Helps a little

I think there should be more activities available without having to buy them. There’s only 2 available. My little one will get bored of it quickly. I’m trying to find an app to help him with his letters and numbers. Overall I think it helps with that, just wish there was more to choose from without buying!

Hello. Thank you for your feedback. We are very grateful for high star rating from you despite your remark. We offer to pay for our app to help children in their education. In full version are a lot of interesting tasks. The paid application is alternative to another educational stuff in baby store in real life.

It violates the #1 parent principle. Bad stuff.

This app violates a MAJOR RULE for apps geared toward toddlers. After purchasing the upgrade from the free version, you wind up with a home screen that has 10 games and 3 of them are still locked, requiring additional in-app purchases. So 30% of the available games are still off-limits to your 2 year-old, who doesn’t understand why she gets a pop-up window blocking her progress when she pushes that one, and can’t understand why she can’t have it, and cries, and eventually becomes so disgusted with the fact that she can’t open the one that she has become fixated on that she no longer wants to open any part of this app at all. This is super crappy, unprincipled, greed-driven app design. A word of advice to the makers of this app: parents purchase toddler apps so that everything within the game will just open up for our little ones, and we won’t have to explain or distract or apologize. It’s a TODDLER APP, duh. Advice to prospective customers: don’t bother. Any reputable toddler app will absolve you from the frustration of additional in-app purchases after it takes your initial $3.99.

Hello, oe-Xcit34cfted. Unfortunately, there is only one way to pay our employees – the paid version. In the full version are a lot of interesting tasks. We promote our other educational applications just as recommendation for the full development of the child. After installing any of them, it will not be displayed in this application. These icons are just our recommendations. So you’ve already had all paid content.

Not working with family sharing

I tried to use your contact form on your website but it won’t submit. So here’s my email to you:

I purchased this app on my phone for my son’s iPad. We use family sharing. I’ve tried uninstalling the app on his iPad and reinstalling it but it will not recognize that he has the paid version. Do I need to refund the purchase on my phone and then just purchase it on his iPad? I didn’t have my credit card handy so this is why I purchased it on my phone

Hello, thanks for your feedback. To solve your problem, please contact us directly from your app in the “Support” section, we are always ready to help you.

English alphabet: 21 games for kids.

Many people are interested in how to explain the alphabet to a child, how to make the English alphabet understandable for children who do not really know Russian yet. In fact, children can learn the English alphabet much faster than adults. The main thing is the right approach. The child must comprehend the alphabet in different forms: listen, write, see and, of course, play games that help memorize the alphabet. It is these games that we will talk about in this article. nine0003

When we learn the English alphabet, the main thing is not to get bored, so English alphabet games should be varied and fun for children.

English alphabet: games for children.

I offer you 21 games for children to memorize the English alphabet.

  1. Alphabet soup.

You will need a bowl or a makeshift saucepan, cards with letters or plastic letters, cards with words beginning with these letters. Try to choose cards with pictures of edible products, but add something funny – say, Frog for F, Snail for S, etc. Lay the picture cards on the table next to the bowl in which you dip the letters or cards. Each child must get one letter from the bowl without looking. Then he must see which of the words on the cards begins with that letter. This is his lunch. Children love this alphabet game very much. They especially like it when toads, spiders, snails, or, conversely, something like chips or pizza fall out. Yummy! nine0003

  1. Alphabetical envelopes.

You will need: 26 envelopes or homemade boxes with letters of the alphabet on them, 26 cards with uppercase (large) letters of the alphabet, 26 cards with lowercase (small) letters of the alphabet, 26 cards with pictures of words that begin with each of the letters. Children are invited to arrange the cards in envelopes. At the beginning, when the children are just starting to learn the alphabet, you can only use images of letters in the task, and only those that are familiar to the children. A little later, gradually introduce pictures. Thanks to this game, children will accurately learn to match large and small letters, and even learn 26 new words. nine0003

  1. Write the alphabet.

You will need alphabet cards. Divide the cards among the children. You can deal with one child, then give all the cards to him. Play the alphabet song and stop it anywhere. Children are invited to lay out the alphabet to the place where you stopped the recording.

  1. Alphabet book.

This is a wonderful game activity that will help children not only memorize the alphabet, but also learn more than a hundred new words with ease. You will need a folder with 13 files, 13 A4 sheets, and some old picture magazines that the kids can bring. On each sheet you write one letter of the alphabet on both sides. As you study, you and your students flip through magazines and look for words that begin with each letter. The children actively ask the name of this or that object. Agree on how many words you will search for each letter. We usually search for 5 words. When the word is found, the guys cut out the picture and we paste it on a piece of paper with a given letter. As you study the alphabet, you will have a real manual that the guys will know by heart, because they themselves created it. nine0003

  1. Alphabet chairs.

Arrange chairs in a circle according to the number of children. Lay out the letters of the alphabet on the chairs. While the music is playing, the children run around the chairs. When the music ends, each child should name the letters lying on the chair near which he stopped.

  1. Alphabet in a circle.

The guys sit in a circle. The teacher calls any letter of the alphabet and points to the child. The child must name the letter following yours, then the one sitting on the right calls the next letter and so on until the alphabet is called to the end. The one on whom the alphabet ended calls his letter and points to any student. The game continues again. nine0003

  1. Appearance.

This play activity is very simple. You hide the card with the letter under the book and gradually slide it out so that it is visible to the students. The first person to guess what the letter is gets a point. Wrong answer – minus points. Whoever gets the most points at the end of the game wins.

  1. Up and down.

You will need 2 sets of cards – uppercase and lowercase. Divide the lower case cards among the children. The children are sitting at their desks. Show the children the capital letter. The one who has the same lowercase letter stands up and calls it. Do everything at a good pace! Such alphabetical squats may well replace a physical education minute. nine0003

  1. Disappearing letters.

Write on the board a sequence of any 5 letters. Then invite the children to close their eyes and erase / replace one of the letters in sequence. The guys are invited to remember which letter was erased / replaced by another.

  1. Alphabetical track.

Print the letters of the alphabet and make a path out of them on the floor. Make some cards with numbers, for example, +1 or -3. Have the child roll the dice and go through as many letters as the dice has. Having settled on a certain letter, he must name it – otherwise he will have to return to his original position. Hitting a card with a number, say -2, if you have to take 2 steps back. The first one to complete the entire alphabet wins. nine0003

  1. Alphabet ball.

This is a simple alphabet learning game for kids. You will need a balloon. You say the letter A and throw the ball to one of the guys, he says B and throws it to the third – and so on until the entire English alphabet is named.

  1. Bingo.

Make cards with letters instead of numbers. The first person to cover the entire card wins. This link http://bogglesworldesl.com/bingo/alphabetmixed.php has a bingo card generator, with each update the letters change

  1. Alphabetic wave.

Line up the children and give them cards with the letters of the alphabet in order. Everyone can have several cards – the main thing is not to disturb the order. Something like this:

Turn on the song with the alphabet. The guys should raise the cards with the letters as they are mentioned in the song. Get an impromptu wave. You will have to practice several times until you achieve coherence. It is fashionable to use this gaming activity instead of a physical education minute. nine0003

Team games for learning the English alphabet.

  1. Say the word.

Children are divided into teams. One team names a letter, and members of the other team come up with as many words as possible for this letter in 30 seconds. The team gets a point for each word. Then the turn passes to the other team, and they name the letter. The game can have any number of rounds. Don’t forget to reward the winners.

  1. Whisper the alphabet.

The group is divided into teams of three or four. In each team, one person sits at a desk, one stands at the blackboard and one / two are runners. Distribute a piece of paper with a printed alphabet to the person sitting at the desk from each team, where the letters are not in order. Each team must have its own unique sequence of letters. The seated person must whisper a letter to the runner, he must run to the board and whisper this letter to the one who is standing at the board. Standing at the blackboard writes this letter. The procedure is repeated until the entire sequence of letters is written. If you have multiple sliders, they “pass” the letters one by one. The first team to write their sequence correctly on the board wins. Each attempt to communicate sitting at the desk and standing at the blackboard is punished. nine0003

  1. Board fight.

The guys are divided into teams and take turns sending one representative to the board. Letters of the alphabet are written on the board. At the same time, there is one representative from the team at the board. You name a letter, the one of the guys who first finds and circles this letter earns a point for the team. Invite the next representatives and name a new letter. You should not play this game to the end: when 2-3 letters remain, it becomes uninteresting. Enough 15 rounds. nine0003

  1. Write the sequence.

This game can be played individually or divided into teams. Each student/team receives several white papers. You dictate a sequence of 3-6 letters (depending on the age and abilities of the students). The guys should write down the sequence and hold the card up. The one who does it first gets a point. This game activity, although very simple, is incredibly useful, as it develops writing skills, classroom skills, memory, and reaction speed. nine0003

  1. Concentration.

You will need 2 sets of capital and small letter cards. The game can be played at any stage of learning the alphabet, even when only 5 letters have been learned. This is a team game. You attach the cards with the reverse side to the board with magnets or simply lay them out on the table. The teams turn over the cards one by one and try to remember them. If the same letter falls out – uppercase and lowercase – the team takes a pair for itself. The team that collects the most pairs of letters wins. nine0003

  1. First letter.

Divide between teams 26 cards with different objects for each letter of the alphabet. Teams must have the same number of cards. Name an arbitrary letter and count up to 5. During this time, the team that has a drawing with an object starting with this letter must find it and give it to you. The team with fewer cards left by the end of the game (when all the letters are listed) wins.

These 12 frisbee games share their rules and tell you how many players they need so you can have a great time.

Frisbee Bowling

Players needed: 1

Ages: 7 and up

This fun take on bowling can be set up in minutes in your backyard. You can use whatever containers you want for the pins. However, the best option is to collect all your empty plastic water bottles and line them up near your fence. Half-fill the bottles with water so they’ll present some challenge and won’t blow away.

Then, use the same rules as you would for traditional bowling. Use your frisbee to knock down as many pins as you can. You can also play with teams or go solo!

Disc Golf

Players needed: 1

Ages: 12 and up

As one of the more popular frisbee games you’ll find, disc golf is available in parks where you can either rent your frisbees or bring your own. You can even join leagues where people have disc golf tournaments, just like real golf.

The rules to disc golf are almost identical to real golf. The goal is to land your frisbee in a basket-shaped target in as few throws as possible. There are usually eighteen targets lined up throughout a specific area where you walk to the next throwing space after landing your frisbee in a target.

You keep score just like in real golf, with each new target having a specific par you need to aim for. If you come in under par, you will score better than over par.

Occasionally, you’ll find disc golf areas where the targets are posts stuck in the ground or similar, and the goal is to hit the post with your disc. You may find some courses use specific discs that are smaller than typical frisbees. However, all of them embody the same spirit of the game, so; you can enjoy yourself no matter the subtle differences.

Kan Jam

Players needed: 4

Ages: 12 and up

Kan Jam uses two plastic cylinders roughly the same size as garbage cans as targets. You can buy Kan Jams for thirty to forty dollars or make your own.

The object of Kan Jam is to get your frisbee into one of the cylinders, or cans, for points. You can get your frisbee into the can two ways: through a slit near the top of the can or have your partner smack it down into the top of the can as it flies past.

Making your mark into your can’s slit requires lots of skill, but it wins you the game outright. If your frisbee bounces off the side of your can, you gain one point. If your partner successfully whacks the frisbee into the can, you will receive three points. The first team of two to reach 21 points wins.

Cups

Players needed: 2 – 4

Ages: 12 and up

Cups is a great beach frisbee game because the sand makes it easy to set up. To get it started, you need four sticks and four cups. Plant two of the sticks into the ground roughly a foot apart, and then set up the other two sticks in the same way 35 feet from the original pair. Take your four cups and place them on top of the sticks upside down. Then, split into teams.

The object of the game is to knock the cup off of the opposing team’s stick. If you do, you win a point. However, if you hit their stick with your frisbee, knocking off the cup, and the other team manages to catch the cup before it hits the ground, you don’t get your point. If one team manages to knock down both cups of their rivals, they win the game.

Tips

Players needed: 6 – 10

Ages: 12 and up

For this game, there is nothing you need other than a frisbee and a little backyard space.

Divide your numbers into two teams and stand 25 feet apart. A thrower from each team will take turns passing the frisbee between the two groups. Every time the frisbee comes towards your group, someone must bump or “tip” the frisbee with a hand, foot, or head towards one of their teammates so they can catch it.

If your teammate catches the frisbee after you tip it towards them, your team gets a point. If two people manage to tip the frisbee before it’s caught, you get two points. If no one catches the frisbee, it is worth zero points. However, you can also add more points for tipping with an appendage other than your hand.

To make the game harder, only use one hand to catch the frisbee.

Hot Box

Players needed: 6 – 12

Ages: 12 and up

Frisbee games played on a field or in a gym can give you lots of room to run around and have a good time. Hot Box is one such game.

How it works is you must mark out a four-by-four foot box in the center of your playing area. This is the Hot Box, and if you catch a frisbee while standing in it, you score. The entire area around the Hot Box is free for play.

Divide your numbers into two teams. Each team can score in the Hot Box, but first, they must make six passes amongst their players. If you make the six passes, only then can one of your teammates stand in the Hot Box and be ready to catch it.

If your team scores, you will still have possession of the frisbee, but you will once again need to pass six times before trying to score a second time. You can intercept a pass to steal the frisbee for your own team.

Tic Tac Toss

Players needed: 2

Ages: 5 and up

If you don’t have a lot of space, Tic Tac Toss is one of the better frisbee yard games you can do. Simply set up a playing area so that there are nine open squares within a square shape, three squares by three, just like a typical Tic Tac Toe board. You can set up this area on the grass with string or jump ropes or on a blanket with rope or tape.

The game proceeds just like Tic Tac Toe, with each player or team throwing their frisbee into a square at a time. The object of the game is to get three in a row, either straight across, up and down, or diagonally, before the other team.

Generally, this game uses at least 12 frisbees to complete, but if you only have one or two frisbees, you can still pull it off. Simply use the frisbee for each turn, but mark the place where it landed so you can still see which squares are yours. You can use shoes, hats, or anything you can think of to mark your place. Just be sure you know which markers belong to which team.

