Early childhood center greensboro: Early Childhood Center
Early Childhood | templeemanuel
At the Early Childhood Engagement Center at Temple Emanuel, children learn through experience. They touch, move, listen, see and hear. These experiences allow children to construct knowledge in a variety of ways.
Children at the Early Childhood Engagement Center explore math, science, literature, and the world around them. Most of all children at the Early Childhood Engagement Center at Temple Emanuel learn about Judaism and how joyful it is.
Our pre-school is inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy. This methodology has been studied and modeled worldwide. Two key aspects of a Reggio Emilia program are building from what children already know and creating learning spaces that stimulate and incorporate natural elements.
Our Mission:
At the Early Childhood Engagement Center at Temple Emanuel, it is our mission to create meaningful relationships. This is achieved by providing a safe and nurturing Jewish early childhood environment that is inspired by the philosophy of Reggio Emilia.
Program Philosophy
The Early Childhood Engagement Center at Temple Emanuel believes that preschool should be an adventure in learning. We strive to help children develop confidence, independence, and a connection to the Jewish world.
We believe every child is remarkable and we strive to create opportunities for each individual to experience discovery, joy, challenge, and accomplishment.
Goals that help achieve this include:
-
promoting self-esteem and confidence
-
increasing problem-solving skills through cooperation and other pre-social behavior
-
developing fantasy play that facilitates imagination and creative thinking processes
-
fostering awareness of the world by participating in a variety of experiences
-
providing an environment that gives children opportunities to learn by doing –
-
moving from concrete hands-on experiences to more abstract concept development
Reggio Emilia Philosophy
The Reggio Emilia philosophy and approach to the education of young children began in Reggio Emilia, Italy in the late 1940’s – early 1950’s. The late Loris Malaguzzi was the principal innovator and leader in this approach. Over the years he guided the parents and teachers in Reggio Emilia in the development of the Reggio philosophy. It is founded in the idea that education is based on relationships–it encompasses the nature of children, learning, and teaching.
The Reggio Emilia approach is built upon a solid foundation of connected philosophical principles and extensive experience. Educators in Reggio Emilia have been inspired by many early childhood psychologists and philosophers, such as Dewey, Piaget, Vygotsky, Gardner, and Bruner.
Therefore the Reggio approach is not an early childhood method or set curriculum, but rather a deep knowledge in theory and community-constructed values that have been and are continuously being translated into high-quality early childhood practices. As a result, educational theory and practice in Reggio Emilia is strongly connected.
The Reggio approach seeks to help children connect to the knowledge they already have, expand upon that base of knowing, and to internalize the skills of observing, communicating, questioning, and information gathering. Connections to art, music, movement, and nature are built during this process. Not only are the teachers and children a part of this process, but families and the community are involved as well.

Feedback from our students
Maria.
Pupil Potap 3 years old (Greensboro)
The child was 3 years old when a diagnosis was made in the kindergarten with which I did not agree. Therefore, I decided to hire a speech therapist so that he can test the child and tell us what our problems are. I asked for help in the selection of a speech therapist in your center. The specialist was found very quickly. My child does not make good contact with adults, but Marina Mikhailovna was able to win him over from the first second. She gave us a conclusion that was different from the previous one. She gave us recommendations on how to work with the child, how best to adapt it. We are very pleased that the child left the class in good disarray, agreed to work out for 2-3 months. Thanks for your center.
Tatyana student Polina 4 years old (Greensboro)
We really liked the speech therapist of your center, professionally approached our problem, very attentively. Immediately contact was made with the child. Thanks a lot!
Ekaterina student Polina, 6 years old (Greensboro)

Roles
,0004 My work as a VPI teacher is to teach students basic literacy and numeracy, and to promote their social and emotional learning. I want my students to learn autonomy in the classroom so they can start taking care of themselves and problem solving. I love to read and play with my students. I will work with Mrs. Fargo to ensure that all of our students receive the best possible education.
Occupation
I attended James Madison University for both undergraduate and graduate studies. I received my master’s degree in education in 2014. I have been teaching VPI at Arlington since 2016. Hoffman Boston is my favorite place. 😊
Personal interest
I enjoy going to the beach with my family, hanging out with friends or spending time alone at home.
Literary connection
One of my many favorite books is Brown bear Brown bear What do you see? This was my favorite book as a child and I still love reading it. I love the different animals in this story, especially the unexpected colors.
Miss Elaine
Special Education Teacher
Raleigh
Hello! My name is Elaine Fargo. My role as a VPI Special Education Educator includes providing tailor-made instruction for students with special needs, as well as ensuring that students have access to the general education curriculum. I will be teaching alongside Ms. Peterson, providing the modifications and adaptations students with special needs need for academic, functional, and social progress, and working with students to achieve IEP goals. I am delighted with the learning experience students will have by exploring hands-on learning opportunities as well as learning about the world around them. Music, dance, art, storytelling and games are fun ways to learn, combined with literacy, math and science in a supportive and caring environment.
Occupation
My first teaching experience was at the American School for the Deaf (ASD) in West Hartford, Connecticut. It was the first school for the deaf in America and had a rich history of deaf culture. I worked at ASD as a teaching assistant for the deaf for 11 years with a philosophy of total communication. An interesting fact is that I found out that my mother’s foster grandparents attended RAS after I started working there. I then worked at a special education school in Washington DC as a teaching assistant and translator for the deaf, and then I went to Arlington Public Schools and worked in a communications program for eight years and a year in a Life Skills program. This is my first year with VPI; I love children and I am looking forward to this school year. I attended George Mason University and received a BA in Elementary and Special Education, EDSE.
Personal interest
My interests include enjoying nature, forests, rivers, waterfalls and beaches. I love gardening and harvesting. I like to sing and I have taken up a new hobby of learning to play the piano.
Literary connection
My favorite book is Velvet by Don Freeman. I find it to be a warm and caring book that brings a teddy bear to life looking for a place to call home. His experiences come alive at night as he explores the world around him. Although he passed by more times than he wanted to, he was eventually adopted by a caring girl who was so excited that she bought him, took him home and fell in love with him. Although he was missing one button, it was an easy fix for the girl, who happily sewed a new button onto his jumpsuit. I love this story because it comes to life, teaches good social-emotional values, and leaves the reader feeling warm.

