Dog attack reminder
One way or another, we often have to come into contact with dogs. It can be both stray dogs, which have become more and more in recent years, and pets. According to statistics, every year about 3.7 million people are attacked by dogs.
Any stray dog is a real danger, especially if:
• the dog is sick with rabies and throws itself at everything that moves;
• dogs gather in packs with a strong leader at the head.
Even a single bite from a rabid dog or an attack by a pack of dogs is a very likely opportunity to quickly and painfully end one’s life either in a clinic or directly at the site of the attack. Fortunately, such cases are not very frequent.
Most attacks on people, according to statistics, are carried out by pets walking with their owners. And there is an explanation for this: a dog walking with the owner feels his responsibility for the safety of all members of the “pack” and, in case of danger, will fight to the end.
People are often unfamiliar with the behavior of dogs, do not know what to expect from them in a given situation. And, unfortunately, most often the attacks are unwittingly provoked by the victims themselves, which, coupled with the irresponsibility of the owners, can lead to sad consequences, at best, it will cause a flurry of mutual reproaches and misunderstanding. Dogs are excellent telepaths. They feel your mood and state well. Don’t be afraid of dogs.
Reducing the risk of dog attacks
Dogs are pack animals, with a clear hierarchical structure of the pack: leader and subordinates. Any disobedience is punished quickly and severely, sometimes by death. The dog always wants to take the place of the leader, if there is even the slightest chance of doing so. Such is nature. Therefore, in dealing with dogs, one should rely on their psychology.
If you see that a pack of stray dogs has sprawled in the middle of your road, it is better to cross calmly and ahead of time to the other side. No need to try to take the place of the leader of this pack. Do not tempt fate and do not drag lottery tickets. Since the flock is lying, and not prowling, it means that it is not on the hunt, but “at home”, on its own territory.
First of all, try not to disturb the dog’s territory. They are one of the most territorial animals on the planet and will lash out if they think you are invading their land. Therefore, never approach a dog that no one is looking after. If you accidentally invaded his territory, slowly move away from the dog’s possessions, and do not make sudden movements that would seem hostile to him.
Never tease the dog, do not shout, do not swing at it, do not provoke it to aggression. It is also impossible to sneak up, suddenly and loudly turn to its owner, behave aggressively, make sudden movements. Don’t try to give your dog commands. Thus, you claim the place of the Master, whom she protects. Any of these actions for the dog means an attack on it, the owner, the territory. And, of course, it will cause a defensive response.
Avoid looking into the dog’s eyes – this indicates aggressive behavior and provokes an attack. Never let a dog walk behind your back. If it starts to walk around you, then this is a sure sign of the beginning of the attack, so turn to face the dog. It is convenient for the dog to attack you from the back, so try not to become an easy target.
Do not try to run away from the dog, because in the vast majority of cases, the dog is always faster than the person.
Pay attention to warning signals. A growl is the first sign that a dog is about to attack. Just like in humans, the dog’s body shows the emotions and moods of the animal. Look to see if the dog’s body is tense, if its ears are up, if its tail is carried high enough, or if it wags faster than usual.
If the dog is aggressive towards you, face him and do not move. Leave your arms at your sides and see what the animal does next. To defuse the situation, speak slowly and soothingly to your dog. Again, avoid looking directly into her eyes, focus on her ears or tail while whispering things like “good boy” or “go home.” If the dog senses the calmness and security in your voice, it will most likely just turn around and run away.
Do not expect to intimidate the dog, especially if he is with the owner. Only a downtrodden single stray dog can be intimidated. She has certainly suffered a lot from people and she herself does not want to come into contact with them once again. It is extremely difficult to intimidate a dog “with the owner”, he will work out his bread, as a watchman and security guard, to the end. Therefore, the best way to avoid conflict is not to provoke it yourself.
Actions in case of attack
An angry dog attacking a poorly defended person can be fatal. To resist the dog that attacked you, take advice that, I hope, will help you adequately get out of a difficult situation.
When a dog attacks with barking, the danger is usually small. It just scares you, driving you out of the territory (place) where you are. At the same time, it is possible that she can bite you, but this will happen only when you turn your back or sideways to her. Slowly and without making sudden movements, leave the given territory (place), and the conflict will be settled.
