90,000 Poisonous strawberries have caused an epidemic in Germany. There are those who have been poisoned in Russia too

The symptoms are the same. Chinese strawberries could hit the shelves of any city, it is almost impossible to trace the batches. Our correspondent Anatoly Mayorov conducted his own investigation:

Back in February, at the international strawberry symposium, China promised a berry revolution to the planet. Strawberry carpet bombing then became the main metaphor for their promotional video, now half the world understands: words are down the drain, the Chinese did not throw …

Scientists from many countries are now experimenting with imported strawberries. Among them is Russia. According to Rospotrebnadzor, 80 tons of Chinese berries could get into domestic stores. How many thousands of people can become infected with the Norwalk virus or norovirus, as it is more commonly called, doctors are afraid to predict.

A vivid example is the epidemic in Germany, where in a few weeks, 11 thousand people were infected with norovirus. The victims of the Norwalk were mostly schoolchildren. And the source of the strain is school strawberry compote, or rather, cheap frozen berries from China. nine0005

The Monin family learned about the German epidemic twice. First – from TV news, then – from personal experience. Three-year-old Sonya became the first victim of norovirus. A day later, vomiting and fever appeared in my sister, then in Irina and her husband. At first, the family was sure that it was simple food poisoning, but when the injections did not help, they had to call an ambulance.

Rumors about a strange and dangerous virus quickly spread throughout the entire regional center of Panino. But even faster, the strain increased the number of its carriers. Similar to the events in Germany, the main victims of Norwalk in the Voronezh region were children. Kindergarten became the first target of norovirus. A few days later, elementary school students developed symptoms. As a result, 5 people were hospitalized. A total of 13 are infected, only two adults. nine0005

12 children aged 7 to 14 became victims of Norwalk in the Kamchatka region. As in the Voronezh region, the symptoms were sudden and severe. And so much so that the parents did not have time to get to school.

In a school in the Kamchatka Territory, as in a kindergarten in Voronezh, auditors revealed violations of sanitary standards. But the main question is where is the source? Let’s assume that norovirus got here along with the lost shipments of berries from China. For Kamchatka – nothing strange, but for the black earth Voronezh lands – the version is unthinkable. Or it was like that, when for labor exploits in the fields they gave the Hero of Socialist Labor. The Paninsky district breaks records in this sense – in honor of the legendary Soviet collective farmers, the Alley of Glory was built here. nine0005

It turns out that Chinese strawberries are not so bad. Supermarkets are littered with imported vegetables that have been traditionally and successfully grown here for decades. The difference, for example, between Russian and Turkish cucumbers can be seen with the naked eye – the imported product is unnaturally pale and smooth, but this does not bother buyers, overseas fruits and vegetables are cheaper, and therefore more popular.

Sergey Petrovich is a representative of a dying class of domestic agricultural producers. For nine years he was engaged in apples, and this year, having collected a record harvest, he heard terrible news from wholesalers – they no longer need his services and goods. Three tons of healthy, tasty, and, most importantly, safe apples, the businessman is now selling for a penny. Literally. nine0005

The chain is like this. Buying apples for next to nothing, stores sell them for more than imported ones. The people save money – take, for example, Polish ones, our apples go out, farmers go bankrupt.

Given the fact that 80 tons of infected strawberries from China are now lost in the country, the farmer’s proposal is more than relevant. After all, the sanitary doctors themselves are not sure that they will find the berry. Moreover, the appeals of journalists to start searching are generally considered frivolous.

As an option – warn the heads of retail outlets about a dangerous batch of Chinese berries. But this idea also does not find the support of auditors …

If we assume that outbreaks of norovirus near Voronezh and in the Kamchatka Territory are associated with a berry from China, the situation can already be called critical. Somewhere they sell infected berries, they won’t look for it, they won’t report the danger to the store either. It’s a paradox – we won’t be able to prove that an imported product contains viruses either.

It turns out that only an outbreak or an epidemic can be a signaling agent of a virus… Such is the litmus test for officials and auditors.

No one guarantees that tomorrow some Chinese or Turkish or Polish supplier will not start a new bombardment with contaminated goods. If a dangerous batch of imported products does not get to Western doctors, they simply will not know about it in Russia. nine0005