Jackpot

Players needed: 4

Ages: 7 and up

Jackpot is one of the more beloved frisbee games for kids because it’s so fun.

One person acts as the tosser, and the rest are catchers. The tosser stands several meters away from the rest of the group and throws the frisbee in their direction, usually over their heads. As they throw, the tosser will call out how many points the frisbee is worth.

The person who catches the frisbee will get the points. If you hit the frisbee and it falls to the ground before you can catch it, you will receive negative points in the same amount that the frisbee was worth. The first person to reach 500 points becomes the new tosser.

Throwing Race

Players needed: 4 – 30

Ages: 5 and up

This game is ideal for larger groups of people, especially if they want to work on their tossing and catching skills.

To start, divide into two teams. Each team will divide into two sides, so they can pass their frisbee back and forth. How far apart you stand from your teammates is up to you.

The object of this game is to see how many successful catches you can make before the other team. The first team to reach 20 successful catches wins.

When you have more players, you can line up your extra teammates behind your thrower and your catcher. After your first thrower tosses the frisbee, they go to the back of the line. The next person in line becomes the new catcher. Once they catch (or fail to catch) the frisbee, they then become the next thrower, and so on.

Guts

Players needed: 8 – 10

Ages: 12 and up

Not to be cute, but Guts requires guts to play. The object of the game is for your team to make more catches than the opposing team. However, you must catch a frisbee that the opposing team throws, and the opposing team must throw the hardest, fastest frisbee they can.

This game can get very intense, especially with each thrower doing their utmost to deliver the toughest-to-catch frisbee imaginable.

When your team is catching, you must catch the frisbee with one hand to score a point. To do so, you can use appendages or body parts to slow down the frisbee’s speed until one of you can safely catch it. This technique is similar to the game Tips above, but it’s not a necessary part of the rules.

Every time your team catches the frisbee, you get a point. Before you play, both teams must agree on how many points will win the game. You can also play without points given if you simply want to experience the rush of taking a bullet-fast frisbee head-on.

Ultimate Frisbee

Players needed: 10 – 14

Ages: 7 and up

Just like Disc Golf, there are leagues for Ultimate Frisbee lovers to play within an organization. Ultimate Frisbee is similar to soccer or football, with a frisbee twist. You can play in a gym or on a field, just so long as you can clearly mark out end zones.

Divide your group into two even teams. Each team will have an end zone to defend. You must pass the frisbee between your teammates until you catch it in the opposing team’s endzone, which will score you a point.

Once you catch the frisbee, you cannot take another step until after you toss the frisbee. You can, however, pivot on your foot to throw to your teammates.

When you catch the frisbee inside the other team’s endzone, you must give it up to the other team and defend your endzone against their players. You can intercept passes, but you cannot take another step until you pass on the frisbee.

Pool Jump

Players needed: 2

Ages: 5 and up

If you’re looking for frisbee water games, this one doesn’t require much to set up and play. All you need is a pool and a frisbee. Someone needs to act as the thrower, while another person is the catcher. The thrower tosses the frisbee over the pool as the catcher leaps over the water to try and grab it before it falls in.

The object of this game is to have fun catching frisbees, so you can be as creative as you want while jumping, catching, or throwing. You can even leap into the pool off of a diving board if you have one available.

Conclusion

If you’re out and about with a frisbee, these 12 frisbee games can give you an idea of what to do with it. You can choose to follow these rules as strictly as possible or improvise to better suit your friends. Whatever you decide, you’re sure to have fun throwing the disc around!

Can it be turned into a drinking game? Yes

Kan Jam has to take the #1 spot in our Top 10 Frisbee games. This incredibly simple game is strangely addicting and amazingly fun to play. Kan Jam is just two plastic cylinders with a slit in them. There are multiple ways to score points. You can throw it above the cylinder to a teammate that has one attempt to slap the disc into the opening on top, for 3 points. Or, your teammate can hit the disc into the side for 1 point, or you can just throw the disc into the slit to win it all. First to 21 points wins. The best part about Kan Jam is that it’s for all skill levels. Are your friends terrible? No problem, simply move the cans closer to each other. Are you playing with Ultimate pro’s? Then spread the cans and put one on a hill. Kan Jam can be played pretty much anywhere. If you have never played before I 100% recommend that you try it. Click the picture for the Amazon link.

2: Flimsee (or “Cups”)

Players needed: 2-4
Cost: Free – $40
Can it be turned into a drinking game? Yes

This game started the old fashioned way by finding a few sticks and sacrificing a couple party cups. Now there is an official set called Flimsee.  Anyway, Flimsee is a blast to play. You start by sticking the 2 rods into the ground about 16 inches apart with the other two rods 35 feet away (or any distance based on skill level). Put the cups upside down on each rod and let the games begin. Each team will try to throw to knock the cup off for 2 points. The fun part is that if you hit the opposing teams rod, it flings the cup in any given direction. If the cup hits the ground you get 1 point, if the opposing players dive to catch the cup and succeed, nobody gets the point. This incredibly simple game can go on for hours. It is best if played somewhere where you can dive, like a beach or backyard. Either way, Flimsee is a great item to always keep in the trunk of your car. Click the picture for the Amazon link.

3: Hot Box

Players: 6-12
Cost: 1 Disc and cones help
Can it be turned into a drinking game? Probably

If you have ever been to an official Ultimate practice or a pickup game, you know that sometimes not everyone shows up. The worst is when 6 players are sitting there just praying for more to have enough for a game.. but nobody ever comes. Do we go home? Absolutely not. This is where hot box comes in. Start by setting up a 4’x4′ square in the middle of the field or gym. This box is the end zone for both teams. The playing field is the entire area around the box. Set a passing-limit before a team can score (this makes the game more similar to Ultimate). In other words say “both teams have to complete at least 6 successful passes before you can score, and you cannot immediately pass it back to the person that passed to you.” After 6 passes the little end zone becomes “unlocked,” remember you can pass an infinite amount of times around the end zone but cannot score until at least the 7th completed pass. Also, make a rule that nobody can stand in the end zone, otherwise the other team clogs the box so you can’t score. Stalling, pivoting, and all other Ultimate rules are still in effect. The pass count only resets if there is a turnover. If a team scores they still have possession, they just have to throw to someone outside of the box, and complete another 6 passes to score again. Hot Box is a fast-paced high-intensity game that is just as fun as real Ultimate.

4: Tips

Players needed: 6-10
Cost: 1 Disc
Can it be turned into a drinking game? Absolutely

Tips is a fantastic game to play when your blood alcohol content resembles an honor student’s GPA. The two teams of 3-5 will separate about 25 feet away from each other on level ground. Each team should designate an experienced thrower that can perfectly throw a chest-level, flat, and accurate pass to the opposing team. Otherwise the games ends up in a few arguments. Anyway, the game will start by the thrower giving a nice pass to the center of the other team. A player on the other team will “tip” the disc to another teammate. The biggest rule is that you have to catch with one hand! Mostly because it’s required to have a beer in the other. 1 tip and a catch equals 1 point. You can tip to a teammate who can tip it again to another to catch for a total 2 points (1+1). If no catch is made then the points don’t count. The team will then throw an easy pass to your team for your chance to score. Oh I forgot to mention, a hand-tip is 1 point, a foot-tip is 2 points, and a head-tip is 3 points. You can tip as many times as long as it results in a one-handed catch. Here is a video to give you a brief idea (It’s more challenging/fun to catch with one hand).

5: Disc Golf

Players needed: 1+
Cost: $99 for an official outdoor goal
Can it be turned into a drinking game? Without a doubt

Disc Golf is in fact one of the most popular Frisbee games to ever exist. Many 18-hole real golf courses have added Disc Golf goals to there playing area to attract a whole new breed of players. It is basically played like golf, except, instead of a hole, the target is an above ground basket designed to catch discs. The ball is replaced by different weighted discs in which a player will attempt to throw into the basket in as little tosses as possible. The discs are not your average frisbee, they are actually smaller, heavier, and need to be thrown much differently to get that same “float” we are used to with a regular frisbee. Visit your local golf course to see if they offer Disc Golf or you can play around with your own personal goal. I scoured the web and found a video for you that explains Disc Golf better than I ever could, it’s ironically at Discgolf.com.

6: Goaltimate

Players needed: 8
Cost: Around $30
Can it be turned into a drinking game? Not really

Goaltimate is basically Ultimate Frisbee with a goal. I have not found where one can purchase a goal but I found a Website explaining how to make your own for $30 bucks. This Frisbee game uses PVC piping to create a half-circle goal in the middle of the field. The strategy is to pass the disc through the goal to be caught by a teammate on the opposite side for a point. I have personally never played Goaltimate before so here is a Youtube Video showing exactly what the game is all about. There is also a Wikipedia page explaining all of the rules and field dimensions in-depth.

7: JackPot

Players needed: 4+
Cost: 1 Disc
Can it be turned into a drinking game? Oh yes

Jackpot is an incredibly simple game that all you need is a single disc. Designate a thrower that is able to throw the disc about half the field. Bunch everybody else into a group about 150 feet away from the thrower.  The thrower will throw the disc high and far towards the group. The group is a free-for-all where each player is responsible for their own points. The players will attempt to out-jump each other in hopes to catch the disc. Each catch is worth one point. However, if you touch the disc and don’t catch it you lose a point. Jackpot is actually an Ultimate Frisbee drill that teaches players how to read the disc and catch it over opposing players. Either way, Jackpot is a fun Frisbee game to play at practice or if you are at the park with a few buddies. In Ultimate, the act of throwing a lofty deep pass to a group of people is called a “Hospital pass,” and for good reason. Be careful when playing, as the game gets more intense players tend to bump into each other to attack the disc. I have eaten a few good elbows in my day but ITS SO FUN TO PLAY!!!!

8: Guts

Photo courtesy of PNutCards’s Youtube channel

Players needed: 8-10
Cost: 1 Disc
Can it be turned into a drinking game? Not recommended

Guts is one of the first Frisbee games to ever exist. It is an absolutely crazy sport that consists of a guy throwing a disc as hard as he can at you and your four teammates. Your team must catch the flying disc 1-handed by deflecting it off each other until it slows down enough to become catchable. If a catch is made it equals one point. Now it’s your turn to throw the disc at mach-5 at the opposing team for their chance to catch it. This sport is insane. I give these guys credit. Personally I have never been to a park and seeing people play this recreationally, but you can be the first. Please watch the video of Guts Frisbee to see what these players go through.

9: Frisbee Hoops

Players needed: 2-4
Cost: 1 Old/used Disc
Can it be turned into a drinking game? Most definitely

Hoops can only be played in a gym with basketball hoops. This is a Frisbee game I’d play pretty frequently during the winter season with a few buddies of mine. Your team of 1-2 stands under one hoop and the other team under the opposite hoop. One team will start by, without moving, throwing the disc at your hoop. If the disc hits backboard it is 1 point, net is 2 points, rim is 3 points, and getting it in the hoop is 5 points. You can defend your hoop if you can jump high enough to block the disc from hitting the net or the bottom of the backboard or even the rim.  First to 21 points wins. However, if you have 20 points and hit rim (which is 3 points) you lose 3 points because you have to get exactly 21 to win. If you get exactly 21, each player on the other team has one chance for redemption to make it to exactly 21. If they make it, the game resets and first to 7 points wins. Let’s say the disc hits backboard, bounces of the rim, and goes into the hoop. We do not add the points together so this would only equal 5 points. This is one of my favorite games to play with a Frisbee and can easily be played for hours.

10: Ultimate Frisbee

  8. Hobby Kraze Ultimate Frisbee Game Extra Language Guide

Before we start, you should know that in the game itself, frisbee is just a term that is usually associated with the fun action of throwing and catching. However, it is not actually called a Frisbee. In fact, the ultimate frisbee is legally required to be reduced to “ultimatum”. nine0003

In 1957, the American toy company Wham-O produced the first plastic flying disc. It was originally called “Pluto Platter” but changed to “Frisbee” the following year. This is actually a typo, but you will learn about it later in this article!

Due to its huge success, the name became a trademark of an American toy brand, and “throw a frisbee” was a play action that was only used to describe this toy before competitors introduced their own versions of the flying disc to the market. nine0003

However, the word frisbee has become widely used regardless of game, material, size or brand. Thus, while the frisbee is Wham-O’s trademark, it is used interchangeably in sports and recreational events around the world to describe a person who is skilled at playing flying discs.

This is the same brand confusion that happened with the Vacuum Cleaner, Hot Tub and another Wham-O toy: the Hula Hoop.

What is Ultimate Frisbee Game? nine0042

Talking about frisbees can sometimes bring up memories of a hot beach with your family throwing frisbees to each other, or even trips to the park with your puppy to get your heart pumping.

Ultimate Frisbee, however, is a completely new game. Or should we day: a game with flying discs?

Ultimate Frisbee is a sport played on the field by two teams of 7 people. It is a common sport that is growing in popularity in the UK and the US. The object of the game is to throw a frisbee to a team player and catch him in the opponent’s zone in order to score a point. nine0003

Compared to most other two-team sports, it is quite simple and uses a wide range of skills, including speed, agility and fine hand-eye coordination. For example: football; what is the offside rule?

When did the Flying Disc rules appear?

This wouldn’t really be a beginner’s guide to perfecting the frisbee if we didn’t dive right into one or two of the iconic history books here at The Hobby Kraze. So it all started in 1871…

A man named William Frisbie (note the spelling) opened a pie shop called the Frisbie Pie Company. After its great success, students from nearby Connecticut universities went out to get the pie and take it home.

After the pies were destroyed, the students started throwing empty tin boxes whole at each other, shouting “Frisbee” as they were about to release it.

However, it wasn’t until nearly 80 years later that partners Frederick Morrison and Warren Francioni developed a plastic flying disc that was more aerodynamic than pie pans. They were more durable, traveled faster, and continued to fly long distances in the air. nine0003

Later, in 1955, this idea was sold by Morrison to the popular American toy chain Wham-O. The model sold was a slightly more improved version and was named the “Pluto Dish” to capitalize on the public’s then UFO craze.

