To help you find the best party games for your child’s birthday I’ve divided up the list by indoor and outdoor party games. Get inspired reading the different party game ideas and then plan your party.

Your first step in planning your party is deciding where you will host it at your home indoors or outdoors. Then pick the games you want to play and create a timeline. After that just plan the food and invitations and your set.

If you are under stay at home orders consider throwing a virtual party with fun Zoom Games for Kids. It’s a great way to celebrate with faraway relatives too.

Indoor Party Games

When you review these party game ideas keep in mind that many of the indoor games can be played outside too and vise versa.

Balloon Stomp

What You Need – Balloons, Ribbon, Candy

How to Play – Stuff a small piece of candy into a balloon then blow it up. Tie the end of the balloon to a ribbon. Then tie the balloon to each child’s leg.

When you say go kids will try and stomp on the other kid’s balloons. If your balloon pops your out and the kid who stomped it gets the candy. The winner is the last child left with a blown-up balloon.

TIP – Use candy that doesn’t mush easily if stomped on. Also, have extra pieces of candy to give the kids who are out to keep anyone from getting too upset.

Would You Rather Game

Kids love playing the Funny Would You Rather Game. Ask the kids silly questions like Would You Rather have bad breath or stinky feet or Would You Rather eat worms or beetles?

Kids can answer in the chat feature or raise their hands for their answers. Then find out why they’d eat a worm instead of a beetle. The answers are the funniest part!

Charades Ideas for Kids

Kids will love this fun game of Charades plus it’s super easy to run all you need are the words and your set to play.

To get ready first, print out our Free Printable Charades Ideas for Kids with 144 Words & 8 Categories to choose from.

Then break the kids up into teams. You can do two larger teams or if you have a lot of kids maybe make 4 teams.

Have a bowl with the printed-out Charades words for the kids to pick from when it’s their turn. I suggest folding over the papers so no one sneaks a peek (:

The first player on a team has 1 minute to act out the word on their paper. If their team guesses the word before the 1 minute is up their team gets 1 point. If they don’t guess the word the other team has one chance to guess the correct answer and win the point.

The trade-off between teams taking turns until all the kids have had a chance to act out a word.

The winning team has the most points at the end of the game.

Escape Room Party

If your looking for more of a mental challenge try an Escape Room birthday party. It’s a super fun game and your kids will love the challenge of solving the puzzle of an Escape Room.

What You Need – Storyline, clues, and puzzles to solve.

We like to use the Escape Room Geeks Printable sets or Lock Paper Scissors Kits. They have everything you need for the game already created for you. Just print it out and you’re ready to go.

See our full review in Best Printable Escape Room Games for Kids to find the right difficulty level for your kids.

How to Play – First, download and print out the storyline and clues to solve the puzzle.

Next, break the kids up into teams, and give each team a separate space to sit and solve the puzzle. Basically, you just don’t want them to hear what the other team is saying so they don’t cheat.

To start the game you can either read the storyline to all the kids or give each group the sheet to read themselves. After that give each group the set of clues to try and solve the puzzle and break out of the escape room.

The escape room kits are created by age group so you can find one that will be easy enough for all ages at the party. You’ll find games that will work for kids ages 5 years old to Teenagers.

This has been one of our kid’s favorite party games so check out our Escape room games review & plan your party.

Hot Potato

What You Need – An actual potato or get the electronic Hot Potato that plays timed music to make it easier to run the game.

How to Play – Have the kids sit in a circle. When the music starts they begin passing the potato. When the music stops whoever has the potato is out. The winner is the last child still in the game.

Saran Wrap Candy Ball

What You Need – Pieces of Candy or small trinkets for prizes, 2 -3 boxes of Saran Wrap (Cling Wrap), 2 dice, and tin pie holder (to roll dice)

How to Make Your Saran Wrap Ball – Start by laying out a couple of layers of Saran Wrap on a flat surface. Then add a prize and roll it into a ball. Next, add another piece of candy in a different location and wrap a few more pieces of Saran Wrap.

Rotate the ball each time you wrap it so the wrapping starts in different locations and is harder to open. Also, make sure to keep shaping it into a ball as you go.

Keep going with alternating between wrapping and adding a prize until you’ve wrapped all your prizes.

How to Play – Sit the kids in a circle to play. Each round has an “unwrapper” and dice player sitting next to each other.

When you say go the unwrapper starts unwrapping and the dice play throws their dice until they get doubles. Use the pie tin to throw the dice into so they don’t roll too far.

When they get doubles the unwrapper has to stop and can keep any prizes that came out while they were playing.

The ball is then passed to the dice player who now becomes the unwrapper and the player next to them is the dice player. Keep going like this around the circle until you’ve come to the last prize.

Tip: I would add the best prize you are giving in first when wrapping the ball. This way the last prize of the game they open is your best item.

Detective Games

Plan a fun Mystery party with exciting Detective Games for kids. Tell the kids a detective riddle and have them write their answers in invisible ink to create secret messages. While it dries play escape room games, or have a teddy bear scavenger hunt with clues.

You’ll find tons of ideas in our Mystery & Detective Games for Kids.

Musical Chairs

What You Need – Enough chairs for all the kids but one. So if you have 12 kids have 11 chairs. Plus music to play during the game.

How to Play – Place chairs in two rows with the backs of the chairs touching the row behind them. Kids begin by forming a circle around the chairs.

Next start the music and the kids walk in a circle around the chairs. When the music stops they must sit down on a chair.

The kid who does not get a chair is out. Each round after someone is out, remove a chair and play again. In the end, you will have one chair and two players. Whoever gets that chair is the winner.

Laser Maze

What You Need – streamers, painters tape

How to Play – Create a fun laser maze for the kids to climb through at the birthday party. It’s super easy to do with streamers taped across your hallway.

I suggest using painters tape so that you don’t ruin the paint on your walls.

When it’s all set up let your kids try to get through the maze without touching the lasers (streamers). To make it a game have the kids race through and time them to see who is the fastest.

Freeze Dance

This is a simple game that can be played when you need something quick to take up time and get the kids wiggles out.

What You Need – Music to Play

How to Play – When the music starts the kids start dancing. When the music stops they need to freeze. Anyone who doesn’t freeze is out. The last child still in the game is the winner.

Bingo

Scavenger Hunt

What You Need – Printable Scavenger Hunt clues and Prizes. Use our Free Printable Indoor Scavenger Hunts.

How to Play – Hide your clues around the house and prizes before the kids start. Break the kids up into teams and give them the first clue to get started. Then let them roam the house to find all the clues and eventual prize.

TIP: Print out the clues in a different color for each team so they know when they find their clue. Then rearrange the order of clues for each team so they are not all headed to the same place at the same time.

Airplane Races

What You Need – Blank 8X11 Paper, Crayons, Paperclips

How to Play – Let the kids start out by folding and decorating their planes. Then have them line up and see who’s plane flies the furthest. To keep it going add paper clips in the next round to the tip and see if it changes the outcome.

Balloon Challenge

What You Need – Balloons

How to Play – Give each kid a balloon you’ve blown up (not helium) and see who can keep the balloon up in the air the longest without it touching the ground. Make it harder by having them keep one hand behind their back.

Capture the Flag

What You Need – Something to be a flag could be a bandana or a piece of cloth. You’ll need one for each team you have.

How to Play – A parent hides each team’s flag around the house and the team that finds their flag first wins.

Bigger Challenge – If kids are a little older make it more challenging by adding in Nerf Guns.

Each team still searches for their flag but if you are shot by an opponent’s nerf dart you have to go back to your base and start searching over again.

Hide & Seek

This is a classic game and great for smaller kids’ birthday parties.

How to Play – One child is the seeker the others are the hiders. The seeker closes their eyes and counts to 10. While they do that the other kids hide.

The first kid they find is the seeker for the next game. Continue to keep searching until all the kids are found then start another round.

Mummy Wrap

This is a great game at Halloween time but honestly, it’s really fun any time of the year.

What You Need – 2 Rolls of Toliet Paper per team

How to Play – Divide the kids up into teams. Each team then picks one person to be wrapped up like a mummy. When you say go each team will work to cover that person with toilet paper.

There are two ways you could pick winners. 1 – The first to wrap the entire body of the player. 2 – The first to go through all their toilet paper.

TIP: It’s tempting to buy the cheap toilet paper but it tends to rip easily and it is harder to wrap the mummy.

Tennis Balloon

What You Need – paper plate for each kid, popsicle stick for each kid or wooden spoons, masking tape, crayons, and balloons.

How to Play – Have each child start by decorating their paper plate and taping it to a popsicle stick or wooden spoon. Then team up kids in twos and give each team a balloon.

When you say go one player throws the balloon up and the team hits the balloon back and forth like a game of tennis. If a team’s balloon touches the ground they are out. The last team left in the game wins.

Pin the Tail on the Donkey

This is a classic game for smaller kids and is loved by all.

What You Need – Pin the Tail on the Donkey Kit with a poster, eye mask, and fake tail to pin.

How to Play – Hang the poster up on the wall and give each kid a donkey tail to pin. The first child puts on the mask and tries to pin the tail on the donkey while blindfolded. Continue by letting each child try. In the end whichever tail is the closest to the right spot wins.

TIP: If you want to do this more than one-time use painter tape on the back of the tail to easily take them on and off without ripping the poster.

Indoor Bowling

What You Need – 10 Empty Water Bottles, One Soft Ball or use a kid’s bowling kit.

How to Play – Set up the water bottles like bowling pins. Then have the kids roll the ball and see who can knock down the most pins.

TIP: Set up the pins with a wall behind them so you can easily pick them up and they don’t roll all over when knocked down.

Zoom Games

Have a party with friends and family that live far away with a virtual birthday party. Kids will love playing Zoom Games like Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader, scavenger hunts, charades, bingo, and more.

Obstacle Course

What You Need – Cones, Hula Hoops, ladder, 2 sturdy buckets, long board, or anything you have at home that might work in an obstacle course.

How to Play – Create an obstacle course in your backyard for the kids to run through one at a time. If you want it to be a competitive game time the kids to see who runs through the fastest

Obstacle Course Idea – Line up 5 cones for kids to weave through, then hop through a hula hoop, next cross a balance beam (board & two buckets), and end by running through a ladder laid flat on the ground.

This can be easily adjusted to whatever you have laying around the house. I’ve even taped cut-out shapes that the kids hop through like a frog.

Piñata

Kids love to line up and hit a Pinata filled with candy or treats. You can find fun pinatas for all different themed birthday parties. Find your child’s favorite character or a cute smiley face.

Hula Hoop Contest

What You Need – Several Hula Hoops

How to Play – Have kids start hula hooping at the same time and see who can last the longest.

Tag

What You Need – Nothing except glow stick necklaces for the nighttime game.

How to Play – Choose one child to be the tagger and the rest run. The tagger tries to tap one of the runners. Once they do then that person is the new tagger.

Zombie Tag – The tagger is a zombie and the rest of the kids are humans. Once a human is tagged by a zombie they become a zombie too and begin tagging the humans. Whoever is the last human left is the winner.

Freeze Tag – When kids get tagged in this game they have to freeze. In order to unfreeze another kid needs to crawl between your legs to free you. But they must do this without getting tagged themselves. The last kid, not frozen wins.

Glow in the Dark Tag – Have each kid wear glow stick necklaces and play tag at night in the backyard. Before you play this make sure they have a safe place to play in the dark with no obstacles in the way or streets close by to run on.

Water Balloon Baseball

What You Need – Water Balloons, bat, bases

How to Play – Put the kids on two teams. One goes in the outfield and the other team waits to bat.

The pitcher will throw 3 water balloon pitches. If the batter hits it they advance to first base and the other players move to the next base or make it home.

If the batter misses all three pitches they are out. You score by making it around all the bases just like a real baseball game.

This is a really fun party game on a hot summer day.

Water Balloon Battle

What You Need – Water Balloons and a large bucket for each team

How to Play – Break kids up into two teams and each gets a bucket of water balloons. Then let the kids throw the balloons at the other team. You can do a line down the middle to keep them from getting too close with the balloons.

