February Learning Calendar for Kids (Free Printable)

February’s learning calendar printable is ready! Just a reminder~ as each month comes to an end, I will be posting the next month’s calendar worksheet for you to print out and use at home or in the classroom. (Click here for learning calendars from previous months.)

Remember that every child learns at a different pace. When trying any activity with  your child or students, the goal is to challenge them, but not for them to reach their frustration level. If you notice your child becoming frustrated, it’s time to step back and modify the activity.

Using the Learning Calendars in the Classroom

At the beginning of the school year, we’d complete these calendars together. I’d have my calendar printable on the overhead while the students had theirs in front of them on their desks. We’d first number all the days of the month. This gives the students practice writing their numbers at least up to 30 (or 31 for the longer months). The kids were also always surprised to see the first day of the month didn’t always start on Sunday! After writing the ’1′ on the first day of the month, I always circulated around the room to be sure all the students had their ones in the correct place before continuing with writing the rest of the numbers.

Once we were done writing in the numbers, we’d write any special days for the month on the correct space on the calendar.

After writing all the dates and special days, we’d answer the questions below the calendar together. I’d model my thought process as I found the answer to each question.

As the months went on, some students became very comfortable completing the calendars on their own. Others still wanted to do them with me so we’d sit together to work on them.

When the students were done with their calendars, I encouraged them to take their calendars home and hang them somewhere where they could easily access them. I loved hearing how students were using them at home to write in their special activities like gymnastics or soccer. Such a good resource for them!

Using the Calendars at Home

At home with Lucy I follow the same procedure as I listed above for in the classroom except in this situation we’re sitting together at our table at home. I even print one out for myself so we can complete our calendars together at the same time.

Remember to make modifications for your child depending on their comfort level. For example, Lucy is quite comfortable writing her numbers, but her frustration level goes up when writing lots of words. So when we get to the questions at the bottom of the sheet, we work together to find the answer, and then I write it on her calendar for her. Writing the answers we arrived at together for her allow me the opportunity to model so many things: when to use a capital letters, spacing, letter formation, and blending and segmenting words. So don’t feel like your cheating your child in anyway if you do some writing for them~ lots of learning is still going on!

As parents, it’s so easy to get caught up in all the tasks we need to do every day and miss the opportunity to enjoy our kids more.

The most important goal I have this year when it comes to my family is to remind myself every day to slow down, connect with my kids, and make them feel happy and loved.

And I know that the best way to make this happen is to be intentional about spending quality time with my family.

This is why I decided to create a family time calendar to help us connect and bring us closer. And I want to invite you to try it as well!

How is this activity calendar different

There are plenty of activity calendars online, but I wanted something different.

Although I love discovering awesome activity ideas on Pinterest, I realize that I won’t be able to put them into practice every day.

I don’t want to waste time gathering a lot of materials or preparing activities. So I looked for simple activities that we can make in 30 minutes a day (except the weekly family night), using only items we already have or printables I can easily create.

The main goal of using this calendar is to have something easy to do with my child every day to help us connect and have fun together.

Also, this is not a calendar with activities for kids to do on their own. Every single activity is meant to include the parent as well.

It’s not about inviting the child to build a robot out of LEGOs, it’s about building one together. It’s not about asking the child to draw a family portrait. It’s about the parent drawing one as well.

Every time you do one of these activities with your kids, and you draw, build, read, create something with them, you get the chance to get closer to them and build a strong, loving relationship. And this is what this monthly calendar is all about!

You won’t find here “fancy” activity ideas but you’ll certainly discover simple ways to bring more joy and connection to your family! And I hope you and your kids will enjoy them!

Family night ideas for February:

– Movie night: Watch a movie with an animal main character (movie recommendations: “Finding Dory”, “Ratatouille”)

– Indoor picnic in the living room: Turn the dinner into a picnic and have fun while enjoying some tasty food. You can also prepare your children’s favorite dessert to surprise them.

– Movie night: Watch a documentary together. (recommendations: the documentaries created by Disney Nature)

Puzzle time: Pick out a big puzzle and work on it together. Play some music on the background to create a nice atmosphere and collaborate to put the puzzle together.

55 years since the birth of Svetlana Leonidovna Mordvina (1967), head of the Kindergarten No. 29, honorary worker of education and education of the Russian Federation.

Born in the village of Uva, Udmurt ASSR. In 1972, the family moved to Glazov. She graduated from secondary school No. 6 (1984), with honors from the Children’s Art School (1984), Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of the Glazov State Pedagogical Institute. V. G. Korolenko (1990).

Svetlana Leonidovna has over 36 years of experience in preschool educational institutions in Glazov. She worked as an educator, deputy head for educational and methodological work, head of kindergartens No. 6, 32. Since 2011, she has been the head of the Kindergarten No. 29 MBDOU.

Mordvina Svetlana Leonidovna is the winner and prize-winner of various professional competitions: 2nd place in the All-Russian competition in the nomination “Management of an educational institution” (2017), a diploma for winning the qualifying stage of the Second All-Russian Competition for the best presentation of the experience of educational institutions in the nomination “Presentation educational institution” (2017), a diploma for winning and achieving high results at the final stage of the III All-Russian Competition for the best presentation of an educational (social) institution (2018), a certificate and certificate of the winner of the first All-Russian open competition “The best leaders of the Russian Federation” (2019), diploma of the I degree of the II All-Russian competition of professional skills “Teachers of Russia” for the competitive work “ICT – as a means of optimizing the role of the head of preschool educational institutions in working with parents during the coronavirus pandemic” (2020).

The teaching staff, headed by Svetlana Leonidovna, takes an active part in various international, Russian, republican, city competitions, wins prizes: the winner in the nomination “Sympathies for children” of the All-Russian professional competition “Educator of the Year of Russia – 2018”, winner of the Republican competition “Teacher of the Year of Udmurtia – 2018”, winner of the II All-Russian Competition. L. S. Vygotsky (2018) and many others. For more than 5 years, the kindergarten team has been participating in the Republican festival of health tourism “Around the World of Udmurtia”, the All-Russian mass ski race “Ski Track of Russia”, in 2020 it took 2nd place in the city all-around of the All-Russian Physical Culture and Sports Complex “Ready for Labor and Defense”. For several years, the kindergarten under the leadership of Svetlana Leonidovna became the winner of the All-Russian competition “The Best Preschool Educational Organization” (2015, 2016, 2017, 2019).

Svetlana Leonidovna has been a member of the State Examination Board of the FGBOU HE “Glazov State Pedagogical Institute named after I. I. V. G. Korolenko” in the profile “Preschool education”.

Svetlana Leonidovna Mordvina was awarded a Certificate of Honor from the Ministry of Education and Science of the Udmurt Republic (2005) for her professional activities. He has the title of “Honorary Worker of Education and Education of the Russian Federation” (2018).
