What travelers say

“Family. Awesome time”

Aug. 2017

The park is incredible. Old. Nostalgic. Clean. Things are not good, but it is calm and interesting. Inexpensive and great for all ages. The excursions were busy today and lines moderate although it didn’t take time to relax. The tours were longer than other parks. The food was amazing and the lake is beautiful. The water park was clean. It’s good to see Connaught, slow, that born updated. It takes time and since last year, there have been many changes for the better. Things, the trip takes time. There was a lovely wedding at the dock by the hotel today and they said there are frequent weddings there. Keep supporting this old time park. It was also nice to see dogs all over the animal park.

“some historic rides..”

July 2017

Connaught Lake Park is one of the oldest amusement parks in the country and they have great rides – the Meteor coaster, the fall beetle (one of only two in the world ! ), the devil’s lair (one of three as the pretzel rides never) and the carousel are all very rides. No doubt in your mind that this park was awesome once, but right now it’s the shadow of an amusement park. It feels like someone found an abandoned amusement park and turned it on. We were there on day 125 for an anniversary celebration with cake and balloons. The hotel was more or less empty. The rides are neat, iconic rides. All the ones I mentioned were great (although the meteor will beat you up) and there are others, tilt-chance (of) maintenance, flyer, train, bumper cars, skydiver, trabant, children’s land with several kid rides, including trips on a tree. And you get it all for $10 which is, overall, a great deal. They also have a small water park with a lazy river, a kids pool and two water slides. There were several lifeguards and the water was good and clean. The lockers at the water park were mostly not working. most of the keys ran out and places to put your money in runs out. There was only one operating bathroom and two of the stalls (in the building room) were broken. Nowhere was there any room change. There were no working water fountains. There are a few small catering, fries, fried dough, etc, but not much. There are about halfway full of carnie games and half empty. There is one shop where you can buy a souvenir or sweets. It’s part of the story, it’s worth stopping to ride the beetle alone in autumn, but I don’t know that I would spend most of the day in this hotel again. 🙂

This place is thankfully closed forever

July 2022 • Family fun

This place was horrible in the final years and thankfully it has closed. I hear these stories of the glory days of this park but in my time coming (2012) it has been at best, horrible and at worst, horrifically unsafe. Long live the Blue Streak (I never got to ride it, it was always under repair until it burned down in 2021)

The Grand Old Lady on the lake in her old age when her health was declining and finally the last year when she was forced to close. You will be fondly remembered. Dates visited, 1962-2020. Thanks to all the people who gave of their time and effort and money to try to keep her going, your efforts will not be forgotten and the Grand Old Lady appreciated it. We were all there to help her through her old age.

Visited in 2021 but what is there now has nothing to do with Conneaut Lake Park.
Watching intoxicated people throwing axes will never replace watching all the laughter and screams.

It was not meant to be anymore I guess and it is time to say goodbye. The party’s over and it’s time to go home.

Goodbye my old friend.

Thus is No longer an amusement park!

Aug. 2021 • For two

This is no longer an amusement park. The current owner has bulldozed the midway, destroyed the pony track that had been enjoyed by generations of children and is currently selling rides including the carousel and roller coaster!

Meh… don’t bother

Aug. 2021 • Family Fun

It is still very dirty, rundown, and not enough employees to run the rides. One employee was running back and forth between 2-3 kiddie rides… thankfully it wasn’t busy enough for kids too wait too long but it was still hard to know what rides were operational and which weren’t.
Staff was very friendly and seemed to be trying hard which why I rated this a 2, without them it would be a one.
Food was decent.

New owner has no nostalgia for the park.

July 2021

Most of the old park and buildings have been torn down. Pretty much the only structures still there is the carousel and the hamburger stand. The Devil’s Den is still there and they may be fixing the Bumper Car structure, but I’m not sure. They have replaced vintage rides with a couple new ones in Kiddie Land and dismantled others. It appears that all the pieces and parts are up for sale or sold. Even the clown from Kiddie Land entrance is gone and I’ve heard the ticket booth is for sale! Even if they didn’t want to use it, it could serve another purpose. Most upsetting is the dismantling of the Tumble Bug. Only 3 exist in the world. Very simple mechanical ride; one of the only ones I could still ride as an adult.
The park could have been updated and still kept some of its original character. I wonder if the Bessemer Railroad train has been sold?
Doesn’t seem like the new owner cares much for saving the character of the park…probably has ulterior motives. Hope I’m wrong. I do know that it needed updated and some structures probably torn. No more of the days of company picnics or picnics whatsoever. The park needs more seating, eating places, ice cream and shade trees.
We’ve been coming since the late 70’s.
I hope the Hotel survives. Not many original turn of the century places like that to stay.

Great value for the price

Sept. 2019 • Family fun

If you walk into Conneaut Lake Park and expect a new, modern amusement park you will be disappointed. But if you go into it knowing you are taking a step back in time you are sure to enjoy yourself. For only $10 it is worth the trip there. The rides are old and in desperate need of a paint job, but that didn’t stop them from being any less fun. Staff is kind, food is good and rides are fun. What else do you need?!

Memories

Aug. 2019 • For two

I hope this amusement park can make a comeback. I have so many great memories from when I was a kid whose family made a yearly visit. It was still fun for us to come back this year for a visit!

Pataskala, OH for many years now. It has been given more opportunities to stay open than other parks now closed had. I can see some improvements, and I am encouraged by that, but the park still has a way to go.

The grounds have always been fairly clean, and that tradition continues. The water tower at the back of the park NEEDS to be painted badly! I know money is tight, but this increasing rust year after year needs addressed. Several of the rides have been painted, and it does spruce up the feel of the place. A few more need painted along with some minor repairs to make them run better.

The star of the park is the Blue Streak roller coaster, which has been thrilling passengers since 1938. Some new wood has gone into the ride to make it better, but there are still some places along the track that needs wood replaced. A couple jolts along the route make for an unpleasant experience, and I am one who can take quite a bit of jolting on wooden coasters. Some of the boards appear to be in the early stages of rot, and that really needs to be addressed as it is a safety concern.

Employees are friendly enough, and the admission price is very affordable to families. Food prices are okay, and the quality of the food is better than many of the other parks out there.

I am glad to see the park management moving the park into the right direction. More time is needed as well as money before the park can be in its prime again. Despite my concerns, I still support the park because little places like these are gems amongst the larger corporate parks across the country.

Overall, it was not too bad a day.

I grew up in this park and am so upset at how run down it is. We had so much fun growing up as kids going to this park EVERY day. We were in walking distance so this was our back yard. I spent the day there this past Friday here with my kids and now 2 grandkids. They made the beach much smaller adding the boat docks. There are I think, 11 adult rides open in the big park and kiddieland was open with not enough workers. The rides are all in desperate need of some TLC. My son rode the Blue Streak and was terrified that it was going to break while on it. A lot of boards missing and looked pretty scary. I could not even watch. The ride passes were cheap but for the amount of rides it was ok. The park itself needs a lot of work. The sidewalks and walkways were pretty bad with tree roots pushing up through the concrete and made it very uneven. I’m surprised they haven’t done anything about that. Food prices were not cheap…over priced for what you get. 1 good thing, my son-in-law got in free with military id, so thanks for that! This could be a really nice family park if they put some TLC and money into it. I would love to see this come back to the way I know it was! I know that park and that area like the back of my hand, please fix it up!!!!!