TIP: When the game is done tell them the faster they pick up all the balloons in the grass the quicker they can eat the cake. That way they are all cleaned up before the end of the party.

Water Balloon Toss

What You Need – Water Balloons

How to Play – Have kids pick a partner and line up in two long lines facing their partner. Kids will throw the water balloon to their partner to catch.

Start out with the kids close and after each round have the kids take two big steps back. If you drop the balloon your team is out.

Spoon Races

What You Need – Large wooden spoons, water balloons, and small cones or chairs to race around – If it’s cold you could use ping pong balls instead of water balloons.

How to Play – Give each player a wooden spoon and a small water balloon. When you say go they race around the cone and back to their starting position. The goal is to make it back without dropping the water balloon.

TIP: Don’t put too much water in the ballon so that it can fit the size of your wooden spoon.

Sack Races

What You Need – Pillow Slips for Each Player and cones /chairs

How to Play – Kids step into the pillow slip and need to hop from the starting line around a cone and back to the starting line. It’s a race so the first back to the starting line wins.

TIP: If you want to make a project out of it let the kids decorate their pillow slips before you play and then take them home as part of a goody bag.

Basketball Shooting Contest

What You Need – A basketball hoop and basketballs

How to Play – Draw chalk lines every couple of feet from the basketball hoop. Start by having the kids all shoot from the closest line.

Whoever, makes it goes on to the next round and shoots from the next line. Keep going until you make it shooting from all the lines.

If there is more than one kid left at that point have each kid shoot until they miss and are out. The kid that is left is the winner.

Backyard Nerf Wars, Targets & Fortnite Battles

What You Need – Nerf Guns, Bases

How to Play – Divide the kids into two teams each with their own base. They can use nerf guns you provide or have the kids bring their own from home.

When you say go the kids try to shoot the other team with their nerf darts. If kids get shot then they’re out. Kids can use their nerf bases and obstacles you set up in the yard to hide behind. The team with players left at the end wins.

Tug of War

What You Need – A large rope, and a small one to create a line

How to Play – Lay out a long rope on the grass and place a line in the middle of the rope on the ground to indicate where the players need to pull too.

Kid Approved Classics for Ages 5-12 Years

As a kid, parties are simply the best. What’s not to love about getting to spend a large portion of the day with your friends, laughing and running around celebrating life! As a parent, planning and hosting your child’s birthday party can feel like an epic responsibility. Which is why I come back, again and again, to the classics! Classic kids party food, classic birthday themes and classic party games for kids.

In my opinion, they’ve all acquired classic status because they’ve stood the test of time, being enjoyed by thousands of children the world over.

Of course, in some parts of the world, your classic birthday party games might look a little different or even be called something else – but wherever you live, your kids are sure to create fabulous childhood memories of joy and fun and laughter with a game or two from this list!

(If your are looking for party games for older children, check out our list of classic tween party games for 10-14 year olds.)

1. Musical Chairs
You know the drill, right? Set up one less chair than the number of children playing. Start the music and everyone walks around the chairs until they hear the music stop, then everyone rushes to grab a chair as quickly as possible. The last person standing it out, another chair is removed, and the music starts again until there is only one final person standing.

Simply things even further by removing the chairs and play musical bobs (bob down when the music stops, slowest person to hit the ground is out) or musical statues (freeze in position when the music stops, anyone still moving is out) instead.

Find even more musical party games >> 15 Musical Kids Party Games

2. Pin the Tail on the Donkey
Pop a donkey poster up on the wall (you can order one like this online), blindfold players one at a time and spin each one in a circle a few times before letting them try to stick the donkey tail as close as possible to its rump!

Of course, it doesn’t have to be a tail or a donkey! We’ve improvised to suit the themes of our birthday parties with pin the wand to the fairy, pin the beard on the dwarf and pin the tail on the mermaid. Feel free to get creative to suit your birthday party theme.

3. Pass the Parcel
Okay so this one takes a little preparation but it’s such a huge hit with younger children that I had to include it on our list. Before the party, purchase a small, inexpensive prize related to the party theme or just something that you know your child and her friends will love and then wrap it in lots of layers of paper – recycled wrapping paper or newspaper are great. You’ll want at least one layer per child. To play, have the children sit in a circle, passing the wrapped parcel around the circle while you play some fun music. When the music stops, the child holding the parcel removes the outer layer of paper. Start the music again and continue until one child unwraps the final layer of paper to reveal their prize.

You might like to put a small lolly/sweet or balloon in each layer of wrap so that each of the children receive a prize.

4. Egg Toss
Unless you are very brave, hard boil the eggs beforehand (though I must admit, it’s much funnier if your eggs aren’t boiled – especially for tweens and teens), you’ll need one egg per pair.

Pair players up and have them toss an egg back and forth to each other. Each time the children both catch it, they must take a step backward and continue. The team that can catch their egg with the furthest distance between them, wins!

5. Egg and Spoon Race
Line players up, each with an egg balanced on a tablespoon. On “go,” players race to the predetermined finish line. If their egg drops, they must stop and put it back on their spoon before proceeding further (or, if you’re really tough, send them back to the start each time it drops!)

Again, hard boil your eggs before hand for a cleaner finish!

6. Sack Race
For a sack race you will need a hessian/burlap sack or a large pillowcase for each player (you can also play in relay teams to minimise the number of sacks you need). To race, guests must stand with their feet inside the sack and on ‘go’ race to the finish line (or to their teammate if you’re playing relay style). The first player to cross the finish line or first team to have all members jump is the winner.

7. Treasure Hunt
Treasure hunts (or scavenger hunts) can be super simple to set up, or as involved and detailed as you wish. To keep it super simple, hide wrapped sweets/lollies around the play space for guests to hunt, each guest keeps what they find. For a treasure hunt that’s a little more involved hide a series of tokens around the play space for guests to find – the child who finds the most wins a prize. The tokens can be anything – small coloured gemstones, printed tokens like the ones we used here for a goblin hunt, painted rocks, etc.

Finally, at the much more involved end of the scale is a treasure hunt with a series of pre-written clues that guests must read and solve (as a group) in a trail around the party space to find a hidden treasure.

8. Wheelbarrrow Races

Played in pairs, wheelbarrow races are tons of fun. The first person is the wheelbarrow – they start with their hands on the ground and their legs are held by the second person (the driver) in the pair. The wheelbarrow ‘walks’ their hands across the ground while the driver follows behind, holding their legs and steering the wheelbarrow. First team across the finish line are the winners.

9. Duck, Duck, Goose
A total classic, right? Totally simple, too. Have your partygoers sit in a circle cross-legged. Select one be the “goose.” The goose stands up and walks around the cirle of children, tapping (gently!) each of the other players on the head. Each time the “goose” taps a head, he or she says “duck.” When they decide on the person they want to chase them, they tap that person’s head saying “goose” and then start off running. If they can make it all the way around the circle, back to the seat of the person that just hopped up and sit down, then they are no longer the “goose.” The person who failed to catch them becomes the new goose. If they are caught, they sit in the centre of the circle and miss being selected for further turns.

10. Balloon Relay Race
Running and balloons is always a good idea when it comes to classic party games. Divide your guests into relay teams of four players, two on each side of the play space. You can play a balloon relay in a number of different ways – our favourite requires players to place an inflated balloon between their knees and jumping across the play space. Other versions require players to choose their own way of travelling across the space with the balloon but no hands allowed! This can be fun when played in pairs – each pair has to travel across the space with a balloon squashed between heads, backs or bellies! Alternatively, you can give each player an inflated balloon, have them race to the other side of the yard and sit on a chair and pop their balloon before racing back and tagging the next person in line. The first team to get this completed from start to finish wins!

11. Pinata
Before party day you’ll need to purchase or make a piñata to match your party theme and fill it with treats.

Hang the piñata so that it is hanging at about head height. Have party goers stand in a line a few metres away. Traditionally, players are blindfolded and gently spun around three times before trying to hit the piñata with a wooden stick but nowadays players simply take turns hitting the piñata (without a blindfold) until it breaks open.

12. Limbo
Two adults hold either end of a broomstick (or similar) loosely, at stomach height. The children take turns going under the stick without touching it, bending their knees and leaning back as necessary. The stick is lowered after all of the children have filed under it. Anyone who falls, touches the ground with their hands or touches the stick is out.

For a fun twist, Limbo is especially awesome on rollerskates. A great party game for kids at a roller disco!

Great for Tweens & Teens

Inside: 11 fun party games for 10-14 year olds – perfect for tweens and teens.

There is nothing better than seeing your child laughing and playing with their friends – especially in the digital age we live in, with many tweens and teens spending so much time on their phones and other electronic devices. I am sure you will agree that there is no better time to get them off the screens and having fun together than a birthday party and this collection of classic kids party games includes games that are budget friendly, super simple to play and sure to generate lots of laughs for tweens and teens!

These also make great youth group games, games for school camps, or any other setting where a group of 10-14 years olds are together.

1. Hanging Donuts Game
I had forgotten all about this game until I went to a Halloween party at a friend’s house. It was so much fun that even the adults insisted on having a turn! To play, tie a length of rope above head height between two trees or poles. Thread a piece of ribbon through the hole in each donut and then tie the ribbon to the rope so that the donut is hanging just above mouth level. On a start signal, each player tries to eat their donut – no hands allowed!

2. The Chocolate Game
Guests sit in a circle on the floor and take turns to roll two dice, passing them around the circle in a clockwise direction. If a child rolls a double number they put on a set of two or three dress ups (e.g. a hat and scarf or coat and boots) and then use a knife and fork to cut individual squares from a family sized block of chocolate and eat them. They keep cutting and eating until the next player rolls a double. The key is to keep the dice moving as fast as possible so that the person eating the chocolate changes regularly.

3. Cookie Face
Each player puts a small cookie (e. g. an Oreo) on their forehead and using only their facial expressions must try and move the cookie into their mouth.

4. Egg Toss
It’s much funnier if your eggs aren’t boiled – especially for tweens and teens! Just be sure to take it outdoors! You’ll need one egg per pair.

Pair players up and have them toss an egg back and forth to each other. Each time the children both catch it, they must take a step backward and continue. The team that can catch their egg with the furthest distance between them, wins!

5. Freeze Tag
One player is chosen to be ‘It.’ It chases the other players and when he/she tags a player, that person must freeze and remain frozen until another untagged player tags them to unfreeze them, they then may re-join the game. The game is played until all players have been frozen and then a new It is chosen for the next round.

To make the game even more fun, when unfreezing a tagged player you must call out the name of a television show. If you call the name of a show that has already been used, both you and the frozen player are now frozen together and must remain frozen until another player is free to rescue you!

6. Balloon Stomp
Have guests take off their shoes before playing. Each player will need an inflated balloon tie to a short piece of string and then tied around one ankle.  On ‘go’ players attempt to stomp on (and pop) each of the other balloons, while trying to protect their own – no hands allowed! The last person with an inflated balloon tied to their ankle wins.

7. Limbo
You’ll need a broomstick for a limbo pole and your favourite tunes for a classic game of Limbo! Hold the pole horizonally to the floor (you’ll need a person either end) at about chest height. Players line up and take turns to dance under the limbo pole without knocking or touching it – if you touch it, you’re out. Players must lean backwards, not forwards, as they pass under the pole. Once all the players are through, the pole is dropped about an inch and the players again must pass under the pole without touching it. The last player dancing is the winner.

8. Roll a Sundae
My eleven year old and her friends had lots of fun with this one at a recent sleepover party. You’ll need to choose six different sundae toppings – things like whipped cream, chocolate or strawberry topping, marshmallows, sour worms, sprinkles, mini M&Ms, etc – and you’ll need a bowl of ice cream for each person and a dice. Before starting, allocate one number of the dice for each topping, then the kids take turns to roll the dice and they add the topping rolled to their sundae. You can keep going around, adding toppings, for as many rounds as you like. Then it’s time to eat!

9. Wink Assassin
Everybody sits in a circle. One person is nominated to be It and moves away from the circle while everyone else decides who the ‘murderer’ will be. ‘It’ is called back to stand in the circle. The ‘murderer’ winks at one person in the circle at a time (trying to do it without ‘It’ seeing). When someone has been winked at, they pretend to die dramatically! ‘It’ has to try to deduce who the murderer is. Once they guess, the murderer becomes the next ‘It’ and the game starts over.

