Our Young Preschool Program (2 ½ to 3 years) is based on learning through play. Children work through developmentally-appropriate individual and group activities.

Learning through play encourages large and small muscle development to help your child grow.

We also focus on communication skills (both speaking and listening) and problem- solving techniques. These are learned through our play-based activities as well as casual interactions with teachers and other students.

Children are encouraged to talk to each other about conflict and problems. Some children at this age may be shy or choose to watch at the boundaries of an activity. We create space for individual differences in levels of activity.

Kiddie Time knows that the school schedule is not always conducive to your work schedule. That’s why we have continued with our traditional home away from home feel and made it available for children that require before and after school care with extended hours, we open at four in the morning and stay open until eleven at night.

We offer hot, nutritious meals and snacks that meet with Michigan state approval. All of these meals are served family style to encourage good choices and proper table manners.

“Curfew” for children and adolescents, already piloted in some regions, may soon be introduced nationwide. On Wednesday, the State Duma intends to consider in the first reading the presidential amendments to the law “On Basic Guarantees of the Rights of the Child”, which provide for a ban on children under 14 years old to be alone after ten o’clock in the evening outside the home. Supporters of the law say the “curfew” is “a timid attempt to get children off the street.” But even the lobbyists for the amendments admit that the problem is such that it cannot be solved simply by restrictions.

Olga Kostina, a member of the Public Chamber and an active supporter of innovation, cites the Kemerovo region as an example. They were among the first to adopt their own “curfew” law and faced what was by and large to be expected – teenagers go outside because it is safer there than at home. nine0003

– They gave a command, the police took to the streets and began to bring children to families, – says Kostina. – And it turned out that children themselves run away from parents who drink, take drugs and so on. They are just scared to sleep there. And can you imagine what such parents will do with a child whom the police brought home, and even fined him?

As a result, the Kemerovo region acted in a peculiar way with fines, deciding to apply them mainly to legal entities, that is, to the owners of establishments that let teenagers in after ten in the evening. Nevertheless, police statistics say that even as a half-measure, the “curfew” is bearing fruit – after its introduction, the number of “night” crimes against minors in the Kemerovo region decreased by 16%, of which against life and health – by almost 43%. But nationwide, the numbers are still appalling. The head of the Investigative Committee at the Russian Prosecutor’s Office (SKP), Alexander Bastrykin, yesterday cited the following statistics: last year, 126,000 children became victims of criminal attacks, of which 1914 died. In the nine months of 2008 alone, 784 cases of sexual harassment of minors were recorded. “We cannot continue to watch indifferently how our children are being killed and raped,” Bastrykin said.

Can the Kemerovo example be considered, if not salvation, then at least a path to it? Hardly. After all, now, as an experiment, the “curfew” is formally operating in fifteen regions of the country, including Moscow. But in many regions, this experiment was simply not noticed – due to the fact that this is a troublesome business, it requires considerable efforts from the police, and only moral satisfaction can bring, and even then – only to notorious enthusiasts. nine0003

– The question is mostly for the Ministry of Internal Affairs, – Bastrykin told Izvestiya, who asked what he sees as problems with the introduction of a “curfew”. – But I, for example, started my career as a criminal investigation officer and specialized in the prevention of juvenile delinquency. There was no demagoguery at that time: a child on the street – that’s it, to the duty unit, to the children’s room, parents are called, a letter to school, “sorting out” in full.

Now, of course, there is nothing of the kind. As, for example, Kostina believes, it was the Kemerovo experience that showed that much needs to be done before putting the law into practice. We need social institutions, shelters, where the police could take the child if it turns out that he hangs out on the street because he has a dangerous situation in the family. “Curfew” can really and effectively work only as part of a single state system. nine0003

– It’s not about the details of the bill, but about how society will react to it, – Bastrykin believes. – Take law enforcement experience in foreign countries.
