The downside is that changes are often difficult to implement in their home environment upon return, as well as making friends with a large group of other teenagers who also struggle with mental health. 10 Things that require a doctor’s prescription

Of course, everyone knows that you will definitely need a doctor’s prescription to buy drugs containing drugs. However, depending on the country where you are or live, you may be required to have a prescription to buy completely different things, some of which are so ordinary and everyday that we are surprised when they require a prescription to purchase.

Sex toys

Until recently in Sandy Springs, Georgia in the United States, you would have to provide a doctor’s prescription to buy sex toys. The restriction of such goods from free sale was adopted by the city council.

However, the city allowed the sale and use of such sex toys for medical, scientific, legal or judicial purposes. While the law did not provide for the need for the use of sex toys for legal and judicial purposes, the responsibility was placed on doctors, who had to determine this need and write a prescription for patients in need.

In March 2017, restrictions on the sale of intimate goods were lifted.

Condoms

Are you on holiday in Ayala Alabang and need condoms? Don’t forget to go to the doctor and get a prescription!

Ayala Alabang is one of the most expensive places in the Philippine capital, also known for its confrontations between conservative Roman Catholics and the liberal-minded population. Most Filipinos are Roman Catholics, for whom any artificial intervention in the process of conceiving and having children is not acceptable, including the use of condoms. Under the pretext of birth control, a law was passed banning the free sale of condoms in the area.

Of course, the need for such bills causes great doubt and dissatisfaction among other citizens who do not share this position. This topic remains today the most discussed among the population.

Chewing gum

Chewing gum, or chewing gum as we used to call it in the common people, has been banned from free sale in Singapore since 1992. And although the ban is still in force, today it has become more simplified. In 2004, during negotiations between the United States and Singapore, an agreement was concluded for the import and sale of goods into the country, with the name “therapeutic” or “therapeutic” gum changed.

Those who want to get medicated gum (such as nicotine gum or dentifrice gum) must be screened and get a prescription from a doctor or pharmacist. For these reasons, chewing gum is sold only in pharmacies.

Obtaining a prescription is only an intermediate and by no means the last stage in the purchase of such products. When buying, the seller must ask for an identity card and enter the buyer in the register. The seller who released the buyer without a prescription or without checking his passport data is punishable by a fine of 3 thousand dollars or deprivation of liberty for up to two years.

Alcohol

In 1920, the United States considered a new bill (known to us as Prohibition) to prohibit the free sale of alcohol throughout the country. Of course, understanding the level of demand for alcohol, none of the entrepreneurs could afford to lose such a large part of the market that new, “medical alcohol” quickly replaced ordinary alcohol. It was all the same alcoholic drinks, with only one difference – to buy it, you had to have a prescription from a doctor.

Medicinal alcohol was a successful attempt not only to get around the “dry law” in America at that time, but also to become a separate niche in the business. Doctors prescribed medical alcohol as a remedy for many diseases. In the case of depression, colds, headaches and even cancer, the doctor wrote out a prescription for patients to buy alcohol. Some even saw it as a way to make good money by selling such recipes for $5-7 apiece. Since the prescription was written out for only ten days, the “sick” always returned to the doctor for new ones.

Interesting fact:

Winston Churchill, during a visit to the states in 1931, was also forced to obtain a prescription for medicinal alcohol. On arrival in New York, he was hit by a car, although Ser Winston did not suffer much damage to his health, he saw this as a good chance to get as many medical alcohol prescriptions as possible.

Cigarettes

Quite recently in the West it was the absolute norm to write a prescription for cigarettes to asthma patients. Of course, we are not talking about ordinary cigarettes that we are used to seeing with us, but those in which there is no nicotine and contains a component that helps in the fight against atstma – stramonium.

Although tobacco smoking was only gaining popularity, like smoking opium and cannabis, people learned about the dangers of smoking and began to form anti-smoking campaigns. However, doctors and other pharmaceutical experts did not rush to conclusions and ignored all the negative consequences of smoking, but, on the contrary, insisted on its necessity and usefulness for the body. Everything changed after the end of World War II. Any kind of tobacco products began to be perceived as a harmful and pernicious habit. At the same time, the consumption of cigarettes with stramonium was also reduced to zero.

Female condoms

Female condoms (internal condoms) were not available over the counter in the United States. But there is only one reason for this – money. F2C is the only brand and manufacturer of female condoms. And even despite the monopoly, their sales left much to be desired.