10. Name That Tune!
Before the party line up a playlist of your tween/teens favourite songs and some other popular tunes. Divide players into groups of two or three. Play a tiny snippet of each tune and have the groups guess the name of the song. Include spot prizes for particularly tricky toons and a fun prize for the winning team to keep things competitive.

11. Neighbourhood Scavenger Hunt
Divide your party guests into two teams and send them off on a neighborhood scavenger hunt. This post at Southern Plate has some great ideas for developing clues and challenges for the hunt.

Bop Til You Drop With These Game Ideas

Turn up the music! This collection of 15 music party games for kids might just be our favourite collection of kids party games ever!

These are great games for karaoke, disco or dance parties, with suggestions to suit children from 5 through to 15 years – though to be honest, even adults would have a laugh with the games in this collection!

They also make fun youth group games, and can be easily adapted as indoor games for class groups.

1. Musical Statues
Start the music and everyone dances until the music stops playing (out of view of the children, hit the pause button), then they freeze in position. Anyone still moving when the music stops playing or who moves while the music is off is out for that round. The final person dancing is the winner.

2. Musical Bobs
Proceed like Musical Statues (see instructions above) except this time the children must bob down when the music stops. Last person to hit the floor is out. Last person dancing is the winner!

3. Musical Buddies
Proceed like Musical Statues (see instructions above) but this time call out a number when the music stops. Children must form groups with that number of people in them. Anyone not in a group, or the last group to form, is out.

4. Poison Apple
This is also a great game for a princess or witch/wizard themed party. Have the children stand in a circle and pass an apple from person to person around the circle as the music plays. When the music stops, the person holding the ‘posion’ apple pretends to take a bite and then falls to the ground, pretending to fall into a deep sleep, bewitched by the poison. The winner of the game is the person who performs the most dramatic collapse to the floor!

5. You’ve Got Moves!
This is a fun dancing memory game. Children start out standing in a circle. A person is chosen to go first and they perform one cool dance move. The next person along performs the first dance move and then adds a move of their own. The game continues around the circle, with the sequence of dance moves becoming longer and harder to remember as play progresses. Any player who forgets the sequence is out of the game and sits down. The winner is the last dancer standing!

6. Pass the Parcel
Pass the Parcel is a classic kids party game that is hugely popular with younger party goers. You can find full instructions for how to play in our Classic Kids Party Games collection.

7. Lip Syncing competition
You’ll need access to a music streaming platform, like Spotify, and two pretend microphones for this game. Divide party guests into pairs. Each team chooses a popular song to perform. Give teams a few minutes to prepare their routine, encouraging them to think about dance moves and facial expressions. Teams take turns performing their songs for the other party guests. The winning team can be decided by an adult nominated as judge or you could monitor audience reaction and applause to choose the most popular performance.

8. Air Guitar competition
Put on your favourite rock or heavy metal song and invite guests to showcase their best air guitar skills! The winner is the performer who does the best job pretending to play their imaginary rock guitar.

9. Disco Dress Up Relay
Divide party guests into equal teams of four or five players. Each team will require a set of 4-5 large sized disco themed dress ups that are easy to put on and take off – for example, a sequined headband, glitter hat or curly wig, a pair of sunglasses, large costume jewelry, a paisley shirt, a  stretchy miniskirt, etc.

Divide each team into two lines, facing each other across a short running distance. Place the pile of dress ups in front of the first team member for each team. On ‘Go’ the first team member must put on all of the dress up clothes (over their regular clothes) and then race to their next team member, taking off the dress up clothes once there for the next player to put on. The race continues until all team members have had a turn to dress up and run. First team with their final team member across the finish line is the winner.

10. Musical Costumes
Have children sit or stand in a circle. As the music plays, the children pass around a bag of random costume pieces – glasses, hats, gloves, wigs, boas, etc. When the music stops the person holding the bag, takes out an item from the bag and puts it on. The person wearing the wackiest costume at the end of the game is the winner.

11. Limbo
One classic music party games has to be Limbo! You will need a broomstick (or similar) to act as the limbo pole. Two people (one either end) need to hold the pole horizontally to the floor at about chest height. Pop on your favourite tunes, line players up and have them take turns to dance under the limbo pole without knocking or touching it – if you touch it, you’re out. Players must lean backwards, not forwards, as they pass under the pole. Once all the players are through, the pole is dropped about an inch and the players again must pass under the pole without touching it. The last player dancing is the winner.

12. Musical Balloon Up
Prepare for this game by blowing up a series of balloons, each with a single dance challenge written onto a small piece of paper inserted before inflating.  Challenges might include actions, like performing a specific dance move, and trivia questions related to music. To play, put on some music and have the children bop the balloon to keep it up in the air until the music stops. The last person to touch the balloon pops it and then performs the challenge included inside.

13. Name that Singer!
Divide guests into teams. Each team will need enough sheets of paper to complete the number of rounds you decide to include in the competition and a marker pen. Either read out the title of a well known song, or play the first few bars of the song. Teams talk quietly to agree the singer and write their choice on a piece of paper. When prompted, teams reveal their answers. Each correct answer scores a point for that team. The team with the most points at the end of the competition is the winner.

Alternatively, this game can be played as Name that Song! (teams write down the name of the song) or Finish the Lyrics (teams write down the next line of the song).

14. Dance Battle
We couldn’t have a list of music party games without a dance battle! Have everyone stand around the designated ‘dance floor.’ Two guests dance into the middle of the dance floor, competing against each other by simultaneously performing their own freestyle solo dance. A winner is chosen and then the next pair competes. Continue until all pairs have competed and then have the winners dance off against each other until there are only two dancers competing for the ultimate title of Dance Battle Winner!

15. Music Trivia
Divide guests into teams to compete in your very own Music Trivia Quiz Competition. Each team will need a pad of paper and a pencil to record their answers to the quiz questions. Determine the number of rounds, and questions in each round, before the party. Teams work together to answer a series of music trivia questions, recording their answers as they go. The team that answers the most questions correctly are the winners. You can find a series of kid friendly music trivia questions here.

If you are thinking about hosting or entertaining a birthday party at home, prepare a set of birthday party activities that can make your event a hit without having to spend any extra money on supplies. For younger children, red rover, hot potato, or musical chairs are fun party games. For another birthday party idea: Think about a scavenger hunt, which is tons of fun for all age levels.

Some birthday party games might require a few supplies, but they’re everyday objects you probably already have lying around your house. It’s OK to improvise if you have a similar thing (for instance, you don’t have a potato, but you have a carrot). A slight variation gives a new twist. Chances are your guests won’t notice, but it’ll be humorous if they do.

For younger kids, activities like face painting, playing a sport, or erecting a ball pit can also make for a fun birthday party at home. If you’re going to be the one to host a birthday party, it’s best to get organized with a checklist, set a date, make an invite list, and square away the plans for food, birthday cake, and more.

Look at this list of easy, inexpensive birthday party activities that are great for kids, teens, and adults, provided you make some age-related modifications.

Tip

If your party is for a holiday or near one, pull ideas from these holiday-themed party games for Halloween, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, and even the Super Bowl.

This is a perfect birthday party activity for a large crowd, and multiple people can get prizes along the way. The basic idea when making this game is you start with a high-value present in the middle, wrap it with plastic wrap, then add a second prize in the next layer, wrap that, and you keep adding items and wrapping until you have a giant ball. The object of the game is for players to unwrap the ball, get a treat each time, and get to the prize in the middle.

This is one of the easiest birthday party activities to start because it just requires the participants—no props or money involved. However, it gets hard quickly. To play this game, instruct the guests to do something, but they have to do the opposite in order to stay in the game. For example, if you say raise your right hand, they have to raise their left hand; if you say to jump, they need to squat.

You can even combine this game with a Simon Says type of game by having them watch you act something out but they have to do the opposite.

This is a unique birthday party activity that you probably haven’t seen anywhere else. Players are on teams that meet in the corner of the room, and each group is either a giant, wizard, or elf. There are a few fun rules that everyone needs to follow to make it all work, but it can get loud since it includes some shouting. This fun game could easily be used as an icebreaker. It would be perfect for a wizard-themed birthday party.

Adults can also get in on the fun in a totally silly spontaneous way. This is really perfect for any large group.

25 fun games for the birthday boy and his guests

Children’s birthday is a wonderful occasion to feel like a magician and give the birthday boy and his guests a real journey into a fairy tale. The easiest way to arrange a holiday for a child is to hire professional animators, but the kid will like and remember the time spent with his parents much more than with a stranger, albeit an expert in his field. In addition, animators and guest hosts do not always know the birthday boy and the team well and therefore cannot take into account individual characteristics when writing a script for games for children.

All competitions and games must be prepared taking into account the age of the guests and the birthday person. You can separate the games for boys and girls, but the ideal option is when the competition is suitable for all participants, regardless of their gender.

Toddlers will like simple and moving games more. Preschoolers are more diligent, so they can be offered several games for attentiveness and ingenuity. Children of primary school age will enjoy quizzes and board games. In any case, you need to alternate outdoor games with calm entertainment.

Stages of preparing a children’s holiday

Organizing a children’s party is actually not that difficult. To do this, you need to perform several actions:

  • Decorate the room. Balloons, flags, streamers with inscriptions, funny photos of the birthday man or images with his favorite fairy-tale / cartoon characters can be used as decoration.
  • Set the table. No need to cook roasts, mayonnaise salads and numerous snacks. Children will appreciate the sweet table and fruit cuts. Of course, the head of the table is a birthday cake (always with candles, because blowing them out is a fun tradition that every child looks forward to on their birthday). It is recommended to use festive dishes with funny drawings. Firstly, this way the table will look more elegant. Secondly, children will not be afraid to break a plate or glass. Thirdly, it will save parents from having to wash mountains of dirty dishes after the holiday is over.
  • Prepare gifts. You can not just give gifts to the birthday man, but arrange a real quest to find presents and even connect all the guests to it. If all the invited children will participate in the quest, it is worth preparing a small gift for each of them.
  • Pick up games for children on their birthday.

You need to prepare especially carefully for the last point, because children will quickly get bored of sitting at the table, they will quickly want to move around and have fun.

Don’t forget the prizes for the winners of the contest. It can be various little things (soap bubbles, funny key rings, stickers, children’s stationery, etc.) or sweets.

Birthday games at home

If you wish and carefully prepare at home, you can arrange a holiday that will be no worse than an event in the game room. Moreover, the birthday boy will feel more comfortable in his native walls, a familiar environment is the best remedy for shyness.

To prepare fun home games for a child’s birthday, parents need only a little enthusiasm, a minimum of time and organizational skills, but a great desire to please their child on his long-awaited holiday.

1. Fanta

  • Number of players: unlimited.
  • Props: hat, vase, box or other container, notes with tasks, forfeits (personal items of all participants).
  • Age of children: 5+

A game familiar to absolutely everyone. One leader is chosen, who turns his back to all the players. The second presenter chooses a phantom and asks: “What should this phantom do?”. The first leader takes out a note with the task from the hat and reads it aloud. If the first leader is an adult with imagination, then you can do without notes and come up with tasks on the go. Tasks should be simple (crow a rooster, jump on one leg, etc.).

Another variant of this entertainment can be the game of camomile. The essence is about the same, but the tasks are written on the petals of a large chamomile. Each participant tears off a petal at random and performs the task that has fallen to him.

2. “Painted figure”

  • Number of participants: unlimited, but must be even so that participants can pair up.
  • Requisite: no.
  • Age of children: 5+

Participants are divided into pairs, each pair performs in turn. One player from a pair “draws” some figure / animal / plant with his finger on the back of the second. The second participant with a “drawn” figure must depict it. The pair that guessed correctly shows the next one. The winner is the pair whose figures guessed the most.

3. “Self-portrait”

  • Number of participants: unlimited.
  • Props: whatman paper with slots for hands, paints, brushes, water.
  • Children age: 4+

The participant puts his hands in the slots of the paper. Next, he needs to blindly draw a self-portrait. The winner is the one whose drawing will be as close as possible to the original. This is a very funny competition that will amuse the participants watching the artist a lot.

