“Children of the Forest” by Katya Brandis
We offer a new series for teenagers, received in December 2020 at the Pechenga MBO.
German writer Katja Brandis gives children, teenagers and adults a story about a werewolf boy. The series of books was called “Children of the Forest”.
Each book in the series tells about young werewolves who study at a special school – “Crystal”. Each character represents a certain animal entity. And the personality of the animal is reflected in the character and appearance of man. Children learn their duality, learn to manage transformations, find a common language with their own kind. At the same time, there is a division into peaceful and predatory werewolves, which leaves an imprint on the relationship of the characters. nine0007 There is also a villain werewolf in the book who dreams of taking revenge on all people for the grief caused to him in the past. And it is the heroes of the book who will not only expose him, but also prevent the impending catastrophe.
The “Children of the Forest” series so far includes six books.
1 Brandis, Katya. Children of the forest. Transformation Karaga : [for middle school age] / Katya Brandis; [translated from German by A. Kukes; illustrations by K. Karls]. – Moscow: Eksmo, 2020. – 318, [1] p. nine0007 Copies: total: 6 – Ab(1), CDB(1), F.3(1), F.4(1), F.6(1), F.7(1)
“Transformation of Karag” first A book in the “Children of the Forest” series. From the first pages, the reader plunges into the wild life of the cougar family, which are not only animals, but also people. Cougars are dangerous predators and it is easier for them to live in the form of an animal than a person. But Karag once visited the city and realized how much beauty exists in the human world, he decided to become a man. A difficult decision for a ten-year-old child, especially considering that the family did not support him. That’s how a cougar named Karag became a boy with a simple name Jay. nine0007 Once in the city, in a new family, Karag quickly realized that hiding his identity is not so easy. And the people were not as kind as he thought. He was more and more striving back until he was found by the teachers of the “Crystal” school. He got into the wonderful world of werewolves, which turned out to be much more than the boy could imagine. In this place, he was able to finally find friends and accept his true nature. That’s just a rare cougar werewolf who can become a true ally. And some strange personalities have their own plans for Karag. The hero has to make a decision on which his future life will depend. nine0003

Karag and his friends have moved on to a new stage of learning. They not only have to get used to the wild, but also adapt to the world of people. Everything was fine until the boy’s sworn enemy decided to settle accounts with him. He has just learned to trust, as another betrayal awaits him. Now not only the cougar boy is in danger, but also people close to him. And when trouble knocked on the door, Karag found an unexpected ally, a wolf girl who always looked down on the cougar. nine0003

3. Brandis, Katya. Children of the forest. Mystery Holly : [for middle school age] / Katya Brandis; [translated from German by O. Teremkova]; illustrations by Claudia Karls. – Moscow: Eksmo, 2021. – 346, [1] p. : ill. – (Children of the Forest; Book 3): Holly’s Secret.
School “Crystal” for many young werewolves has become a real home, where they can not only live in peace in warmth and comfort, but they will also be surrounded by care and love. And while the main villain hid, waiting for the time for a new blow, the guys are in for a new trouble.
There is a series of thefts in the city. At the same time, many thefts are committed in those places where a person, with all the desire, cannot secretly penetrate. It becomes clear that the thief is a werewolf, while turning into either a small animal or an insect. Trying to figure out who is behind the crimes, Karag realizes that it could very well be his girlfriend – Holly. Holly is a werewolf squirrel, and from the very first day they met Karag knew that Holly was a petty thief who, because of her restlessness, pulls everything that lies badly. But how can Holly now act the way she used to? Is she capable of a more serious crime? Isn’t she afraid of dropping out of school? And how can you believe that Holly can fall so low? Karag will have to decide what is more important for him – friendship or justice. nine0003

Crystal School is not the only school where werewolves are trained. Many such schools are scattered around the world. And one of these schools is located in distant Costa Rica. This is where Karag and his classmates go. They will have to explore the wildlife of Costa Rica, get acquainted with the life of other werewolves, learn how to interact with different types of animals and just learn more about their world. nine0003
The trip was supposed to be interesting and exciting, but only the enemy of the puma boy could not forgive him and is preparing a new blow. Karag will have to face a test that will completely change his life. And the price that he will have to pay in a new confrontation may be too high.