Roles –
my role as a teacher in all my studies From greeting students in the hallway every morning and asking them if they brought lunch or are they going to buy it, to guiding bus passengers to the buses. These everyday interactions build relationships and trust. I help support students in their learning and together we build a community. I lead students to independence and help them gain the endurance for a full day of work and play.
Occupation
I have been working in Arlington Public Schools for 5 years. My first position was as an After-Hour Program Officer (2015). I have worked in this position at various schools. In 2018, I worked as a long-term assistant at Hoffman-Boston Elementary. During my time at Hoffman-Boston, I was offered the position of Special Education Assistant for Early Childhood Education. I am currently an assistant vice president at Hoffman-Boston and have been a co-teacher for two years now. I find working with children fun and rewarding. I like that no day is repeated. I was also impressed by their endless energy, honesty, creativity and flexibility. My students motivate me to be better.

Alexandra.tagle teacher at VPI, I believe my role is to facilitate learning and research. I am working to create a supportive environment where students can become kind, independent, and persistent thinkers! I also believe in the importance of celebrating and exploring the diverse backgrounds of my students and their families.
Occupation
I grew up in Arlington and studied in Nottingham, Williamsburg and Yorktown. I have a BA in Psychology and Spanish from George Washington University. After college, I worked as an ABA therapist for children with autism for two years. Working with the children was so rewarding that I switched to APS as an assistant teacher at Jamestown ES Kindergarten. Working in the classroom, I received a master’s degree in elementary education from Marymount University. I started teaching Kindergarten at Hoffman-Boston in 2008 and moved to Pre-K three years later. I love being a star!
Personal interest
In my free time I like to lead an active lifestyle – I run, do yoga and go for walks. I also enjoy baking and spending time with my family. I have two brothers and my parents still live here in Arlington.
Literary connection
I decided to share Anna Llenas’ book “The Colored Monster”. A colored monster wakes up one day confused and doesn’t understand why. The friend explains that all his emotions are mixed. She helps Color Monster sort out his feelings by sharing his emotions. Each has its own color: yellow glows like the sun and symbolizes happiness; red symbolizes the anger we sometimes feel when life seems unfair. At the end of the story, the Color Monster learns that he feels much better now that he has dealt with his emotions. I love how this story describes feelings and presents them in colors. We teach students social-emotional skills in Pre-K and this story is an age-appropriate and appropriate way to identify and describe emotions.

4 I joined HFB last school year as a Pre-K Assistant. This was my first Pre-K experience. Lots of fun and learning! I have worked with APS since 2005. I started as an administrative assistant at Barcroft Elementary and then started working with students. This is what I really liked, which is why I became a Special Education Assistant after taking the Para Pro exam. Prior to joining Pre-K, I supported grades three through five in subject areas (mathematics, social studies, science, reading, and language arts). I became a familiar, friendly face as we spent a lot of time together, even after school. I supported the Homework Club by providing extra help with math and reading.
Personal interest
Here’s a little more about me: I have three sons who are in APS. The youngest of them graduated in 2017. I support national championships and enjoy watching baseball. I also like art. I took clay slab making classes at Kenmore High School. Making art out of clay is my favorite pastime! Another hobby is making Christmas decorations and cross stitching. Reading is another interest of mine.
Literary connection
I have read a lot of children’s books. Some of my favorite books for beginning readers are Goodnight Gorilla and In A People House. I have read many series of books such as The Spiderwick Chronicles, The Magical Tree House, Percy Jackson and Artemis Fowl. I am currently reading Lincoln’s Trooper and Henry Suidam’s Letters on the Civil War. I chose this book because history also interests me.

Roles
Hello! My name is Helena Taylor and my role as a VPI teacher is to support the education of my students in every possible way. My goal is for all of my students to make progress over the course of the year, from being shy to working with friends, from trying to hold a pencil correctly to drawing pictures with lots of detail, from not knowing the difference between numbers and letters, to recognizing many uppercase and lowercase letters. (including their sounds) and numbers.
Occupation
I have a master’s degree in elementary education from the Jana Evangelista Purkyne University in the Czech Republic. I taught there for 4 years before coming to the USA. Here I started teaching preschool at a private school and fell in love with working with toddlers. In 2009, I joined the VPI team at Hoffman-Boston, first as an assistant and then, after obtaining my license to teach in Virginia, as a teacher. I am lucky to work with such a wonderful group of enthusiastic teachers. Become a star!!!
Personal interest
In my free time I go for walks in nature. I’ve been hiking, jogging and biking quite often with my family and friends during the pandemic. I recently started playing salty balls and it’s a lot of fun. On rainy days, I like to solve riddles, listen to books by ear and cook with my daughter.
Link to Literacy
I like a lot of early childhood books. I chose Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, written by Bill Martin Jr. and John Archambault and illustrated by Lois Ehlert. This book is a great example of how learning the alphabet can be fun. If you’ve never seen Scholastic’s Chicka Chicka Boom Boom video, you should watch it with your preschooler. The melody is very catchy and you will be singing it for the rest of the day. Just like I do with my students when I teach them to recognize lowercase letters.