Table games

When the pizza is eaten and the candles are blown out on the cake, you can arrange table games for the children at the birthday party. The peculiarity of these entertainments is that they are held right at the table, you do not need to get up and move actively. As a rule, table games include quizzes, riddles, tasks for ingenuity, memory and thinking.

4. Remember Your Neighbor

  • Number of participants: unlimited.
  • Requisite: no.
  • Age of children: 7+

A game that perfectly develops memory. Children are invited to look at each other for a few minutes. Then they are blindfolded in turn and asked questions: “What color is the hair of the neighbor on the left?”, “How many buttons are on the jacket of the neighbor on the right?”, “The color of the eyes of the person sitting opposite?” etc.

5. Magic Letter

  • Number of participants: unlimited.
  • Requisite: no.
  • Children age: 6+

The host offers a letter. All guests must name items that begin with this letter that are in the room. Whoever has the last word wins.

  • DIY board games for children

6. Nonsense

  • Number of participants: unlimited.
  • Props: sheet of A4 paper, several ballpoint pens.
  • Age of children: 8+

The first participant writes on the sheet a phrase that will be the beginning of a common story. Then the player wraps the sheet in such a way that the writing is not visible. He transfers the last word from his phrase to the beginning of the next line and passes the sheet to the next participant, who must continue the story.

Example: the first player writes: “Once Vaska came to school.” He wraps the sheet and writes again the last word: “school”, from which the second participant is repelled. He continues: “Aliens attacked the school yesterday.” The phrase is wrapped, the last word is wrapped on a blank line, etc.

Music games

What a holiday without music! The celebration may end with a regular disco with popular children’s hits, but during the holiday, musical accompaniment will be needed for entertaining birthday games.

Parents need to prepare a playlist and playback device in advance. It is also worth making sure that all the dancers have enough space to demonstrate their choreographic talents.

7. “Indistinct singing”

  • Number of participants: unlimited.
  • Requisite: no.

  • Requisite: no.

Outdoor games

Children of all ages love various activities. Outdoor games for children at a birthday party are usually the guests’ favorite. The main thing is that all entertainment is safe.

Adults need to carefully monitor the participants: naughty children can accidentally injure themselves or others (push, fall, stuff a bump, etc.). The room should have enough space for movement, it is also better to remove all breaking and fragile objects from there, move furniture with sharp corners away.

11. “Who am I?”

  • Number of participants: unlimited.
  • Props: blindfold.
  • Age of children: 5+

The leader is selected. He is blindfolded. The guests rush in all directions, and the host must catch one of them and, with his eyes closed, determine who exactly he got. Their task is to run with a bucket to the start, then go back and pass the container to the next participant, who will repeat the race. When all participants run the relay, the leader will compare the amount of water in the buckets. The winner is the team that not only overtook the rivals, but also splashed as little liquid as possible.

13. Balloon War

  • Number of participants: unlimited.
  • Props: chairs and as many balloons as possible.

A partition is made of chairs in the room. Teams are located on opposite sides of the barricade. At the command of the leader, both teams begin to throw balloons to the side of the enemy. When the “Stop!” command sounds, the game ends and the balls are counted. The team with the fewest balls on their side wins.

Games with parents

Despite the fact that most of the guests are children, and the hero of the celebration is a birthday child, adults do not have to stay away from the fun. Parents can also take part in competitions. Moreover, why not compete with children (of course, succumbing to them quite a bit).

If there is none, then any of the participants can replace it.

Joint games with parents are not just entertainment, but also an opportunity to communicate with your child, unite with him more, and also get to know his friends better.

To come up with simple birthday games for kids at home, parents need only remember their own childhood. Many modern children do not know the old games, even the usual “Brook” or “Loaf” can be interesting fun for kids. But for older children, it is worth coming up with more complex contests.

An excellent end to the celebration will be fireworks. All guests – both children and adults – can go outside and admire the amazing fireworks launched by their parents in honor of the birthday boy.

Children’s birthday should be bright, cheerful and unforgettable. Your holiday will be just like that, subject to careful preparation and competent organization. At the end of the celebration, the children will have a lot of positive emotions and memories for many years to come. Parents will feel like real superheroes who were able to realize the dreams of their little birthday boy.

Children’s birthday games and competitions

Home Blog Children’s birthday games and competitions

The happiest days in a parent’s life are those that are unforgettable. These include, first of all, the birthday of their child. However, the older the child, the more difficult it is to prepare a good holiday for him. Usually preparing for a party is troublesome, but at the same time pleasant.
Choose a gift for the hero of the occasion, create beautiful and bright invitations for his friends, buy a cake with candles or make it yourself, hang balloons everywhere, choose games, entertainment for the child and his comrades … And, perhaps, this is not the whole list. And the most ambitious task among all this is the preparation of competitions.

How to prepare contests for children’s name days?

When selecting contests for children for birthdays , , first of all, you should take into account the age of the birthday person and friends invited to the celebration. This is understandable, because it makes no sense to take games for 5-year-olds when a 10-year-old child has a birthday. Contests should be interesting for the baby, so that at the end of a busy day of celebration he will have only pleasant impressions.
By the way, you don’t have to come up with contests yourself. And why do it at all, when everything is already there. It is enough just to make a selection of those games that the child and his friends will definitely like, creating a so-called entertainment program that provides for participation alone and in teams. You can not think about this at all, but simply invite a good animator.
A cheerful adult presenter will be able to organize a children’s party so that each of its participants has fun, from the birthday boy to all his guests. Moreover, the celebration can be either thematic (cosmetic, pirate theme, etc.) or ordinary.

Birthday contests for preschool children

If we talk about games for preschool children, then the most suitable ones are those that include competitions. Therefore, it is worth giving preference to those entertainments where you need to divide into teams. They are very exciting for the child, give him vivid emotions and allow him to expend a large amount of energy.

It is possible, for example, to include the “Hit in the Hat” contest in the program.

  • Children need to stand in a circle, and then the leader puts a hat on one of them.
  • When the music begins to play, the participant in the hat needs to turn around and place the props with his hand on the head of his neighbor.
  • This is how the transmission is carried out in a circle.
  • At times the music stops playing.
  • As soon as this happens, the person with the hat on his head is eliminated from the competition.
  • It is not necessary to use a hat for the competition.
  • Other props are also suitable, such as a ball.
  • The use of a small chair is also allowed, but then the children will alternately sit on it and pass it to the next participant.
  • Let the game not be divided into teams, but still exciting.

Name-day entertainment for children from 6 to 10 years old

A child of this age and his friends will find entertainment that requires effort. Moreover, it does not matter: whether it is necessary to think over any logical problem well or apply physical force – everything will be of great interest. They no longer like simple games, because they want to be recognized as adults and able to cope with tasks of any complexity.

One suitable type of competition is the Verbal Duel.

  1. The facilitator preliminarily creates cards where the words are written upside down, that is, confused.
  2. Participants are divided into 2 teams (more can be done).
  3. Team captains are given the right to put their hand into the container and pull out a card.
  4. Then each group has to decipher their word.
  5. Who will cope faster, he won.

Children’s birthday contests for teenagers

Teenagers are the most active people. Often people believe that to organize a holiday for their already more or less adult son or daughter, a good table with a variety of dishes and a special place where you can dance to your favorite music will be enough. However, this opinion is erroneous.

A teenager, like a younger child, loves competitions and does not mind taking part in them alone or in a team. True, something youthful, cheerful and, if possible, mobile should be selected.

You can, for example, include the “Try to Hit” contest in the program.

  • Within its framework, one participant, taking a stick with an inflated balloon tied to it, stands at the far side of the room, while the second participant is located at the opposite end of the room, taking a dart with him.
  • The first participant drives a stick with a ball so that it is constantly in motion, and the second must try to throw the “tool” so as to hit the target and burst it.
  • In case of hit, the child receives a prize.
  • If you failed to burst the balloon, you will have to grant a wish.

Popular birthday games

The interesting contest “Smart Monkeys” is very popular.

  • Participants in this case can be arbitrarily, but not less than 2.
  • First, everyone humbly sits on chairs or sofas and humbly listens to the facilitator’s story, aimed at making the participants imbued with the atmosphere of the tropical forests, where many monkeys live.
  • He then introduces the participants as the most agile monkeys in the pack.
  • After that, each of them is given a chair with a banana on it.
  • The point is to clean it and eat it faster than your opponents without using your hands.

Also often at children’s parties there are “Eskimo Blind Man’s Bluffs”.

  1. To begin with, the host chooses one of the participants as the driver and puts thicker mittens on his hands, and also blindfolds.
  2. Further, other players come up to this participant in turn, and he must understand by touch who exactly is in front of him.
  3. If the identification of the participant was successful, then he becomes the next driver.

Well, how not to remember the “Broken phone”.

  • Participants put chairs in a circle, sit down.
  • It all starts with the leader whispering a word or phrase to one of the participants.
  • He, in turn, must repeat what he heard, also in a whisper in the ear of his neighbor, and so on in a chain.
  • When the last player receives the information, he must say out loud what he heard, and then it is compared with the original phrase.
  • After that, the host sits at the end of the chain, and now the next player comes up with a phrase.

Mind games

We ate, danced, and now it’s time to think. In this regard, intellectual games prepared for the birthday will help.

  • These may include, for example, puzzles with matches, in which you need to rearrange a certain number of matches in order to get the correct example or a picture that has a different meaning (a number has turned into a letter, an arrow has changed direction, etc. ). This is a great option for team competition.

You can also use flip pictures.

  • These are images that, if turned upside down, their meaning changes dramatically. You can show the children from one angle, and then ask them to think about what would be shown in the picture if it was turned upside down. You can simply cut the image into pieces, divide the children into teams, and ask each to collect it.

Board games

Board games are something that can really captivate not only children of all ages, but also adults. It is enough just to start the game, and the time behind it will pass unnoticed. And every minute of the gaming session will be filled with joy and fun.

There is a huge range of table entertainment to suit all tastes. And yet one of the most popular and to this day is Monopoly – a kind of economic simulator. Those games that are made based on famous games, films, cartoons are also constantly famous.

Outdoor games

This type of games is suitable for the audience that does not like to sit on chairs for a long time, but prefers to stretch their muscles. They are especially popular among teenagers as they usually have a lot of energy.

If you want birthday games for kids to be moving, you should take care of the fun in advance and buy, for example, Twister.

  • It consists of two elements: a rug with colored circles and a special tape measure with sectors with different limbs and colors.
  • The presenter rotates the roulette wheel sequentially for each of the participants, and they, in turn, must place the indicated part of the body exactly on the circle of the color that fell out. Moreover, 2 limbs cannot be located on the same circle at once.
  • You can also play balloon volleyball.
  • For this entertainment, the players must be divided into 2 teams.
  • After measuring a distance of 1 meter, place one chair opposite each other.
  • Players must sit on them.
  • The floor is divided in the middle with a rope.
  • Next, the children play volleyball.
  • It is important that the ball flew over the rope.
  • When beating it, you can not get up from the chair or take the props in your hands.
  • Only repulsion of the ball is allowed.
  • The team receives a point if the ball falls on the opponent’s territory.
  • The game is suitable for children 4-12 years old.

Joint competitions for children and adults

Who said that only children can participate in competitions? Nothing like that: you can play together. There are many interesting entertainments that are equally well suited for both children and adults. Most importantly, it’s great to have fun with friends.

For example, you can play Firemen.

  • For this you will need 2 jackets and 2 chairs.
  • Turn the sleeves inside out and hang them on the backrests.
  • Place a rope at least 2 meters long under the chairs.
  • Both competitors must position themselves next to their chairs.
  • As soon as the presenter gives the signal, they should grab the jackets with their hands, turn the sleeves back, put on and fasten all the buttons.
  • Having finished with the clothes, you should run around the opponent’s chair and sit on your own, and at the end pull the rope.
  • Whoever does all this first wins.
  • Players may wear other clothing such as shirts.

As you can see, there are enough different contests and games, and you can participate in them both alone and in the company of friends.

