Flashlight Freeze

Breakout your goofiest dancing skills in this game! Get moving and grooving to the music, but as soon as the flashlight beam hits you or your group you freeze in place. If you move, you’re out.

Flashlight Hide-and-Seek

This is a great game if you only have one flashlight. All the typical hide and seek rules apply, but this time all the lights are out and the seeker uses a flashlight to navigate the area.

Try to find as many people as you can within a set time. Whoever finds the most people after a few rounds wins.

Night Time Hide-and-Seek (alternative)

Similar to the flashlight game above, but with one important change. As the seeker finds someone they become “it” and receives a flashlight to start looking for others.

Flashlight Limbo

You will need 2 flashlights with highly focused beans for this one. Two people stand facing each other with their flashlights aimed at each other to create a beam. Others try to “limbo” under the beam. How low can you go?

Night Time Reflector Hunt

Think of an Easter egg hunt but way more fun! Buy some cheap reflectors from Amazon or at your local hardware store and glue them to index cards with a hole punched in them.

Hang them on outside in various places. Separate the players into teams and let them go searching for them. Whoever finds the most, wins! This works best for wooded areas but can be adapted to almost any environment.

Catch the Firefly

One person who is the firefly takes a small pin style flashlight (preferred) goes into the dark while the others wait. The firefly counts to 30 then will flash the light once.

He/she is constantly moving to avoid being captured by the others. Whoever captures the firefly wins.

Shadow Puppet Show

Divide the youth into groups. Have them come up with a puppet show or skit using only a flashlight and their shadows.

Living in the Spotlight

This is one of my favorite flashlight games when used as an introduction game or just to be silly. Everyone stands in a circle in the dark. Each person can have a flashlight or one person in the middle can be the pointer.

When the spotlight is on you, you must tell a joke, sing, dance, answer a question, etc. Another way to play is to start a story, when the spotlight is on you start a story.

When the spotlight is on the next random person, they must continue making up and telling the story. Have someone record the story then read it out loud the next day.

Silhouette Drawings

Each person in the group takes a turn standing in front of a bright led flashlight. The others in the group draw their silhouette and name it. This is a great alternative to a group picture.

Morse Code Cracking

Have you ever wanted to be a spy? This is a great game to use to find a door prize! Print Morse Code charts and pass them out.

Have the spies look into a field or out the window for the code. Someone else hides a prize in advance and then flashes Morse Code to the group with a hint to where it is located. Whoever decrypts the message and finds the prize gets it.

Flashlight Messages

Using black construction paper and a small pin, punch holes to form a message. Shine the flashlight through the holes in the paper to show the message on the wall.

Have fun figuring out what each person wrote and replying back to their messages. Tip: Space the letters out far enough on the paper so they don’t overlap on the flashlight head.

Flashlight Treasure Hunt

Similar to the reflector hunt flashlight game above, this is perfect for close quarters. Hide real coins or fun treasure coins around a room(s). With the lights out and only using flashlights, hunt to find the treasure! Whoever finds the most wins.

A Thief in the Dark

Place a large group of different items in a light or around a very specific location. With the lights out or outside during nighttime, give the group a few moments to look over and study the objects.

Have them turn off all their flashlights. Then, the game master removes one object. Have the group turn their lights back on to determine which item is now missing. This is best played with 20 or more items.

Something is Different

Like the thief game above, but without removing an object. This time the game master simply changes an object or scene slightly in the dark. Once the groups receive the signal to turn their flashlights back on, they try to discover what is different.

Do the Flashlight Shuffle

You need a lot of space for this game and a good focusing led flashlight. Using a field of gym floor having one person with the flashlight stand above everyone else and shine the circle on the floor. The first 5, 10, or 15 people to enter the circle formed on the floor wins the round. Keep doing it until there is only one person left.

Lighting is a pretty big topic in gaming nowadays. Well, to be honest, it kind of always has been. But with the advent of ray-tracing and the ability to make light not only look and act more realistic but also allow much more dynamic reflections, lighting is all the rage again. Where light becomes more than just something to brighten up your world and cast shadows, but to fundamentally shift how you play it? It can be difficult to get quite right since light is such an integral part of any game, but plenty have tried — and have seen great success with it.

8 Alan Wake

The most obvious that comes to mind is almost always going to be Alan Wake. Famed for its self-aware narrative and famously dim protagonist (despite being the one who wrote the story, in lore), Alan Wake has an incredible aesthetic, from its obviously Twin Peaks vibes and city to the eerie and wispy use of light.

Light in Alan Wake is both thematic and a gameplay mechanic. It’s used to tear away the darkness from enemies and make them susceptible to…well, to guns. But it’s the ways shadows encroach around you at night that make your flashlight feel like your one saving grace.

