What Our Families Say…
“The staff are aware of every child’s needs and certain likes and dislikes”
The centre and their team are very community minded and always aspire to assist with the greater food of the whole family, not just the individual student. They adapt their care to ensure comfort and happiness for every individual in the room.
Billie, Busy Bees at Diggers Rest (VIC)
“Amazing staff and my daughter has flourished so much in the past month “
Everyone knows her name and says hi and bye to her, staff go above and beyond to develop a bond with her and make drop off easier. She has settled in already when she hadn’t settled after 4 months in her previous day care centre
Charley, Busy Bees at Moreton Bay (QLD)
“We have been very happy with the Service and care provided to our son “
The staff provide a fun, safe and educational environment to help our little man grow…it’s great we receive updates and pictures throughout the day so we can see him play, learn and grow.
Vincenzo, Busy Bees at Balcatta
“The educators are lovely and keep me updated through the transition to day care for my daughter”
We felt supported and felt as though advice given in relation to her adjustment period was great and meant she was happy and transitioned well.

Pancake sign stickers are available to adhere to your sign. After this year, we hope to go back to the 4th Saturday in October and you’ll be able to peel this year’s sticker off. Reminder to be sure to place 6’ from the road so the City/Township don’t pick them up for being in the right-of-way!
Frank Perez announced we will be placing stickers in dictionary/thesaurus today and Rotarians are needed to sign up for distributing the books to schools. We need 2 Rotarians per school, one who serves as the leader who will contact school to coordinate a time to distribute. The goal is to distribute by the end of October.
Crissy Allums announced this year’s Operation Warm drive raised $9,395 to purchase 427 coats. Last year we were able to donate 637 coats but the cost per coat has increased and last year we had some unusual donations. Crissy said we will still take donations to cover short fall if anyone is interested in giving.

Our speakers today were from Kettering Health Network, Taira Suchland & Denise Berthold. Denise has been a nurse for over 6 years, and Tara has been a nurse for over 18 years.
Denise shared information about a ew program provided by the Kettering Health Network. She and Taira are traveling to various groups to educate about and promote the program. Denise was in Rotary Interact while in high school and hopes to find time to join Rotary again in the future.
Most important part of Healthcare team is YOU. You have the ultimate choice when it comes to the health of your body.
Evolution of healthcare – in 1930’s doctors made house calls and one doctor did it all. By 1961 half of the doctors were general practitioners, but now only 1/3 are which has led to
fragmented healthcare. That causes more challenges as all doctors may not share information, and your care can get confusing.
Denise encouraged all to take charge of your health –
- Be your own advocate
- Be proactive
- Become an educated consumer
- Prepare for your medical appointments – list of questions, keep a diary/log
- Know your options and make informed decisions
- Establish advance directives – know who you entrust with your care if you can’t take care of yourself
Taira said the Healthcare Navigator Program is helping people take charge of their health. They can help appoint someone to accompany you to your appointments. Independent health advocate are available for a cost, but the
Healthcare Navigator Program is FREE from Kettering Health Network. All work is done over the phone or email.
Example – need a new healthcare provider, on hold forever and then find out they are not taking new patients. The Navigator program allows you to tell them what you want, they will then spend the time to ask questions and research to find one that will work for you. Find out wait times, accepting new patients, and if they take your insurance, etc.
KHN backing helps get them through the door.
They will refer to KHN first, but if needs can’t be filled with Kettering, will still assist you to find what you need.
They can help find specialties, mental health services (may need referral).
3 people total in the office. Not big call center. They are there for personalized care.
Greeters next week are Kelly McDonald and Jennifer Gibbs. And our speaker is Frank Meier with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Good afternoon everyone. I want to share my feedback and thus recommend in the future to those who are looking for a reliable, comfortable, responsible, and most importantly kindergarten, where the basis is love and an individual approach to each baby and baby. We visit this garden for 5 months, my baby started when he was 1.4 months old. At this time, we ourselves eat, ask for a potty, chat without closing our mouths, and we get a lot of positive things in return. My baby, the group becomes a habit and with pleasure. I am sooo grateful to the staff, and in particular to the cook, for always not only fresh and tasty food, but also for their attentive attitude towards the children. I am also very grateful to the teacher, you put into my child something that, unfortunately, I cannot do myself, because I work, and my heart is quite calm for its development. A deep bow to the nanny for the tremendous help to the teacher. The atmosphere in the garden One big, friendly family. Thank you director

