Our Ozark Leadership Team

Ms. Tonya

Program director

Hello, my name is Tonya and I am the program director at Little Sunshine’s Playhouse and Preschool® of Ozark. I am so proud to be a part of this outstanding team.

I have been with the company since 2008 and I have learned so much, including that quality childcare is something that is sought after every day. It is my passion to be a part of a company where a high-quality team works together to provide exceptional childcare, and I have found that working for Little Sunshine’s Playhouse.

I am currently working on obtaining my degree in early childhood education and am so happy to be putting it to use with Little Sunshine’s Playhouse.

On a more personal note, my husband and I were married in April of 2014 and have a beautiful daughter who attended Little Sunshine’s when she was younger. I’m so excited to continue my journey with this incredible company and look forward to introducing you to our Little Sunshine’s Playhouse family.

Ms. Traci

Assistant Director

Hello, my name is Traci, and I am honored to be your Assistant Director at Little Sunshine’s Playhouse and Preschool of Ozark.

I have lived in the Ozarks since I was a child and absolutely love it here. I attended Ozark Public Schools and started working in early childhood right after I graduated high school. I love seeing our students’ faces as they learn new things and make new friends. Witnessing these special moments is what I love most about what I do.

I started my incredible journey with Little Sunshine’s Playhouse in 2013. I began as an assistant teacher and then was given the opportunity to become the lead teacher in the Pre-k room, then shortly after that I became the head teacher. I am so grateful to work for such a caring and compassionate company.

On a personal note, I have an incredible son and when and not at work that is who I spend most of my time with. We enjoy going outdoors and going to the lake in the summer. Anytime we are together we have a ton of fun!

I cannot wait to grow with you and your families.

What Our Ozark Families Are Saying

Lindsay

We are loving LSP of Ozark! Our sons teacher is so engaged with the kids and in my experience the parents too. She is very creative and spends a lot of time time making crafts and fun projects to match the monthly theme and her hard work does not go unnoticed!! My son is thriving, he is learning so much, and he is happy at drop-off and not complaining about having to go to school as we experienced in the past at another daycare. I feel confident the teachers, directors and staff are taking good care of him, and as a single mama, that peace of mind is everything! Highly recommend!!!

Allison

I absolutely love Little Sunshine’s in Ozark. The teachers and director are great! I do not have a single complaint. They take care of my daughter and she is learning so much, she even came home and was showing me the sign language words she learned and she is 3. I would highly recommend this facility and I know they are taking the best care of my daughter. Thank you 🙂

Nicole

Little Sunshine’s is a fantastic place to be! They have high quality daycare for children 6 weeks through age 5 with an amazing Reggio inspired curriculum. All the teachers are passionate about teaching and you can tell that they love their jobs! I love being part of the Little Sunshine family.

review and plot of the series, how it ends and is it worth watching

    Valentin Shakun

revealed all the secrets of the Ozark

    Author profile

On April 29, the last episodes of Ozark, the Netflix crime series about financier Marty Bird and his family, were released.

In the story, the characters are forced to launder money for a drug cartel in a tiny American town.

Ozark has two Emmy awards and nine more nominations for the most prestigious award in the world of TV shows, as well as excellent ratings from viewers and critics. And it’s probably is the best show for those who miss Breaking Bad. There is a personal drama of relationships within the family, and a similar criminal story tied to the drug business.

By the end of the series, we tell you why the show is worth watching, even if you missed everything. And at the same time, we share our impressions of the final.

The main role in the series is played by Jason Bateman, better known for comedies like Horrible Bosses. Source: Netflix

    Reason #1

Fascinating storyline with a dozen bright characters

At the beginning of The Ozark, an emissary from the Navarro Cartel executes partner Marty Byrd for stealing laundered money. At gunpoint, Byrd hastily concocts an escape plan: leave Chicago with his family for the Ozark Lake District in Missouri. There, earn the stolen amount and continue laundering money. In pursuit of Marty, the FBI, for which his deceased comrade worked, set off.

