Kindy Cove

This recreation-based program* is available for children enrolled in Kindergarten. Open until 2:30 p.m. daily, Kindy Cove offers flexible schedules for parents, an easy registration process, and a transportation option. Program includes age-appropriate activities in a fun and safe environment. Children will participate in hands-on enrichment activities including 
games, crafts, and a ton of fun!

  • Enrollment forms are required prior to registration. Contact site for forms.
  • Daily registration and drop-off options are available.
  • Program hours are from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. daily.

Kids & Nature

Kids & Nature is a nine-month care and enrichment program* for children enrolled in Kindergarten that teaches children to look at the world from a caring viewpoint while showing them ways to have a positive impact on the environment. Curriculum topics include: animals, local wildlife, caring connections, and protecting the earth and environments around the world. Closed-toe shoes required. Pickup is available from Turtle Rock Elementary and Bonita Canyon Elementary.

  • Must be enrolled in Kindergarten.
  • Weekday Mornings:11:30 a. m.–2:30 p.m.
    • 5-day option: Monday–Friday
    • 3-day option: Monday/Wednesday/Friday
    • 2-day option: Tuesday/Thursday

Before & Afterschool Program | First Coast YMCA

Before and Afterschool child care is part of the Y’s focus on holistically fostering the physical, social and emotional development of kids of all ages.

At the Y, kids will learn more about their world, develop healthy relationships with adults and other kids, build self-reliance, get help with their schoolwork and more — all in a safe, nurturing environment.

The Before and Afterschool program is offered at more than 40 sites across the First Coast for children ages 5-12 in elementary school. Some sites also offer programming for middle school students. Please contact your nearest Y location for more information.

Scholarships, in the form of financial assistance, are awarded to families interested in participating in YMCA programs, like our Before and After School Program. To determine eligibility, a family must complete a financial assistance application and supply all necessary supporting documentation. A member of the YMCA professional staff team will review applications confidentially and make award determinations based on a sliding scale. We are sensitive to extenuating circumstances, and will readily discuss needs a family may have beyond what their household income would indicate.

Responsibility for students after school – at school

The school is responsible for students after the end of the school day: while children are on the territory of an educational institution, teachers are required to supervise them, notes the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation.

The essence of the case

The highest instance tried the case on compensation for moral damage from the parents of a schoolboy who fell on a classmate, causing him serious bodily harm. The incident took place in the school yard.

Position of the Supreme Court

“According to claims for compensation for harm filed in accordance with Article 1073 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation by the parents of a minor, the court is obliged to involve in the case as a co-respondent an educational institution, within the walls or on the territory of which the minor was at the time of causing harm to him “, says VS.

Educational organizations are responsible only for the failure to properly supervise the minor at the time of harm, explains the Sun.

“Courts must take into account that the limits of liability of parents (adoptive parents), guardians, custodians, as well as educational, medical and other organizations or a person exercising supervision over a minor, are different.

It follows from the above regulations and clarifications of the Plenum that the educational organization where the minor was temporarily staying is responsible for the harm caused to the minor if it did not exercise proper supervision over him at the time of the harm. The duty of proper supervision of minors should be carried out by an educational organization not only during the stay of a minor within the walls of an educational institution, but also on its territory assigned to this institution in the prescribed manner, ”emphasizes the Armed Forces.

So in this case, the school must prove that it was not guilty of causing harm to a student who was on its territory immediately after the end of classes (no later than 20 minutes).

However, the courts of the first and appellate instances misinterpreted and applied the substantive law to the disputed relations, as a result of which they came to the erroneous conclusion that the children were out of control of the educational institution, and therefore the school cannot bear civil liability for student actions.

The courts proceeded from the fact that the student was injured after the end of the lessons, while no school events were held on the territory of the educational institution.