But if the dog rushes towards you silently or with a growl, know that he can seriously attack. If time and circumstances allow, try to take a place where the dog can’t reach you (climb somewhere higher or use the nearest door). If there is a body of water, go into the water. Even if it is shallow and the dog tries to get to you, meet him with a splash of water – this will stop him. Where the dog will have to swim to you, be calm – you are in relative safety. Afloat, the dog will not bite, and it will not be difficult to drive it away with spray.
When avoiding contact with the attacking dog is impossible, get ready to defend.
Some psychologists argue that many people find it psychologically difficult to fight dogs. A man doesn’t know how to fight a dog. Therefore, the main model of his behavior is passive defense – to close, run away, reduce his losses to a minimum. Never be passive by falling and covering yourself with your hands!
Morally, you must be prepared for the fact that, most likely, it will not do without bites. Some of the clothes will also be damaged.
In a fight with a dog, you must be morally stronger than it, feel like the master of the situation. Dogs feel it too. Scream loudly and in a vicious growling voice. Shout anything, but shout “scary”.
In addition to the psychological impact on the dog, these cries will attract others. And the owner of the dog does not smile at all to have so many witnesses. Therefore, he will make every effort to prevent conflict.
Never scream aimlessly, especially in a frightened voice. Don’t wave your arms and don’t fuss! Crying in fear and nervousness will excite the dog even more. Her pressure will only intensify.
If you have the strength to give the dog a tangible blow, try to do it before the dog bites you. A painful blow will shake the animal’s confidence in its superiority. A bite, on the contrary, will strengthen it. But in this case, be careful. Not all dogs succumb to pain. It is necessary to strike only at the “pain points” of the attacking dog:
the tip of the nose
a carrier,
back part,
Temechko behind the ears
solar plexus,
ribs,
paw joints,
· coccyx.
Vulnerable places also include eyes, nostrils (scent), mucous membranes, genitals. These vulnerabilities must be acted upon mechanically (with a fist, fingers, improvised objects (stones, sticks, branches).
If there is no dog owner nearby who can help you, and the danger is serious, do this: lean your back against the wall, fence, so as not to fall and not let yourself be bitten from behind. Pick up something from your outerwear (jacket, shirt, headdress, etc. ) and put it in front of you with outstretched arms. The dog will instinctively grab it and pull it towards itself. Hold tight! At the moment of its maximum tension, sharply (and as hard as possible) hit it with the toe of the foot in the throat. This will be enough to decide the outcome of the fight in your favor.
In the event that the situation does not allow using some object to receive the dog’s grip on it, stand half-side to the approaching animal. Keep your arm bent at the elbow at waist level. Take your kicking leg back and slightly spring your knees. When there are about two meters between you and the dog, sharply push your forearm forward to chest level. The dog will instinctively react to this movement and attack the hand. At the moment of the jump, she will stretch out, revealing her unprotected stomach. Take advantage of this and kick her in the hypochondrium. But keep in mind, if you miss the moment and do not have time to hit before the dog grabs your hand, you will no longer have the opportunity to do this later.
Imagine that you did not have time with a blow, and the animal grabbed your hand. Despite the pain, step on the dog faster than he can back away from you. Feeling no resistance from the hand, the dog is likely to let it go to grab you elsewhere. If she is wearing a collar, try to grab it with your free hand and twist it around. This is a choke hold that requires a lot of effort. If there is no collar, try again with a kick.
If you manage to knock down the dog, jump on it with your whole body and press your knees on your chest and spine.
In the “battle” use any “weapon” available to you.
Handy items. It can be a stone, a stick, a piece of asphalt, foliage, dust, dirt. None of the items should be thrown. Especially if he is alone. Hold the stone in your fist – a blow to it will be much more painful than just a fist. With a stick, you can keep the dog at a distance, and upon contact, you can poke it in the eye, mouth, or groin. A handful of foliage can be put into the dog’s mouth, into the muzzle. You will cause harm to her a little, but you will gain time, you will be able to take a more stable posture, take an advantageous position. Dust and dirt can clog eyes, nose, make her sneeze. Only it is necessary to apply them “at point-blank range”, in contact with the dog’s muzzle.
Of the improvised items you have with you, an umbrella, a bag, a bag, clothes can help …
You should not act with an umbrella like a club, it is not effective. An umbrella works much better as a shield. Open and close it – the dog does not understand the essence of things. For her, even paper is an insurmountable barrier if she does not see the goal. And the suddenly changing geometric dimensions of the victim simply confuse her. The dog (any) is simply frightened if the dome of the umbrella suddenly swings open in front of it.