Birthday games for kids – the best options for a holiday scenario

January 28, 2022

Preparations for a children’s birthday should begin long before the holiday date. Of course, you can just give the child a suitable gift, call his friends and seat him at the set table. But in this case, the birthday will be boring!

Birthday games for children – options for a holiday scenario

The most optimal solution is to use the services of professional animators. However, many children, especially toddlers, prefer to spend time with loving parents and friends than to communicate with strangers, even professionals. Birthday contests for children are held by professional animators at a high level, but there are some nuances here.

Animator services are expensive, and there are not so many real pros. It should be taken into account the fact that a stranger does not know the birthday man, his character, interests and temperament. Animators work according to the standard scenario, taking into account only the age group. This does not mean at all that you can not invite animators. But you can just do it yourself if you make an effort and use our advice.

When planning an event, one should take into account the individual characteristics of the child, his age, interests, temperament.

Birthday contests for children. The main rules of a successful holiday:

  1. All games and the competitive program must correspond to the age of the birthday person and his friends invited to the holiday.
  2. Competitions can be both separate for girls and boys, and general.
  3. Regardless of the games and competitions you have chosen, and the division of children into gender groups, the program must necessarily include general competitions. This is the ideal option.
  4. Different contests should be selected – outdoor games for children’s birthdays at home, intellectual contests, table games, music contests, etc. They should alternate. But between competitions should take breaks. Games with children at the table are very appropriate, but too rich a holiday program will tire children, regardless of age. If you notice that the children are tired or the interest in competitions has decreased, invite the children to play together and give them freedom. Then you can start implementing the holiday scenario again.
  5. Consider where the child’s birthday is celebrated. You can arrange a meeting in the apartment, in nature, in a children’s cafe. For each situation, you should choose your scenario in advance.

Properly chosen by parents birthday contests for children are an excellent opportunity to show your son or daughter your care, attention, indifference. The child will appreciate it, we assure you!

Competitions at home for children. Stages of preparing a children’s party

Organizing a children’s party is not such a difficult task as it might seem at first glance. Use our hint and you will succeed! First, complete all the preparatory activities in stages, and then hold children’s birthday contests for the child that you select in advance.

So let’s get started!

1. Decorate the room.

Use holiday paraphernalia – children’s balloons, multi-colored flags, pre-prepared birthday greetings, etc. You can find a lot of interesting ideas on the net. For example, decorate the room with funny photos of the birthday boy or order posters and posters of his image along with your favorite characters from books, fairy tales and cartoons.

2. Set the table.

Filling the table tightly with salads, mayonnaise and fur coats is not a good idea. Children do not need kebabs, grilled chicken, roasts and lots of cuts and snacks. If you do not plan to cook yourself, use the services of food delivery for the holidays. Serious companies choose the right children’s menu. Children will appreciate such a table, and you will not get tired and will be able to hold contests for children on their birthday at a high level.

Only a sweet table can be made. In this case, take care of tasty and healthy drinks (preferably not Coca-Cola and sweet sodas), sweets, cakes, fruits. Confectionery products can also be ordered by professionals. Don’t waste your money on a birthday cake! It should be luxurious – tasty and healthy. Don’t forget about the beautiful tradition of blowing out the candles. This moment is waiting for any child, regardless of age.

We recommend using beautiful and bright tableware and festive dishes. It sets the mood and the table looks elegant. But the dishes should not be fragile and break easily. If you don’t want to wash a mountain of dirty dishes, you can find beautiful disposable dishes with a fun pattern.

3. Preparing gifts.

Of course, you can just give a present to a birthday person. But it will be more interesting if you turn birthday gifts into a quest. For example – offer to find a gift according to the clues. To search for a gift or several presents, you can connect the child’s friends invited to the holiday.

Please note: so that the children do not feel offended that the birthday boy received a gift, but they did not, prepare small gifts for everyone. They can also be handed out with fiction – to the music, in the form of a quest – at the prompts (sign the gifts in advance). Just buy each of the guests the same presents, for example, curly gingerbread. Or pick up the same gifts – for all the girls a small doll, for the boys – a typewriter.

4. We select birthday games for children.

This is perhaps the most serious stage. You have to prepare very carefully. Please note that children will not be able to sit at the table for several hours. They get bored quickly. There will be a desire to move, to play. Arguments and quarrels may begin. If you do not take the process into your own hands, the situation will get out of control. And the holiday can be hopelessly spoiled.

Children’s birthday contests. Don’t forget about prizes for participants!

Don’t forget the small prizes for the winners of children’s competitions. Cute little things that all children love so much can serve as gifts:

  • Rainbow bubbles.
  • Bright keyrings.
  • Baby stickers, etc.

You can just buy candies and put them in a nice closed box. The winner of each competition is awarded with a sweet.

Birthday entertainment for children. Child psychologist advice

Don’t forget about the main task of any competition – to give young guests the opportunity to express themselves. If a child is eager to take part in the competition, do not interfere with him, if he is shy – do not insist, do not force the child, but give him all kinds of support. Perhaps when a child who is quiet and calm by nature gets a little comfortable, he will overcome his shyness.

How to hold contests for children’s birthday?

In any case, do not focus on the problem and do not involve other children in active persuasion. All children on a name day should feel comfortable. For example, quieter children tend to be more willing to participate in charade contests.

Also remember the goal – a holiday should be a holiday. Your task is to create a free, friendly, fun atmosphere.

With a deep bowl on their backs and on all fours, teammates go to the plates of delicious treats, take only one treat and head back. The next player takes over.

2. Strong pair

Players are divided into pairs and follow the leader’s orders without disengaging their hands (running away from the enemy, crouching, jumping, etc.)

3. Martians little men – to populate the planet. The task is to quickly draw as many inhabitants of your “planet” as possible.

4. How many butterflies does the birthday boy have

The children will have to count the butterflies. Carved insects hide in advance anywhere, on the wall, on the chandelier, on chairs and so on.

5. Guess the object

Blindfolded, the player guesses what is in his hands. The birthday boy gives each player in turn one of his toys.

Competitions for children at home. Calm games

Active and sedentary games alternate with calmer contests. They give children the opportunity to relax and switch attention.

1. Guess the hero

Based on a short description of the host, you need to guess your favorite heroes of fairy tales and cartoons.

2. Lollipops

Each team is given a bag of colorful small candies. Their number is the same for all teams. You need to sort them by color, putting them in piles. The fastest team gets candy as a reward.

3. Looking for items

Players are given pictures with a picture of a specific item and pictures with cartoon characters. You need to sort the pictures into groups – Cinderella / shoe, Pinocchio / golden key, Crocodile Gena / accordion, etc.

4. Guess the aroma

Blindfolded, you have to guess what some prepared object smells like. Flavored tea bags with currant, strawberry, raspberry, lemon, mint, jasmine, etc. are suitable for the contest. Each team is given a sheet with the name of the animals. You need to write on it as soon as possible how the beast defends itself: a cat with claws, a dog with teeth, a bull with horns, a horse with hooves, a hedgehog with needles.

Games with parents

Adults may well take part in the competition. Sometimes it is allowed to lie. Give in by letting the little kid win.

1. Puzzles

Collecting pictures for speed. Beforehand, cut some photographs or drawings into not very large fragments.

2. Dad also plays

Competitions are held together with the elders. Dads jump on all fours with children on their backs. One of the most favorite games for little ones.

3. Animal trail

Children follow the animal trail left by adults. The role of the trace is played by a pre-cut cardboard. You just have to follow the tracks. The players completely transfer the weight to one foot, the adult rearranges the track further.

4. Walk along the string

The goal is to quickly walk along the string laid out on the floor.

5. Let’s all sing together

Joint fun music competition. Children and adults sing loudly in chorus. At the leader’s command, they fall silent and continue to sing “to themselves.” But everyone sings loudly to the new team again. Whoever fails is out. The game continues until there is only one player left.

Simple games

Suitable for younger children.

1. The most accurate and dexterous

Children throw candy, plastic caps, etc. into the prepared bucket.

2. Fashionistas

The birthday boy dresses up the guests with a set of accessories. Prepare scarves, gloves, glasses, handkerchiefs, bows, hairpins and elastic bands, gloves, sequins, etc. children play this game with delight.

3. The biggest soap bubble

Children blowing bubbles, who has more?

4. Show the crocodile

The leader says the word to the player in the ear: camel, crocodile, dog, etc. Children guess what the leader said by the way the player demonstrates what he heard.

5. Damaged phone

A famous popular game. The word spoken in a whisper in the ear is passed along the chain to the next.

Charades

Have the children solve the charades. They must be selected strictly by age. You can find good examples in the link. You can independently find similar charades on the net and bookmark them on your phone. During the holiday, use the hint at any time. Good luck!

Children’s birthday contests at home. Conclusion

When preparing a holiday, keep in mind that guests of different ages need to find adequate entertainment. If there are guys of different age groups at the name day, find a fun and interesting activity for both older and younger ones. Nobody should be bored!

Be friendly and considerate to all guests, but don’t be pushy. Estimate in advance how much time is better to devote to each item of the program – a game, a feast, a disco, competitions. After active play or dancing, switch guests to quiet activities.

On a birthday, of course, the birthday boy is the center of attention. But all the time, everything “spins” around him anyway should not. Every child should feel comfortable. Guests can and should show what they are capable of. Actually, this is why you arrange games and contests.

  • 5 secrets on how to prepare a quest without mistakes and surprises

  • Top 10 best games for the little ones (from 2 years old)

  • Top – 8 cool competitions for children 5-8 years old

  • Most popular games for kids 8-11 years old

These games can be successfully held at holidays where there are children of different ages, of course, if the age difference is more than 5 years, you will have to try very hard so that the older ones do not get bored, and the younger ones are included.

Secrets from professional presenters

To make the holiday fun, mom will need to prepare for tasks in advance and prepare everything necessary (the simplest things: cardboard, dishes and homemade rattles, balloons, clothespins, soap bubbles, etc. ).

It will be great if you think over prizes and gifts for all participants.

You can announce from the very beginning that a photographer and a main assistant are required for today’s holiday. If there are several applicants, you can arrange the first competition for them, or you can simply use the rhyme.

Don’t overburden the kids: don’t have all the competitions in a row, give them the opportunity to play whatever they want, keep secrets, but make sure no one gets bored. If this is a shy child who is not ready to join in the fun, give him a secret and very important task, such as blowing up balloons or something more creative.

Remember – the main thing is that the children have fun, do not try to do everything perfectly, strictly following the script.

Games for the little ones (from 2 years old)

Congratulations arch

It is good to play this game at the very beginning of the holiday, so that the birthday person and all the guests feel and remember who the hero of the celebration is today. We turn on pleasant music, we combine the children in twos, taking into account their height, we place them facing each other, you need to join your hands and raise them up to make an arch (tunnel). The birthday boy passes through this arch to the deafening and simultaneous “Happy birthday! HURRAH! HURRAH! HURRAH!”.

Unusual greeting

Do you know how penguins greet each other? Head to head (depict).

So now we will greet each other in an unusual way. We combine children in pairs (as you like, you can with adults). And we call the way they should say hello: nose to nose, finger to stomach, head to back, knee to elbow. Each time we increase the pace. When we say: you come to me, we must change places (we remind the children every time so as not to get confused). We must stand with those with whom we have not stood before. Elbow-back again, fist-knee, ear-hand, etc. We spend until the children are in pairs with everyone, constantly increasing the pace.

Cat and Mouse

A game that little ones love. You will be the cat and the children will be the mice. You need to make a house for the mouse (a hoop or a small rug, you can make a circle out of a rope). We turn on fun music (or you can do without it, it will still be very fun). At first, the cat sleeps, you pretend, you can even snore, the children at this time run around at ease, play where they want. And then the cat wakes up and goes hunting, the children at this time must have time to hide in the house so that the cat does not catch them. You can give everyone the opportunity to hide, or you can catch someone for real (for children over 4 years old), then they become a cat. This game is very fun if you use an ordinary umbrella as a prop, and the children will act as butterflies that frolic in the clearing. But now the presenter reports that it’s raining and opens the umbrella, the children should rather hide under the umbrella (suitable for small companies)

Pathfinders

Divide the players into 2 teams, give each team only two cards cut out in the form of tiger or wolf footprints. It is necessary to overcome 4-5 meters (as much as space allows), transferring body weight on one leg, while the second team member (preferably an adult) rearranges the cardboard for the next step.

