who we are

Courtney’s Drop In Kids Care is family owned and operated. As a mother of four young children myself, I understand the needs and demands of an active family! I can relate to parents needing a convenient, reliable, safe, positive child care option for their family. As a mother, I also understand the natural curiosity and playfulness of young children! Both parents and children need an outlet and healthy time to get away and play! My hope is that parents use our facility for various needs. You may want to run errands, attend appointments, have a date night with your spouse or friends, or simply take well deserved time to pamper yourself. We are here to help you! There is no appointment or reservation necessary. Your children will have fun while they are here, and you’ll be confident your most precious gifts are well taken care of while they are in our care.

Children have always been an important part of my life. My sister, Courtney, was seven years younger than me, and I helped care for her while growing up. I’ve cared for many different families over the years in various capacities. I even worked in a drop-in child care facility as my very first job!

50-year-old bathtub murder case solved in the US

Watoga County (North Carolina, USA) investigators solve the Durham family murder mystery case that occurred on February 3, 1972 in Boone: 44-year-old Virginia Durham , her husband, 51-year-old Bryce Durham, and their 18-year-old son, Bobby Durham, were found dead in the bathroom of their own home. Now, law enforcement officers have managed to establish that four members of the Dixie mafia group, based in the state of Georgia, were involved in the crime, writes Yahoo.News.

To date, only one of the suspects is alive – 81-year-old Billy Wayne Davis. He is currently serving a life sentence for murder at the Augusta State Medical Prison in Georgia. He has been incarcerated since 1986, according to Department of Corrections records.

The rest of the gang – Billy Sunday Birt, Bobby Jean Gaddis and Charles David – were killed, according to a Feb. 8 press release from the Watoga County Sheriff. At the same time, it is alleged that their murder was contracted, but law enforcement officers do not know the name of the customer. However, the Watoga County Sheriff’s Office listed them among the remaining suspects.

The mysterious circumstances of the murder

The Observer newspaper wrote that in addition to the 18-year-old son, the Durhams also had a 19-year-old daughter, Ginny Sue Hall, who lived six kilometers from her parents’ house with her husband Troy Hall. On the night of the murder of loved ones, the couple was at home when they received an unexpected phone call from Virginia Durham, who was in a panic and asked for help.

Troy Hall admitted that he barely recognized her voice and thought it was a prank. However, this call seriously disturbed his wife. The couple went to visit Ginny Sue Hall’s parents, but their car wouldn’t start. Then the couple turned to a neighbor, private detective Cecil Small, for help, he agreed to give them a ride.

When they arrived, according to The Observer, Troy Hall and Cecil Small saw a frightening sight: the telephone wire had been torn from the wall, the rooms were spattered with blood, the TV was on, but its sound was drowned out by the murmur of running water. Following the noise, the men found the bodies of Virginia, Bryce, and Bobby Durham in the overflowing bathroom.

At 10:50 pm, Troy Hall called the sheriff’s office and reported the murder of three members of the Durham family, wrote The Observer. Numerous police officers quickly arrived on the scene. During their inspection of the house, they found, among other things, a half-eaten baked chicken on the kitchen table, as well as a bag filled with hundreds of dollars – it remained untouched. Other things also did not interest the criminals.

Investigators said the killers used a green and white SUV that Bryce Durham took from the dealership where he worked to get home during a snow storm to escape the crime scene. According to operational data, the car drove away from the family’s house at 22:30. Hours later, New York City Highway Patrol found her on the side of the road several miles away with “headlights on, wipers slamming, doors shut, engine still running.”

Later, the Durham autopsy report showed that the woman died of asphyxiation while her husband and son drowned. Also, all three had rope marks on their necks.

Mystery solved

The crime was solved thanks to a tip from the Georgia Sheriff. The first major breakthrough in the triple homicide investigation came in 2019 when Shane Birt – the son of Dixie Mafia member Billy Sunday Birt – came to the White County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia to help with some research for a book about crimes in Georgia.

Shane Birt was close to his father and often visited him in prison. According to the Watoga County Sheriff’s Office, it was during one such visit that Birt told his son about “killing three people in the mountains of North Carolina during a heavy snowstorm, remembering that they almost got caught.” The White County Sheriff’s Office then immediately contacted Watoga County authorities. At that time, the Watoga County Sheriff’s Office realized that this tip “could be very important for the Durham case.”

“We immediately began investigating new leads and conducted face-to-face interviews with Billy Wayne Davis (the only surviving member of the Mafia) in September 2019, October 2020 and August 2021. It was these interviews that ultimately helped us determine who was responsible by corroborating the evidence. We are confident that we now know who committed these crimes,” said Watoga County Sheriff Len Hagaman.

Davis said that he and three other men were hired to kill in the mountains of North Carolina. Like Birt, Davis told investigators that a severe snowstorm hit the night of the crime and they were nearly caught. In addition, according to him, he was driving an SUV that was used for the escape, and Birt, Gaddis and Reed became the killers of the Durham family.

The remaining members of the Durham family spent decades looking for answers to questions that would help solve the case of the murder of their relatives. For a long time, this topic was the only thing Bryce Durham’s mother, Collie Durham, could talk about.

However, she died long before law enforcement solved the case. In November 2021, representatives from the Watoga County Sheriff’s Office met with the remaining members of the family to break the news. Jeannie Sue Hall, now called Jeannie Durham, was among them.

“I would like to thank all the people who have worked on my family’s cause for decades,” she said.

She noted that since 1972 law enforcement officers have sacrificed many days and weekends to work on the investigation of this case.
