The Galena Territory

The Galena Territory is a semi-private, 6,800-acre private recreational and residential lake community located six miles outside the historic city of Galena in Northwest Illinois.

Property owners in the low-density planned residential community collectively own 1,900 acres of recreational amenities in addition to their own properties. These include 31 miles of walking/hiking trails, Lake Galena for boating and outstanding fishing, a marina complex, an equestrian center, and a state-of-the-art pool/recreation complex.

The Galena Territory boasts spectacular vistas, valleys, prairies, and woodlands, and harbors rare plant and bird species found nowhere else in Illinois. With a commitment to protecting and preserving this natural environment, The Galena Territory was designated a Community Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife Federation in 2010. MORE

The Galena Territory and Jo Daviess County are found in a unique geographical region called the Driftless Area, referring to the ridges and valleys the glaciers of the Pleistocene Epoch avoided.

The Galena Territory is easily reachable from anywhere in the Midwest without traveling far. Thanks to its beautiful setting and proximity to historic Galena, Illinois, and its boutiques and art galleries, The Territory is both rural and urban at the same time.

How did The Galena Territory grow from

a few farms to what it is today?

In 1970 the land we know and love as The Galena Territory was farmland. When The Branigar Organization, Inc. began development, they envisioned a lake where there was only a creek. In all, 22 farms were combined to become The Galena Territory which was incorporated on July 26, 1973.

The first amenity built was the Shenandoah Riding Center, in 1974, because it was on an existing road so it could be started without waiting for road construction. The first annual rodeo was held in 1975.

Lake Galena, dam, and spillway were constructed in 1974. During the summer of 1976 the lake was stocked with fish – 800 pounds of brown and rainbow trout, 500 largemouth bass, 4,000 blue gills, 2,100 channel cats, 2,000 perch, 50,000 northern pike and 50,000 walleyes were added.

Initially, Eagle Ridge Inn and the golf courses were constructed as a part of the development. In 1992, Eagle Ridge became a separate organization The Galena Territory Association is proud to partner with for many events.

The Owners’ Club was built in 1974 and expanded several times. Eventually adding a game room, office space the locker rooms and Social Halls. In 2012, the new Outdoor Pool Complex was opened with a activity pool, double slide, seating area, zero-entry pool with bubblers and a frog slide.

A combination of amenities with horses, tennis and Lake Galena, and a mix of housing; single-family, multi-unit or cluster housing, townhouses with a resort area;. This was all part of the “master plan of development” which is The Galena Territory today.

ABOUT US

ABOUT US

Hi, I’m Barbara. (aka Barbara Brownie)

As a cook and former caterer, I love being in the kitchen. In 1995, I started a small side business baking brownies called Barbara Brownie. Since 1998, our classic brownies and other baked goods have been available at every Flatbread Company location, and quality stores and restaurants from Massachusetts to Hawaii and Maine To New York.

When I heard that some of the kids that go to Flatbread were allergic to gluten, I was inspired to create a brownie that everyone could enjoy and not just people with gluten allergies. It became my “Free At Last” brownie which is gluten-free, dairy-free and nut-free. They melt in your mouth with no “gluten-free after-taste”. In fact, non gluten-free people can not tell the difference. I really did it for the kids.

Later, my daughter Arielle joined me and together we continue to expand our gluten-free product line. That idea has now created our “Gluten Free Territory” company,
a separate dedicated gluten and nut-free facility.

Each of our premium, handmade, gluten-free products go through months of testing until it looks, tastes, smells and melts in your mouth like it should. We use real butter, crack every egg, and most important, use only real Madagascar vanilla to make the very best gluten-free baked goods that are tested to less than 5 parts per million of gluten, and made in a dedicated gluten-free/nut-free/peanut-free/soy-free facility.

We are very excited to be able to help people who are allergic to gluten or are just trying to eliminate it from their diet. Now these people are once again able to enjoy some sweet delights that actually taste good!

