Child Care Costs

Once approved for CCAP, the child care provider should notify the family of its share of child care costs. Payments may be weekly, bi-weekly, monthly or other regular schedule. Multiple charges may make up a payment to a child care provider.

Tuition: The amount the child care provider charges for services. Typically, this is a weekly amount charged to all families. It’s important to note a family receiving CCAP cannot be charged more or less than private-pay families. If you suspect the tuition amount is not the same, please report this to the
Division of Regulated Child Care.

State Maximum Rate: The daily maximum rate the state will pay. This amount varies and families can find the value in the DCC-300, Kentucky Child Care Maximum Payment Rate Chart.

Co-pay: The portion of the state rate a family is responsible for paying based on income before taxes and family size. A co-pay breakdown can be found in
922 KAR 2:160 Child Care Assistance Program.

Overage: The amount left over if the child care provider charges more in tuition than the state maximum rate and any co-payment due. Depending on the amount of tuition, a family may not be responsible for an overage.

Enrollment/application/material fees, etc.: An additional fee a child care provider may charge for operating expenses. CCAP usually will not cover these additional optional expenses a child care provider may choose to charge. However, in some circumstances, the enrollment fee can be paid. Enrollment fees can be paid for KTAP or child care protection cases approved by DCBS Family Support or DCBS Protection and Permanency. The enrollment fee must be requested by the provider in writing to the
billing department and include the child’s name, case number and the amount. Enrollment fees can be paid only once in a 12-month period and are limited to a family amount of $100 per year.

Fraud

Intentional violation of CCAP rules, policies, statutes, etc., is fraud and can result in criminal conviction and loss of services and payments.

Intentional means misinforming the program purposefully to receive services and/or payment for services.

Parents may commit fraud by failing to report changes that affect program benefits, such as:

  • income changes – per hour rate or number of hours;
  • change in household size – person leaving or coming into the home; or
  • change of address.

Of course, with any question about the cost of certain services, there are variables you need to consider. In this case, it matters where you live in the country, how old your child is, how many hours you require your child to be in daycare, and of course the type of daycare that you desire.

How much does daycare cost? We’ll explore the answer to this question.

Also, we’ll look into affordable daycare, child daycare prices in Maryland, infant daycare cost per hour, and provide you with a childcare costs calculator to use to narrow down what your costs will be.

What Are the National Average of Daycare and Child Daycare Prices in Maryland?

As mentioned above, there are variables when looking into your actual costs of child daycare prices in Maryland, but we’ll provide the best national and state averages (as of 2016 when the latest figures were made available).

The average American will spend nearly $200 per week for daycare. Nationally, for 15 hours for your typical babysitter, look to pay about $214.

And as far as infant daycare cost per hour, the national average for babysitters is about $15 per hour. And with nanny’s in fashion, you’ll be on the hook for about $550 per week.

In Maryland, be prepared for a bit of sticker shock as child daycare prices in Maryland are higher than the national averages. The breakdown by state available is the per year cost.

But some of these calculators will help with average rates for childcare centers, to provide you with a perspective of whether you are paying too much.

Of course, you’ll want to research any childcare center or provider, and it’s a good idea to ask other parents you know and find out who they have chosen. This way you can have some ideas of the best options and of course or providers to avoid.

Finally, before choosing a childcare center, definitely check into their credentials and qualifications. Visit the facility and do so with a list of questions to make sure you make the right choice.