Heralded by many as being a leading part of the renaissance of horror, Amnesia rose to fame as a game YouTubers loved to play to scream at and garner weirdly high numbers of views from. But unlike many that followed that felt made for YouTube, Amnesia actually has a bunch of mechanics that play well into its themes.

Monsters are real, or as real as you make them at least. It plays on the very real fear of being in the dark, your sanity dropping the longer you spend without light, and those monsters in your head manifesting. And yet, you can’t have light for too long either. It raises your sanity, but also attracts all those monsters you’ve welcomed into the world.

6 Thief

Thief is up there with Metal Gear and Tenchu as being some of the earliest stealth games, but Thief itself is actually one of the first stealth games to be played in first-person. It relied on immersion and a keen awareness of your surroundings. You had to learn guard routes to make sure one didn’t end up behind you during a heist.

Central to this was the use of light. Water arrows could be used to extinguish light sources, or fire arrows could make them. But the shadows are what really mattered — that’s where you could really find your hiding places. This is even kept in the much-maligned Thief reboot, where you can literally hide in an enemy’s own shadow.

5 Dark Souls 2

Dark Souls 2 was an important project for FromSoftware. They had to follow up on their smash hit with Dark Souls with something that had the same quality but was also distinctly different. And Dark Souls 2 was definitely that, for better or worse. Though it definitely leans towards the overly difficult side of things, it’s undeniably unique.

But an interesting change in the sequel, one not fully realized until Scholar of the First Sin, was the use of light. Torches were in limited supply and were necessary to illuminate certain areas. Some enemies would cower in fear too, but it was just as easily extinguished in water and took up a precious slot.

4 Metal Gear Solid 5

The Metal Gear series has a lot of things going for it. Their rather adept critiques of war, using the gameplay as a great vehicle to drive its themes, are all suspended through the eyes of (usually) Snake, the quintessential action hero.

MGS V, for all its success and pitfalls, changed to be more of an open-world game. Enemies had day and night routines and would react over time to how you infiltrated camps. Maybe they got searchlights, snipers, helmets, and so on. So of course, light was central to visibility here. But as a fun touch, night-vision goggled enemies could be easily taken down with just a flashlight.

3 Resident Evil 2 Remake

The Resident Evil games have quite an interesting evolution across the series. Starting as the premiere survival-horror game, they quickly pivoted to a more action-movie satire with 4, then towards full-on action movie fanservice with 6, and 8 is just like 4 again. It’s a series that’s anything but consistent.

Enter Resident Evil 2 Remake, a game taking the camera angle of 4 while incorporating a style of horror more similar to the original. The station is pitch black, with only what you illuminate with your flashlight visible. All those sounds you hear could be right behind you and you’ve no choice but to turn around and check.

2 Darkest Dungeon

Judging by the name, maybe the relevance of light is readily apparent. Darkest Dungeon, true to its name, is a very dark game, both literally and figuratively. It’s a game with extreme permadeath, with each death of a party member permanent (unless luck is on your side), and stress a major player in that. So it gets pretty dark.

When your party ventures into each dungeon, they bring with them a fully lit torch, one that dwindles with each room entered. A bright torch gives you higher chances to dodge, scout rooms, and reduce the chance of being ambushed, while a dimmer torch does the opposite while increasing the loot gained. But loot has no use for the dead, does it?

1 Boktai: The Sun Is In Your Hand

Boktai is such a fascinating game series, though the first game, produced by Hideo Kojima, is where the intriguing concept of the game was born and flourished. Set in a world where humanity has all but died out and the world is overrun with immortal beings who thrive in darkness. This brings us to Boktai’s use of light.

The game came with a solar sensor peripheral that could detect sunlight and charge your in-game gun with it, one of only two ways of actually charging the weapon. The game also used real-life time to simulate a day-night cycle, with the game being easier during the day. It’s an interesting way of making you go outside.

Firefly Drawing: My class of 5 year olds recently made fantastic firefly pictures by cutting a small piece of shiny paper for the body of the firefly and drawing on the rest of its body and decorating the night sky black background. Great game!!! I haven’t felt so happy playing a game 😀

As I’m writing this review it’s my first day of playing it. First of all it’s easy and simple to play, when I first seen this game I thought it was just going to be a game where you learn and watch. I was really wrong, this game is very calm, fun, and you can make friends! This is the first time I’ve rated a game 5 stars and I personally think that this is one of the best games I had. I met this one person on here and they were really nice and helped me throughout the game, (yes this is my first day playing) people in here seem really nice and I’m happy that you made this game for people to enjoy. The only downside to this game in MY opinion is, actually NOTHING this game is just so great! Each time I make a review I just write a bit, but for this I can write soooo much about it even tho I’ve only played for less than an hour. I suggest you to try it (who evers reading this) even if you don’t think you’ll like it. Just give it a chance and this might turn into one of your favorite games out there. One of my favorite things about this game is that it gives us notifications about when our friend is online instead of waiting, another one of my favorite things is that it’s not one of those games where it just tells you what to do. You can explore on your own and the art is great! The sounds also give us a great experience for what we’re doing in the game. I hope you also enjoy this game like I am!