Wham-O officially released the flying disc in 1957, but changed the name to Frisbee in 1958 to commemorate its origins. However, they spelled it wrong and the name just stuck.

By 1967, a toy company designer named Ed Headrick decided to patent the latest version of the Frisbee, which now had rings on the surface for better flight control. So, the toy was patented in design and registered as a trademark. nine0003

Continuing US history, a student at Columbia University High School in Maplewood, New Jersey proposed making a team sport from the past. This student named Joel Silver suggested to the school board in 1968 that American football be combined with frisbees and a more relaxed attitude.

In the same year the first game was played, which, of course, included Wham-O Frisbee. Since then, the game has gained popularity in the US and has become a global sport.

What tools and equipment are needed in the Ultimate Frisbee Beginner’s Guide?

When it comes to the ultimate Frisbee shopping list, it really isn’t that much. As we have already mentioned, this is a very accessible sport that can be played by anyone with very little equipment, unless you are on a team. Otherwise, you may have to wear team gear. nine0003

When it comes down to it, despite the rise in popularity in recent years, it is still a very new sport with few players. As of 2020, there are about 80 million players in 7 countries.

He didn’t even make it to the Olympics. In fact, rock climbing (a long-standing and established sport) only qualified for the Olympics in 2019.

As such, the Beginner’s Guide to Frisbee Improvement does not contain the layers of specialist equipment or standardized tools required for the sport. However, there are some key items that are best kept in your bag for the best flying disc learning experience. nine0003

Plus, since it’s so easy and affordable, it’s time to get started before the popularity grows and more equipment becomes a must.

See what should be in your basket (at the moment):

  • Flying disc
  • brackets
  • Friction gloves
  • Heating layers
  • School for training
  • Compression socks
  • Home form of teams
  • team 9 away kit0003

Fortunately, there are no more difficulties in the game. In fact, there are only ten rules, and most of them in the ultimate game of frisbee are borrowed from other sports such as netball, basketball, and football.

For example: this sport has a swing leg like netball. And it uses the American football scoring system, according to which points are awarded after the sports object (in this case, the Frisbee) enters the end zone.

But let’s move on to the ten rules of flying discs in the best game of frisbee:

    • Playing field

The playing field is usually on grass, but can be done on sand or the hard floor of an indoor arena. The field must be 40 yards wide and 70 yards long. End zones are then adjusted on the field, 40 yards wide and 20 yards long.

    • Scoring

Points are scored when the offensive scissors catch the frisbee in the defensive end zone. When a point is awarded, the players return to the start of the game and the teams reverse the direction of the game. nine0003

    • Start of play

Each team starts in a line of 7 at the end of their end zone. The teams face each other and the defense starts with a frisbee. The defensive team then selects the marks to play and tugs the frisbee to start. During the game, there are two “roles”: the handler and the carver. The handler throws the frisbee and the cutter catches. These roles change throughout the gameplay.

    • Playing Frisbee

The Frisbee moves up and down the field as players throw at each other. However, when the Frisbee is in possession, the player must engage his pivot foot. This means that whoever has the flying disc must place their non-dominant foot firmly on the ground. That foot is not allowed to leave the position until the frisbee has left their hand. In order to move and find a powerful throwing stance, the player is allowed to pivot around their pivot foot using their dominant foot. nine0003

    • Turnover rule

There are several reasons for losing during the game. For example: a dropped disc, a foul, a protected pass, a fall or out of bounds. When a pass is called (sometimes called a “turn”), the player with the discus must pass it to the opposing team, who bring the disc to the brick mark and pull on the new spot.

    • Player substitutions

After a point has been scored or a player has been injured, the team may make substitutions. Any player sitting on the touchline can gain an advantage in the match. As long as only 7 players remain on each team at all times and the substitution is completed at one of the two allowed times, any player substitution may occur. nine0003

    • No contact rule

In the ultimate game of frisbee, players cannot make contact as it is a non-contact sport much like netball. That is, no players can touch each other. If contact occurs, it may result in a foul.

    • Foul play

Foul play is called when there is contact between two players. To report an incident, the player announces a “foul”. The player who committed the foul must either accept or contest the foul. Agreeing allows the fouling team to keep possession of the frisbee, but contesting means the game must be replayed. nine0003

    • Player responsibility

Each player is responsible for calling the game. This means they need to call a pull, call a loss, call a foul and more. They are also given the right to contest their own fouls as long as the game remains contactless.

    • Spirit of the game

All players must respect each other and the game. This means that players must not be harmed, they must be kind and play fair.

What are the ways to throw a Frisbee?
    nine0042

Throwing a flying disc is not as easy as holding it with your dominant hand, pointing it in the right direction, letting it go and hoping for the best.

There are different rolls used in different circumstances to achieve the desired result. And each of them will be the preferred method for its player. This means that you should experiment to see what you are best at, what needs to be worked on, and what provides the most direct and powerful throw. nine0003

In fact, there are many different ways to throw a frisbee or a flying disc that are related to other sports such as baseball, tennis and basketball. However, here, since this is a beginner’s guide to the ultimate frisbee, we thought we’d cover three of the most common starting throws to get you into the game.

Frisbee Throwing Techniques You Should Learn When Learning to Play Flying Discs:

    Backhand

This is the most common and easiest throw of all. If you have this throw in your arsenal, you will know how to play the flying disc in the best frisbee game. nine0003

First you need to hold the frisbee with your dominant hand. Your four fingers will be under the rim of the frisbee, your thumb will be on top, and the frisbee will be flat side up towards the sky.

Place the leg corresponding to the dominant side in front and bend at the knee. Use your back foot for support and propulsion.

To press and release: bring the Frisbee to the waistband of the non-dominant side, turn slightly towards the Frisbee, focus on the target or clipper (which will be in your possession for 2 hours) and throw the Frisbee towards them. nine0003

Your curved body provides the momentum needed to give speed and stability to the disc’s flight.

Top tip: don’t throw it into the air or onto the ground in the hope that the wind will take over; throw directly at clipper or target.

    Forehand (Flick)

The second throw after the backhand is a similar throw, but the frisbee is not carried over to the non-dominant side of the body.

This method of throwing the Frisbee is the most efficient as it requires the least amount of energy, yet can be completed in the least amount of time. nine0003

To perform a forehand or flip, you need to hold the frisbee in your dominant hand so that the three middle fingers are under the edge of the disc, the thumb is on top, and the little finger just hangs outward for fun.

Facing the target, place your dominant foot slightly behind you and bend your knee. This will serve as a support when you throw the disc.

Then, as if you were jumping over pebbles on the surface of the water, bring the Frisbee to your leading shoulder. The release process involves moving the wrist back and down before pushing it forward and releasing the disc towards the target. nine0003

    Hammer throw

The last of the three most important throwing techniques in your Frisbee career is the hammer throw. And when mastered, it looks pretty cool. You will use this to gain some height and get the Frisbee over the heads of the defense in front of you.

You need a target at 11 o’clock to throw the hammer. Place your dominant foot behind you and use it for balance and propulsion when throwing.

When holding the Frisbee, you will need to grasp the rim as if it were a handle. With your thumb on top of the disc. nine0003

However, unlike a backhand or snap, the disc must be held vertically, not horizontally.

Carry the Frisbee over your dominant shoulder, letting the weight of the Frisbee hang on your arm. Then launch the frisbee forward, swinging your wrist to create the necessary spin.

Other throws you will receive from the team as you progress in frisbee play:

    • High release (discus throw or backhand from above)
    • Low release (discus throw or backhand near the ground)
    • Chicken Wing (Start with an upside-down disc to flip over at the last moment)
    • Elevator Pass (Throw the disc high, not distance)
    • Push Pass (Push the disc while throwing to create reverse spin)
    • Roller Throw (throw the discus at a 70 degree angle, not flat)
    • Scoober (throw the roller upside down from the hammer stand)
    • Thumb (flick the thumb up with the disc upside down)
    • Wheeler (Throw like a baseball with the disc upside down and thumb finger creating rotation)

What is better to play: Cup or men’s defense?

During the game, you should be aware of the two main team defense tactics. This is because it can affect how you practice your final frisbee drills and learn how to play the flying disc or throw the frisbee.

The first, human protection, is the most common form of protection and is used in many other sports such as football, netball, basketball and American football. In these games, each player has a mark, and throughout the game they block that mark. This works well as it matches players according to their ability and can make it easier to play. nine0003

Second, use a formation called a cup. This formation consists of one handler of the opposing team holding the Frisbee and preparing to pass. One member of your team will label the handler. The other three players form a crescent side by side, while the other three players form a large crescent in the background to cover the field.

Using personal defense is the best way to start playing as a new player because you will improve your personal defense skills against other players that match your abilities. Then, after you have practiced with your team, you can start using technical formations such as the cup. nine0003

The cup is a great way to cover the area on the field and confuse the handler where there will be a good and open catch. It also allows you to start a ho stack (we’ll cover this in the glossary, so be sure to keep reading!).

However, since this is a beginner’s guide to perfecting the frisbee, The Hobby Kraze team will always suggest starting with human defense tactics.

Hobby Kraze Ultimate Frisbee Game Extra Language Guide

We couldn’t leave you in the dark before your first game without knowing some of the terms that will be encountered on the playing field.

It’s all good to understand what is the best game of frisbee and how to play the flying disc. But turning into a meerkat with a frisbee after someone yells something you’ve never heard before can take a toll on your overall score.

So we’re here to fill in the blanks.

    • Airbender

This term does not refer to popular anime and movie series, but refers to the same skills. Airbender is one of the best names anyone can give you when you are playing frisbee. This means that you are a great handler who knows how to manipulate the flying disc into certain flight paths.

    • Bidding

Bidding is a key element in the game of frisbee. This refers to how you will jump, fall, dive, slide, slide, swim (not really), or do any other strenuous activity to catch the Frisbee other than raising your hand and squeezing it on arrival. Betting is an important part of the game to get a photo, so brush up on your catching skills. nine0003

    • Blade

Blade is the name given to how the flying disc will move after someone has put in too much effort to throw a frisbee. The disk will not fly straight, it will warp, and it will change course to fall very hard and fast. It can be difficult to catch the blade (or even want to, as it can hurt you).

    • Brick Mark

After the disc just pulled out of bounds or lands out of bounds, the opposing team will have to pick it up and carry it to the brick mark to continue play. The brick mark is located 20 yards from the end zone and on the vertical center line. nine0003

    • Bullet Pass

Bullet Pass is so named because of the strategic power and spin imparted by the Frisbee as it moves through the air. And this speed and travel is like a bullet. These types of throws are usually performed close to the ground, as there is little air or wind to change its course.

    • Callahan

A rare feat in final frisbee drills where a player catches a flying disc in the opponent’s end zone, resulting in a point instead of the opponents point. nine0003

    • contest

Pronounced with a “u” instead of “o”, the match is called when the foul occurs. After a foul has occurred between two players, the player must call “foul”. Then the player who violated the rules must be allowed to act in accordance with the spirit of the game. However, if they deny the foul, then they contested it and this will result in the recent gameplay being replayed.

    • Cherry Picker

Cherry Picker is the name given to a person who will strive to stay behind the end zone line. This act is generally frowned upon as it has nothing to do with actual gameplay. A player can either be in their own end zone to catch a long throw or in an opponent’s end zone to block a point. nine0003

    • Defensive

When defending, there are two ways to block: you can either “catch your D” (catch your defense) or “slap.” If you spank, you simply hit the discus in the air and let it fall so that the opponent cannot catch it. If you catch your D, then you don’t beat the defense, you catch it. This will always be the best defensive technique.

    • Strength home

Force is another game tactic that you can use to effectively force the type of throw the Frisbee player is using and direction. For example, if you are standing to the right of a player (who is dominated by the right side), he cannot throw a frisbee from the right or flick, he must throw a backhand. In the same light, when forcing a player’s shot, you can force the shot towards your team’s home rather than to the side. nine0003

    • Ho Stack

Ho stack (short for “horizontal stack”) is one of the most common offensive game tactics used in perfect frisbee drills. Two or three handlers take the Frisbee and pass it back and forth along the chain. The remaining cutters on the team then oscillate up and down the playing field to evade their target. When the cutter is free, the handler can throw him a flying disc.

    • Hook

Hook (spelled huck in the US) is simply the name given to a long-range throw. This throw may cover the entire length of the playing field and will be directed to the end zone for a point. Often the hook is what the cherry picker will be waiting for throughout the game.

    • Command

Delay is the amount of air time a flying disk receives before it is caught or dropped to the ground. In terms of attraction, lagging behind is intentional and purposeful. This is because it allows players to move from call lines to strategic positions in the game. nine0003

    • Mismatch

Before pulling out the disc, the players give their scores. Often the tags will be players on the other team with the same height, weight, stamina, gender and skills. However, sometimes players can be left with a mismatch. Keep an eye out for these inconsistencies in the game, as they can solve or break the game.

    • Pancake

This is the most popular way to catch a Frisbee, especially among beginners. You will use both hands to catch the flying disc by clapping your hands with one hand above and one below. This prevents falls and is a great way to practice before using the latch with one hand. nine0003

    • Pull

For the Frisbee to come into play, someone has to “pull” it. This means that a good thrower on the attacking team will throw the frisbee onto the field to start a new spot.

    • Reading

This refers to the “reading game” action. Simply put, it tries to predict the movements of the frisbee throughout the game. In the air, flight and landing are influenced by many factors, such as wind. Using these factors, the player can decide where and how to catch the flying disc in a great game of frisbee. nine0003

    • Run

Run involves running across the field into an open area to catch closer to the end zone and further away from your target. This is usually what a player says to someone if they are throwing badly but catching well. Often this is for newcomers to the game.

    • stall

During the game, you have ten seconds to pass the Frisbee to the next player (hence the Ho-Stack technique). When an opponent is within ten feet of you and is trying to force or block you, the other player can start the countdown by saying “stall 1, stall 2, stall 3” and so on. When the number of tables reaches ten, it is considered a loss and the frisbee goes to the opposite team. nine0003

    • tacos

This is the name of a process that can happen to your frisbee. Because it’s only plastic, it can warp. Especially on hot days, after rough play, after overexertion or when throwing a hard blade. Once the flying disc is deformed, it will not fly straight and cannot be used.

