weekly observations, an annual Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ) and the ISTAR-KR assessment.

Summer school – 2022

ENTRY TO LSH

I am a winner/winner of the Olympiad in ecology/nanotechnology/robotics, can I be invited to the Summer School?
If the Olympiad is included in the list of the RSOS, then write to the mail [email protected]. The LS Directorate separately considers participation in areas related to core subjects (mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, computer science).

How can I prepare for the Olympiads at the entrance examinations in August?
For preparation you can use variants of the All-Siberian Olympiad.

Where will the entrance examinations take place?
Upon personal registration in July, you will be informed of the schedule of entrance examinations. Half an hour before the start of the test, you need to go to the educational building of the SENC NSU (Lyapunova St. , 3), where you will be guided to the venue.

How can I find out where the entrance Olympiads will take place?
If you are an auditor, you need to come to the educational building of the SENC NSU (Lyapunova str., 3) half an hour before the start of the Olympiad, where you will be directed to the venue.

DOCUMENTS

A copy of SNILS is listed in the list of required documents for registration in the LSH, but I don’t have it yet.
SNILS will be required upon admission to the SESC NSU, so please decide this issue in advance.

Do I need the original certificate?
The original is not needed, the copy must be stamped by the school.

I don’t plan to apply to the SESC NSU, do I need to collect a full package of documents (for example, certificate F086-U, a copy of the certificate, an application to the SESC NSU, etc.)?
We are putting together a complete package. There are situations when students change their decision to enter during the Summer School. If the decision not to enter does not change, the student writes a refusal to participate in the rating and can then pick up a package of these documents.

REGISTRATION

Is it possible to meet me at the airport/railway station?
Unfortunately, we do not have such an opportunity. You can see how to get to us by public transport or by taxi.

What if I arrive late at night/early in the morning?
On July 30 and 31, registration of the Summer School is open around the clock in the educational building of the Special Educational and Scientific Center of NSU (Lyapunova, 3). Come to the specified address, you will be met by the registrar on duty, take a package of documents and take you to the hostel.

If I arrive before August 1, do I have to pay for the extra days?
If you arrive on July 30, 31 by invitation, then after registration you will immediately be settled in a hostel and you do not need to pay extra for living in a hostel from the moment you register until the start of the LS. However, you will need to arrange your own meals before the start of the Summer School on August 1st. An earlier arrival is not recommended and must be agreed with the LS management by mail [email protected].
If you came to the entrance examinations, then before the moment of enrollment in the LSH you will need to take care of the place of residence yourself. It is usually possible to check into a NSU student dormitory (the amount of payment is determined by the campus management).

Can I come on August 1st? And later?
You will have time for registration if you arrive before 12.00 on 1 August. Later dates of arrival must be agreed with the Summer School Administration on an individual basis.

Can I register myself or do I need the presence of my parents (legal representatives)?
You can go through the entire registration procedure yourself. Make sure you have the complete package of documents signed by the parent (legal representative) in the right places.

If I live nearby, can I check in on July 30th and go home before August 1st?
Due to the difficult epidemiological situation, after registration, students must remain on the territory of the Summer School.

EDUCATION

Is there a division into specializations for 8th grade students?
All eighth-graders study in the general stream. The profile can be chosen upon admission to the Special Educational and Scientific Center of Novosibirsk State University,

What textbooks, add. materials needed for training?
You do not need to bring anything with you. At the beginning of the Summer School, each participant is given a collection with the necessary information, tasks, examples of final tests.

Do I need a laptop for studying?
No laptop required for training. The Summer School is not responsible for the safety of valuable equipment.

Are there holidays in LS? Is it possible to go home during them?
Training takes place from 4 to 16 August and provides for two days off (most often, days off at LS do not coincide with the standard days off of the working week). For these days, a special program has been prepared, including excursions, school-wide events, popular science lectures. We do not recommend skipping these days.

ACCOMMODATION

Can I choose a room to stay?
A separate block is allocated for each class of the LS, so you can only live in the same room with classmates. Thus, you can choose a room only among those that are reserved for your class.

Is it possible to leave the territory of the LS during free time?
You can leave the territory only within the limits indicated on the card in agreement with the teacher, if there is a “I allow” mark in the application for enrollment in the LSH. Read more in the Regulations on the Summer School.

Can my parents stay for a few days during my Summer School?
Accommodation for parents and other relatives is not provided.