what to say about the kindergarten, it’s just awful! it’s not even a “one”, but just a zero!!! Most likely, my review will be deleted by the owner of this kindergarten, but I will still speak out. Upon entering the kindergarten, we were promised mountains of gold: does he not go to the potty on his own? – Let’s learn!!! Can’t eat on his own? – It’s not a problem!!! And after two weeks – oh, and your child pees in his pants, so we will keep him in a diaper all day (because we have carpets everywhere, how to wash them ???), never changing this same diaper. And he doesn’t even know how to eat with you, and we have five of them, we don’t have time to feed everyone. Educators work in shifts, one day, another day, imagine what happens to them during a 12-hour stay in a group with 15-20 kids aged 10 months to 3 years??? Naturally, they don’t want to deal with children, and if the child cries and requires additional attention, then, parents, get ready, after a couple of weeks of “adaptation” (which will result in 2-3 thousand for you), you will be politely informed that you are not suitable for them, look, they say, for another garden, but rather sit at home. The only plus is the luxurious apartments. But, unfortunately, this plus does not in any way cover the disregard for children …. (((And recently I heard about this kindergarten and such that after a walk the teacher forgot the child on the street …. HOW ??? Dear leaders, this Kindergarten! You urgently need to change the composition of employees and take people with a pedagogical education, a preschool profile, as well as those who will be responsible and reverent towards our children. Parents, bypass this institution. Of course, if you do not have a perfect child, which will not distract the attention of educators from other matters

Extremism for the smallest. Why do employees of the Dagestan Center “E” go to kindergarten