I absolutely LOVE this game,

This game has been my favorite for a while now, i think its such a great way to make friends and just its so relaxing. And so emotional at times with such spirits or seasons, i joined in Season Of Assembly and i’ve loved everything since, this game is such a piece of art and I absolutely love it. I love going on candle runs with my friends and talking in the discord server.

Though i have a few suggestions! It’d be really cool if we had a different guide system, if you play sky you know how often you get adopted by moths or you adopt a moth and help them through! Its just so cute to help them through and become friends! It’d be really cool if we could have a chat in a corner or a bar that pops up when a moth needs guiding, so for ex.

Lets say a moth is in the prairie but you know you’re in the vault and in another server also, since often moths can’t find anyone to help this system would pop up on everyone’s screen that a moth or even just a play needs help guiding and anyone can teleport and help them. It would be so great and cool. And of course it could also have the help for opening multiple people doors!! But i thought this would be a good idea. Again this app is amazing and i hope it’s getting the recognition it deserves. I think every season is so unique and cute, such cute and pretty outfits and capes, hairstyles! All of it is just adorable and such fun to collect. Thank you so much TGC for creating such a WONDERFUL game! <3

Greetings to all game lovers, big and small! New Year is coming, which means we have nice gifts for you. These include a collection of Christmas games about Santa Claus, Father Frost and the Snow Maiden. We hope everyone will enjoy throwing snowballs and sleigh rides during the New Year holidays, which have always been a real vacation for children, but for adults have turned into a full-fledged vacation.

Having noticed the sinking of the best flash games into the depths of the site, we decided to help you play old forgotten but popular ones through the display of a new panel. It is not available on all monitors, but only starting with a resolution of 1280px, so as not to distract owners of small screens on the current page. Depending on the genres of the current game, we show different collections, so they differ on different pages.

And also our old and attentive visitors have noticed changes in the main and additional menus. All this is aimed at improving the usability of the site by avid players. We try to make it better (although someone rightly notes here – remove ads and it will be fine) – we answer this something like this: everyone wants to eat and in order to keep all content free for use, put yourself AdBlock and there will be no problems. Dear friends. We decided to make a new sorting for game search, it’s called Sticky. We find and display the toys that you most often stick to. Turned on – and let’s play non-stop. Because everyone considers popularity, novelty – this and that, then we decided to please you with one more filter, according to which games that take a lot of time will be found. Be careful, because starting to play them you can miss such a great weather on the street :).

Given the fact that the flash plugin was blocked by chrome and other browsers, we firstly disabled ads before loading the game (it was a flash movie), and secondly, we decided to add more HTML5. The Chinese traveler Xuan Zang described it as a center of religious, educational and artistic activity, noting that the city stretched over 51 km along the western bank of the Ganges.

Wall lamps have taken root everywhere: in hallways, living rooms, children’s rooms, kitchens, bathrooms. Sconces settled in galleries of family portraits, next to mirrors (the combination of a mirror and a lamp is quite common), pianos, sofas and armchairs. And everywhere they turned out to be surprisingly appropriate and useful. Wall lamps are ideal for illuminating niches.
It is made of various materials: stone, metal, including forged, wood, plastic and composites, gypsum, ceramics. And, of course, for the manufacture of lamps, glass is widely used as milky overhead, colored, tinted, transparent or colored. The collections of manufacturing companies usually include a variety of sconces of all colors, painted or tinted in any shade, as well as painted taking into account the stylistic features of the interior. Special additives make naturally brittle materials like glass or gypsum impact-resistant and heat-resistant, so you can not be afraid of cracking. Caring for these sconces is also easy – they are allowed to be washed and cleaned.

The recommended mounting height is about two meters, so that the light is concentrated in an area just above human height. Although in special cases where strong effects are required, the luminaires can be somewhat lowered to the floor or raised to the ceiling.

The sconce will delight you with the possibility of creating a play of light on the walls. And besides, properly selected and directed light helps to focus on what you are doing at the moment.

Play of light and color – the nuances of choosing paint colors

It’s a simple fact that light can change the look of any color.

Take the same can of paint and apply it to the walls in two rooms, one with limited natural light and the other with sunlight so it looks like two different colors. For example, a warm orange-red paint in a room with a north-facing window will make the room lighter and warmer and help offset the bluish tint of the light. However, the same red-orange paint in a room with a west-facing window will become very bright in the late afternoon.

The fact is that color never stands alone. Any kind of light – daylight, artificial light, or even candlelight – can drastically change the look of a particular color. That’s why it’s important to consider light—both its presence and its absence—when choosing a color for a space.