Tickets home taken on August 24 at 22:00, until what time can you stay in the territory?
The last day of the Summer School is August 23rd. Participants who did not enter or did not plan to enter the SESC NSU must pack their belongings and leave the room on the morning of August 24th.
It is possible to agree on temporary storage of things for this day, meals on this day are not provided. There is a student cafeteria next to the canteen of the Specialized Educational and Scientific Center of NSU, a cafe and a canteen of NSU are located within a 10-minute walk.
If a student has entered the NSU SESC, it is not recommended to leave before the start of the academic year, since educational intensives begin on August 25. If, nevertheless, departure is necessary, on August 24, in the afternoon, the student must move to the room where he will live throughout the school year, and stay there until the time of departure, warning the teacher about his departure.

REGISTER

How can I find out if there is an escort group from my area?
You can get this information from your local education department.

How is the registration and settlement procedure?
The registration and accommodation group for students of the Summer School works around the clock from 18:00 on July 29 to 14:00 on August 1 in the educational building of the Special Educational and Scientific Center of NSU at Lyapunova, 3. A package of documents is accepted from the student, he is registered in the database. Then the student is received by the teacher, who escorts the summer student to the hostel, shows the room, gives out bed linen, and conducts a brief briefing. If parents are present during registration and check-in, they can ask any questions that arise, as well as exchange telephone numbers with the teacher.

Do volunteers come to the opening of the LSH?
You can come to the opening, which will take place on August 1 at 10:00 in the House of Scientists of the SB RAS.

Education in the USA, study and study in the USA

Summer language courses in the USA allow children to relax, gain invaluable experience of living abroad, the experience of communicating with peers from around the world. The main thing is that children’s (teenager) language camps in the USA are an exciting way to gain new knowledge!

Skeptics say: Is it really possible to learn a language in 2-4 or 6 weeks?
We answer: is impossible to learn! However, it is possible to significantly INCREASE its level! But the most important thing (and this is noted by all teachers) is that such short programs create a conscious motivation for children to further study a foreign language, including at home, after returning from an educational trip to the USA!

Choose a language center on our website yourself (list of schools with their descriptions and prices below) or contact any office of Students International closest to you!

Summer academic camps – online preparation for studying at school and university in England and America

Moving to another country, studying in a foreign language, a new social circle, living away from parents and friends – admission to a foreign school and university is not connected not only great prospects and special expectations, but also new challenges. They told how to help a future student quickly and effectively prepare for study and life in a new place right now, what knowledge and skills need to be strengthened. We have selected excellent online programs to help applicants to boarding schools and universities in England and the USA.

What knowledge and skills are needed to study at school and university in England or the USA

Foreign educational institutions make serious demands on students not only in terms of knowledge and grades, but also in terms of soft skills. At the same time, the points that relate to soft skills are usually not written on the sites, but are implied “by default”. It is they who present special difficulties for Russians, since the domestic educational system does not pay special attention to their development.

Among the main requirements of British and American secondary schools and universities:

  • English;
  • knowledge of subjects, primarily mathematics, and also, depending on age and further plans for entering a university, sciences (physics, biology, chemistry, geography), economics, history, literature, other foreign languages, visual arts, music , dance;
  • structured writing skills, which are tested during language or general education exams (IELTS, TOEFL, SAT, ACT, UKISET), and also assessed by the admissions committee when studying motivational essays or personal statements;
  • educational (academic) skills – taking notes, compiling and maintaining presentations, independent study, time management, analysis of what has been heard and read, critical thinking, argumentation;
  • social skills – leadership, teamwork, the ability to conduct dialogue and participate in discussions, acceptance of cultural diversity and the characteristics of other cultures (students from all over the world study in schools, for comfortable communication it is extremely important to understand the restrictions and rules that carriers of other cultures adhere to) , the ability to understand and comply with school rules, the willingness to actively participate in the life of the school;
  • household skills.

Summer academic online programs that are personalized for the student will help to form the knowledge and skills necessary for admission and effectively prepare for studying abroad. Classes are held on popular online platforms – Skype, Zoom, FaceTime, Google Hangouts or others of the student’s choice.

Why book online courses through EduTravel?
Free full support from application to certificate. Only accredited language schools, a wide range of programs, convenient learning times, lessons with native speakers. The prices are comparable with the offers of Russian tutors.

To be honest, at first I was very worried that I would not fit into the class, that I would not be able to find friends, or that my English was very bad, but all these doubts disappeared as soon as I got to school and family. Life in the family is very comfortable, the owners of the house are very responsive.

In fact, I am extremely satisfied with the trip, 2 weeks is definitely not enough!
Oxford is a very cozy and nice city, full of students who, like all of us, came to study and get to know each other. This is very felt everywhere, everyone is very friendly and helpful, no one will leave you in trouble, everyone can help and answer any of your questions.