    • Universe point

Universe point is the point that wins the game. He is often called until the end of the game to mean that after another point is taken, the winners must be declared and everyone can go home. However, it is mainly used in ultimate frisbee drills or pickup games to call them short. nine0003

    Conclusion

With this you have received a beginner’s guide to the final frisbee. As a final note, we wanted to let you know that there are teams across the country that you can contact and join. While you might want to practice at home with friends, family, or a discus target, always put yourself in your place to be part of a team and exponentially increase your skill level.

Many universities are part of BUCS (British Universities and College Sports) and have teams that go national with women’s, men’s and mixed teams. To find out more visit the UK Ultimate website and find the right team for you. nine0003

12 classic hand games for kids

Remember when the best games you could play with two hands required only … two hands? Get the grandkids to put away the handheld video games by playing these mano-a-mano classics.

The Dismembered-Finger Trick

Tuck the thumb of your right hand underneath your first two fingers so that the knuckle is hidden but the thumbnail is visible. Straighten all the fingers of your left hand except the index finger. Fold it down at the middle knuckle as if the top half is gone.

Now press your hidden right thumb knuckle against your folded left index finger knuckle with the two fingers of your right hand hiding the connection.

Slowly pull your thumb away, making it look like you are dismembering your finger. Wriggle the thumb end for effect!

Dance the Hand Jive

Take a trip back in time with this dance craze from the 1950s, made popular again in the late 1970s by the hit movie Grease. Kids love to learn it.

Here’s how it goes:

  1. Pat your thighs twice.
  2. Clap twice.
  3. Wave your hands, one over the other, in front of your chest. Then do it with the other hand on top.
  4. Bump your fists twice, one on top of the other. Then do it with the other fist on top.
  5. Point your right thumb over your right shoulder twice, then your left thumb over your left shoulder twice.

Play this song and put it all together to the beat! Pat-pat-clap-clap-hand-hand-bump-bump-thumb-thumb!

Miss Mary Mack

This classic clapping game likely dates as far back as the Civil War, although its exact origins remain a mystery. It’s a more complex version of Pat-a-Cake, with knee slaps, pinky hooks, and more. Show your grandchild how you used to play!

Miss Mary Mack Mack Mack All dressed in black, black, black With silver buttons, buttons, buttons All down her back, back, back.

She asked her mother, mother, mother For 50 cents, cents, cents To see the elephants, elephants, elephants Jump the fence, fence, fence.

They jumped so high, high, high They reached the sky, sky, sky And they didn’t come back, back, back ‘Til the 4th of July, ly, ly!

Odd or Even

This is a great hand game to help two grandchildren settle a dispute — who gets to go first, who gets to sit in the front seat, etc. It’s a simple game of chance.

Each player holds one hand behind their back, and secretly chooses to put out one finger or two. One player calls odd or even and says, “One, two, three, shoot.”

Players simultaneously put out their hands with one or two fingers extended. Add the fingers together to see who wins. For example, if both kids throw one finger, then the sum is two and even wins.

Rock, Paper, Scissors

Need a game to play on the fly? This is it. It’s easy, quick, and addictive for kids of all ages. On the count of three, each player “throws” his fist into the middle.

To make Rock, make a fist; for Paper, hold your hand out flat; and for Scissors, extend your middle and index fingers.

If players make the same gesture, the game goes on. If not, the winner is decided by a harmonic and intransitive method — Rock crushes Scissors; Scissors cuts Paper; Paper covers Rock.

Use the game to settle disputes about who goes first, or play a best-of-ten (or 20) match just for the fun of it.

Slaps

Despite its name, you don’t have to leave each other red-handed to enjoy this game of manual quickness. Start by placing your hands out in front of you, palms up.

Have your grandchild place their hands, palms down, on top of yours. Your hands should not rest against each other, but should just barely touch as they hover in midair.

Your objective is to quickly bring your hands around your opponent’s and tap the backs of their hands. Your opponent tries to anticipate this maneuver, pulling their hands away to avoid the tap.

If you can tap the other side of your opponent’s hands three times before you miss, you win. If they successfully avoid your tap, then you switch positions and they try to tap your hands.

Thumb Wrestle

This timeless kids’ game is a fun diversion in any dull moment. Clasp hands so your fingers curl together and your thumbs face each other, pointing up.

Together, announce: “One, two, three, four, I declare a thumb war.” Then, using only your thumb, attempt to pin the other person’s thumb to their hand before they can pin yours.

To win, one player must pin his or her opponent’s thumb long enough to say “One, two, three, four, I won the thumb war,” without losing grip on it.

Which Hand Is It In?

Young kids delight in this disappearing-object game. All you need is something small enough to ball up in your fist so that no one else can see that it’s in there: a penny, a marble, a rolled-up piece of paper, etc.

Put your hands behind your back, concealing the object in one. Then show your grandkid both fists. They will love guessing which hand hides the object, especially if they get to keep the prize once it’s found.

Pat-a-Cake

Remember this two-person clapping game?

Pat-a-cake, pat-a-cake, baker’s man Bake me a cake as fast as you can Pat it and prick it and mark it with a B Put it in the oven for baby and me

The basic clapping pattern alternates between clapping your hands and clapping against your partner’s. From there you and your grandchild can throw in your own creative sequences to spice up the game.

Steeple People

This classic hand game for young children is easy to play and has a fun rhyme to say. Here’s a refresher course if it’s been a while.

Fold your hands together with fingers interlaced downward and hidden between your hands: “Here is the church.”

Raise your index fingers and point them together toward the sky: “Here is the steeple.”

Open your thumbs: “Open the doors.”

Keep your fingers interlocked and turn over your hands so your fingers are facing up. Wriggle them as you say: “And see all the people!”

Create a Special Handshake

One thing that hasn’t changed about kids: they love being a part of an exclusive club. Create your own by making up a handshake only you and your grandchild know.

Here are two kinds you can try, a secret handshake and a fancy handshake:

  1. A secret handshake incorporates a discreet signal, like a quick squeeze or a thumb pressing on a knuckle, that only club members can know (or see).
  2. A fancy handshake, on the other hand, you can show off to everyone.Slap the back of your hands, snap, high five, whatever feels fun.

Don’t pick so many elements that you can’t remember the sequence, and practice it a lot. The more effortless your elaborate handshake seems, the better.

Shadow Puppets

Show off your favorite shadow creatures to your grandchild. All you need is a bright light and a blank wall. Do your best bird or butterfly impression, and see what fun new shadow puppets you can create together.

Let kids put their own twist on playtime with these fun hand games to play with nothing but hands — and grown-ups can easily join in, too!

You have shelves full of books and a playroom full of toys, but still kids want something to do-oo-oo. We know just the trick! These easy games to play with hands (yes, just hands!) will keep kids busy anywhere — the car, long lines, a doctor’s office. And you know what’s even better? They’re all free!

These fun hand games let kids play, but they also let them put their own twist on their play. Here are eight fun games for kids to play with nothing but their own hands, and grown-ups can easily join in.

1. Numbers (or Chopsticks)

This finger game involves simple math and can be played by two or more players ages 5 and up. Each player begins with one finger held out on each hand. Player 1 taps one of Player 2’s hands with her finger, causing Player 2 to hold out a second finger on that hand. Player 2 can then tap one of Player 1’s hands with her two fingers, and Player 1 will have to hold out two more fingers on her hand, so that she now has three. When one player has 5 (or more) on one hand, that hand is “out.” For a fun twist, players can also “divide” an even number of fingers across both hands, so that if a player has four fingers on one hand and none on the other, she can split them into two and two. The last player to have a hand still in play wins.

2. Thumb wrestling

The object of this game is to pin your opponent’s thumb down for three seconds. Curl your fingers and lock hands together, thumbs up. Chant together “1-2-3-4, I declare a thumb war,” then let your thumbs do the wrestling. Check out a TED talk by gaming expert Jane McGonigal on how to take this game to the next level by making it a larger-group activity.

3.

Concentration

Concentration is a hand-clapping game that challenges kids’ ability to keep rhythm and think on their feet. Two or more players sit in a circle and start the rhythm by slapping their knees, clapping their hands or snapping their fingers in a pattern. The player who is the leader chooses a category, such as names or animals, and on his turn, each player has to call out something that fits this category in time with the rhythm or he is “out.” The last remaining player wins. Check out this example of a mom and her daughter playing together.

4. Finger spelling

In this game, Player 1 closes her eyes while Player 2 traces a letter of the alphabet on Player 1’s palm. Player 1 has to guess what the letter was. If she’s right, she is the winner, but if she guesses incorrectly, Player 2 wins. Older kids can increase the challenge by spelling out short words.

5. Di-Bi-Di-Bi-Dip (Cham Cham Cham)

This two-player game from Korea is a simple way to decide a winner, similar to Rock-Paper-Scissors. The leader holds out a fist, chanting “di-bi-di-bi-dip” (or “cham cham cham”). Then both players flip their hands either horizontally or vertically. If they match, the opponent wins. If they don’t, the leader wins.

6. Hand-clapping games

From Miss Mary Mack to Miss Lucy’s steamboat and beyond, hand-clapping games play a valuable role in child development. Researchers at Ben Gurion University’s Music Science Lab found these games help with handwriting, spelling and motor coordination. There are many different versions and variations of these hand-clapping games, so help your kids discover their favorites!

7. Ninja

Ninja is played with two or more people standing in a circle, swiping at each others’ hands to eliminate them. Moving clockwise in turns, players strike a pose in one swift, Ninja-like movement and slap the hand of the person next to them to get them out. To see how it’s played, read this simple explanation or watch one of the largest Ninja games ever from Phillip DeFranco.

8. Hand Slap (or Hot Hands, Flinch or Red Hands)

This game is not for faint-hearted adults. In this game, two players stand face to face. One places his palms up, the other hovers his hands over Player 1’s palms. Player 1 tries to flip his hand over and slap the back of Player 2’s hands. If the second player flinches or if Player 1 makes contact, Player 2 loses and they switch hands.

Introduce your little ones to easy games for kids from the days before electronic devices ruled the planet. They may discover that unplugging and tuning in to each other is the best way to connect and have a good time.

Always at hand: 19 finger games

In the queue to the doctor or at the checkout in the store, on the plane or on the bus, it happens that it is inconvenient to get toys, and you need to play with the child, yes, not to disturb others very much. For this, my son and I gradually accumulated suitable hand games. Because they don’t need anything but hands.

tickler fun

Tire – machine …
An adult says: “Tire – car – driver – cab – beep!” or “Wall – wall – ceiling – two steps – ding! – a call! – and alternately touches the child’s cheeks, forehead, chin (or lips), and at the end presses on the nose. nine0003

A mouse ran through a hole…
An adult “runs” with his fingers along his arm, slowly saying: “A mouse ran into a mink, dragged a cheese crust away,” and then suddenly tickles the child behind the ear: “I ate it behind the ear!”.

Horned goat…
“A horned goat runs after little guys who don’t eat porridge, don’t drink milk – gore, gore!” – a goat of two fingers tickles the tummy.

finger games

There is a lock on the door…
The child folds his hands into a “lock” and says the text, accompanying it with the appropriate movements: “A lock hangs on the door (hands in the lock). Who could open it? (pull fingers without opening) Pull (pull), twist (rotate), knock (knock the base of the palms without opening fingers) and opened!

We chop and chop cabbage…
“We chop and chop cabbage (open palms move sharply up and down), we cut and cut cabbage (back and forth), we salt and salt cabbage (finger pinch “pour salt”), we press cabbage (squeeze palms) ! Am! So tasty! (child feeds mother with cabbage). nine0003

Great Grandmother’s Ladushki
“Ladushki,” my great-grandmother sang them like this: “Ladushki, patty, where were you? – By Grandma! – What did you eat? – Kashka! – What did you drink? – Brazhku! They also ate pies, broke all the pots, and my grandmother caught up, pulled her hair! A non-pedagogical version, but everyone already knows the classic one, and here, at the end, an adult tickles the child behind the ears.

Interaction Games

Fish, fish, perch…
One player places his hand on the open hand of the other. He strokes her with his free hand and says: “Ryyybka, ryyybka …”. Then he suddenly exclaims, “Perch!” and slaps the hand of the first, whose task is to withdraw his hand before the blow. Sometimes the son asked to “just play with a fish, without a perch” – stroking his hands is very pleasant. Another option: “Kiiiska, kiiiska … Throw yourself under the bench!”. nine0003

A swan flew across the blue sky…
The players hold their palms in front of them so that each has one hand covering the back of the other’s hand. They take turns touching each other’s palms with the words: “A swan flew across the blue sky, read a newspaper under the number …” Each time you call a different number. What number, the same number of times you then need to touch each other with your palms and count out loud. The one who pronounces the last number tries to sharply slap the palm of the second player. For older children, this is an excellent exercise in counting and analysis, and the baby will simply clap his hands together with an adult with pleasure. If he still does not know how to count, you can limit the newspaper numbers to 1-2-3 and prompt in the right place. nine0003

Catch your finger…
An adult clenches his hand into a fist and puts out one or the other finger, which the child must catch. As a child, I managed to play it about a million times – with my dad, on the bus on the way to kindergarten.

The bird is pecking at the seed…
One player exposes an open palm: “The bird is pecking at a seed,” and the other taps on it with a finger. Suddenly, the first one quickly says: “But it doesn’t give back!” – and squeezes his palm, trying to catch a finger. nine0003

And here’s a whole bunch of finger games from the editors of “Fun”

We shared an orange

There are many of us – and he is one
This slice is for the hedgehog
(with the right hand we alternately open the fingers on the left hand)
This slice is for siskin

(One of the hands – “mother duck” – stands on the table, leaning on the elbow. The fingers are folded in a pinch. The second hand is ducklings. We perform wave-like movements towards the “duck”.

The number of extended fingers corresponds to the number of ducklings)

But only four ducklings
We went back to mommy.
(toes gradually curl up)

Four ducklings swim…
Three ducklings are swimming…
Two ducklings are swimming…
Here is one swimming forward,
On the shore his mother is waiting,
(To the words “On the shore their mother is waiting” we “nod” with the hand (“mother-duck”).