Upon arrival, the financier begins to buy out businesses, from a cheap motel to a small bar. By doing this, he attracts the attention of two families – the poppy-growing Snells and petty criminals, the Langmores. Ruth, the only girl in the Langmore family, accidentally learns that Byrd is a money launderer and asks for a job with him. At the same time, FBI agent Roy Petty is on Marty’s heels, ready to do anything to send the businessman to jail.

Ozark has three main storylines. These are the relationship between Marty and his family, a crime drama about drug mafia money laundering, and the conflict between the Byrds and local urban clans. Source: Netflix

Over time, the characters in the series become more and more, as it should be in a massive crime saga. At the same time, each storyline is intertwined with the main story about money laundering.

When watching, there is no feeling that the characters appear out of nowhere or do something for no particular reason. The creators managed to effectively connect a lot of very different, sometimes very contradictory characters and their personal stories.

Unfortunate Ruth dreams of breaking free from her family and helping her brother get an education. In Marty Bird, she finds a replacement for her abusive father in prison. Or here’s another story: local shepherd Mason Young turns to religion after being seriously injured. The Berds take the opportunity and promise to help build the church. Without knowing it, the pastor gets involved in the affairs of local drug dealers. Of course, this doesn’t end well. Birds are fighting for survival and are not particularly worried about the victims.

    /moon-knight-who/

Should I watch Moon Knight with Oscar Isaac?

    Reason #2

This is a rare series in the Southern Gothic genre.

Ozark is not just put in the name of the series. The location dictates the style of the show. Ozark is a representative of the so-called Southern Gothic: a genre that focuses on the life of the provincial American South, issues of inequality, traditions and religion. A Streetcar Named Desire, The Sound and the Fury, and To Kill a Mockingbird are just a few of the most notable genre works.

It is not for nothing that one of the main lines in the series is the class conflict between the two central families: the prosperous citizens of the Byrds and the redneck mired in violence and crime – the Langmores. The latter do not even imagine that it is possible to live and earn in an honest way.

    /what-the-halo/

Is the Halo TV series the new Mandalorian? Does it look like games? Answering the main questions of the audience

Langmores personify the inhabitants of the region. For them, the Ozark is a wilderness where outcasts beaten by life seek salvation in religion and crime. The southern city does not accept the rules of outsiders like the Byrds, who embody the very American dream.

Julia Garner won two Emmy Awards for her portrayal of Ruth Langmore. Source: Netflix

Young Shepherd Mason Young is also a typical Southern Gothic character. At first, he seems to be a good friend of the main characters, but over time he becomes disillusioned with his own ideals.

Southern gothic is extremely rare in modern cinema these days — only Netflix’s The Devil Is Always Here comes to mind. “Ozark” can be a great entry point into this unusual genre.

    Reason #3

    Every scene matters in Ozark

In contrast to the conditional “Better Call Saul”, in “Ozark” there are no serious plot sagging and lyrical digressions: something important for the overall story happens in each scene.

Any minor character can suddenly remind of himself. The camera focuses on a seemingly unremarkable object, and after a few episodes, it is this detail that radically changes the development of the plot. Therefore, the series is not suitable for fans of background viewing, because this way you can miss something important.

    /better-watch-saul/

The final season of Better Call Saul has begun. Retelling the plot and explaining the greatness of the series

Many actors were kept in the dark about the fate of their heroes until the last. Source: Netflix

    Reason #4

The authors turn anxiety into an artistic device

Heroes are always hanging by a thread from death, facing moral dilemmas and always raising the stakes. The viewer feels in the place of Marty Bird, who is torn between the drug cartel, the inhabitants of the Ozarks and conflicts in the family. The creators in general professionally stir up the alarm. Even the most important heroes can be killed at any moment. Getting attached to anyone is useless.