I am almost crying with joy.

The GF Pumpkin Cheesecake Brownie tasted amazing, so real and delicious!  There was no gritty after-taste or “not quite right” sawdust tinge like in most GF baked goods I’ve tried, and it was perfectly moist with just the right affluent of satisfying resistance as I sank my teeth into it.

Thank you! Thank you so much for making something I can eat & enjoy without getting sick.

I am very pleased
with everything.

The brownies were delicious and the shipping was very fast. My 5 year old daughter has celiac and it makes things like special meals or holidays difficult. Her school had a Thanksgiving lunch with a mini pumpkin pie that she can’t eat. Fortunately, I tossed your yummy gluten-free pumpkin cheesecake brownies into her schoolbag- It was a lovely little surprise for her. And my lovely surprise was the nice handwritten note in the box with the brownies. Very nice. I am so glad I came across your business. Thank you!

Territory of the Russian Empire in 1725-1815

In the 1720s the delimitation of Russian and Chinese possessions continued under the Burinsky and Kyakhta treaties of 1727. In the areas adjacent to the Caspian Sea, as a result of the Persian campaign of Peter I (1722-1723), the border of Russian possessions temporarily covered even all the western and Caspian territories of Persia. In 1732 and 1735 in connection with the aggravation of Russian-Turkish relations, the Russian government, interested in an alliance with Persia, gradually returned the Caspian lands to it.

In 1731, the nomadic Kirghiz-Kaisaks (Kazakhs) of the Younger Zhuz voluntarily accepted Russian citizenship, and in the same 1731 and 1740. – Middle Zhuz. As a result, the empire included the territories of the entire eastern Caspian, the Aral Sea, the Ishim and the Irtysh. In 1734, the Zaporizhian Sich was again accepted into Russian citizenship.

In the second quarter of the XVIII century. Russia continued the struggle for access to the Black, Azov and Baltic Seas. As a result of the wars with Turkey 1735-1739gg. Russia returned the Sea of Azov, but agreed to recognize it and Kabarda as neutral (“barrier”) lands, and secured Zaporozhye (including part of the Right-Bank Ukraine). After the war with Sweden (1741-1743), Russia received part of the territory of Finland (Kyumenegorsk province and part of Savolakskaya with the city of Neishlot) in the Peace of Abo in 1743.

Evidence of the increased influence of Russia in the world was its participation in the Seven Years’ War (1756-1763) in alliance with France and Austria against Prussia. During this war, East Prussia was occupied by Russian troops in 1758, and Berlin was taken in 1760. However, already in 1762, an admirer of the Prussian king, Peter III, ceded to Prussia all Russian conquests during the Seven Years’ War.

By this time, Russia was left with the task of reaching the Black Sea. After a series of brilliant victories of the Russian army during the Russian-Turkish war of 1768-1774. According to the Kyuchuk-Kainarji peace treaty with Turkey, Russia received the Sea of \u200b\u200bAzov to the Kuban, Kinburn with the territory from the Dnieper to the Southern Bug, the fortress of Kerch and Yenikale in the Crimea. Kabarda became part of Russia. Admitted to the citizenship of North Ossetia. The Crimean Khanate became independent from Turkey, and in 1783 it was annexed to Russia.

In 1787, Turkey again declared war on Russia, but, having suffered a number of defeats, in 1791, under the Treaty of Jassy, recognized the annexation of the former Crimean Khanate to Russia. In addition, Russia received the territory between the Southern Bug and the Dniester.

In 1783, the Georgievsky Treaty was concluded with the kingdom of Kartli-Kakheti (Eastern Georgia) on the voluntary recognition of the Russian protectorate over it.