And five ducklings at once
We went back to mommy.

Kittens
(Put your palms together, press your fingers together. Elbows rest on the table).
Our kitty has ten kittens,
(We shake our hands without separating them).
Now all kittens stand in pairs:
Two fat, two smart,
Two long, two tricky,
Two smallest most
And the most beautiful.
(Tap the corresponding fingers against each other (from the thumb to the little finger).

Do you play similar games? Which ones do you and your kids like?

Hand and finger games (children 3-6 years old)

Parents and educators want to see children affectionate, responsive and responsible. We can develop “socially desirable” behavior through the outdoor games collected in this chapter. nine0003

At the age of three to six, children’s social and moral competence develops. Preschool children strive for independence, while weakening the close emotional connection with their parents. Along with this, they learn to maintain contact with peers and adults based on respect, acceptance and a fair approach. In other words, the guys must learn to establish friendly relations, relations of cooperation.

This is an important learning process in which children receive conflicting messages: in many situations, their competitive behavior and striving for superiority are rewarded, while at the same time adults emphasize again and again the importance of being understanding, welcoming, ready to help. Children grow up in a society where there is a constant struggle between altruistic and selfish values and motives. The reason for the difficulties in teaching children “socially desirable” behavior is also the shadow side of the personality known to each of us, manifesting itself in anger and rage, envy and jealousy, revenge and retribution, and readiness to defend one’s interests in aggressive ways. nine0003

Responsible social behavior cannot be taught by prescriptions and sanctions. If we want to achieve a result, we must use other means. First of all, they include the behavior of adults, which serves as an example for children. If children feel that we are ready to take their worries and fears seriously, that our demands are reasonable, that we are able to help them when they are in a difficult situation, they receive a truthful model according to which they can build their behavior. Such means include the creation of play situations in which children can learn (in free or structured play) to show empathy, responsiveness, care and cooperation in relationships with other children. nine0003

Young children learn best from what they can do themselves. Because of this, they integrate parts of their personality, their body and their feelings more quickly. Therefore, here are games that provide good contact between children when they touch each other and can do something for each other with their hands. At the same time, the games are designed in such a way that children get the pleasure we all know when we are close to someone, when we are appreciated, when we can trust.

1. Rolling the ball

Description:
When children gather in a circle, they develop a sense of community and belonging to a group. If, moreover, they pronounce poetry together, then this feeling is intensified. Simple symbolic activities such as rolling, passing, and receiving the ball help children connect with each other.

Materials: one not too small ball that rolls well.

Age of participants: from 3 years old.

Instructions for children:
Stand in a circle and hold each other’s hands. Let’s learn a poem about our group:

We stand hand in hand,
Together we are a big ribbon.
Can we be big (raised hands up),
We can be small (hands down),
But no one will be (nod to neighbors and shake hands).
Now sit on the floor, also in a circle, but tighter. We will play a ball game. It will be like this: I roll the ball to the one who is sitting opposite me. This child holds the ball firmly with both hands and waits to see what happens next. And we all together say the name of the one who has the ball, and continue: “Mark is in our group!” After that, the child rolls the ball to someone else. And so on, until everyone holds the ball and hears their name. nine0009 (Children can get the ball several times, but it is important not to miss anyone. Read the poems every time you gather a group in a circle.)

2. Magnet

group in a very elegant way. The child briefly becomes the center of attention of other children.

Materials: lively music to which children dance, holding hands.

Age of participants: from 3 years old.

Instruction for children:
I want to do some magic for you. Come over here and see what I have here. (Show the children how a small magnet attracts and holds a carnation or a paper clip.) Who can tell me what is the name of this object that helps me to be such a good magician (sorceress)?
Sometimes people are magnets. When you go home in the evening, do you quickly run to your father or mother? And who will tell me when a child attracts me? ..
I want to offer you a game in which each of you will be a magnet.

Stand in a circle and hold hands. When the music starts, you can move or jump, but don’t let go of your hands. When the music stops, I will loudly call one of you by name, for example, Maria. Then you quickly let go of your hands and run to Mary, stand in a tight circle around her and gently touch her with your hand, because at that moment she is a magnet. If someone does not want to be touched by so many children at once, he says: “Better tell me something.” Then all the children jump around and say in chorus: “Hi, Maria, you are with us, you are with us!” nine0009 When the music starts again, you again make a big circle, join hands and dance around until I call another name.

3. Gift balloon

Description:
This is a very simple and poetic game. On a symbolic level, it allows children to feel how important it is to receive something as a gift and give it yourself.

Materials: cheerful but not fast music, such as Minuet by Luigi Boccherini; balloon.

Age of participants: from 3 years old.

Instructions for children:
Sit on the floor in a tighter circle. Today I have a beautiful and bright balloon with me. Imagine that the balloon is a wonderful gift that you give to your best friend. If you give a ball to someone who is next to you, he thanks you for giving him something very beautiful. Think about how you want to give the gift. Maybe you look friendly, smile, give the gift slowly or quickly, say something at the same time? Listen to the music that will play for you. nine0009 And the child who receives the gift will decide for himself how he will accept it: with a smile, with a satisfied face, he will say “thank you” …
Or maybe some children will want to pass the gift with their eyes closed.

4. Hot Potato

Description:
This game allows you to feel and understand that sometimes in life failure is inevitable and that you need to be able to cope with it. At the same time, she shows how easy it is to help someone who is in trouble.

Materials: one potato.

Age of participants: from 3 years old.

Instructions for children:
Sit on the floor in a circle. I have a potato cooked for our game. But she is special. Now you have to imagine that this potato is very hot. So we have to pass it on to each other very, very quickly. If it lingers in someone’s hands, then we will all imagine that he burned his fingers. And then what? We also have stopwatches in the game. It’s one of you who sits around the circle with his back to us and from time to time shouts “Stop!” when he wants to. If we heard “Stop!”, the potato cannot be transferred, it remains in someone’s hands, and he is “burned”. nine0061 (The interval for the stop watch must be between 30 and 60 seconds.)

Ay-yy-yy! For him, this is a real problem. But, fortunately, we can console him. Those who are sitting next to him will put their arms around his shoulders and gently shake him from side to side a couple of times until the child with the potato says: “Next. ” And again, quickly, quickly, we pass the potatoes from hand to hand, until the stop watch again screams “Stop!”. (Make sure that the role of the stop watch is played by several children, replacing each other.)

5. Birthday cake

Description:
This game is especially timely when one of the children has a birthday. Then the whole group participates in the “cooking” of the cake, and it becomes truly unique.

Age of participants: from 3 years old.

Instruction for children:
I want to offer you a game called “Birthday Cake”. All children will be able to participate in it and bake an unusual cake.
Sit on the floor in a circle. Imagine that our circle is a bowl where all the products for the cake are mixed. Well, think about what you need for the test. To make the cake tasty, we need a couple of eggs. Which one of you wants to be? Be the eggs that are broken into the bowl and lie down in the middle on the floor. What else do we need for the cake?..
(Let the children be different foods. Ask who wants to be, for example, flour, milk, sugar, raisins.)

Those who join the “dough” must ensure that all foods are well mixed.
One or two children will be the candles on the cake. (“Light them up” joyfully and say in unison a short verse chosen by you, suitable for such a unique birthday cake.)

6. Still pool

Description:
The game emphasizes the feeling of belonging to a group, makes it possible to use the sensitivity of children’s hands and feel the subtle nuances of touch. This game is best suited for small groups of five to nine children. If the group is large, divide it into subgroups. Let the first subgroup play on the first day, and the rest on the other.

Materials: flowing instrumental music and blindfold.

Age of participants: from 4 years old.

Instructions for children:
Stand together in a circle and hold hands. Let the most inquisitive of you stand in the middle and receive a blindfold from me. The rest of the children hold hands and walk in a circle to the music.
After waiting a little, the one in the center shouts: “Still pool!” Our circle stops and the child with the bandage slowly walks forward until it touches someone. Very carefully, he feels the head of this child with his hands and tries to determine who it is. nine0009 (If the child has trouble guessing who is in front of him, you can give him a hint. When the child guesses, he stands in a circle and the other one comes to the middle and puts on a blindfold.)

When touching the head of another child, please act very careful. If you move your fingers very slowly and gently, then your hands will become magical: with their help you will be able to see!
(Be very careful and supervise the children when necessary. Make sure that the children only touch the head, not the clothes, and that others behave calmly at this moment.
For older children, you can make the task more difficult by asking the child with the bandage to tell in advance who he wants to find.)

7. Tenderness

Description:
This wonderful game calms and relaxes children. It is good if the child discovers as early as possible that his hands are needed not only for solving practical life problems or for manipulating toys: with the help of his hands he can communicate with peers and express sympathy, understanding and sympathy. When children touch each other, they learn to be both independent and close to each other. nine0003

Materials: smooth music, such as Handel’s Aria.

Age of participants: from 4 years old.

Instructions for children:
Divide into pairs. One of you sits comfortably on the floor, imitating scissors with your feet or simply stretching them out in front of you, and closes your eyes. The other quietly kneels behind the partner and slowly takes his head with both hands. I will turn on calm music, it will help you to be very gentle.
The one who is on his knees should very slowly move his partner’s head back and forth. Imagine that your partner’s head hurts or is tired and you want to give him something good, namely your care. Or you can imagine that your partner’s head is a little animal that got lost and is now happy to be in two gentle hands (2 minutes).
Now slowly remove your hands from your partner’s head and grab his arm. Gently lift it higher, move it from side to side. The one who sits expects his hand to be taken care of as tenderly as before the head. Feel how pleasant and soothing it is (1 minute).
Slowly lower your hand, put it back where it was, but please don’t drop it.
Raise your other hand and gently move it from side to side (1 minute). nine0062
Now bring that hand down as well and gently place both hands on your partner’s shoulders. As you do this, imagine how warmth and sympathy flow from your arms to your partner’s shoulders and show him how nice it is to have a friend (30 seconds; then role reversal.

TOP of the best games for children on PC: a review of children’s computer games Now you can play at least for a whole day – all kinds of Eyes Protection Safety Eco Mega Super-Puper technologies have made sure that children’s eyes do not strain. But how do games affect the gray cells of a fragile child’s brain? This question is still open.

We have compiled for you a list of thirty-five interesting and useful games for development. These are the best computer games for kids that will help kids develop various skills or just have a good time.

Roblox

Genre: construction game, sandbox

Released: 2006

A constantly evolving project in which anyone can create not just their own level, but an entire game. Talented developers make copies of famous arcades, action movies, adventures, or invent their own universes in which you can learn how to build, communicate with other people, or just have fun. The game perfectly develops creative skills.

Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy

Genre: Platformer

Released: 2018

Nothing teaches reactions better than a platform game, especially a classic one. This is a game in which you have to jump on different types of platforms. Like Crash Bandicoot, for example. A few years ago, games that were released back in the 90s were significantly updated for modern computers. The graphics are clearer and better, the sound is more pleasant, and the gameplay is bringing maximum pleasure. The child will not learn to solve logarithmic equations, but he will understand that it is still worth dodging stones rolling in the face.

Untitled Goose Game

Genre: Stealth Puzzle

Released: 2018

A game about a bully goose that prevents the villagers from doing their own thing. The malevolent bird either steals the mail, or scares him with his “ha-ha-ha”, then makes a commotion in a cafe or breaks the fence of a good-natured man and steals his smoking pipe. Almost all children like to play dirty tricks, but let them do it in the virtual world and under the guise of a goose. Untitled Goose Game has nice graphics and addictive gameplay – you need to be smart and not catch people’s eyes.

Moving Out

Genre: Puzzle

Released: 2020

Moving Simulator Fun is the next game on our list of the best games for kids on PC. It’s better to play with friends. Moreover, only a game on one computer is available, that is, a local multiplayer mode. In Moving Out, local laws of physics are observed. Players must stow the sofa, refrigerator and other furniture in the truck so that everything fits and does not scatter in different directions when moving. At the same time, the characters must carefully take everything out of the house, preferably without breaking it. The game teaches that nothing lasts forever and sometimes you have to move. Well, it develops logic, of course.

Minecraft

Genre: sandbox

Release year: 2011

View product

An exciting simulator with which you can learn a lot about life. The game develops creative skills (there is a lot to build in Minecraft!) and allows you to learn about the elementary laws of nature and physics (for example, glass is made from sand, wood is mined from felled trees).

If a child gets carried away with Minecraft, then this is not a reason to take him to the doctor. On the contrary, with the proper development of skills, he will be able to take part in the construction of something truly large-scale. For example, a group of enthusiasts has been recreating the planet Earth with large cities in an incredibly detailed form for several years now.

Stardew Valley

Genre: Multi-Genre Adventure

Released: 2016

A game with nice graphics in which you can do almost anything your heart desires. For example, this is a great way to get your child hooked on working in the country. The plot is built around a hero who inherits a house in a village with land. You can grow different flowers, tubers and whatever you want on it. The harvest is sold or given as a gift to the villagers. Here you can also go fishing, go hiking in the dungeons and even start a romantic relationship.

Spyro Reignited Trilogy

Genre: Platformer

Released: 2019

Fascinating 3D platform game about a cute little dragon. Reignited Trilogy is a collection of updated games, the first of which was released back in 1998. Beautiful graphics, pleasant music, bright visual effects. All this creates an atmosphere of an interesting adventure, during which the player will have to show logical thinking.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

Genre: Adventure

Rating of the best educational computer games for children

In today’s world, young parents no longer adhere to the position that the computer and computer games are real evil. Now more and more and earlier, kids are allowed to play various educational games or watch useful and exciting videos. But what exactly to choose from such a wide variety is a much more serious question.

It used to be that only with cartoons and the right books you can instill good taste in your child, improve his communication skills, vocabulary and other useful qualities. But now it can also be done even with the help of computer games. And all that is needed for this is to choose them correctly. And this most important task falls on the shoulders of parents.

Are computer games useful? So you can’t just turn on a tablet or PC, put a child in front of it and go about your business for hours. And in case of failure, always scold the World Wide Web. No, things are a little different. It is important to choose the right games that will help develop, and you should not forget about parental controls so that the child does not accidentally see something forbidden.