Employees of the Flowers of Life children’s center in Makhachkala complain that the police do not let them work: they break into the building, scare the children, take their belongings and detain their parents. “Mediazona” tells how the operatives of the Center “E” actually put an entire kindergarten on a preventive record.
On the afternoon of January 24, a tall middle-aged man approached the gate of a private house on 2nd Proektnaya Street in Makhachkala. He pressed the video call button, waited for an answer, and explained that he had come to pick up Shamil (the boy’s name has been changed), one of the boys attending the Flowers of Life child care center located in this house. Employees of the center – in fact, it’s just a private kindergarten – opened the door for him.
After that, a dozen armed men in black jackets quickly entered the courtyard of the house – later it turns out that they are operatives from the Center “E”. They try to stay in the blind spot of the video surveillance camera installed in the kindergarten. Passing a small courtyard with a playground, the men went to the entrance to the building.
The camera footage shows how the operatives, having got inside the building, filed into the children’s room with a green flowered carpet. One of the policemen pulled a low chair to a round table and sat down; the rest went to the corners. Thus, an operational event began in the Flowers of Life, as a result of which the employees of the Center E will take away coloring books, notebooks and books from the kindergarten, and also detain several adults along with children.
Five year olds
The family of literature teacher Bella Magomedova opened “Flowers of Life” in 2014. The woman runs the business with her four daughters. Magomedova’s husband, a disabled person of the first group without hands and feet, went missing 12 years ago. Relatives believe that the security forces killed him, suspecting him of having links with the militants. After the disappearance of the man, all his daughters were registered with the Ministry of Internal Affairs. As lawyer Aida Kasimova, who represents the interests of the children’s center, explains, this was due to suspicions about their father.
For the first time, the police appeared at the children’s center on the opening day and tried to disrupt it, says one of the Flowers of Life employees, who asked not to be named. “At nine in the morning, two parents and three children came to us. The juvenile affairs inspector rushed at them, saying that her boss did not allow us to work, although everything was agreed with us. Then she called for reinforcements, masked people with machine guns arrived, filmed their parents on the phone, ”recalls the woman.
“Flowers of Life” is not the only private kindergarten in Makhachkala whose administration complains about pressure from the “E” Center. In November 2014, the police came to the children’s club “Care” and demanded to stop work because the owners of the institution wear hijabs. Employees of the Happy Baby Kindergarten also spoke about similar problems at that time.
Lawyer Aida Kasimova suggests that these cases may also be related to professional accounting: “If a person is registered, he starts to have big problems.”
A few days later, the security forces came again, this time they identified themselves as employees of the District Department of Internal Affairs for the Sovetsky District of Makhachkala. According to Mediazona’s interlocutor, men in uniform “pulled the parents” who brought the children, shouted at them, demanding to take the children from the center, and also tried to detain her and put her in a police car. When leaving, the policemen promised that they would not let the center work. Their visits began to be repeated every month.
“They came in different ways – sometimes they surrounded the house in cars, sometimes they jumped over the fence like thieves, climbed in, frightened the children. They put everyone in the corners, they didn’t let anyone move, they walked around shod, rude. The goal is for us to close,” the woman says.
In May 2017, several special vehicles from the city gas service, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Emergency Situations drove up to the entrance to the Flowers of Life; an employee of the center then counted 18 cars. According to her, the services were led by a local juvenile inspector. He demanded to open the gates and allow them to freely enter the territory of the center. “Of course, we had to let them in, but after checking we didn’t find any problems with gas. All this in order to scare the children, ”concludes the employee.
A few days after this incident, the investigators demanded that the administration of the center provide a list of all the children who visit the institution. In response to the request of the lawyer Aida Kasimova to make a specific request, referring to the laws, the security forces brought sheets with the name “Kinship Base”.
A copy of such a sheet is at the disposal of Mediazona; it proposes to list the parents, brothers, sisters, wife and children of the “defendant” and leave all the contact details of relatives and information about their professions. The questionnaire ends with the questions “Who do you live with at your place of residence and for how long?”
“That’s the ‘figurant’, it’s about a child. Can a three-year-old child be a figurant in some way? What about a five year old? It’s just ridiculous,” Kasimov’s lawyer throws up his hands. She adds that in their inquiries, the police did not refer to any provision of the law that would oblige the center to provide such information.
What is “profuchet”
The practice of putting people on preventive records in the Ministry of Internal Affairs under the categories of “extremist” or “religious extremist” is widespread in the North Caucasus. As a rule, adherents of the fundamentalist movements of Islam, which are not officially banned in Russia, but are condemned by some spiritual leaders, fall into such a register.
Profit accounting is regulated by internal orders of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, it is not provided for by federal laws. The Ministry of Internal Affairs claims that people included in such a list are not limited in their rights, however, they admit that they are under additional surveillance. The persons on the list, in turn, complain about total control by the police, difficulties in finding a job, unjustified detentions at checkpoints and on the streets, and restrictions on freedom of movement. In addition, many, according to them, are on the list for absolutely no reason – because of a long beard, visits to Salafi mosques, or relatives who are suspected of something.
In March 2017, the head of the Dagestan police, Magomedov, announced that the registration for the “extremist” category in the republic was canceled, and all cards were destroyed. Human rights activists claim that this is a pure formality, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs continues to monitor the persons involved in the lists, using the law “On operational-search activity.”
“They seized parents with their children”
The visit of Center E operatives in January of this year turned out to be the longest – they stayed in the Flowers of Life for about ten hours. Most of this time, the police described and confiscated children’s things. The protocol drawn up following the results of the inspection states that “a number of educational literature of Islamic content” were seized – the books “Parables from the Koran”, “Tales of Muslim peoples”, “965 days with the beloved prophet”, “99 most beautiful names of Allah”, as well as the Koran and Al-Azkar (a collection of hadiths mentioning Allah). The operatives also took with them 35 notebooks and several coloring books, the contents of which are not mentioned in the protocol.
At about six o’clock in the evening, the interlocutor of “Mediazona” recalls, the parents began to return for the children; The police began to detain both of them. “They grabbed the parents, it turns out, along with the children, because there was no one to leave them here, and they were taken to the department. There they were asked for explanations, photographed, fingerprinted, and intimidated. They said – they don’t teach anything good here, terrorists work here, almost a terrorist kindergarten, take the children, otherwise we will put everyone on a professional record, ”says an employee of Flowers of Life.
In addition to parents and children, the operatives of the Center “E” also detained employees of the “Flowers of Life” several times; they were also photographed and their passports were taken away. “They promise to distribute the photos if they work here. They intimidate, they say – run away from here, ”the woman says. On several occasions, the police sent requests to Flowers of Life (available at Mediazona) demanding that “in connection with the need to provide information about persons attending kindergarten”, as well as compiling lists of employees with all their data.
After a ten-hour visit by operatives in January, the administration of “Flowers of Life” decided to go to court to appeal against the decision to conduct operational-search measures. An employee of the center says that the operative of the Center “E”, who was present at that inspection, threatened her right in the courthouse. “He approached me, began to be rude, demanded that we withdraw the complaint. I refused. He said it would be even worse,” she recalls.
Then the meeting did not take place, and already on May 31, the day after this conversation, the police again drove up to the building of the children’s center – this time they did not try to get inside, but, as the interlocutor of Mediazona recalls, they detained the parents at the exit and took them to the police department.
“Our city is small, the competition is big. Of course, our parents are running away from us, in fact, the business is now destroyed, ”the employee notes. According to her, the owners of the center do not have any conflicts with the operatives of the Center “E” and she can only guess about the exact reasons: “Well, probably because we wear a hijab.” “Yes, they do not motivate their actions. I asked them – what should we do, what are your requirements? They don’t answer,” Kasimova agrees.