In order to correct this situation and increase sales, F2C organized a subsidiary company “Veru-Health” by changing its business model in 2017. These changes were related to the purchase of condoms and counted on the recently adopted birth control program. Under this program, female condoms began to be issued to women by insurance companies, which in turn had to purchase them from Vera Health.

However, not all citizens were satisfied with such changes. The main problem was that people without medical insurance had to buy female condoms at a price of $20, when initially their price did not exceed $4. This difference in price increased the rejection of potential buyers. Since female condoms were used in most cases for anal sex, the increase in cost has led to an increase in the number of sexually transmitted diseases.

Nowadays, female condoms have almost lost their popularity, as they were replaced by regular male condoms. But, despite this, they can still be found in many pharmacies in Western countries.

Electronic Cigarettes

Today there is more and more debate and discussion about electronic cigarettes. And while manufacturers are promoting this invention under various pretexts, one of which is a way to combat smoking, critics hold a different, opposite point of view. Opponents of electronic cigarettes are convinced that smoking an electronic cigarette can inevitably lead to smoking regular, tobacco cigarettes. And since fruit flavors are used in electronics, not only adults, but also children can fall under their influence.

The Department of Health and Welfare of England proposed that electronic cigarettes be placed on the list of goods restricted for free sale, and their further distribution should be carried out only by prescription. In the future, only those who want to quit smoking will be able to buy electronic cigarettes. Also, according to recent reports, it has become known that such cigarettes reduce harm for passive smokers by 95% than regular cigarettes. According to the latest data, thanks to them, 20,000 people quit smoking in the country every year.

Vibrator

At a time when the female body was still poorly understood, it was the absolute norm for physicians to prescribe a “pelvic massage” (as the process of stimulating the female genital organ was previously called) in order to treat hysteria.

Such a massage was carried out directly by the doctor himself, the purpose of which was to bring the woman to orgasm. For the doctors themselves, such therapy was considered a very unpleasant and humiliating process.

Everything changed dramatically after Dr. Mortimer Grenville invented the vibrator in 1880. And although the device was originally intended to treat muscle pain, its use for the treatment of female hysteria was not long in coming.

The vibrator was officially recognized as a medical device and was used by doctors as a means to help bring a woman with hysteria to orgasm. Ultimately, the invention “migrated” to the global market and became available to any woman. Thus, female hysteria was gradually reduced to zero, and eventually disappeared altogether.

Chocolate

If we look at chocolate from a scientific point of view, we will certainly come across the fact that it is a drug. Not only is chocolate addictive, it affects the same area of the brain as heroin. The Aztecs used chocolate as a remedy for all diseases, others used it as an ingredient in various potions and potions. In Europe, chocolate was used as a medicine that a doctor prescribed to a patient, but knowing its taste, people never missed the opportunity to simply enjoy this product.

Sometimes doctors used chocolate as an additive to other medicines, so that bitter and disgusting mixtures would be more pleasant for the sick to consume. Obviously, few dared to swallow the powder made from the earthworm. However, by mixing it with a small amount of chocolate, the meal was more favorable for both the doctor and the patient.

The growing popularity of chocolate did not pass by those who are not averse to making easy money. Realizing its demand, they began to sell it under the guise of a panacea – a cure for all diseases. Customers were advised to consume chocolate after melting it in hot water. As it turned out later, it was not chocolate at all that had healing properties, but water, which, after boiling, becomes safer and does not contain harmful organisms.

Heroin

Heroin is by far one of the hardest and most powerful drugs on earth. But we came to this conclusion not so long ago. A hundred years ago, doctors considered it a medicinal product with healing properties. It was the norm to prescribe heroin for coughs, tuberculosis, and pneumonia. Initially, absolutely anyone could buy heroin at any pharmacy, and moreover, parents gave it to their children at bedtime.

This invention and production belongs to the German pharmaceutical company Bayer. It was originally developed as a substitute for morphine. Some experts in the field of medicine began to doubt its beneficial properties and the appropriateness of its unlimited use. Despite their correctness and fears, their hunches were ignored by the authorities and leading pharmaceutical companies until people with heroin addiction began to turn to hospitals.

These circumstances forced Bayer to shut down production in 1913. In 1914, the States introduced a partial restriction on the sale of heroin.