Filming a video!

Stock up on a video camera or free up enough space on your smartphone. It is better if you do not shoot, but someone else. This is something that will remain in memory and will delight you and the child for a long time. Prepare your child’s favorite song (you can from the cartoon, it is important that it be in Russian). You will need soap bubbles or confetti (stock 2 jars).

Be sure to ask the parents to participate, they will blow bubbles, standing on both sides of the children, i.e. towards each other.

The task of the children is to portray, as best they can, what is sung in the song (you show movements that are better thought out in advance, so that you cannot be seen in the camera)

Blanket with a bottle

There is a bottle of water on the blanket. All participants must take hold of the blanket and complete a series of tasks, but on the condition that the bottle does not fall. For example, raise the blanket from the ground to head level, walk to the right, sit down with the blanket, jump.

Balloon in zero gravity

The balloon must be held in zero gravity by each participant. Only two people can hold the ball at the same time, only for 3 seconds and only by holding it between the chest (later on, back, forehead, knees). If the ball falls during execution, then it starts all over again.

Cheerful orchestra

A homemade orchestra using rattling and rustling objects is always fun at a children’s party. It’s easy and great to use yellow plastic eggs from Kinder Surprise, filled with cereals, beans or coins. First, each child will make a rattle to his taste (parents can help the kids here), and then organize a home orchestra.

Note that each “instrument” has its own sound. Give the children the rattles they made, let them remind them of your holiday. Limbo All you need is a rope or ribbon, which is pulled by adults, and energetic music. One by one, all the guests pass under a rope stretched at the level of the chin of one of the adults. Then we lower it by 20 cm. Again, everyone, dancing, passes. We omit. And further.

both children and adults participate in our game, at the end there will be the smallest two-year-old dancers. Don’t forget to capture the fun on camera!

Dryer beads

Children only. 2 children compete at the same time. We put a plate with 10 dryers in front of each and give a rope or ribbon in our hand. Who will make a necklace out of all dryers faster? You need to take one.

Fun contests for children aged 5-8

General postcard

Draw a birthday card with your guests. You will need bright felt-tip pens, colored helium pens, sparkles, stickers, pencils that you can find at home. Unleash your creativity, and you can suggest a theme and wishes for the birthday man: a smiling sun, a blue sky, unusual flowers and animals/cartoon characters. These cards can remind the child of a joyful event for a long time. For older children (who can already write), you can make a large congratulatory poster on whatman paper, pasting photos of the birthday man and his friends there in advance and asking the children to write wishes to the birthday man, younger guests can draw their wishes.

The most attentive

The driver asks all the players to turn away and count to 20, and at the same time he attaches clothespins to everything that catches his eye: to a blanket, lamp, books, soft toys, plants (20-30 pieces are enough). We turn on cheerful music: the one who has collected the most clothespins receives a prize and gets the opportunity to hide all the clothespins himself.

Air Attack

Inflate 10-20 normal balloons (5-10 each of two different colors). Create two teams. Divide the room into two equal parts with a rope or masking tape, arrange the teams opposite each other. Each team is given 5 balls. While the music is playing, you need to transfer the balls to the side of the opponent. It’s not very easy, because your opponents return your balls! As soon as the music stops, the players stop the fight. We count balls. The team with the fewest balls on their side wins. Usually the game is played up to three wins.

Dance with felt-tip pens

We give each participant a felt-tip pen, it is necessary to hold it between the pads of the index fingers, while doing the tasks. Step right, step left, crouch, make a wide circle, raise your arms, jump, etc.

Disco

Learn a few simple dance moves ahead of time. Offer the kids a fun disco! While the music is playing, the guys will repeat the movements of those who are wearing a hat or with a ball (or with a garland). Movements should be not only simple, but also funny, often repetitive. At first, the leading adults, and then the children, the parents repeat after them.

Forest orchestra

You can make an animal orchestra: let each child be some kind of animal (it is important that it can make sounds, so a fox is not suitable ;)). You, as a conductor, touch the child, and he enters (meows, quacks, growls, etc.), then the next one, increase the pace. At the end, all the children-animals sound together.

Games for children aged 8-11

Almost all of the above games are suitable for children of this age (except for cats and mice, beads made of dryers, orchestra and greedy). We offer 4 more games:

Hamsters

It sounds very childish, but children even at 12 years old play it with pleasure, if it is interesting to beat. We make a riddle for children about a hamster: who likes to hide all the food behind their cheeks. When you guessed it, we ask who the hamsters are afraid of. Of course, cats!

You say that when there is no cat, hamsters have fun and name what children will imitate, how they tumble, jump over each other, dance. But then, you say, a CAT appears. As soon as the children hear this word, they should stand in a circle facing inward and grab each other (shoulders). And you walk in circles and try to “pull out” someone. Children must hold tightly so that the cat does not eat anyone. It is carried out 2-3 times. Each time, the word CAT should be uttered at an unexpected moment (but then they saw … a gopher who was looking at the moon, and behind him was a CAT!)

Can be performed using any character: shark, dinosaur, spy, etc.

Do you know the birthday boy?

Ask guests if they know the birthday boy well. If they say it’s great (and most kids will), let them know what needs to be checked.

You ask a birthday person a question, to which he only has to answer yes or no. For example, do you have a favorite color? The hero of the celebration should not name the color, but only confirm that yes, there is. Then everyone takes turns guessing what color it is in their opinion. One player, one answer. When everyone has spoken, we ask the birthday man what color he likes. Who guessed it, pats himself on the head, and who doesn’t, performs some task from the birthday man.

Ask 3-4 questions (favorite subject in school, favorite movie/cartoon, favorite food, etc.)

Fashion show

Unleash the children’s imagination. Let the hero of the occasion become a couturier for a while. Children love to dress up and imitate adults. You only need to prepare a variety of ribbons, paper, handkerchiefs, scarves, tape, paper clips and safety scissors. The courier dresses up the guys according to his taste (mummies, pirates, flowers, princesses, sorcerers, etc.). If the boys are embarrassed to participate, they can be made members of the jury.

Prince, princess and dragon

We have not met children who would not appreciate this game. To tell the truth, adults also play it with pleasure, and sometimes they get so carried away that they don’t notice how one and a half to two hours have passed.

The essence is simple: we divide the players into 2 teams. The host announces that there are 3 roles in this game: a prince who waves a sword (depict a simple movement so that everyone repeats it), a princess who bows (crouching while holding an imaginary dress) and a dragon who opens her mouth wide and growls (spread two hands up and down).

The prince defeats the dragon, the dragon defeats the prince, and the princess charms the prince by defeating him.

Each team secretly chooses who it will be in this round.

At the expense of “3” teams, standing opposite each other, “attack”.

It is important that all team members show the same character. The host monitors this, even if one of the team showed another hero, then this team is awarded a defeat in this round. You can play up to 3 points, or until you get bored

Fun and simple contests for children’s birthday

Fun and easy kids birthday contests

Who didn’t love their own birthday as a child? This is the day when all the closest and dearest gather, friends come, give a bunch of gifts, cut a delicious cake. These are the most fun and vivid memories of childhood, and to make them even brighter, parents need to work out a script for a children’s holiday, birthday contests. The main thing is not just to meet guests and sit at the table, but also to entertain them, giving the child and his friends the opportunity to unite even more, have fun to the fullest and remember this day as the best in life. But what contests are needed for a children’s birthday? We will offer you many options, and when choosing, be sure to consider the age of the children, and choose the most interesting games for everyone present. 9Ol000 Games

Intellectual competitions at the table are good because they help parents save the house from the mess and destruction that naughty preschoolers threaten him with. Of course, children will not be able to captivate such fun for a long time, but for a while they will be “neutralized”, at the same time, watching their games will help parents learn something new about their child.

The simplest birthday contests for children can be represented by riddles that can be chosen for any age:

“Guess what I see”

find this item in the room.

Pantomime competition

An adult or a child imitates something or someone, and the rest of the children must understand what or who it is.

“What has disappeared?”

Place several objects on the floor, sofa or chair, which children must look at for a while, after which they must turn away, and an adult removes one of the objects. After that, the children again look at the “exposition” and must remember what has disappeared from here.

Fairy tale quiz

Fairy tale quiz is also one of the interesting competitions for children’s birthday. Here you need to come up with a series of questions about famous nursery rhymes, cartoons and fairy tales, and provide prizes for correct answers – toys, chocolate medals, etc.

Board games

Mini contests for children can be represented by favorite board games that the whole family loves to play. Although in our time they have been supplanted by tablets and cartoons, it is quite possible to find a place for them at a children’s holiday: which is thrown with a dice. These games are good for companies, children of different ages can participate in them. In addition, in modern games, the chips are made unusual, and the manufacturers accompany the games with exciting tasks.

Flashcards

Fun and colorful games are now available for children of all ages. With them you can play Shuffle, Dobble, Doubles, Memory and many other games – everything that can be found on the Internet.

Guess What You Eat

This delicious game is suitable for all ages. Children are asked to close their eyes and taste something edible that an adult puts into their open mouths. This is a very funny contest, because it turns out that it is not so easy to determine the taste of a dish without seeing it.

Outdoor games

“Cold-hot”

The game is a kind of classic hide-and-seek. An adult hides some toy in the room, and the task of the children is to find it, following the clues from the words “cold” and “hot”.

“Magic Tunnel”

For this game you will need a children’s tunnel, but it may well be replaced by a small table or chair that a child can crawl under. His task is not just to climb into the tunnel, but to get out of there in a new guise, portraying someone: an animal or a fairy-tale character. Other children must guess who it is that got out of the magic tunnel. The one who guesses correctly goes into the magical tunnel himself.

Ball games

Children’s birthday contests for 4 years include good old fun, in which tasks for erudition, quick wit, fun and moving elements were combined. So, in the game “edible-inedible”, the leader seats the children in a row and, in turn, throws a ball to each child, pronouncing the word. If the word means an edible object, then the ball must be caught, and if it is inedible, then push it back with your hands. In another version, the children stand in a circle, and the leader throws a ball to one of them and asks them to name a color, fruit, vegetable or flower. Children need to simultaneously catch the ball and remember the appropriate object.

Role-playing games

Children most of all love it when 6-year-old children’s birthday contests contain role-playing games. In order for the company of children to have plenty of fun, you can offer it to temporarily become brave Indians, overcoming obstacles, fighting hostile tribes and performing funny dances. You can transform into brave knights, beautiful princesses or fire-breathing dragons, characters from fairy tales or cartoons – the choice here is unlimited. Of course, such contests are made with their own hands, so parents will have to try hard by creating costumes and attributes. In addition, they themselves can participate in entertainment together with the children, releasing a child hiding in the depths of their souls for a short time.

Competitions for children 4-12 years old

It is most convenient to think about holding competitions at a children’s birthday party if all children present at the celebration are of the same age. However, often, especially for the birthday of preschoolers, not only peers are invited, but also relatives with their children, sisters and brothers – then a variety of children’s ages can be represented at the celebration. This happens because the child himself still lacks his peer friends, so relatives of all ages come instead of them, who know the birthday boy from a young age and are happy to congratulate him. In this case, birthday contest ideas for kids will just require a bit more effort from the parents, but in the end, the kids themselves will find ways to start interacting better, and such contact between them will bring invaluable teamwork experience to the younger ones.

“Tails”

This game involves pairs of players, each of which is tied around the waist with a rope so that a small “tail” hangs from behind. The task of the players is to be the first to catch the opponent by the tail and prevent him from doing the same. This fun competition is good to spend with fervent music. The game trains reaction and dexterity.

Want to see even more fun and interesting contests? Then follow the link and read our other article about children’s competitions.