Studying at the school is a pleasure, teachers present information very clearly and understandably, they are ready to help you understand all your questions, take time for you and are constantly on the same wavelength with students.

I also attended evening classes that were held at the art campus. It is very interesting to communicate in a field that interests you in English, as you learn new terms and learn to communicate with people from a professional point of view. The art campus is very beautiful, it’s really nice to work there during classes, as the student is completely surrounded by creativity.

The trip to Oxford was a pleasure, I was very satisfied and ready to repeat it.

Ildus, good afternoon! I wanted to thank your company for their help and assistance in entering the university, in obtaining a scholarship and a visa. Thank you very much everything went great! Now we want the senior to enter the magistracy.

The second year of the pandemic continues, but the world does not stand still. Sergey not only entered a wonderful University with a Presidential Scholarship, but also received a long-awaited F-1 visa. We received a visa when the diplomats were recalled, when refusals sounded in the waiting room and the interview lasted far from a few minutes. But we were ready, we did not wait and decided to sign up for an interview among the first. Nursultan really gave us moments of happiness. The words of the officer: your visa is approved – after the refusals in the waiting room – sounded fantastic. I can say for sure that we were ready thanks to our wonderful Itec curators. It is impossible to overestimate the professionalism and contribution of the Itec team in the whole process: from deciding where to apply to obtaining a visa. We know exactly where the roads of those who want to study abroad lead – of course, at Itec. Sergey’s dream – to study in the USA – at the beginning seemed like a step into the unknown. Tours around the Universities were planned, but everything was canceled by the coronavirus, then – the unknown with the SAT, distance learning and a lot of nerves. But the work never stopped, Alice, Tom, Katerina, Andrey were always in touch, they supported us all the time. We could always get an answer to any question. Already in December, Sergey received 4 offers with a scholarship. These were incredible surprises. The first offer is tears of happiness. I had to choose. Sergey chose Drew University in Madison.
We are all looking forward to the end of August. And of course, we are sure that Itec will always be in touch.

Drew University

More than 25 years ago, our company’s mission was to open the world to every child. Today we offer the best summer schools and the most interesting training and recreation programs for children of all ages, we have direct contacts with prestigious educational institutions, when choosing a program we use an individual approach and focus on the needs of your child – we take into account his age, interests and character traits.

Some of the parents plan to send their children to study at a foreign secondary school in the future; – a child cannot imagine himself without sports – all this and much more your children will be able to get by spending their holidays abroad.

Holidays abroad is a very popular form of recreation and teaching a foreign language in the country where it is official.

Classes in the language centers are not like the usual lessons, it is interesting to learn a foreign language here. And even after a two-week program, having overcome the language barrier, the children themselves want to continue their studies at a more advanced level.

The indisputable advantage of choosing one of the foreign language schools is the variety of programs they offer. When compiling them, everything is taken into account: the age of the children, their interests, personal characteristics and, of course, their needs.

Holidays abroad give the student the opportunity to raise the level of language proficiency in a short time, as well as relax and get acquainted with the sights of the country. Summer holidays are especially in demand, as they are longer and provide an opportunity to relax and learn the language.

There are many different forms of holidays abroad: summer camps for schoolchildren, group tours, holidays with a foreign host family, holidays with parents and others.

The following foreign destinations are the most popular for holiday programs:

Europe:

  • Austria;
  • England (UK);
  • Belgium;
  • Germany;
  • Malta;
  • Ireland;
  • Spain;
  • Italy;
  • France;
  • Switzerland.

America:

  • USA;
  • Canada.

Worldwide:

  • New Zealand

Other countries with very strong positions in education, such as Australia, are less popular. This is due to the great distance and, accordingly, the high cost of the flight, which in the case of short and inexpensive foreign language courses can exceed the cost of education.

But no matter what country and program you choose, you can be sure that the children will return from the trip tanned and stronger, and they will bring with them not only new knowledge, but also the addresses of new friends.

USA
Do you want to go to high school abroad or continue after 9th grade??? Please!

* US High Schools as an example
The US secondary education system includes:

  • pre-schools (children aged 3-5)
  • primary school (children aged 6-13)
  • high school (14-16 years old)
  • high school, where students (17-18 years old) are preparing to enter the university.