Special studies were carried out, according to which the following conclusions were made:

  • a child who plays computer games becomes more attentive and concentrated in life, which helps later during studies to listen and remember more information;
  • various puzzles, quests and other tasks develop logic and ability to multitask;
  • fine motor skills return to normal thanks to the work with the keyboard and manipulator;
  • with each new level, the child learns to analyze its complexity, and then this will help to correctly assess their opportunities in life, which, in turn, will also help in self-development;
  • to relieve some nervous tension, you can pick up games with elements of restrained aggression, but parents should pay more attention to them, and first choose them yourself;
  • in a computer game there are no restrictions for fantasies and even for actions, this helps in the development of horizons and knowledge of the world around.

Of course, there are also negative sides to computer games, since everything cannot be as light and beautiful. During prolonged sitting in front of a PC, the eyes are heavily stressed. And sometimes the child does not want to do anything else. In the game, he is forgotten and disconnected from reality, which in turn minimizes contact with people.

But, all these disadvantages can be easily smoothed out by parents if they monitor their child, and not just turn on the tablet for him, every time just so that he “does not get in the way.” In addition, there are many different computer entertainments where parents can play with their child.

Games for children are divided into categories depending on the topic, focus.

Alphabets for Toddlers – Zoolingo

Is your toddler starting to explore the alphabet? Or perhaps you want to introduce alphabet letters as early as possible to get them reading early? If you wish to teach your toddler the alphabet, the best way to do that is through fun plays and activities. You see, play is our brain’s favorite way of learning.

Children naturally hit learning milestones as they grow. Learning the alphabet is just one of the most critical educational milestones a child must achieve—it’s what prepares them for writing, reading, and speaking fluently.

But the question has to be asked: at what age should a child know the alphabet?

Toddlers as young as 2 years old can learn the alphabet. When they do, they are likely to start reading at age 3. However, you can’t just force them to sit at a desk and listen to your ABC lecture. And you can’t expect them to write the alphabet in the proper order until they memorize all 26 letters.

Instead, you can introduce ABC games, interactive toys, and alphabet for toddlers activities that will allow curiosity. That way, not only will they enjoy but learn as well.

What other ways do you think can help a child master the alphabet? Enrolling your little one in a top-tier school will help in learning ABCs. On top of that, such a facility can help children love learning. Aside from that, there are other ways to help your child learn and ace the alphabet outside of school. Try Zoolingo—an educational mobile app with over 100 fun games and activities, including alphabets for toddlers.

Zoolingo, the Best Alphabet for Toddlers App

Zoolingo is an innovative and educational mobile app designed for kids aged 2 and beyond. It’s packed with features that kids, parents, and educators love. Further, it’s loaded with over a hundred games, including alphabet games that help teach kids ABCs and master them. Our alphabet games come with cheery phonic songs aimed so kids can familiarize themselves with the phonic sounds and the letters that represent them.

We understand that every child is unique and may be learning at a different rate and pace. Some children learn the alphabet easily, and others may not be learning at the pace they should. One reason may be that they are not interested or simply undergoing a minor setback.

That’s why we designed Zoolingo to be highly engaging. We built our app to be interactive, catching your child’s attention so that they can maximize their learning. Use our Zoolingo mobile app to keep your child focused on learning while enjoying our games, puzzles, mazes, and coloring pages.

We applied several techniques proven to help children memorize, recite, and write the alphabet.

Recognition

By the age of three, little ones should be able to recite the alphabet. Yet, every child is different. Some tots may learn the alphabet at age two, and others might not be able to pick them up until the late threes. Generally, children learn the alphabet through repetition. Zoolingo repeats the phonics songs to help kids pick them up quicker, just as they would any song.

Typically, toddlers can recognize letters between ages 3 and 4. More often than not, they recognize the letters in their name first. For example, a kid named Kevin can remember what the letter K looks like, as well as recognize the other letters in his name.

Writing

To help them build penmanship and better recognize letters, we added a tracing game where they can learn how to write letters in upper and lower cases. By the time they reach age three, they should be able to write the alphabet even before they attend kindergarten or preschool.

Sounds

By the age of four to five, children can associate letters with their sounds, also known as phonics. Toddlers, on the other hand, can start familiarizing themselves with phonics even when they cannot speak actual words yet. Zoolingo is filled with fun, vividly animated phonics and nursery songs for letter and word recognition.

Zoolingo Alphabet Games

When you download Zoolingo, you will enjoy over a hundred games, mazes, and learning activities. One of our prominent games is the Zoolingo Alphabet Island, featuring everything alphabet-related—tracing, recognition, and letter sequence.

Tracing Game

Our tracing game is fun, highly addictive, and very educational. Millions of kids have learned their ABCs with the help of our letter tracing games.

How the game works

Choose a language you want your child to learn. Our alphabet games are available in 13 languages. As you know, other languages have a different set of alphabet. By default, the game is set to English. The tracing game starts by playing a phonic song of the letter that needs to be traced.

The letters have arrows to guide children on how they can write the letter. The red mark will appear as they trace the letter. After every successful trace, balloons, confetti, and stars will appear on the screen to congratulate your kid for the achievement.

How it benefits toddlers

Tracing letters serves a lot of benefits for toddlers. Primarily, letter tracing can help kids better identify and recognize letters. Hand-eye coordination helps retain the alphabet knowledge, ensuring your little one remembers the form of the letter and its sound.

Secondly, as toddlers trace the letters, they gain better control of their hands, which can help them build penmanship. Tracing letters is a fun activity that can significantly help children learn the alphabet outside of school. They can do it during their playtime, breaks, or car rides.

Aside from improving fine motor skills, kids can also enhance their visual-spatial skills, which will help them later with reading and mathematics. Tracing also helps them notice the details, a mindful skill that they can use in making arts.

What parents say about the game

Mypiggy12@ said:

This is an excellent app! I enjoy playing this app – it is educational and very addictive. There are baby games to learn shapes, letters, etc. The graphic is amazing and is one of the best kids’ games out there. I highly recommend this app for those who play games for toddlers.

Recognition Game

Our letter recognition game is fun, appealing, and simple. It can help kids recognize and identify letters. It also serves as a foundation for achieving academic success and literacy.

How the game works

The game goes by asking the toddler to tap or select the letter being said. There will be plenty of letters displayed on the board, each is expertly designed to be attractive to young learners. The Speaker Icon at the top allows children to repeat the letter sound.

Kids must select the correct letter. Tap the wrong letter, and the game will respond with Uh-oh! Choose the correct letter, and enjoy the colorful stars, balloons, and confetti.

How it benefits toddlers

Letter recognition games have many benefits—and they’re all about making kids become academic achievers! Our recognition game helps little ones point out letters. As they hear the sound, they can say it out loud, which supports oral language development.

As they tap their devices and select the correct letter, they will also improve their fine motor skills and eye-hand coordination. They will also enhance their sense of touch and spatial awareness.

Letter recognition is critical. Without it, kids may struggle learning letter sounds and recognizing words. Kids who fail to recognize letters and sound them out may have trouble learning how to read.

What parents say about the game

samoretz said:

Excellent learning game! I enjoy this game a lot, not only for kids but for those who want to play for fun. This is a great app for kids to learn ABC letters and numbers, which is very educational. There are free kids puzzles, which gives them the opportunity to recognize the animals and objects. The mini baby games are entertaining and help those to learn and improve their memories. I highly recommend this game for kids to learn!

Sequence Game

Our letter sequencing game will put your child’s ABC knowledge to the test. By engaging in this curiosity-inducing game, your child can master the alphabet easily and quickly. This game offers loads of entertainment and learning!

How the game works

In this game, we ask the players to complete the sequence by tapping the correct letter. They can hear the sound of each letter, allowing them to reassess their knowledge and analyze the correct letter that will complete the sequence. While this game may be difficult for toddlers, it helps them stimulate their thinking.

We’ve made sure to keep the fun elements in the game, so they stay focused on sequencing the letters. Our vivid animation, upbeat in-game sounds, and bright graphics are sure to capture young learners’ attention.

How it benefits toddlers

Sequencing is the process of putting ideas, events, objects, and—in this matter—letters in a logical order. Sequencing may be a challenge for most kids, but it’s an effective way to measure their memory capacity with a letter sequencing game.

On top of that, the ability to sequence alphabets to the correct order is a solid predictor of their success in learning to read. It’s not just about their ability to remember the forms of letters but also their ability to treat words as sequences of letters.

Letter sequencing can also help kids differentiate letters that look similar to each other, such as b and d, i and j, and p and g.

Good game to keep child’s attention! Interesting interactive games for toddlers. Works well for moms who need to keep their children’s attention, especially since it contains multiple baby games that can be chosen and switched immediately. Seems to be a good match for my son, age 3. It even includes multiple language options which are good if you want to teach your child Spanish early on. [It] oncludes ten different nursery rhyme based games. Will recommend it to my friends who need to find games for toddlers, as there is a lot of variety and in this app, and my son, who has ADD loved it.

Zoolingo is all about educating little ones. Our goal has always been to make learning fun and addictive. Zoolingo is packed with engaging games that teach kids the alphabet, numbers, colors, shapes, and so much more.

We also added phonics to support your child’s alphabet knowledge. Phonics is a proven effective way to help kids learn the form and sound of each alphabet letter. Throughout our alphabet games, your kid will repeatedly hear the phonics of each letter. They may not realize it but they gradually instill the knowledge in their memory.

Not just that, we also added a bunch of your favorite nursery songs in the app. Toddlers may not be able to speak immediately, but through music, they can be familiar with common words and sounds. Listen to the classic Old McDonald, Itsy Bitsy Spider, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, and so much more

Zoolingo Supports Active Learning

Active learning is the only type of learning that truly matters. And thanks to technology, our learning process has exponentially improved than it was 20 years ago. Most of us (who are adults now) were passive learners. But educators have come a long way, and the way we teach kids has changed.

Now, learning has become interactive and immersive. We are now using videos, graphics, and programs as teaching aids. In fact, teachers now heavily rely on educational apps to teach their students. Zoolingo, for example, is an app explicitly designed to allow children to interact with the subject matter. These interactions include finger-tracing, drag-and-drop, singing, and dancing.

In a nutshell, Zoolingo reinforces active learning. We found that this process boosts children’s retention of knowledge and, at the same time, improves their critical thinking skills.

The 3 best online games for learning the alphabet for children

A lot depends on how pleasant and comfortable your child’s acquaintance with letters will be, including the strength of the desire to pick up books in the future, read, reach for knowledge, do discoveries. Not all adults have the time, talent and patience to acquaint a child with letters, teach him to read, but today this has ceased to be a problem – you can call on the best games for learning the alphabet to help.

We’ve reviewed dozens of letter learning apps and selected the top three. To make our review really useful for you, we included primary school teachers, children from 3 to 6 years old, as well as their parents in the research group. Here’s what we got:

When choosing, we recommend focusing on the tastes and preferences of your child – let the baby play each of the applications presented, and he will choose the game that he finds most interesting for himself.

Editor’s Choice

  • Readings – This is a whole world in which the child plunges headlong: 40 fabulous locations, 35 mini-games, original music and watercolor illustrations.
  • Speaking alphabet – Interactive alphabet, plasticine animation, two learning modes – sounds and letters.
  • Learning letters is fun for kids! – Another interesting application that offers several game scenarios for memorizing letters. The kid will have to color “smart” pictures, look for objects with a certain letter, listen to rhymes.

1. “Readings” – application,
which will teach your child to read

Here is what the well-known user resource Lifehacker writes about Reading:

  • “Readings is a sequential learning game. It is simple and clear drawn, as well as easy to manage. The game has a story that captivates the child even more. Sound accompaniment also helps: letters, warehouses and words are pronounced, they are easy to perceive by ear.

And here are the words of the General Director of N. Zaitsev Methods LLC Andreev E.V.

  • “Readings is an application that will serve as a good addition to learning with Zaitsev’s Cubes. We recommend it to those who want to teach a child to read without coercion and stress.”

We will complete:

Reading is not just an exciting game for learning the alphabet, it is a whole fairy-tale world that opens up to a child. You don’t have to offer the kid to play Reading every time – the child himself will ask to turn on the fairy tale. The interface is so simple and clear that the participation of parents is practically not required – except at first. Watercolor graphics, dozens of different locations and tasks: every day something new and interesting awaits the child – a real fairy tale that not only tells about miracles, but also teaches the child a unique magical skill, because those who can read are able to manage time, and travel to different worlds.

Readings are:

  • Watercolor graphics, beautiful music, elaborate fairy tale scenario. You definitely won’t be bored;
  • Total immersion effect. This effect is supported not only by the children’s voice acting of the main characters – no falsehood, pretense, but the main thing here is that the child is actively involved in the fairy tale. The further development of the plot depends on him – and this is a certain responsibility that contributes to greater composure, and hence the effectiveness of training;
  • Zaitsev method. To date, this technique is recognized by many experts as the best among all existing ones – learning to read comes smoothly, easily, efficiently. Reading is built on this particular technique, the game moves from simple to complex, which allows the child to believe in himself and practice;
  • The variety of tasks is another undoubted advantage of Reading. It will not be boring. In addition, the tasks are arranged in such a way that children with any peculiarities of perception memorize letters well and put them into words. For example, all letters are voiced, so phonemic hearing develops in the process.

Would you like to learn more about Reading? We invite you to watch a short video:

Beware, you can quickly fall in love with this game – you won’t have time to look back, but the child is already reading. Parents are also encouraged to periodically look at the Reading blog – news about the application appears here regularly, as well as useful tips and tricks on raising and educating children.

2. “Talking alphabet” – an interactive alphabet, made with love and care.

The main advantages of the game:

  • Beautiful graphics and music, cute animals;
  • Simple interface. Even a three-year-old child will quickly figure out what’s what;
  • All letters are voiced. The child is constantly offered to enter into a dialogue.

Of the minuses, one can only single out a small number of games (there are only six of them) and the lack of a plot that runs like a red thread from beginning to end. In fact, it’s just an interactive alphabet – yes, interesting, fun. But the child will not have an unbridled desire to return to it again and again – each game is independent, and after its completion there are no unfinished business.