“Collective Art”

To play this game, children need to be divided into 2 teams. The first members of each team draw the head and neck on the top of their sheets, while the rest of the participants do not see what exactly is drawn. Then the presenter wraps the top of the sheet, covering the image, and only the lower part of the neck remains visible. After that, the second player approaches the sheet and continues the drawing. Then the host wraps this part of the sheet as well, leaving only the lower part of the lines of the drawing. So gradually the drawing grows down, and all team members take turns putting their hands on it. At the end, the presenter unfolds both sheets and everyone looks at the resulting image with surprise. Such contests for children at the birthday of 6 years old perfectly develop their imagination.

“Artistic Relay Race”

This game, which develops creative imagination and thinking, the ability to work in a team, is interesting, but calm. Children are divided into two teams, which are given the task of drawing an animal or other object in a certain time. At the same time, in one approach, each participant can draw one line (straight line, oval, circle, etc.). In the end, that team wins, the drawing of which will more closely resemble the intended object.

“Candy on a fishing rod”

Instead of a fishing hook, you need to tie a candy to a fishing line by a candy wrapper. With the help of a fishing rod, you need to bring the candy to your mouth, unfold it without the help of your hands and eat it. The child who completes it the fastest wins. This game develops dexterity and coordination.

Balloon Volleyball

Thanks to this exciting game, children develop dexterity, reaction, and coordination of movements. Children need to be divided into two teams, put chairs at a distance of 1 meter from each other, seat all the players on them. A rope stretched between chairs in the middle of the floor indicates a grid separating teams. Then a kind of volleyball begins, in which you need to throw the ball over the rope, and the players are forbidden to take the ball in their hands (you can only push it with your palms) and get up from the chairs. If the ball hits the floor in the opponent’s half, the team gets a point. The game can be continued up to 15 points.

“Nesmeyana”

Thinking about how to spend a children’s birthday at home, it is useful to choose contests that develop communication skills, ingenuity and imagination in children, like the next “Nesmeyana” contest. One of the children is chosen as Princess Nesmeyana and sits on a chair in front of the rest of the children. The rest of the children should try to make the “princess” laugh, while you can’t touch her. The one who succeeds becomes the next Nesmeyana himself.

“Guess”

Before starting the game with the children, a certain topic is chosen (holiday, animals, furniture, etc.), after which the leader thinks of an object corresponding to the chosen topic. Players must guess what was chosen using clarifying questions, to which the driver can only answer “yes” and “no”. The first one to guess what he has planned becomes the leader himself. With the help of this game, children train communication skills, develop thinking.

Hold the balloon

Children’s birthday parties at home often require a lot of space, but not this one. Two pairs of players take part here. Each pair must be placed in a circle formed by a hoop or a circle drawn on the floor. Each pair is given a balloon. Their task is to try to keep the ball in the air as long as possible by blowing on it, but without touching it with their hands, so that it does not fly out of their circle. The pair that can hold their ball the longest wins. With the help of this game, reaction, agility, coordination, breathing apparatus are trained.

“Eskimo blind man’s buff”

Among the children, a leader is chosen, who is put on thick mittens on his hands and is blindfolded. After that, children come up to him in turn, whom he must recognize by touch. If he succeeds, then the identified child becomes the driver, and if he makes a mistake, he makes attempts with the following players. With the help of such a competition, children develop memory and spatial imagination.

Wickers

Active and fun birthday contests can train mindfulness, and the best game for this is the Wickers game. Children need to be divided into two equal teams and choose a leader. Chairs are placed in a row, on which the first team sits, and opposite a chair is placed, near which the leader stands. The members of the second team stand behind the backs of the players sitting on the chairs. The host looks around at the seated players and winks at one of them. The player who winked should quickly move to a chair near the leader, and the task of the player standing behind him is to grab him in time to prevent escape. If the escape is successful, then this player himself becomes the leader.

“Broken Phone”

With the help of the fun game “Broken Phone”, children imperceptibly hone their attention and hearing. The host whispers a phrase or word into the ear of the first player, after which he turns to his neighbor and in the same way conveys to him what he heard. So along the chain, the message reaches the last player, who says out loud what he heard, and the leader loudly says what he himself conveyed. After that, the leader goes to the end of the chain, and the first player becomes the leader.

“Confusion”

Children love cool competitions where they can practice thinking, logic and attentiveness. All children need to be built in a circle, holding hands. Then the driver turns to the side, and the children begin to climb over each other as they like, but without releasing their hands. After that, the driver, also without opening his hands, must unravel this tangle.

“Composing a fairy tale for the birthday boy”

The facilitator opens a book or magazine on the first page that comes across and blindly points a finger at a random word. The first storyteller needs to come up with a phrase in which this word will participate. Similarly, words are given to all other participants in the game. You can even come up with not one, but several proposals. As a result, a funny story will be born in the game, all that remains is to write it down on beautifully designed paper and hand it to the birthday man. Such games develop imagination and thinking, replenish vocabulary.

“Three, thirteen, thirty”

Before the game, the facilitator explains to the children what number indicates this or that action, for example, 3 – hands on the belt, 13 – hands up, 30 – hands forward. Then the children line up in a line at a distance of arms outstretched to the sides. Next, the host calls the agreed numbers in random order, and the children must perform the appropriate movements. Gradually, the pace of the leader accelerates. The one who lost his way and performed another movement stands next to the leader and tries to knock down the rest of the players with incorrect movements. At the end of the game, the most attentive and unprovocative player remains. Such contests for guests on a child’s birthday train reaction and attentiveness.

Claps

Each player receives a number and stands in a circle. Then they all begin to clap rhythmically, alternating two claps on their hands with two on their knees. One of the players, when clapping his hands, repeats his own number twice, and when clapping his knees, the number of another player. The one whose number has sounded, with the next clapping of his hands, already calls his number, and with claps on the knees, the number of the next player. Anyone who loses this rhythm, forgets his number or calls a number that has already left the game, is out of the game. The last two players left in the circle are declared the winners. This fun trains reaction, memory and attentiveness.

“Liberation Action”

The dynamic game “Liberation Action” promotes the development of coordination, attention, hearing, reaction in the lead player, and in the other players – reaction and dexterity. The participants of the game sit on chairs set in a circle. In the center of the circle, a “prisoner” with his hands and feet tied and a “guard” who is blindfolded are seated. The task of the “liberators” is to untie the prisoner, and the guard is to prevent them. As soon as he touches one of the liberators, he is out of the game and removed from the circle. The one who succeeds, without being caught, to free the “captive”, himself turns into a “guard”.

“Hunting”

Active contests for a child’s birthday can develop emancipation, dexterity, coordination of movements. In the game “Hunting”, the names of the participants in the game are written down on cards, which are then shuffled and distributed to the players. The player dances to the music and at the same time quietly peeps what name is written on the card he got. At the moment when the music stops, the hunter must catch the prey, whose name is written on his card. But he also hunts for his prey. The result is real chaos! After that, the cards are collected, shuffled again, dealt out and the game continues.

“Waves in a circle”

Make a circle of closely spaced chairs, the number of which should correspond to the number of players. The driver is in the center of the circle, and the rest of the players sit on chairs. As a result, one chair remains free. The driver tends to sit on a free chair, but the players must prevent him from doing this with their movements. If the driver has time to sit on a free chair, then the player who missed him becomes the driver himself. Players move according to the driver’s commands “right” (clockwise one chair), “left”, or chaos (participants quickly change places, and the driver tries to take any free seat). The driver becomes the player who sat on the chair, which was free in front of the “chaos” command. Children train reaction, dexterity, attentiveness in the game.

“Siamese twins”

All children should be divided into two teams, in which there will be several couples. Couples stand side by side and hug each other with one hand. As a result, each “Siamese twin” has one right and one left hand. This creature needs to run to the candy plate, unwrap the candy and eat it, feeding both heads. The winner is the couple that can handle all the candies the fastest. A variant of the task for the “Siamese twins” is to make an envelope out of paper, tie laces on the shoes. This game strengthens teamwork skills.

“Fisherman and goldfish”

The participants of this game line up in a circle, and the leader, who is in the center, spins the rope and the rope with a knot at the end. The end of the rope must pass under the feet of the players, and they must jump in time to avoid touching it. The one who is touched by the rope is out of the game for a while. The game goes on until there is only one player left, who becomes the winner. It develops agility, coordination, endurance and attentiveness.

“Replica of the monument”

With the help of this game, which develops mindfulness in children, they gradually get rid of shyness. Among the children you need to choose two. One will be the “copier”, he is taken out of the room and blindfolded. The second will be a “monument”, at this moment he should take an interesting pose in which to freeze. Next, a “blind copyist” is introduced, who must determine the position of the “monument” by touch and take exactly the same.

Broken Fax

In this game, children are seated one after the other so that each next one looks at the back of the head of the previous one. The first and last players each receive a pen and a sheet of paper. The last player draws a simple figure on paper, and then reproduces it by swiping his finger along the back in front of the seated player. He, in turn, draws with his finger on the back of the predecessor what he felt with his back. The player sitting first transfers his feelings to paper, after which the initial and final drawings are compared. With the help of this game, memory, motor skills of hands, mindfulness are trained.

Cockfighting

The floor is divided by a ribbon or rope, on both sides of which two players stand in the starting position – on one leg, facing each other, with their hands clasped behind their backs. Everyone should strive to cross the border to the side of the enemy without touching the floor with the second foot and without disengaging their hands. At the same time, it is still impossible to allow the enemy to enter your territory. You can only push with your chest or shoulder. Anyone who breaks these rules is considered a loser. The game develops strength and coordination.

Knees

Players must be seated close to each other, placing their left hand on the right knee of the neighbor on the left, and the right hand on the left knee of the opposite neighbor. If the circle is not closed, then the extreme players put one hand on their knee. In the game, you should quickly clap your knee with your hand, without violating a certain sequence. If someone clapped out of time or even just raised his hand, then he hides this hand. There can be multiple or just one winner. To make the game more interesting, you need to maintain its high pace. It trains reaction, motor skills of hands, coordination, attentiveness.

Caterpillar

Players stand one after another and put their hands on the belt of the player in front, forming a caterpillar. The first becomes the head of this caterpillar, and the last becomes the tail. Then music sounds, and the caterpillar begins to crawl forward, while the head makes different dance steps with any parts of the body, and the rest should try to repeat these movements. Tired, the “head” turns to the next player, strokes his head, and then becomes the tail of the caterpillar. Emancipation, coordination, attentiveness are trained here.

Introductory Part

To begin with, we want to voice some important nuances that are useful to remember before you start preparing for a children’s birthday:

  • Think about the venue and the place where it is convenient to hold games for children. Maybe somewhere you will make room for outdoor games or go out into the yard. The easiest way to do this is in the country, but it can also be done in the courtyard of an apartment building in good weather.
  • You can discuss and choose competitions with the whole family – connect your children to this, they will feel like real organizers of holidays. But leave for them a few contests that they will not know about – so they will be more interested in the holiday itself.
  • When choosing competitions, consider at least approximately how long each one will take. Calculate the total.
  • Collect all competitions in a single document and print it out. This will make it easier for you to navigate.
  • Write down what props are needed for each competition. Don’t forget to buy everything you need in advance.
  • At the beginning of the holiday, let the children get used to it a little. If the children do not know each other, then help them get to know each other, and only then start the program.
  • Do not forget to remove everything unnecessary from the room, look carefully so that there are no sharp objects around, protruding corners of furniture, and so on. If it is possible to arrange a sweet table in one room, and make as much space as possible in the other, this would be an ideal option.
  • Don’t expect everything to be perfect. Allow yourself to improvise if needed.
  • Do not try to “cram” as many contests into the program as possible and by all means hold them all. Let your script be flexible.
  • Watch both the time and the mood of the children.
  • Do not forget about the surroundings – balloons, a poster with congratulations, candles on the cake. All these seemingly small things create a holiday atmosphere. The costume of a fairy tale character, whom the birthday boy loves, will help you to enter the role of the presenter. You can rent it, usually there are such services in every city.
  • Think about the age of the children when preparing – what is interesting to children at 4 years old is unlikely to be of much interest to a child who is 12 years old. If you have a company of different ages, make contests for different age categories and hold them in turn.

Competitions for toddlers

Young children are not good at team games. Our selection of simple contests for young children will come to the rescue.

