The big double digits… who could forget the pride they felt when they turned 10? Age 10 is a big time in your kid’s life, so prepared to help them make the most of it.
When it comes to ideal games for your 10-year-old, remember that companionship is a big deal in your child’s life at this age. Whereas 9-year-olds are often a bit more reserved, 10-year-olds are developing new social skills and interests. It is a time of transition, as child development and early learning specialist Stacy Benge, M.S. explains, “from spending time with family to more of a focus on peer connections.”
For this reason, group games are a great fit for your 10-year-old.
“Friendly 10-year-olds do well with most games, but they love ones where the whole gang is involved,” says Eileen Kennedy Moore, Ph. D, author of the parenting course Raising Emotionally and Socially Healthy Kids.
At the same time, 10-year-olds, like 9-year-olds, are also looking for more complexity in their play. Part of the complexity might come from what the kids add or change in a given game. Dr. Kwame Brown, founder of Move Theory, reminds us that as kids become ready for more complex games, it can be fun to “collaborate to change complex rules and add to games.” Co-creating games engages kids on multiple levels, and allows them to adapt the games to their interests.
Here are seven activities and games to consider for your 10-year-old.
“Family game nights are very fun for this age,” says Kennedy-Moore.
1. Pictionary
Pictionary, which requires a lot of interaction as families race to guess what others are drawing, is simple and a lot of fun. While it doesn’t have the same complexity as other games for this group, the basic format can easily be adjusted by you and your child.

Charades
It’s similar in structure to Pictionary, but it requires its own skill set. Rather than drawing, players must use non-verbal body language to convey a word or phrase. As with Pictionary, its rules can be added to for extra challenges and fun.
3. Qwirkle
Qwirkle is another great option for family game night. A highly awarded game, Qwirkle involves players laying down tiles in sequences that follow a specific shape or color.
4. Uno Attack
Uno Attack is a great variation on classic Uno for your 10-year-old. The random variations introduced with the mechanic card launcher create a more challenging situation that your 10-year-old must constantly adapt to.
5. Apples to Apples Jr.
Apples to Apples requires players to make connections between their noun cards and the adjective card played by a judge. Convincing the judge that your card is the best fit makes Apples to Apples a highly engaging game, and one that requires complex argumentation skills if you’re going to win!
6.
Jenga
Jenga is as simple as it is fun. Pulling out pieces offers a rush of excitement, while the threat of a collapsing tower creates a competitive atmosphere. Your 10-year-old is ready for this nail-biter!
7. Buzzword Junior
Language and conversation define this game — your 10-year-old will race to answer the clue cards with the buzzword. As a team-based game, Buzzword also offers an added layer of companionship and team-building that some of the other games listed here do not.

Santorini

Santorini is a strategy-based game that’s still easy enough to use for 10-year-olds. The main objective of this game is to ‘build like a mortal and win like a god’, meaning the first player to build up to three stories, wins.
Players can play one-on-one or use some teamwork and play two against two. There are Greek God cards that can completely change the direction of the game and keep players on their toes.
Also, the game has some beautiful set pieces that make you feel like you are building ancient Greece itself.
What we liked

Azul is great for kids as the rules are easy to understand but it still requires strategy and thinking ahead to plan your patterns. Give Azul a try and mosaic your way to victory.

Although the game starts off pretty relaxed, once the tiles fill up and patterns need to be made, the game can start to get pretty intense.

Carcassonne

If you are looking for something similar to Azul but a bit more challenging, Carcassonne could be the right fit.
It has a similar premise to Azul but with a French landscape and a couple more meeples.
Carcassonne has a similar tile placement mechanic but each tile is a city, grassland, or road that must be placed to connect the landscape. Taking the decision-making a step further, players can then decide whether to place a meeple on the title. There’s a variety of meeples such as farmers, knights, monks, and even some robbers.

It’s an excellent gateway game for beginners plus there are loads of expansion packs to help you live out your pastoral medieval dreams.

The endgame scoring can be a bit tricky for newbies and young players.

I don’t know what to say.
Maybe I’m in a parallel reality. I can’t believe my eyes – 9.5 and 9 points… For what? When I saw such high ratings, I immediately bought the game in Origin, especially since they even wrote there that the game received two awards, hurry up to buy, etc… In general, this is the last time I fell for anyone opinion, I will never buy games based on ratings again.
I have played for 3 hours and will not play this game again. I don’t want to paint all the shortcomings, the game itself, in itself, is a big drawback. I can only say this, everything is disgusting, absolutely everything, from graphics outdated by at least 10 years, animation in general 15 years ago, no physics, technologically the game looks super outdated …
The gameplay is oh God forbid … Just disgust. .. Nothing radically new, everything is mundane… Gathered from the bottom of the barrel of the old, blinded incomprehensibly that.. And these corridors… these corridors… my God… this crooked landscape.
.. no freedom of action… no single map… small levels… just disgusting. How could you put 9, 5 points, .. okay, editorial, .. here you can still somehow understand .. but how could ordinary people give this game 9 points ??? I refuse to accept it.
I love RPG games very much, I’m a fan of this genre, a big fan. And I’m waiting for the game of my dreams, a new generation RPG. And I have been waiting for a very long time, since 2002, after the release of Morrowind, there has not been a single game that would have surpassed those impressions. 13 years ago they made games with love, and besides that, they also put a lot of work into them, then 13 years ago, they made games with a single huge world like in Morrowind, or for example in Gothic 2 Night of the Raven where the huge world was divided into three huge maps, then they made such games, now RPG games are more and more like corridor shooters, small levels, stupid massacre, click on the mouse and you’re here .. This is sad. And even more oppressed me from the new Dragon Age is that the game has become even more like an MMO RPG game, in the design of battles, pumping, in small levels, in corridors, and in everything.
And it’s doubly disgusting.
The plot is terrible.