The main characters get involved in new problems faster than they can solve old ones. Several times during the season, it seems that now the Byrd family is definitely the end. However, the financier and his family regularly manage to get out in the most unexpected way – and almost always at the very last moment. It is extremely exciting to watch this.

    /list/netflix-and-chill/

Netflix’s 15 Best Shows Right Now

Ozark’s dark style also adds to the unsettling atmosphere. The soundtrack is reminiscent of horror films in places, and the cold color scheme was chosen by the lead actor and director Jason Bateman. In 2019He won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing in a Drama Series for his work on Ozark.

For all its slowness, The Ozark almost does not allow the audience to take a breath from the next plot twist. Source: Netflix

    Reason #5

The Byrd family are the perfect anti-heroes

At first, Marty Byrd and his family seem to be just victims of circumstance trying to escape the drug cartel. Over time, it turns out that in this story there is not a single 100% “good”, innocent character.

At first it seems that the father of the Byrd family is trying to save the family, but soon he himself turns into a villain. Moreover, Marty drags his relatives with him. In each season, the people of the Ozarks are deprived of everything that is dear to them due to deals with a financier.

    /list/best-of-hbo/

15 Best HBO Shows: Detectives, Comedies, Sketch Shows

Sometimes it seems that Bird is the main villain of this whole story. Source: Netflix

But Bird is not alone. In the course of the story, in general, all the characters are perverted, become more cruel. So, at a certain moment, Wendy Bird, Marty’s wife, comes to the fore. She is so addicted to networking and illegal business that she walks over heads in pursuit of her own business ambitions. This leads to a direct confrontation between husband and wife. This is how the creators of Ozark develop complex relationships in the Byrd family.

The Ozark balances on the edge, makes you either empathize with the characters, or hate them with all your might – and in this the series also resembles Breaking Bad. By the end of the third season, even the killers who interfere with the Byrds seem more humane than the family from Chicago. Even the Byrd children begin to hate their own parents.

    /list/netflix-documentaries/

Food, Spies, Pandemic: 12 Netflix Documentary Series

The creators of the series said that Marty from the first season would have been horrified by the actions of Marty from the last series. And indeed it is.

How did the finale turn out

Minor spoilers for the entire series will follow. We reveal not very important details, but someone will probably want to know everything right now.

In the second half of the fourth season, the Birds are closer than ever to salvation: they almost succeed in making a deal with the FBI, whitewashing drug lord Navarro, and getting away with it. However, now they face problems one after another because of Navarro’s unpredictable and bloodthirsty nephew.

His appearance in the final episodes looks like a simple attempt by the filmmakers to quickly bring the story to the desired ending. Due to the actions of the younger Navarro, there are fewer and fewer heroes with each episode. The Ozarks hadn’t spared characters before, but they hadn’t been exterminated so quickly before.

    /list/indie-shows/

15 Shows You Haven’t Seen: Parodies, Dramedies and Reality Shows

The Navarro is the mafia family that caused all of Marty Byrd’s problems. Source: Netflix

The balance of power in the Ozarks is constantly changing, preventing the Birds from leaving the game. This development of events makes the finale of the series even more interesting: what if by the end there will be no one left at all, and the main characters will not be able to escape punishment for their actions?

But, unfortunately, the end of the story becomes the most boring part of the series. All the storylines get a denouement at once – the confrontation between the Byrds and the Langmores, and the persecution of Marty by representatives of the law, and the hero’s cooperation with the cartel. At the same time, the filmmakers do without surprises.

    /list/mini-tv-show/

Catastrophe, love and community: 10 great mini-series for one night

The fourth season began with an intriguing announcement, but the finale turned out to be terribly predictable. For the Ozark, which has so skillfully flirted with the audience for many years, this is more of a failure than a victory.

The Ozark series: actors and roles

In 2017, director Bill Dubuque presented the crime drama Ozark, which was shown on the Netflix channel. In 2018, the continuation of the series was released, then the picture was extended for season 3, the release date of which, presumably, is 2019year.