Chamomile

Together with the children you make a camomile with petals out of paper. At the festival itself, children take turns pulling the petals and completing the tasks that are written on them. Tasks are selected according to the age of the participants. Let them be more mobile for children 5-6 years old, and more creative for children 7-8 years old. Although, of course, it depends on the children themselves.

For example, tasks can be:

  • 10 jumps on one leg.
  • Shout ka-ka-river 5 times.
  • Bark a song.
  • Recite a verse.
  • Dance.
  • Draw someone and so on.

Kangaroos in Kindergarten

Fun game for kids. Children are divided into 2 groups, parents can also participate. On the “start” command, they jump to the designated place – “kindergarten” and throw a soft toy there (the number of soft toys for each team is determined in advance, for example, 10 pieces). Then they also jump back. And so on in turn. If parents take part in the game, then their task, on the contrary, is to take back all the children (soft toys) from the garden. The team that completes the task first wins.

Competitions for older children

Key and Lock

A couple of volunteers are called for the competition. Each of them is given several padlocks and a bunch of keys. The first person to open all the locks wins. The game develops not only coordination and motor skills, but also logical thinking. The fact is that most of the keys can be dismissed already by their appearance, so children learn to “turn on the brain”, and not just mechanically perform actions. If the children didn’t think of this before and tried to insert all the keys without exception, then you can tell them about this “secret” after the game.

This competition is best suited for children aged 6-7.

“Unseen little animal”

Children are divided into teams with an equal number of people. Each is given a piece of paper or a large sheet, which is desirable to attach to a magnetic wall, a board or a regular wall in the room (you can use masking tape so as not to damage the wallpaper). Cheerful fast music is included. The task of each participant in turn is to run up to the sheet – draw some part of the animal and return to the team. You can designate a time for this – for example, 2 minutes or let the children do a few “circles”. After the team completes, they look at what they got.

For older children, you can make an addition – the team comes up with a name for the resulting animal and tells a story about it. This competition is usually interesting to play for both 7-8 year old children and those who are already 9-10 years old.

Competitions for teenagers

Teenagers are not averse to having fun, but their games should be more adult, then they will feel “at ease”. Teenagers also love fun contests and games for kids at home for their birthday. No matter how you think that they are already adults – they are also children. Below we offer competitions that are suitable for children 12-14 years old.

Congratulate the birthday boy

Different letters are written on strips of paper in advance (one on each card). Each guest draws a card with a specific letter. Now he needs to come up with a congratulation for the birthday man, in which most of the words will begin with the letter that he pulled out.

Dance Karaoke

If your teenager has a game console, you can use it to entertain guests. For example, one of the games is Just Dance is very popular with teenagers and causes a lot of emotions. This is a kind of dance battle – two participants dance to the composition, repeating the movements from the screen, and then each of them receives a certain number of points, depending on how similar the movements were to the “original”. If you don’t have a console, but have a desire, you can find a video from the game on YouTube (enter the query “just dance video”) and turn it on on a large TV.

Then the winner can be determined by the guests with their applause.

“Juicer”

Participants of the game are given half an orange or several fruits and cups. The goal is to squeeze out as much juice as possible. This game can also be played in teams, then the participants pour all the cups into one jar and the team results are compared.

Music competitions for children

If you don’t have a musical education, this is no reason to deny yourself the pleasure of organizing something like that. The simplest thing is to arrange a musical battle.

“Musical battle”

Children are divided into 2 teams – each chooses a song and perform in turn in front of each other. You can prepare options in advance or print out the words. Give them 10 minutes to prepare, let them choose a soloist, backing vocals and musicians, or sing all together. You can also prepare some props. For example, bright skirts for girls or wigs. After the performances, give the teams prizes in nominations. For example, for artistry and for excellent vocals. Let all the children feel that they tried not in vain. And, of course, don’t forget the prizes.

Guess the Melody

You can do the good old Guess the Melody. Find “backing tracks” of different melodies on the Internet, save them in a separate playlist. The one who first guessed the song and the artist receives a token from you. In the end, the one who has more of them receives a gift and, of course, universal recognition.

Dance Contests

Dance Contests for kids coolly liberate them, allow them to feel their body, plus it’s always a lot of fun. The only recommendation is that this should be done before the children have sat down at the table and stuffed their tummies. It is important to choose fun music or cut it. Prepare tracks in advance so you don’t search in a hurry.

“Do as I do”

Turn on cheerful music, the children stand in a circle. The first child goes into the circle and shows the movement. Everyone repeats after him. Then another kid replaces him and shows his dance move – everyone also repeats after him. And so on in turn. An important rule – you can not show the movement that has already been. Arrange the children so that the more liberated children come out first.

Disco

You can simply arrange a disco for children to modern songs, which they sometimes know better than their parents. Consult with your children about this – what songs are considered fashionable now. If you prepare balloons in advance and throw them on the “dance floor”, the children will be very pleased. You can also use different kinds of confetti, crackers, rain, etc.

Children equally well perceive the opportunity to have fun with music both at 4-5 years old and at 11 years old and even older.

Sweet contests

Collect a cake

Children are divided into two or three groups. The optimal number of children in the team: 3-5 people. The host gives them “products” – components for treats. Their task is to “collect a pie” along the chain, and the last one in the team eats it. After that, he runs to the beginning of the chain and the process repeats. Here you need to be careful and not rush the children so that they do not choke. But this process is very exciting. The main thing is to calculate the amount of ingredients well.

What can be the ingredients of a “pie”:

  • cracker;
  • marmalade;
  • marshmallow;
  • a piece of chocolate;
  • coconut flakes.

If the children are already skilled enough, then the process can be complicated. For example, someone will get the task of spreading a cake with butter or chocolate paste.

Another variation is that children make a cake but do not eat it. After the results are summed up, who won this competition, a tea party with eating is already arranged. Then you will also train endurance and willpower, little cooks. The competition is suitable for children 8-9years. If you decide to arrange a culinary master class among the guests, this will be aerobatics.

“Guess the Animal”

For this competition, you will need to stock up on candies with animal figurines. For example, “Children’s souvenir” or buy molds with animals, pour chocolate into it and let it harden. Blindfolded children touch the figures (each gets their own) and say what kind of animal it is. If the child finds it difficult to answer, then the participants can prompt him. For example, to think of describing this animal in words, without using words of the same root, or to depict what sounds this animal makes.

Competitions at the table

Table entertainment at a child’s birthday is not only competitions and riddles. We would like to invite you to try another interesting option.

“Funny story”

Can be conducted from 2 people or more – the more participants, the funnier your story becomes. So, all participants are given a piece of paper and a pen, you ask them if they want to try themselves as writers?

For example, your contest might start like this: “Guys, who wants to be a writer? Now we will have the opportunity to try this case together! So let’s get started! We take our sheets and write on top: When and where did this story happen. We do not show anyone what you wrote. After that, we bend the sheet so that your phrase is not visible and pass the sheet to another participant on the left. We write the continuation of your story on a new sheet. Children write a new phrase and pass the sheet around. It is important not to forget to bend the sheet well and pass it on. And so on until the final. Then everyone reads their story. It usually turns out to be a lot of fun.

The facilitator can look a little at what exactly they are writing in order to help the children better understand the rules.

We recommend the following story structure:

  • When and where did this happen?
  • Who are the participants in this story?
  • Who else was there?
  • What were they doing?
  • Why did they decide to do this?
  • What happened next?
  • What did the heroes do when it happened?
  • How did it all end?

Mobile competitions

Children are very fond of running, jumping and all kinds of relay races. Therefore, mobile contests and games for a children’s birthday are a great way to have fun. The main thing is that there is enough space.

Children’s birthday relay races

Relay races can be very different, for example, teams (from 3 people in each) must transfer water from a full glass to an empty one using a teaspoon or a tablespoon at speed. Accordingly, one glass stands at one end of the room, and the other at the opposite.

After the first glass is empty, the presenter compares who has more water in the second glasses – that team wins. Such a competition is best done on the country lawn, if suddenly you are celebrating your birthday there. Well, or just be ready to quickly wipe the floor, including so that children do not slip.

If there are a lot of children, the relay race can be done in pairs – for example, two people carry some object, holding it with their heads, stomachs, backs, etc. Surely many people remember running in bags, familiar to us from childhood – one person from the team they jump in bags to a chair, go around it and come back. The team helps to put the bag on the feet of the next participant and he jumps on. The host monitors compliance with the rules, the distance traveled and who will come first. By the way, a more modern and no less fun variation is running on bean bags. You also have to jump, but on horseback. It’s a lot of fun to both participate and watch this action from the sidelines. If you have at least two at home, or you still thought of renting them for your party, why not use them as props for the contest.

Funny contests

All children love to laugh. Invite them to play joke contests. Children are usually very cool actors, and if not, then a children’s birthday is a great occasion to show this skill. Organize a theater competition!

“Guess who”

Each child in turn portrays any animal without using words and sounds, and the rest guess. As soon as the child hears the correct answer, he takes his place, and a new actor enters the stage. You can agree in advance on topics that can be used in this competition – animals, birds, insects, professions, and so on. If you stock up on props, you can dress up children in various characters from fairy tales and films so that others can guess who it is. Children love to transform. Don’t forget to highlight each individual’s specific acting skills (for example: “Misha, you were very persuasive. Masha, you did such a good speech”) and give them small prizes. The especially brave ones can arrange a competition of parodies against each other, but there are risks that one of the guys will be offended. Therefore, do this only if you know the children and their characters well.

The game “Do not crush the egg”

One of the most courageous players is called to participate. You place it at the front of the room and lay eggs on the floor in front of it. Raw. So that he can see them. The rules are: the player must memorize the location of the eggs, then you blindfold him and he must pass through the “egg minefield” without stepping on and breaking a single egg (don’t panic, you won’t have to wash anything).

Children usually want to leave immediately, but it’s too late to refuse. As soon as your eyes are blindfolded, you quickly remove all the eggs, the child carefully follows the intended path, and the other children can hardly restrain their laughter. At the end, you untie his eyes and everyone laughs with him.

Intellectual

Various quizzes or riddles can be prepared for a child’s birthday. It is good to hold such competitions at the “warming up” when the children have recently gathered. You can search the net for quizzes for your age. Or just take any children’s encyclopedia about animals, about cars, etc. and write out interesting facts from there. Children can answer open-ended questions or choose from the options provided. You can take a narrower topic, especially if you know that all the guests love one cartoon – prepare questions specifically for it.

If you have a family birthday and only relatives and their children came to visit, prepare a quiz about your family. It seems that the first job of dad, where mom and dad met, the number of the kindergarten Kolya went to, what word Lena spoke incorrectly before the 1st grade, etc. It will be fun and pleasant to remember some happy moments.

Competitions for girls

Beauty

This competition can be held with or without mothers. The participants are divided into 2 teams. You are preparing props: 2 chairs, 2 headscarves and 2 large skirts – one item for each of the teams. The task of the participants in turn is to run to the chair, put on a headscarf with a skirt, sit down and say some phrase: “I am beautiful!”. After that, the participant takes everything off herself and runs back. The following is taken over. You can add the competition and other elements of clothing to your taste.

“Dress the doll”

A pair of participants is selected. In front of each is a doll and a pile of clothes. The task is to dress the doll as quickly as possible. You can play against the clock or against the clock. If the girls are older, you can ask them to comment on the kit and tell where to put it on.

Competitions for boys

“Sumo wrestlers”

A very fun and entertaining competition is best suited for boys. A couple of daredevils are called to the “ring”. Everyone gets a big daddy’s t-shirt or just a large t-shirt, puts it on, and a pillow is “stuffed” under the t-shirt. A circle is drawn around the children. If you play outside, you can draw a circle with chalk, and then erase or put a gymnastic hoop. Scarves laid out in a circle, ribbon, rope are suitable for the home. The task of sumo wrestlers is to push each other out of the circle with their soft pillow sides without hands.

“Head and ball”

Two participants are called, each gets the same ball (if there is only one ball, this competition can be held for a while in turn). The task is to push the ball with your head, without touching it with your hands and feet, and, as quickly as possible, bring it to the finish line or go through a certain route and return back.