Would you like to get to know the ABC better? See:

Rounding out our review is the learning game Learning letters is fun for kids. A simple application that preschool children will quickly figure out: cute animation, funny melodies, the ability to learn letters and sounds – it’s all captivating and interesting.

By choosing Learn Letters Fun for Kids, you get a game that:

  • Surely will interest your child: graphics and music attract and hold attention;
  • Offers various tasks for memorizing letters. For example, three objects and three letters appear on the screen, with which the names of objects begin – you need to correlate the letter and the object;
  • Does not require the intervention and presence of parents – the interface is as simple and clear as possible.

But, as in the case of the Talking ABC, there is no single plot that would lead the child from the first stage to the last. Why is this story so important? Because it forms in the child a steady desire to return to the game again and again – he still has unfinished business there.

Important questions about learning to read

When?

No specialist can give you an unequivocal answer to this question – all children develop differently, so you should focus not on age, but on the child’s readiness for learning. But there are still certain norms, and they are dictated by common sense: if your child goes to first grade already knowing the letters, or better, knowing how to read, it will be easier for him to adapt to school. We will talk about how to determine the best moment to start learning letters, learning to read, below.

Where?

Many parents send their kids to special circles where children are taught to read, count, draw and so on from an early age. Zaitsev’s cubes, the Montessori method, mental arithmetic, and so on are used. We will not say that this is the wrong approach – the benefits of such circles are undeniable (if competent teachers teach there). But the problem is that such classes are held once or twice a week for an hour. This is not enough. If you want your child to develop faster, you need to deal with him more often, not necessarily by the hour. It is worth focusing on the mood of the child, on his desires. And there are many scenarios of situational games – look for certain letters on car numbers or signs while walking, remember the names of objects with a specific letter, or, conversely, name the first letters of the objects that surround you.

How?

If you have the opportunity to take your child to special early development clubs, great. If you have the opportunity to regularly engage with the child on your own – great. But if you do not have such opportunities, you can always take advantage of the fruits of technological progress – special game applications that will captivate the child, help him learn the letters, start reading. And most importantly, they will awaken in the baby an interest in learning, and in the future you will remember them many times with a kind word.

Of course, not all applications are worthy of your attention – some are uninteresting, some are ineffective, some are too difficult for preschoolers. So that you do not waste your time, nerve cells, we have compiled for you the top 3 best games for learning the alphabet: compare, evaluate, play. But first, let’s talk about what every parent of a preschooler needs to know.

Learning to read: problems and solutions

The most important thing is to determine when the child is ready to learn. Attempts to introduce the baby to letters too early may fail – the child will not only not learn what is required of him, but will lose confidence in his abilities, lose interest in learning in general.

How to understand that the baby is already ready to get acquainted with the letters?

  • He understands what others are saying to him. It is better if he understands not just words, but whole sentences.
  • The baby has a fairly rich vocabulary. The more words a child knows, the easier it will be for him to read.
  • The child must build sentences correctly, have good pronunciation. This item should not be considered as a mandatory criterion – it is difficult to expect a perfectly delivered speech from a preschooler, but the baby should speak confidently enough, and you should understand him well.

How to make your child’s acquaintance with letters as comfortable and effective as possible?

There are certain rules that will allow you to make the learning process pleasant and comfortable for the child, respectively, increase the effectiveness of classes:

  • Exercise regularly and in small amounts. Young children are not able to concentrate on one activity for a long time, especially if this activity requires perseverance and constant attention. But five minutes of practice is better than nothing. And if there are 5-7 such training sessions per day? You will get a full-fledged lesson – which will be useful, while not causing rejection in the child. On the other hand, if the kid likes it, if he is carried away, you should not tear him away from the “lesson” – this often happens if the classes are presented in a playful way;
  • Do not scold the child for failures in the learning process, but on the contrary, praise more often. You should not perceive the failures of the baby as a result of laziness and negligence. In fact, learning to read is difficult – adults do it automatically, and the child has to correlate the letter with the sound, combine sounds, memorize syllables, add them, understand the meaning of each word, and then each sentence, text. This really requires maximum concentration, and also experience – which the child does not have. Therefore, notice even small successes, this will motivate the baby. If you feel that you are ready to break loose and make a remark, stop the lesson, get distracted, return to the letters a little later, when you are in a good mood;
  • Read books aloud and discuss what you read. Reading aloud allows you to expand the vocabulary of children, which can then be a great help in learning to read. In addition, a child will be able to understand from a very early age that different worlds are hidden behind different books – interesting, fascinating, incredible. And once the desire to get into these worlds on their own, regardless of adults, will become so strong that the child himself will take a book and begin to try to read. Do not forget to discuss what you have read – ask your child questions that he is able to understand at his age and which he can answer.

And one more thing. Do not rush to do everything at once. Go from simple to complex. First, let the child get acquainted with the letters and sounds. Then syllables can be made from sounds, then short words. And only when all these steps are successfully completed, you can proceed to reading longer and more complex words.

In order to best prepare yourself for the process of teaching your child to read, we advise you to read our article “How to teach your child to read”.

Different methods of teaching reading

There are different methods of teaching reading. And there are no unambiguously bad and good, senseless and effective – when choosing a technique, you should focus on the child: on his age, character, perseverance, his preferences. It is also worth sensibly assessing your capabilities – if you are not ready to regularly engage with your child on your own, you should not choose methods that require your vigilant attention and control.

warehouse reading

Warehouse reading. We are talking about the Zaitsev technique, which is very popular today. Although in fact, learning to read through warehouses was practiced in Rus’. The essence of the method is to forget for a while about letters and attempts to divide words into syllables, which can be short and long, simple and complex. Warehouses are either two or one letter: a consonant and a vowel, a vowel and a consonant, a consonant with a soft or hard sign, or a separate vowel and a consonant letter. Education is supposed to be through cubes, on the sides of which warehouses are written. The cubes are different – in size, color, content, this is done so that the child understands the difference between vowels and consonants, voiced and soft, between different types of warehouses. An undoubted plus of the technique is the playful form and a soft transition from simple to complex.

Syllabic reading

N.S. Zhukova’s methodology, on the basis of which the primer was created. This method of teaching reading was used by the Romans. In Zhukova’s primer, a system has been built in which sounds with letters are gradually introduced into speech. At the initial stage, the concept of a syllable is introduced, so that the child learns to read together more quickly.

Sound analytical-synthetic teaching methodology

A method that is now actively used in kindergartens and schools in our country. The technique was developed by A.I. Voskresenskaya, a Soviet methodologist and teacher of the Russian language. Voskresenskaya created a unique order in which children learn sounds and letters. First, kids learn letters that add up to simple syllables and words, then the complexity increases. It turns out that at first children learn syllables of two letters and simple words of two syllables. Then the children get acquainted with the syllables of three letters, where the vowel is in the center. After that, the two stages are combined and the children learn to read words from the studied syllables. Further, words of three syllables and six letters are studied, and then incrementally.

The role of applications in teaching reading

Just a few decades ago, all options for teaching children to read required patience, tact, and pedagogical skills from adults. And a lot of time. Today, games for learning the alphabet and reading can be called to help.

These applications have many advantages:

  • Education in the form of a game. This means that the child’s interest will be maintained at a high level, which means that you can count on the high efficiency of classes;
  • The ability to devote any free time to learning. Remember, we wrote above that it is important to exercise little by little, but regularly – special applications provide excellent conditions for complying with this principle. Got a free minute? Play and learn;
  • Competent construction of the training program, from simple to complex. Scenario development often involves teachers, speech therapists and other specialists who help make games not only interesting for kids, but also as useful as possible. The child effortlessly gets acquainted with the letters, while he does not have to face unsolvable puzzles, the complexity gradually increases as the child’s skills are fixed.

The application will not lose patience when the child makes the tenth mistake. It will be ready to play with your baby anytime, anywhere, for as long as you need. It will always praise for success and give something as a reward. With its help, the child will get acquainted with letters, sounds, learn to put them into syllables or warehouses, then into words and sentences.

Of course, all of the above applies only to high-quality applications developed by professionals in the field of child psychology and pedagogy. Unfortunately, there are not only useful and interesting games in the public domain, but also those that can be frankly harmful – capable of discouraging a child from learning for a long time. Therefore, the choice of educational applications should be approached as carefully and responsibly as possible.

You can, for example, listen to the recommendations of Roskachestvo and evaluate factors such as:

  • The presence or absence of advertising, the imposition of in-app purchases. If every five minutes the child has to interrupt for commercials, the game is unlikely to be useful;
  • Easy to set up. The interface should be as simple as possible for a preschooler. Instructions for use will also not be superfluous – for parents so that they can familiarize themselves and, if necessary, tell the child what to do and how;
  • Data on teaching methods. It’s good when the game is built on the same teaching methodology that you use with your child. Otherwise, the baby may get confused when using different approaches;
  • Application security. This can include items such as parental control, a guarantee of the absence of malware, requests for personal data and encryption during transmission and storage.

It is worth spending a little time to choose from the variety of applications presented the one that can interestingly acquaint the kid with letters, open for him the wonderful world of fairy tales and adventure stories, instill a love of reading. We, for our part, have tried to narrow your search as much as possible – we have selected for you the three best games for learning the alphabet: compare and choose what suits you best.

Conclusion

All three applications presented in the review deserve to be in the bowels of your smartphone or tablet and form a child’s sustainable long-term interest in learning. The child will return to the fabulous worlds of applications again and again to learn how to read – easily, imperceptibly, fun.

1. At what age should a child have an iPad?

The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that parents refrain from allowing any sedentary screen time (including watching shows and playing screen games) for children below one, and those above two may be allowed no more than one hour of screen time. Therefore, you may allow your child to use the iPad only after two (1).

2. How much time should a toddler spend on an iPad?

Children between the ages of two to five may be allowed to use an iPad or watch TV for an hour on weekdays and three hours on weekends. However, they must avoid using screens during meals, bedtimes, and family events (2).

Ipad apps for toddlers can help them learn basic language, numbers, and other activities. PBS kids games, Elmo loves ABCs, wood puzzles, cut the rope, etc., are some of the iPad apps for toddlers. You may choose the app based on your child’s requirements and interests. These apps are one of the best ways to learn the alphabet and colors without hassle. Video apps such as YouTube kids can also be beneficial for toddlers. Although iPad apps help learn, limiting screen time for better eye health and learning from other sources is essential.

The best free kids apps for iPad

Our favorite free iPad apps, learning tools, and games for toddlers and children.

OLogy: Science for Kids

OLogy: Science for Kids is an iPad app from the American Museum of Natural History intended to infuse scientific knowledge into young people’s heads. It does this with a mix of book-like pages and interactivity, covering a range of subjects in its few dozen sections.

The entry point is a bunch of large cards, which don’t appear to be ordered in any particular manner. But every one of them when tapped opens up a new world for your resident youngling. They can delve into stargazing, find out why the T-Rex had tiny arms, and learn about biodiversity.

The more traditional pages are nicely laid out, akin to a colorful tome. But there are also game-like sections – such as searching for a range of species while birdwatching – and drag-and-drop quizzes. For free, it seems like a no-brainer download that will help fill young brains with the good stuff.

Duolingo ABC

Duolingo ABC is an educational aid, designed to help young children familiarize themselves with reading and writing. Much like the Duolingo language-learning app, lessons take the form of mini-games – although the ones here are designed to be approachable enough for young children, with minimal input from adults.

It’s intentionally repetitious, but attention is retained by the bite-sized nature of each lesson, and regular changes in approach. One minute your child will be drawing letterforms, and the next matching pictures or popping bubbles that contain specific letters.

The app’s very linear nature may make it a slog for an older child, and the lack of profiles for multiple users is baffling. Still, as an entirely free (from pricing, ads, and IAP) app, it hits the spot – especially on iPad, which gives little fingers more room to maneuver.

Toca Life: World

Toca Life: World mashes together all of the Toca Life apps into one big globe your kid can explore with a flurry of frantic tapping. New locations are built automatically if you have other Toca Life apps installed, or you can buy them with one-off IAPs.

Even for free, you get plenty to delve into. Bop City has a bunch of stuff to check out, including a hairdresser, theater, and mini mall, each with plentiful interactive elements. Figures can be dragged about, and you can make three custom ones in the free version of the character creator.

As a free app, it’s solid, generous stuff – especially on the iPad, where there’s more room to play. Combined with other Toca Life apps, it’s pretty much essential.

Noah’s Ark Animalibrium

Noah’s Ark Animalibrium might have the famous tale in its name, but this take on the story breaks with convention, to say the least. There’s no ark here – merely what appears to be a large wooden bowl. And rather than the animals heading in two-by-two, the colorful critters must all balance atop the wobbling craft.

It’s an amusing slice of interactive entertainment, and should help young players to improve their coordination and (virtual) stacking powers. Beyond the balancing act, there are buttons to prod to change the weather, and snap a photo. And for those kids who fancy a trip back in time, a one-off IAP ($1.99/£1.99/AU$2.99) unlocks a pack of dinosaurs to save from a prehistoric flood.

Tankee

Tankee lets kids watch other people playing and talking about video games. If you’re of a certain age, that might seem baffling, but it’s something kids really like to do.

Where Tankee differentiates itself is in curation: every video on the system has been watched by an actual human. This avoids issues found in certain other online video networks, where kids may suddenly find themselves viewing unsuitable fare.

Tankee also deals with another big concern: comments. It achieves this by omitting such functionality entirely, although some barebones ‘networking’ remains. Create an account and your kid can stash favorite videos for later and follow specific creators. If they particularly enjoy a show, they can madly hammer smiley stickers in real time to let everyone know.

Wonderbly Story Time Books

Wonderbly Story Time Books is an iPad take on personalized illustrated story books for children. The premise is the protagonist has forgotten their name, and must go on an adventure to collect it, one letter at a time.

The story is nicely presented, and the app deftly deals with multiple instances of the same letter by providing variations for each one. (In fact, this works to an entertaining degree – we tried using the name ‘Aaaaa’ and were presented with five non-repeating vignettes!)