In the west of the country, the main territorial acquisitions were associated with the three partitions of Poland (1772, 1793, 1795). The intervention of Prussia and Austria in the internal affairs of Poland led in 1772 to its division, in which Russia was forced to take part, acting in defense of the interests of the Orthodox population of Western Ukraine and Belarus. Part of Eastern Belarus (along the Dnieper-Western Dvina line) and part of Livonia were ceded to Russia. In 1792, Russian troops again entered the territory of the Commonwealth at the call of the Targowice Confederation. As a result of the second partition of Poland in 1793, the Right-bank Ukraine and part of Belarus (with Minsk) were ceded to Russia. The third section of the Commonwealth (1795) led to the elimination of the independence of the Polish state. Courland, Lithuania, part of Western Belarus and Volhynia went to Russia.

In the south-east of Western Siberia in the XVIII century. there was a gradual advance to the south: to the upper reaches of the Irtysh and Ob with tributaries (Altai and the Kuznetsk basin). Along the Yenisei, Russian possessions covered the Minusinsk Basin and the upper reaches of the Yenisei, excluding the sources themselves. Further to the east, the borders of Russia in the XVIII century. determined by the border with the Chinese Empire.

In the middle and second half of the century, the possessions of Russia, by right of discovery, covered southern Alaska, discovered in 1741 by the expedition of V. I. Bering and A. I. Chirikov, and the Aleutian Islands, annexed in 1786.

Thus, during the XVIII century, the territory of Russia increased to 17 million km 2 , and the population from 15.5 million people. in 1719 to 37 million people in 1795

All these changes in the territory, as well as the development of the state structure of the Russian Empire, were accompanied (and in some cases preceded) by intensive research – primarily and most of all topographic and general geographical.

In the 19th century, as well as in the previous century, the state territory of our fatherland continued to change, mainly in the direction of expansion. The territory of the country increased especially strongly in the first fifteen years of the 19th century. as a result of wars with Turkey (1806-1812), Iran (1804-1813), Sweden (1808-1809), France (1805-1815).

The beginning of the century is significant for the expansion of the possessions of the Russian Empire in the Caucasus. In 1801, the Kingdom of Kartli-Kakheti (Eastern Georgia), which had been under the protectorate of Russia since 1783, voluntarily joined Russia.

The unification of Eastern Georgia with Russia contributed to the subsequent voluntary entry into Russia of the Western Georgian principalities: Megrelia (1803), Imeretia and Guria (1804). In 1810, Abkhazia and Ingushetia voluntarily joined Russia. However, the coastal fortresses of Abkhazia and Georgia (Sukhum, Anaklia, Redut-Kale, Poti) were held by Turkey.

The Bucharest peace treaty with Turkey in 1812 ended the Russo-Turkish war. Russia kept in its hands all the regions of Transcaucasia up to the river. Arpachay, Adzharian mountains and the Black Sea. Only Anapa was returned to Turkey. On the other side of the Black Sea, Russia received Bessarabia with the cities of Khotyn, Bendery, Akkerman, Kiliya and Izmail. The border of the Russian Empire was established along the Prut to the Danube, and then along the Kiliya channel of the Danube to the Black Sea.

As a result of the war with Iran, the North Azerbaijani khanates joined Russia: Ganja (1804), Karabakh, Shirvan, Sheki (1805), Cuban, Baku, Derbent (1806), Talysh (1813), and in 1813 the Gulistan peace treaty was signed, according to which Iran recognized the accession to Russia of Northern Azerbaijan, Dagestan, Eastern Georgia, Imeretia, Guria, Megrelia and Abkhazia.

Russo-Swedish War 1808-1809 ended with the annexation of Finland to Russia, which was announced by the manifesto of Alexander I in 1808 and approved by the Friedrichsham Peace Treaty of 1809Russia ceded the territory of Finland to the river. Kemi, including the Åland Islands, Finnish Lapland and part of the province of Västerbotten up to the river. Torneo. Further, the border was established along the Torneo and Munio rivers, then north along the Munioniski-Enonteki-Kilpisjärvi line to the border with Norway. Within these boundaries, the territory of Finland, which received the status of an autonomous Grand Duchy of Finland, remained until 1917.