In the center of the story is financier Marty Bird, who lives in Chicago with his wife and two children. Bird’s calm measured life changes on the day when he agrees to launder money for a Mexican drug cartel. At one point, Marty’s entire scheme collapses, and he owes the boss of the cartel a huge amount. Dropping everything, Bird and his family move to a town near the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri (USA), hiding from the mafia.

Netflix has released the first season of Ozark, a Breaking Bad-like series about a financier who launders the money of criminal drug cartels in a remote lakeside province.

Chicago financial advisor Marty Byrd (Jason Bateman) has a very boring life – with a loving wife, Wendy (Laura Linney) and two adorable teenage children – and a very boring job – so much so that he indulges in watching porn while chatting with regular clients . Everything collapses in one day – the representative of the Mexican drug cartel Del (Esai Morales) learns that Marty’s partner, Bruce (Josh Randall), together with a couple of clients, organized a profitable side business: during the laundering of criminal money, they put some of them in their pockets.

Marty may not be specifically responsible for this, but Del doesn’t care – he kills Bruce, his wife, and others involved in or aware of the theft.

Marty manages to escape by promising Del to return what his partner stole and set up a new money laundering facility in outback Missouri. But that wasn’t the only bad news – a private detective tells Marty that his wife is cheating on him. The financier finds himself at a crossroads: to part with his wife means to kill her, albeit by the hands of ruthless drug dealers, but they will not be able to live together as before. And then Marty and Wendy enter into a kind of alliance that will allow them to somehow survive, buy a house in a town near the Lake of the Ozarks and still try to fulfill the promise given to Del.

The Netflix service presented ten episodes of the first season of the Ozark series –

a scary story about how a financier from a big city breaks into the most beautiful American wilderness and tries to quickly launder several million dollars in cash.

The Ozarks are a lake in the state of Missouri, deaf, reserved places (the Mark Twain National Park is nearby) and very beautiful places even in photographs. The locations in the series are also tastefully chosen – in the style of National Geographic, but in fact they were filmed in the state of Georgia located at a considerable distance. For purely earthly reasons – because of tax incentives for filming. But Ozark is not primarily about the wonders of nature.

    close

    100%

Ozark star Jason Bateman has a Golden Globe for Best Actor in Arrested Development, but he is most familiar to viewers from various feature films and television comedies. The current role of the actor can be misleading – his character in Ozark is the least prone to jokes, on the contrary, he gets into such a life conflict and faces so many deaths per unit of screen time that he especially has no time to smile.

However, there is humor in the Ozark too – if you suddenly like jokes about driving a car into the forest, at night, in the trunk and tied up.

But he does not determine the atmosphere of the series. The Ozark impresses with the routine of death and how humbly the characters accept it. The Mexican bandit Del is calm, balanced and clearly understands whom and for what he kills; his opponents’ nerves are not so strong, they beg for mercy, they are hard pressed by the death of someone they know. True, they usually have little time for worries – they need to run further, save their lives, get cash from the bank, somehow excuse themselves from sticky FBI agents. And in general – they need to move to a beautiful wilderness, which is also not as easy as it seems, especially for a specialist in laundering the ill-gotten gains of drug cartels.

    close

    100%

In principle, if it were not for the sword of Damocles of another appearance of a dissatisfied employer representative, Ozark could easily become a comedy with a standard plot about a convinced city dweller moving to the countryside.

At first, Bateman’s hero would feel head and shoulders above the hillbillies around him, sinking deeper and deeper into some kind of trouble from which new neighbors would rescue him.

But the humble financial adviser’s history of ties to crime syndicates leads to a curious conflict. The Ozark never becomes a pastoral story about the greater need for traditional values, but turns out to be something like Breaking Bad – that is, about how family values \u200b\u200bpush the ordinary person to the other side of the law. It is curious to look at this – almost the same as understanding that Jason Bateman for some reason buried his dramatic talent in the ground for many years. Although everything is more or less clear here – to star in Arrested Development and get your own Globe.