Parents should be prepared for the fact that there are 5 main subjects studied at school (usually it is mathematics, computer science, history, natural science and, for example, theology), and the student chooses the rest.
Studying the same subject, students are divided into groups in the class depending on the individual abilities of the child.
The physical development of children in the American secondary school occupies a very important place.
The total duration of study in American schools is 12 years, and as a rule, students from 15-16 years old go to study in high schools in the USA, taking into account the fact that in America they study in senior high school – the so-called. High School – up to 18.5 years.
Most parents who decide to enroll their child in an American school expect their child to attend universities or colleges in the United States.
One of our partner schools in the USA is Oak Hill School. A private school with an excellent preparatory program that develops the creative and intellectual abilities of students from preschool to 12th grade.
The cost of education in such a school (including meals and accommodation in an American family) is $30,000 per year.
Education in public schools is possible from the age of 16 and the cost of such education is $15,000 per year (including meals and accommodation).

Directions

  • Application programming

As part of the direction of applied programming based on the results of the interview and test
    2 groups are formed.
The first group is waiting for intensive immersion in several areas:
mobile and web development, databases, networks, data analysis and application of algorithms in
applied tasks. All the necessary theory is given individually and directly in the process.
work on small projects: online games, chats, bots, web services.
More experienced participants will devote all the time to the implementation of the main project within the framework of the task from
partner company or based on your own idea. Each team on the first day will get acquainted with
your curator and will start working according to an individual plan for 2 weeks, episodically
distracted by special courses, master classes and the traditional hackathon at the equator.
In addition to daily work on projects under the guidance of curators, all participants are expected to
technological master classes, as well as seminars on the organization of work in the project, the formation
TK and research requirements from users, testing.

  • Robotics and Internet of Things

Participants in the field of robotics will be divided into 2
groups. Experienced guys will immediately take on projects based on their own or proposed
curators of ideas and will go through all stages – from the idea to the implementation and presentation of the results.
Designers are waiting for a full-fledged research work on a number of aspects of the popular “iron”
directions: from communication using BLE and Wi-Fi to solving problems of image recognition,
from organizing a pool of devices within the “Internet of Things” to developing APIs and protocols
pairing a variety of devices. Of course, it will not do without 3D design and
print. Working with engines, sensors and confident programming in C / C ++ are implied
    default.
Beginners in working with iron in the first days of school are waiting for an intensive introductory course to receive
direction-specific basic skills and knowledge: participants will work with Arduino, environment
development and various sensors, microcircuits and servomotors. After passing the KMB and
“firing line” – a test in basic knowledge – the group will join the project team and
will proceed to the implementation of its task in the form of a smart device.
Thus, by the end of the school, each participant in the direction will receive a result in the form
completed device, as well as a series of master classes on design work,
electronics, industrial design and 3D printing, the Internet of things, etc.

  • Data analysis and machine learning

In the basic track of the direction, participants will get acquainted with the main
machine learning algorithms for classification problems and
regression, methods of data preprocessing and evaluation of the quality of solutions. In the program: linear
models, KNN, decision tree, random forest, gradient boosting, ensembles, matrix
    decomposition
for dimensionality reduction, t-SNE, clustering algorithms, fully connected, convolutional, and
    recurrent neural networks.
Practical tasks include the application of learned
algorithms to real data and participation in machine learning competitions on Kaggle.
In the project track, participants implement their ideas or tasks from partner companies in
in a variety of areas: from recommender systems and NLP to computer vision and others
elements of artificial intelligence, as well as study narrower topics, for example,
reinforcement learning, generative adversarial networks, etc.

  • Bioinformatics and Computational Biology

Modern biology is far from the boring subject taught in schools today. With development
technologies, it became possible to determine the levels of activity of the genes of individual cells, to determine
spatial structure of proteins, read the activity of nerve cells – biologists have
a huge amount of data, which led to the rapid development of bioinformatics.
Bioinformatics is a science that searches for new
patterns in biological data using algorithmic and statistical methods and
designing decision-making systems based on them. During the school, participants will get to know
with the main bioinformatics tasks, gain experience in working with real data, study
results of modern research and their application in medicine, ecology and agriculture
economy. Those who wish will be able to implement their own project under the guidance of scientists from leading
    academic and industrial laboratories.
Anyone with experience in data analysis, application programming, or
algorithms and wants to go beyond endless websites, credit scoring and other
targeting – try yourself in an interdisciplinary field. It is not necessary to know biology, we
We will show and tell you everything. We also invite biologists who want to apply
programming and data analysis for their tasks.