But even natural sunlight is fickle. As the day progresses from sunrise to noon, late afternoon and dusk, the intensity of the light changes, resulting in a change in the appearance of the color. For example, an east-facing bedroom bathed in bright sunlight in the early morning will look very different the next time it is seen late at night under artificial lighting. And a west-facing room may appear dull and dark in the morning, but warm in the evening.

In the morning the sunlight is warmer because it is below the horizon and gives the room a yellowish tint. As the day approaches noon, the sunlight takes on a cool bluish tint. In fact, it’s an interesting paradox that the physically hottest sunlight gives the least “warmth” to a color. The color with the highest temperature (measured in Kelvin units) is actually blue, and the coldest color is red. At noon, especially in places exposed to direct sunlight, the color may appear washed out. Then, as noon approaches sunset, the daylight warms up again and gives the rooms a reddish tint.

Medium color temperature lamps (3500K to 4000K) are neutral or white. Light is more balanced in color wavelength.

Lamps with a higher color temperature (4000K and above) have a cool or bluish white color. Summer sunlight looks very cool at around 5500K. The light is saturated with green and blue light, making the subject’s cooler colors such as green and blue appear brighter.

In residential and commercial environments, artificial lighting is often used to either supplement or replace daylight. The type of artificial lighting used plays a big role in how a color looks.

Incandescent lamps: they emit yellow light which enhances warm colors but dimmers cool colors.

Halogen lamps: These incandescent lamps produce a brighter white light, more like sunlight.

Fluorescents: they emit a cool blue light that enhances blues and greens but dampens warmer colors.

For a warmer and cozier look that pairs well with darker colors and rich textures, use light pink incandescent bulbs or even amber accent lights in your sconces.

Ink characteristics also affect color perception. The light reflectance of paint – the amount of light reflected – can play a key role in choosing the right color for certain rooms, especially those that don’t get a lot of natural sunlight. Paints with a lighter tint have higher light reflectance values ​​than darker ones.

On the back of each Sherwin-Williams color chip is the Light Reflectance Value (LRV) of that color. The scale changes from 0 (absorbs all light) to 100 (reflects all light).

  Researchers Siobhan Rockcastle and Marilyn Andersen demonstrate the power and variability of daylight with an impressive study for the EPFL Federal Polytechnic School in Lausanne. Their goal is to trace how daylight changes during the day: how its direction and intensity change.

  To do this, the researchers analyzed numerous examples of modern architecture and, taking into account both direct sunlight and diffused light in overcast weather, identified three types of daylight lighting that architects use: contrasting light, medium-intensity lighting, and diffused light.

  A similar technique was used by the OMA and SANAA architects for the Seattle Central Library project for the Zollverein design school in Essen. The clear façade structures create intense shadows that move throughout the day. Large windows let in light almost as bright as outside. If the windows are smaller, the effect is similar, but the pattern of shadows is more subtle, with the high skill of the architect even lace. One of the best examples of bright, contrasting light entering a building through many tiny windows is the Louvre Abu Dhabi project by architect Jean Nouvel. In this way, the architect plays with the image of the Arabic wooden lattice of the mashrabiya in the building project.

  he uses partly direct light, partly indirect light. The lighting of such spaces, regardless of the time of day, is not too contrasting, but it does not become dim either – it balances on the edge. Such a technique, in particular, is used by Mies van der Rohe in the design of his famous Farnsworth House, better known as the “Glass House”. Despite the fact that the facade of the house is almost entirely made of glass, and the lighting in the room changes depending on the time of day, contrasting shadows do not violate the geometry of the space.

  Another example is the Terme Wals tourist and water complex, a project of the Swiss Peter Zumthor. Thanks to the unusual geometry of the building, the architect managed to achieve an optimal compromise between light directed by clear stripes and diffused light and make the space illuminated, but as strongly as it is implemented in the Seattle library. A similar example of playing with lines of light is used by the American deconstructionist Daniel Libeskind in a project at the Imperial War Museum in London. They help the architect to give the space a certain mood.

  Diffuse lighting avoids intense contrast and changing lighting depending on the position sun during the day. Architect Steven Hall achieves this effect with the help of the unusual geometry of the roof of the building – complex structures let through, but scatter the light passing through the windows. Indirect sunlight also illuminates the halls of the Atlanta Museum of Art, designed by Renzo Piano. Despite the fact that there are many small windows on the roof of the building, all of them seem to be covered with high hoods, due to which the light falls on directly, but is reflected from the surface of the “hood”.

  And yet, the most striking example of the use of diffuse lighting is in the project of the Japanese Shigeru Ban, which was called Naked House, or “Naked House”. The glass walls here are from floor to ceiling, but the lighting is not bright, but subdued and soft and makes you feel like you are floating in a cloud.