Why Ozark is the best crime series since the Breaking Bad project

If you haven’t watched it, it’s time to catch up.

On April 29, the Ozark series ended. The final seven episodes, the second half of the fourth season, have appeared on the Netflix streaming service – since recently, the platform has been dividing its most popular projects into parts in order to keep viewers longer.

For Netflix, Ozark is a really important series. And both in terms of ratings, and for the image. The initial half of the final season immediately started from the first place in the top views – viewers spent 77 million hours on this project in a week. It overtook even the mega-popular “Archive 81”, although, in fairness, it was already the second week since the release.

At the same time, if you look at the ratings of critics, they grew from year to year. The first and second seasons of Ozark have about 70% positive reviews on the aggregator Rotten Tomatoes Ozark / Rotten Tomatoes. The third and fourth have already more than 90%.

And this is no coincidence. The project really accelerated with each episode, throwing more and more unexpected twists. Against this background, the ending may seem a little timid. But still, the ending of Ozark does not disappoint and fully fits into the main ideas of the series.

Lifehacker did not write reviews of previous seasons. Therefore, by the release of the final episodes, we will tell you why the series is worth paying attention to.

Ozark has an incredibly dynamic plot without failures

The protagonist of the project is financial consultant Marty Bird (Jason Bateman). He is married with two children and seems to be the most law-abiding, boring and even cowardly person, he even tolerates the infidelities of his wife Wendy (Laura Linney). In fact, the hero, along with his partner, helps the Mexican cartel to launder money earned from the sale of drugs. But one day it turns out that Marty’s friend was stealing. He is killed, and the consultant himself, in order to save his life, convinces the boss that he has found a great way to launder money in a quiet town near the Lake of the Ozarks.

Marty and his wife and children are urgently moving to a new place and are looking for all possible ways to withdraw mafia cash through a local business. But here there are drug dealers, as well as petty bandits and just suspicious residents. And literally with every step, the position of the Byrd family only becomes more difficult.

The above is just the beginning of the series. If we talk about further events in general terms, it may seem that the Ozark is a very slow project. With the exception of rare offshoots, all four seasons of Marty and his family are trying to come up with a new money laundering scheme, facing new obstacles and just trying to somehow survive, because they are threatened by the cartel, and local bigwigs, and the FBI.

But in fact, many thrillers and almost action movies can envy the dynamics of “Ozark”. The main indicator is that hourly episodes do not seem to be drawn out. Literally in every episode, the authors manage to surprise the viewer. If not by the appearance of another criminal, then by a new financial scheme, for example, the construction of a casino or an attempt to connect a drug cartel with local farmers.

At the same time, only a couple of moves can be called drawn or far-fetched – among them, perhaps, the appearance of Wendy’s brother. The vast majority of events fit perfectly into the logic of what is happening, without violating the cause-and-effect relationships. Roughly speaking, if someone did something stupid, he will be punished. Disturbed the established order – problems begin.

Surprisingly, every season it becomes more and more interesting to watch the actions of the heroes. We can say that the action develops along a certain sinusoid: as soon as it seems that Marty has finally solved all the problems, dealt with the FBI agent and eliminated inadequate local bandits, the hero immediately falls from the top to the bottom, finding himself on the verge of survival.

The series has very ambiguous characters that develop over time

Ozark is often compared to another criminal project – Breaking Bad. In fact, since the end of the Walter White story, many series have claimed to be a replacement, but only the Netflix show has fully succeeded (except for Better Call Saul, of course).

There are indeed many common features. In both stories, an exemplary family man is drawn into criminal activity and gradually turns into a cruel bigwig.