The bag can “occupy” the dog’s mouth. If you hit her in the face, on the nose, the dog will reflexively seek to bite her. Let her grab the bag. When she grabs it, pull it towards you with all your might. The dog will try to keep it. Take the bag aside, divert attention and kick the dog. If possible, knock over the dog, fall on it with your whole body.
If you can take off your jacket or coat, use it to distract the dog like a shield. Try to throw a coat over the dog, blind him and make it difficult for him to move. If you succeeded, fall on it with all your weight. If it was not possible to remove the coat completely, try to free half the left sleeve. Use it as a “stand” to occupy the dog’s mouth. The right, free hand can strike.
“Ultrasonic weapon” . Ultrasonic dog repellers of industrial production, the range of which reaches up to 10 meters.
“Chemical weapons” . Dogs have an unrivaled sense of smell. He is their weakest point. Dogs are practically not affected by various nerve gases from canisters “for people.” But an excellent effect is given by pepper or mustard gases. Therefore, to protect against dog attacks, only such cartridges or cartridges for gas weapons should be purchased. You can use gas weapons against dogs from any distance. A dog, getting into a cloud of such gas, becomes disoriented very quickly. And if you manage to send a jet into the nostrils – the war ends immediately. She immediately has other problems that are more important than you.
Noise Gun . Dogs, especially trained ones, are not afraid of the sound of gunshots. Yes, and it is difficult to scare the untrained with an abstract loud sound. Another thing is to shoot her right in the ear.
“Electric weapons” . These are electrical breakers. If you have a spark gap with firing contacts, shoot only for sure, at close range. The main place of electric shock is the neck and chest.
“Firearm” . A gas lighter can be used as a flamethrower if it is capable of producing a large tongue of flame.
Dogs bite differently. Some will bite, recoil, bite again, and recoil again. Others, having made a grip, begin to pull, trying to tear off what they have grabbed. The dog will pull as long as it feels your resistance. Interception at this time is unlikely. But, as soon as the resistance weakens, wait for the interception in a new place and a second attempt to tear off what was seized. In this case, most often, dogs tear off the ear, nose, lip.
As a rule, this behavior is observed in most dogs, but especially in those that have undergone special training.
If the meeting with the dog is still not without injury. Don’t try to stop the bleeding immediately, as it will help clear the dog’s saliva from the wound. Make an attempt to get to the nearest house (apartment, organization, etc.) and call for help. If possible, flush the wound with clean water. Disinfect the skin around the bite several times with iodine, a solution of potassium permanganate, cologne, or another alcohol-containing solution, apply an aseptic bandage. Immediately go to the nearest emergency room or hospital to avoid infection with the rabies virus or other diseases that dogs carry.
Unfortunately, often a dog attack leads not only to physical, but also to psychological trauma, even to a phobia. In this case, you need to contact a special rehabilitation center or a psychologist.
And it’s easy to avoid it. You just need to follow the basic safety rules for both dog owners and others, and then communication with these wonderful creatures will be both safe and enjoyable for everyone.
The scientist found out which breeds of dogs are the friendliest (bull terrier in the list)
Although the dog is the first animal tamed by man and has existed with us for tens of thousands of years, the relationship between dogs and their owners has developed in different ways over all these centuries. There are, as you know, working breeds that are called upon to guard the house, pull teams, or, for example, graze herds. Their character can hardly be called affectionate and “sofa”. There is a companion dog, which is just for the soul and is considered almost a member of the family. However, as the published results of scientists have shown, human orientation does not always depend on the breed group. More precisely, if it comes to communicating with smaller brothers with people, then all breeds are equal. This means that you need to study their friendliness according to the same principle and give each one a chance.
Scientists have identified man’s best friends.
During the study, observations were made on 11,000 dogs representing 300 breeds.
– Dog breed is an important factor in determining personality differences. And although each dog is individual, there are certain character traits inherent in this or that breed. Most of its representatives have them, says lead author of the study, Mila Salonen.
The list of the most friendly breeds to people consists of 26 items, but we will introduce you to the top ten. So if you want to get a dog just as a friend (including a child), you should pay attention to these “man’s best friends.”
