Rules for safe behavior on the water during the freezing period
Freezing is the time when ponds, rivers, lakes are covered with ice. Most often, people find themselves on ice when they cross water bodies to shorten their path, or go on winter fishing.
Any stay on the ice is always fraught with danger. Therefore, it is necessary to strictly observe safety measures on the ice.
Remember that it is possible to cross the ice safely if it is at least 7 cm thick, and people should walk at a distance of 5 – 6 m from each other. The same distance must be observed in oncoming traffic. If a group of 4 – 5 people has gathered, then you can move on ice, the thickness of which is not less than 15 cm.
It is safest to cross a reservoir on transparent ice when it has a greenish or bluish tint. When driving on ice, avoid dangerous places and areas covered with a thick layer of snow. Particular care must be taken in places where there is a fast current, under bridges, in places where bushes, reeds and some foreign objects are frozen, because. there is an increased risk of failure. It is necessary to bypass sections of reservoirs where warm water or industrial waste from enterprises drains, where groundwater comes out and there are gullies;
When crossing the ice on skis, you must use the paved track. The distance between skiers should be 5 – 6 meters.
If you fall through the ice, you should:
– do not panic, do not make sudden movements, stabilize your breathing;
– spread your arms to the sides and try to cling to the ice edge, giving the body a horizontal position in the direction of the current;
– try to carefully put your chest on the edge of the ice and throw one and then the other leg on the ice;
– if the ice has survived, rolling slowly crawl towards the shore;
– crawl in the direction where you came from, because the ice here has already been tested for strength.
To help someone who has fallen through the ice, you need :
– Immediately shout that you are going to help. Approaching the polynya should only be crawling, spreading your arms wide. It is best to put plywood, a board or skis under you to increase the area of \u200b\u200bsupport and crawl on them. Do not crawl to the very edge, otherwise you will find yourself in icy water.
– arm yourself with any long stick, plank, pole or rope. You can knit together scarves, belts or clothes;
– crawling, while spreading arms and legs wide, carefully move towards the opening, pushing rescue equipment in front of him;
– stop a few meters from a person in the water, throw him a rope, edge of clothing, a stick or a pole. Throwing tied belts, scarves or ropes should be 3-4 meters away. The board, skis need to be pushed, otherwise you can hit the rescued with a careless throw;
– carefully pull the victim onto the ice and crawl out of the danger zone together. It is better if the rescuer is not alone. Then two or three people, taking each other by the legs, lie down on the ice in a chain and move towards the breach. It is necessary to act quickly, decisively, but deliberately;
– take the victim to a warm place and help him. Remove wet clothes, vigorously rub the body (until the skin turns red) with a cloth or hands soaked in alcohol or vodka, give the victim warm tea to drink. In no case should you give alcohol to the victim – in such cases it can be fatal.
Remember! The time a person spends in ice water is extremely limited.
At a water temperature of plus 3 – 4 degrees, after 15 minutes, loss of consciousness may occur, and then death.
Having given the victim an improvised means of salvation, it is necessary to pull him out of the water onto the ice and crawl to the shore. Immediately cover the rescued from the wind, deliver as soon as possible to a warm place, grind, change into dry linen and drink tea.
Rules of conduct on ice
Do not go out on thin, unstrengthened ice.
Do not gather in groups on separate areas of ice.
Do not approach gullies, cracks, ice holes.
Do not sled or ski down steep banks onto thin ice.
Do not cross the pond on ice in prohibited areas.
Do not go out on the ice at night and in poor visibility.
Do not go out on the ice on motorcycles, cars outside the crossings.
THINGS TO KNOW:
– Ice at least 10 cm thick in fresh water and 15 cm thick in salt water is considered safe for humans.
-In the mouths of rivers and channels, the strength of ice is weakened. Ice is unstable in places of fast currents, gushing springs and runoff waters, as well as in areas where aquatic vegetation grows, near trees, bushes, and reeds.
-If the air temperature is above 0 degrees for more than three days, then the strength of the ice is reduced by 25%.
– The strength of ice can be determined visually: blue ice is strong, white ice is 2 times less strong, dull white or with a yellowish tinge is unreliable.
IF THERE IS A TROUBLE:
What to do if you fall into cold water:
-Don’t panic, don’t make sudden movements, save your breath.
-Spread your arms to the sides and try to cling to the edge of the ice, giving the body a horizontal position.
-Call for help: “Drowning!”
-Try to carefully put your chest on the edge of the ice and throw one and then the other leg on the ice.
-If the ice has survived, rolling, slowly crawl in the direction from which you came, because here the ice has already been tested for strength.
– Without stopping, go to the nearest housing, wring out clothes and
– You can rest only in a warm room.
IF YOU NEED YOUR HELP:
-Ask someone to call an ambulance and rescuers, or call them yourself on the cell phone “112”.
– Arm yourself with any long stick, plank, pole or rope.
– Can be tied together scarves, belts or clothes.