  • Algorithms and Applications

The study of algorithms is the basis of training a Computer Science specialist.
The development of any modern system consists of two parts: business logic and
infrastructure code. Infrastructure code has to be written always and regardless of
conditional simplicity of the application, however, the implementation of the algorithmic part of the system requires more
    fundamental training.
On the other hand, knowledge of algorithms will definitely come in handy for performances at Olympiads in
programming and successful admission to the strongest technical universities, and for
successfully passing interviews in technology companies, and to develop
relevant thinking, which is useful in any field.
On the course, participants will get acquainted in detail with each of the above aspects:
theoretical knowledge for olympiads and practical applications of algorithms in the industry. We
let’s see how the same concepts are found in contests and in practical problems
    search for information, optimization.
The most experienced participants will be invited to implement a project with significant
algorithmic part and interesting cases of application to real life.

    highly loaded and reliable systems,
existing architectures and their implementations. Analysis and storage practices will be considered
    big data (HDFS, MapReduce, Spark)
and writing efficient scalable services (Docker, Kubernetes, concepts

Open distributed systems. How to make something that can live not only in a cozy cluster
your corporation, but also on the live internet?
And not tied to one server? How HTML got rid of tags that only work in one
browser? How HTTPS can even work securely
for billions of users with Windows XP? How did MQTT gain popularity? And how and why
actually decentralize things, without ICO and asbestos.
All this and less hackneyed cases, as well as the distribution of trust, topologies, sharing
data, the history of approaches to the issue from twenty years to three days ago, the beginnings
systems thinking and #wefixthenet – waiting for the track participants.

FAQ

What do the participants do?

Each participant chooses one of the areas of the school: algorithms and applications,
mobile and
web development, game development, neural interfaces, VR/AR, data analysis and machine learning,
bioinformatics, distributed systems, functional programming, information
safety,
microcontrollers and robotics, as well as an application programming course for beginners in
in the form of an intensive
mini projects.
Within each direction there is an opportunity to pass intensives of varying complexity, to prepare for
competitions and olympiads, to implement projects with curators. At the end of the school, there is a general presentation of projects and exams with
subsequent
individual feedback and recommendations for further development opportunities. Examples of projects in the section “They write about us” and in the blog on Habré.
Despite the intensive study, the key values of the school are a favorable
open environment and trusting relationships, as well as a community of like-minded people. Created
conditions and atmosphere help not
be afraid to set bold goals and take initiative, make mistakes, make decisions and try new things.

What makes the school different from other camps and
programs?

The school is constantly changing, the emphasis is on the community, informal environment and activities, individual training and practice with developers from the industry and start-ups.
Opportunity to work with like-minded people on projects in various technological fields, just out of curiosity and interest, without training in olympiads, contests, monetization, etc. As some of our teachers ironically remark, the camp remembers why you fell in love with programming, and want to do something again then create and learn.
We pay a lot of attention to communication, fun and relaxation, each time we are creative with the program of evening events, we make it together with the participants, involving them in co-authorship. Together we create a little unforgettable piece of summer and communicate a lot, which is not very similar to many training schools. All this bears fruit, a community is formed. Outside of school, the guys implement joint projects together, launch startups, win hackathons, return to school as organizers, ride bicycles, go hiking and make friends. The school is already 8 years old, some of them even got married, hired each other and published joint scientific articles.

Who teaches and oversees projects?

Teachers and curators of the school – developers, researchers, managers, designers and
experience in IT and related fields. The ratio of teachers to participants is 1 to 6, and even without organizers, this school is quite unique. This allows you to approach each individual, inspire and establish contact.
In addition to teachers, the school has 8 more organizers, including psychologists, who daily form the program, monitor the physical and emotional state of participants and safety, conduct events and non-programming special courses.

How many schools have you already held? What is besides
schools?

Our history began with participation in the ABBYY and Yandex school and the subsequent start in
January 2015 GoToCamp schools with new partners. To date, it has already taken place
over 30
schools at various sites, including universities and offices of partner companies: Yandex, MIPT,
FKN
HSE, ITMO, Innopolis, Moscow Architectural Institute, Technopark Ingria, ASI, etc. The school is organized by
university lecturers, developers, researchers, project managers and
entrepreneurs.

How to participate? How is the selection?

Everyone who wishes to apply must submit their own application. In the questionnaire, we ask you to answer in detail
to questions, especially if you have not participated before. It is important to answer in detail
questions, talk about your motivations and ideas.
Based on these answers and an online interview for newcomers, we form a list
recommended for enrollment and send you an invitation to your contact email with instructions. The final distribution of projects and areas is based on the results of an interview with teachers on the first day of the school. Don’t worry when
If necessary, you can change direction at any time with the consent of the curators.

How many participants and facilitators usually?

Summer schools usually have 60-70 participants and 15-20 facilitators and a doctor. In the off-season – 40 participants,
10-15 curators and organizers.