1. Bull Terrier
The breed was bred in the 1950s. Before that, a terrier and an Old English Bulldog were crossed, and then the blood of several more breeds was poured. The modern Bull Terrier has strong jaws and an intimidating appearance, the breed is physically very strong and is even mistakenly considered a fighting one. The thing is that initially bull terriers were used for underground dog fights. However, modern representatives of this breed have long lost the aggressiveness of their ancestors: even the guards of them are unimportant. It’s all about being too friendly to a person. Bull Terriers love the company of people and do not tolerate loneliness. But with other dogs, they, as a rule, do not get along well, because they have a natural tendency to dominate. At the same time, cynologists warn that training is especially necessary for the bull terrier. If the dog is not engaged, it will be uncontrollable. However, this can be said about other breeds.

2. Tickap poodle
Tickap is the smallest member of the poodle family. Outwardly, he is not very similar to the classic poodle, and some experts do not recognize this breed at all, considering tickaps to be a marriage. This dog is like a soft toy. Due to their miniature size (tee-cap is translated from English as “a cup of tea” – they say, such a dog shrinks into it), these poodles have a number of problems. They are very fragile, often injured without proper care, prone to a number of diseases and require special care. But here’s their friendliness and charm – they are affectionate and obedient pets.

3. Golden Retriever . They are easy to train and friendly dogs. The breed was bred in the UK in the century before last. Goldens have always been considered excellent hunters, implicitly following the orders of the owner. Modern representatives of this breed perfectly perform not only hunting, but also other types of work. They are used by law enforcement to search for drugs and explosives, golden retrievers perform well as rescue dogs and therapy dogs, as they get along well with both adults and children. They are even friendly to other dogs.

4. Jack Russell Terrier
Jack Russell, whose mention immediately brings to mind the Hollywood movie “The Mask”, is in third place in the list of the most friendly breeds. Initially, this type of terrier was also bred for hunting, but now everyone has forgotten about it. Today they are mostly excellent companions. True, the Jack Russell has one very characteristic feature that not everyone will like: they are incredibly energetic and they need to be constantly on the move. Therefore, such a friend is suitable for an active owner.
Jack Russell Terrier
5. Dachshund
The dachshund is considered an ideal friend for humans, and research by Finnish scientists, who put it in 4th place, has scientifically confirmed this. Germany is considered the birthplace of dachshunds. This is the oldest of the breeds of burrowing dogs, its ancestors existed next to humans, presumably in ancient Egypt. Mentions of just such a breed date back to the 16th century. Apparently, such a long communication with people from generation to generation left an imprint on the character and gradually made this purely utilitarian breed (badgers were hunted with dachshunds) just a companion.
Dachshund.
6. Brachycephalic dogs
Brachycephalic dogs include several breeds, including pugs, bulldogs and boxers. Brachycephalic dogs are distinguished by a very short, flat muzzle and large head. After conducting research, Finnish scientists found that all breeds of this type have high communicative qualities and extraordinary friendliness towards humans. This breed can be safely started by both adults and families with children, however, the physiological characteristics of brachycephals should be taken into account. They often have breathing problems, they are prone to injury and so on, so the owner needs to be especially careful with such a dog.
Pug and French Bulldog.
7. Whippet
The Whippet is a graceful, slender dog, inferior in size to a Greyhound, but larger than a Italian Greyhound. She is not as famous as a dachshund, poodle or pug, but her love for people puts her on a par with popular breeds. Whippets were bred in the century before last and were originally used to hunt hares. They are descended from greyhounds, but they presumably also have terrier blood. In addition to good hunting qualities, this breed has friendliness, so whippets are often started just as companions. They can make an excellent company even on long journeys.

8. Chinese Crested Dog
This is an ancient breed, the ancestors of which, presumably, were Chihuahua and Xolo (according to another version – African hairless dogs). The Chinese crested has two variations: hairless (pets that have hair only on the head, tip of the paws and tail) and downy (completely covered with long hair). These dogs are absolutely not characterized by aggression, they adore people, get along well with children, are obedient, affectionate and perfectly trained. Moreover, crested have excellent health and are considered centenarians. True, when choosing a naked dog, you need to take into account the weather conditions when walking. In cold weather, the pet will need to be dressed.

In addition to excellent health, the Spitz has the ability to learn and friendliness towards humans. This is one of the most problem-free breeds in terms of maintenance, including in a city apartment. True, the coat of the German Spitz requires special care.

10. Labrador Retriever
Representatives of this ancient hunting breed, like their “relatives” – golden retrievers, were originally bred as hunting dogs. However, now they are ideal companions for adults and children. Labradors make excellent and caring guide dogs, rescue dogs, in general, this is an almost universal working breed that can only be an evil guard.