But there are also differences in the development of characters. And in this case, you can even argue which of the series shows more interesting characters. The thing is that in the Breaking Bad show, White began selling drugs, being almost in a hopeless situation: he was dying of cancer and trying to urgently earn money. For Marty Bird, however, cooperation with the mafia is a voluntary choice, he just wanted to increase the comfort of his life. At the same time, the consultant at first stated that he himself did not sell anything and did not kill people, he only dealt with money. Whether these excuses are considered sufficient is up to the viewer. But in any case, the authors deliberately put far from the most positive character in the center of the plot: Bird does not hesitate to interfere in the quiet life of local residents, which leads to many personal tragedies.

Moreover, his wife can hardly be called a model of morality. It’s not even about cheating – they were rather the result of problems in family life. But Wendy often continues to do things even more cruel than her husband. Over time, she increasingly manifests herself as an aggressive careerist, and by the end she even turns into almost Marty’s opponent.

Still, it is impossible not to sympathize with these heroes. Each of them has both positive and negative qualities, each often does stupid things and even terrible things out of fear and fear for the family.

Although just from the third season it is more and more noticeable how the main characters change. At first, it seems that Marty and Wendy are simply forced to commit another crime, and they themselves are experiencing what happened for a long time. But gradually the heroes resign themselves, becoming more and more prudent and cruel. Before the fall of the hero of the Breaking Bad series, they are far away even in the final, but still the idea of moral degradation is obvious: at first, Marty is shocked by the actions of the mafia, then he actually gets used even to murders.

    Frame from the series “Ozark”

But The Ozarks isn’t just about two or three main characters. The secondary characters of the series turned out, perhaps even more naturalistic. In the first seasons, Buddy (Harris Yulin), a terminally ill old man, from whom the Byrd family buys a house, is incredibly vividly revealed. At first, he seems to be just a function – he says wise lines and pleases with comedic scenes. But gradually turns into the most touching hero and mentor of Jonah (Skylar Gertner) – the son of Marty and Wendy.

The Bird children are also growing up, not only literally, but like characters in the series. Of course, Jonah and Charlotte (Sophia Hublitz) are hostages to their parents’ actions. But already from the middle of the second season, each of them is given their own story: the first wants to help the family, the second wants to separate from it.

The list of well-written minor characters is long. But perhaps it’s better to stick with Ruth Langmore (Julia Garner). A girl from a family of criminals quickly becomes one of Marty’s main assistants, while simultaneously planning to outsmart her boss.

However, she quickly reveals herself as the most tragic character in the series. The heroine is literally torn between family ties, the desire to escape from terrible conditions and simple honesty. And, if you stretch your imagination just a little, “Ozark” can be considered exactly her story: Ruth’s drama is written almost deeper than the experiences of the main characters.

“Ozark” is perfectly structured from the first episodes to the finale

The series can not be called very pretentious in terms of presentation. Despite the fact that the project has an aesthetic picture, constantly flooded with a cold blue filter, a minimalistic soundtrack that builds tension, and many beautiful wide shots – some of them were filmed on a real Lake of the Ozarks, yet visually “Ozark” rarely surprises.

A shot from the series “Ozark”

On the other hand, the construction of literally every episode and season is worked out as clearly as possible. Many episodes start with a small flash forward, a scene that takes place towards the end. Then they show a screensaver, the characters in which hint at the plot. And it turns out that the beginning gives a hint to what is happening, but you can understand everything only by watching it to the end.

However, it is much more important that the seasons are not separated from each other, unlike, for example, the same “Dexter”. At the same time, while maintaining the overall plot, the creators each time set a slightly different direction of action: building a casino or joining a cartel. This helps to avoid self-repetitions.

And yet, many fans had concerns about the finale of the project. It is too difficult for the authors to strike a balance between love for the characters and a clear conclusion to all storylines. Alas, the ending of Ozark is not ideal: in comparison with the Breaking Bad show, it definitely loses. However, this is not a failure, as in the case of the same “Dexter” or the recent “Killing Eve”.

On the other hand, we can say that the end of Ozark turned out completely in the spirit of the series itself. It is as ambiguous as the whole life of Marty Bird and his family. You can be unhappy that not all the heroes got what they deserved.
