Russian Town

The Russian-speaking community of Indianapolis consists of representatives from all the republics of the former Soviet Union. Our compatriots come to the United States for various purposes, among which the desire for self-realization and the achievement of well-being for their families are leading. The Russian-speaking community of Indianapolis is made up of educated, purposeful people who take an active life position.

As a rule, our compatriots quickly adapt to the United States and find themselves in a variety of fields, such as science, art, education, business … They successfully and quickly master the English language at a level suitable for work and daily communication, At the same time, for the most part, they try not to forget their native language and teach their children to use it.

It is estimated that more than 50 percent of immigrants from the former Soviet republics in the first 1-3 years of their lives in the United States acquire their own housing and, as a rule, in a good area. This important life stage becomes another important step towards the “American dream”. America is becoming a new home for the Russian-speaking community and a place where wishes come true – provided that certain efforts are made to fulfill these desires. American life values, such as family, home, children, friendship, parents, are close to the Russian-speaking community of Indianapolis, which creates the ground for establishing friendships not only in their own circle, but also with Americans. As a rule, there is a healthy curiosity in the Russian-speaking community, an interest in American culture and local traditions.

Very attractive to those who make up the Russian-speaking community of Indianapolis, the legitimacy of doing business in America, the ease of opening your own company, the absence of corruption. That is why many in our community register their own business (and not even one) and successfully run it. Popular areas of business that traditionally attract the Russian-speaking community of Indianapolis are real estate, legal services, and the insurance business. Many find themselves in the scientific field – in physics, mathematics, biotechnology, engineering, and especially many talented young compatriots work in the information technology industry (creating software products, web development, etc. ). Russian-speaking doctors, confirming their qualifications and undergoing proper training in America, accept patients in private clinics and large hospitals, open their own medical offices, and knowledge of the Russian language becomes a huge plus. It is worth noting that any business created by representatives of the Russian-speaking community of Indianapolis is in great demand, first of all by compatriots, especially those who, due to their short stay in the country, have not yet learned English enough. The services of Russian-speaking notaries and translators are also invariably popular.

Representatives of the Russian-speaking community of Indianapolis actively communicate in social networks, creating interest groups. Dating sites operate to find a soul mate among those who live in the United States and want to find their love. In the Russian-speaking community of Indianapolis, joint events are regularly held – thematic exhibitions, holidays, fairs, festivals, concerts, picnics. You can find entertainment for every taste. Everyone can demonstrate their skills or their products, communicate with compatriots, make new friends. When meeting you, they will definitely ask where exactly you came from, and they will be very happy if you turn out to be someone’s fellow countryman. There are churches for Russian speakers, where Orthodox Christians are happy to come on holidays and on ordinary days.

The Russian-language media works to keep the Russian-speaking community of Indianapolis up to date with important news and events, receive interesting entertainment content, and advertising messages about companies and their services in Russian. Headings with private ads and topical interviews are very popular. Coverage of the brightest success stories of our compatriots provides certain guidelines, an incentive to develop and achieve new life goals. Among the Russian-language press in the United States, the Russian City magazine stands out – an information center with wide opportunities for Russian advertising in Indianapolis, not only in print, but also on the russiantownindy. com website, in social networks and mobile applications. On all these platforms, Russian advertising in America is implemented in various formats: articles, videos, interviews, banners, modules – so take advantage of these wide opportunities! Offer your unusual format of Russian-language advertising in America. All means of Russian marketing in the USA help to promote Russian business, create a worthy image for it in business circles, and Russian City magazine plays a huge role in this. The creative approach makes Russian advertising in the US completely unique.

The Russian-speaking community of Indianapolis retains its love of travel and is happy to go on vacation to different parts of America to explore the sights that are not lacking here, and also visit other countries.

For those who experience temporary difficulties, there are support groups, including anonymous ones. Free courses are offered for learning English. Russian schools teach bilingual children not only general education subjects, but also creative classes, and at a very high level. There are studios, circles, sports sections with Russian-speaking teachers.

And it is impossible not to mention that the female half of the Russian-speaking community of Indianapolis stands out for its beauty, style, and grooming. A Russian-speaking girl can be immediately noticed in America by how good she looks and takes care of herself.

It is safe to say that, on the whole, the Russian-speaking community of Indianapolis is quite successfully merging into American life and at the same time trying to preserve its roots and traditions. The Russian-speaking diaspora of Indianapolis continues to grow, constantly replenished by incoming immigrants. Welcome to visit us!

Newsline Extra: Memoirs December 29, 2008

“Whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s” (Romans 14:8b).

1) Memory: Philip W. Riemann and Louise Baldwin Riemann.

Philip Wayne Rieman (age 64) and Louise Ann Baldwin Rieman (age 63), co-pastors of the Northview Brothers Church in Indianapolis, Indiana, died in a car accident on the morning of December 26th. The accident happened on the highway. north of Indianapolis as the couple was on their way to a family gathering.

Louise Ryman was an active member of the Mission Advisory Committee of the Brethren Church. The couple participated in the Sudan Assessment Team, which spent three weeks in southern Sudan in July-August. 2007 (http://sudan.brethren.org/blog/enten-eller). They were also part of an informal group that helped support the original proposal for a missionary initiative by the Brotherhood Church in Sudan.

The Rimans were the Brotherhood’s missionaries in Sudan from 1992-96, when they served as community development coordinators for the New Sudan Council of Churches and that council’s Peace Department. Their work on the council also took them to Uganda and Kenya.

In another church ministry, the Rimans pastored parishioners in Iowa and Indiana. They coordinated the church’s first work camp in Nigeria in 1985, which has since become an annual event. They have witnessed peace and resisted war taxes for decades, and were mentioned in The New York Times article on the National Campaign for a Peace Tax Fund on August 3, 2002. The article reported that they had given away about 60 percent of their taxes to civil rights and peace programs, despite threats from the Internal Revenue Service of bailing bank accounts, forfeiting wages, and forfeiting the family van. “Someday we will look back at the war the way we look at slavery,” Phil Ryman told the newspaper.

Phil Ryman was born in Chicago on August 27, 1944 to T. Wayne and Gwen Ryman. Louise Baldwin Ryman was born in Garkida, Nigeria on June 23, 1946. She was the daughter of Elmer and Fern Baldwin, who had been missionaries for the Brotherhood in Nigeria for a long time. Both graduated from Manchester College in North Manchester, Indiana, and Bethany Theological Seminary. They got married in 1967. They are survived by their children, son Ken and his wife Kate, and daughters Tina and Cheri.

Condolences to the family can be sent to Northview Church of the Brothers, 5555 E. 46th St., Indianapolis, IN 46226. A memorial service will be held at 11:31 a. m. December 765 at Northview Church.