Part of the point of the app is you’ll get to the end, and then buy a real copy of the actual book. But even if you resist those papery, spendy charms, the app’s a blast – and it even lets you store previous adventures, so none are ever lost.

Lego Creator Islands

Lego Creator Islands is for fans of the popular construction toy when there are no plastic bricks close at hand. It starts you off with a little island, on which you build a house. Construction is simple: tap piles of bricks and they magically combine into pieces of a finished Lego set, which you drag into place.

Rinse and repeat a few times and your kid will beam as they watch their island increasingly come alive, populated with Lego minifigs and bounding Lego animals, and dotted with buildings, trees and vehicles.

The experience is, admittedly, not that deep, and you can see most of what it has to offer in an hour or so. But it’s always fun to return to, and certainly beats treading on a Lego brick while barefoot.

Sago Mini Friends

Sago Mini Friends is a sweet-natured collection of adorable mini-games, ideal for young children. After selecting a character to play, you visit a neighborhood of colorful houses. Knock on a door and you’ll be invited inside for a playdate.

The activities are varied and smartly designed. There’s a birthday party, where gifts are gleefully unwrapped, and a birdhouse to fix by hammering in nails. Our favorite, though, is a cleverly conceived snack time that finds two friends sitting side-by-side. Feed one and the other looks a bit glum, which encourages the young player to learn to share.

Entirely lacking IAP and advertising, Sago Mini Friends is a no-brainer for any parent who wants a safe, free, fun, educational app for their youngster to spend a bit of quality time with.

Zen Studio

According to the developer’s blurb, Zen Studio is all about helping children to relax and focus, by providing a kind of finger-painting that can only exist in the digital realm. Frankly, we take issue with the ‘children’ bit, because Zen Studio has a welcoming and pleasing nature that should ensure it’s a hit with every iPad user.

You start off with a grid of triangles and a column of colored paints. Tap a paint to choose your color and then tap individual triangles or drag across the grid to start drawing. Every gesture you make is accompanied by musical notes that play over an ambient background soundtrack.

Bar the atmosphere being knocked a touch by a loud squelch noise whenever a new paint tube is selected, the mix of drawing tool and musical instrument is intoxicating. When you’re done, your picture can be squirted to the Photos app, ready for sharing with the world.

This is, however, a limited freebie in some ways. You get eight canvases, which can be blank or based on templates. If you want more, you can buy an IAP to unlock the premium version of the app. Still, for no outlay at all, you get a good few hours of chill-out noodly fun — more, if you’re happy drawing over the same canvases again and again.

Lego Life

Lego Life is a social network for kids whose lives revolve around plastic bricks. Once you’re signed up, you explore feeds and follow themes, to become a better builder, or just see what’s current in the world of Lego.

Unsurprisingly, there’s a nod towards advertising of a kind, in new product videos being liberally sprinkled about. But mostly, this is an app about inspiration. You’re regularly offered building challenges and knowledge tests; during lazy days, you can slap stickers all over a virtual Lego kit, or build a mini-figure for your profile.

Given that it’ll mostly be kids using the app, it’s worth noting usernames are anonymized. You can’t type your own, and instead select from semi-random word lists. EmpressSensibleMotorbike, meet ElderSupersonicJelly!

Laugh & Learn Shapes & Colors Music Show for Baby

Laugh & Learn Shapes & Colors Music Show for Baby is a two-part game designed for children as young as six months old.

In Level 1, your youngling – now armed with a worryingly expensive piece of technology – can tilt and tap the screen to make shapes appear and bounce around. But Level 2 ramps things up considerably.

“Let’s put on a show,” chirps the app as the five shapes wiggle and jig about on the screen, lurking above a colorful keyboard. And you know what’s next: maddeningly jaunty earworms, augmented by a deliriously happy baby smacking the huge piano keys.

Your slow descent into madness will be worth it for the smile on their little face.

Toca Tailor Fairy Tales

Toca Tailor Fairy Tales is a dressing up app. You choose from a male or female customer, and then set about giving them a new and exciting outfit.

As with other Toca Boca fare, this is a tactile, immediate app. Tap a garment to adjust its type; drag and you’ll change its length. Accessories can be added from an expanding box, if you decide your appreciative on-screen ‘manakin’ needs a trendy hat.

The best bit, though, is the materials section. For each part of the garment, you can drag and drop materials onto it. This isn’t a question of merely recoloring either – you can pinch/rotate to make all kinds of crazy patterns, and even import photos or snap a texture using the iPad’s camera. Great stuff for tiny wannabe fashion designers.

35 Inexpensive DIY Picnic Games (+ Printables)

35 Inexpensive DIY Picnic Games (+ Printables)

As you look forward to getting out of the house and finding an outdoor activity that the whole family will enjoy, you might consider going on a picnic.

At any picnic, you need delicious food and good company, but, beyond that, you also need something fun to do. Why not spice up your picnic with low-cost, easy and fun picnic games that go beyond the basics like Hide-and-Seek and Tag?

It doesn’t matter if you’re picnicking in the park or just in your backyard. All of these games are simple to set up and require materials that you likely already have around your house. Skip to one of the accompanying printables below.

Bottle Cap Curling Printable | Lawn Battleship Printable | Targeted Dodgeball Printable | Pin the Face on the Tree Printable

Unique Low-Cost Picnic Games for Kids

Whether you want to play a relaxed game while sitting on your picnic blanket or a more active game running around the park, there are plenty of DIY options that will keep your family entertained long after you’ve finished eating your hamburgers and hotdogs.

Bottle Cap Curling: In this modified version of curling, place these printable bullseyes on either end of the picnic table.

Flick bottle caps across the table and try to land them in your opponent’s bullseye. Download the bottle cap curling printable.

Finger Twister: You’ve likely played this classic game on your living room floor or in your backyard with your hands and feet. Why not shrink the game and bring a miniature version to your picnic? Draw red, yellow, green and blue circles on a piece of paper and play with your fingers.

Windy Day Can Challenge: Before tossing your used soda cans in the recycling bin, have a little fun with them. See how high you can stack up your cans before they fall over. (Bonus points if you can build a high tower when it’s windy.)

DIY Dry Erase Surface: You can make any flat outdoor surface into a dry-erase board by covering it with contact paper. Simply cover a picnic table, the outer wall of your house or even an old tree stump with contact paper and challenge someone to a doodle contest or a friendly match of dots and boxes.

Marbles and Toes Game: Here’s a fun game to strengthen the muscles in your feet and have fun while doing so.

Place some marbles in a bucket. See who can remove more marbles from the bucket using only their toes. (It’s harder than it looks!)

Crate Tug of War: Tug of war is fun when you’re standing in the grass, but it’s even more fun when you’re a bit off balance. Stand on picnic benches or crates and see who can pull the rope farther without falling off. (Please be wise and take it easy if you decide to attempt this).

Towering Tree Test: Find a tall tree. Then write down how tall you think the tree is. You can then figure out whose guess is the closest to the actual height of the tree by measuring your shadow and the tree’s shadow. The approximate height of the tree will be the length of the tree’s shadow times your height divided by the length of your shadow.

Simple and Classic Picnic Games

Of course, you can’t forget about the classic picnic games at your next family outing. There’s a reason that bean bag toss and lawn bowling have been around for so long.

They’re easy to learn and can keep your family entertained for hours.

Lawn Battleship Bean Bag Toss: Spread out these printable “battleships” in the grass and try to land bean bags on them to “sink” them. The smaller the ship you sink, the more points you earn. Download the lawn Battleship bean bag toss printable.

Paper Plate Bean Bag Toss: Or, if you’d rather play a more traditional bean bag toss game, write the numbers 25, 50, 75 and 100 on four paper plates and spread the plates out in a line. Try to land your bean bags on the plates and tally up the points.

Outdoor Tic Tac Toe: If you have several hula hoops lying around your garage, form a tic tac toe board with circles instead of squares. Lay out nine hula hoops into a grid and use materials from the park or your backyard as the x’s and o’s. For example, you might use loose tree branches for the x’s and stones for the o’s.

Giant Hula Hoop Bubbles: If you have just one or two hula hoops on hand, try creating full-body bubbles.

You can concoct a highly stretchy bubble solution using dish soap, distilled water, bubble solution and a bit of glycerin.

Lawn Bowling: Gather up empty soda bottles and cans and make your own bowling alley. Although this game works best on flat, hard surfaces, you can also play in the grass.

Ring Toss: Perhaps ring toss is so popular at picnics because it’s easy to set up but challenging to play. Make your own rings by tying together pieces of heavy rope and try to throw them over the mouths of soda bottles.

Human Ring Toss: As a popular alternative to the classic ring toss game, try human ring toss. In this game, hula hoops serve as the rings. See how many hula hoops you can gently toss over someone.

Straw Race: Try to keep a small piece of paper attached to the end of a drinking straw by consistently sucking in through the straw. Whoever can successfully transport the piece of paper on the end of their straw from one location to another wins.

Popsicle Eating Contest: Cool off by participating in a popsicle eating contest.

Whoever can finish their popsicle first wins the challenge (and perhaps a brain freeze).

Picnic Basket Unpacking Race: You can use your picnic basket for so much more than just transporting your food. If you have two packed picnic baskets, see who can unpack their picnic basket the fastest. At the end of your picnic, you can also hold a packing race and see who can (properly) pack their picnic basket back up the fastest.

Low-Cost Picnic Games for Large Groups

If you’re planning an extended day in the park with family, food and fun, check out these picnic games to keep your whole crew engaged, from dodgeball with a twist to an outdoor take on the classic Pin the Tail on the Donkey party game.

Targeted Dodgeball: Traditional dodgeball is fun, but targeted dodgeball is even more exciting. Tape these printable targets to your clothes. Hitting opponents’ red targets means you automatically lose the game, while hitting green targets scores you extra points.

Download the targeted dodgeball printable.

Picnic Basket Ball Balance: Pack a few ropes, a tennis ball and a roll of masking tape in your picnic basket. Tie the ropes around the edges of the roll of masking tape and place the ball on top. Have everyone grab a rope and balance the roll of tape so that the ball doesn’t fall off. Try to transfer the ball to an empty picnic basket by pulling certain ropes and relaxing others.

Picnic Telephone: Look around you and come up with a phrase or sentence based on your surroundings. Whisper that sentence into someone’s ear and have them whisper what they hear into the next person’s ear. Go down the line and determine how much the original sentence has changed at the end.

Hula Hoop Tag: In this exciting twist on tag, everyone must continually hula hoop while walking or running around. If you tag someone but your hula hoop falls to the ground, the tag doesn’t count, and play continues.

Connected Tag: Start with three people holding hands.

Those people are “it” and must remain connected while attempting to tag other players. Anyone who is tagged by that group of three must join hands with the group of three and work to tag other players. The game ends when everyone is holding hands.

Pin the Face on the Tree: Like Pin the Tail on the Donkey, Pin the Face on the Tree involves trying to tape a funny face onto a tree while blindfolded. Download the Pin the Face on the Tree printable.

Recycled Tower: Build a tower from the materials that you find in the park or in your backyard. This could include the leftover food containers from your picnic, branches, rocks or any other materials you find lying around.

Picnic Blanket Balloon Transfer: Have several people hold two different picnic blankets. Transfer a balloon from one picnic blanket to the other by flapping the blanket up and down without letting the balloon touch the ground.

Back-to-Back Balloon Walk: Stand back-to-back in groups of two with balloons wedged between your backs.

Try to be the first pair to cross the finish line with your balloon still safely wedged between your backs.

String Donut Eating Contest: Thread several donuts or cookies with holes through a rope. Tie the ends of the rope to nearby trees and space out the treats. Challenge your family to an eating contest. Whoever eats their treat first without using their hands and without allowing the treat to fall off the rope wins.

Soccer Ball Would You Rather: Write several “would you rather” statements on the different sides of a soccer ball. (You can use washable markers.) Then, toss the ball around and have people answer the prompt that they see first.

DIY Backyard Water Games

Water Balloon Fence Challenge: If you’re near a fence with narrow openings, try to slip as many water balloons through the openings as you can within a minute without popping them. Teams of two can even stand on either side of the fence and help pull the balloons through.

Water Balloon Face Challenge: Try to draw a complete face on a water balloon with a pen without puncturing the balloon.

The person who draws the best face wins.

Water Balloon Dye Fight: Fill your water balloons with natural dyes. (Learn more about how to make natural dyes from food in your kitchen.) Wear a white T-shirt and watch as the water balloons colorfully stain your shirt.

Water Balloon Limbo: Balance a water balloon on two pieces of rope held tightly. Limbo under the strings and try not to make the water balloon fall.

Water Balloon Pit: Form a circle in the grass with a few jump ropes. Fill the circle with a pile of water balloons, jump in and try to pop as many water balloons as possible.

Ice Block Treasure Hunt: Fill a plastic container with water and submerge little toys inside. Freeze the tub into a big block of ice. Then, chip away at the ice block until you recover the treasures inside.

Water Transfer Race: Set up several narrow glasses of the same size in a line. Fill the first glass to the brim with water. Try to transfer as much water as possible from the first glass to the second and down the line.

See how much water you end up with after you’ve completed all of the transfers.

Outdoor games. What to play on a picnic

We all love to relax in nature, there are fragrant kebabs, all kinds of salads. But outdoor recreation does not only mean food. These are funny songs, conversations and games. If possible, take badminton, a soccer ball, tennis or table tennis (if there are tables nearby or a place where you can stretch the net) for a picnic. You can take other games: chess, cards, dominoes, sea battle, loto, twister. If none of the above is at hand, then you can play catch-up, hide and seek, quests. There are times when nothing comes to mind, and the company becomes boring. nine0003

Relax.com.ua won’t let you get bored and will be happy to help you choose picnic games .

Crocodile

Crocodile is a pantomime game. You can either draw them on paper (if there is a large spread), or show them on yourself.

The host of the game thinks of a phrase or word, and the player must draw this phrase. The audience must guess what is shown or drawn. The one who guesses shows the next word, and the one who showed earlier will guess. Phrases can be varied, even the most ridiculous. If there are a lot of participants You can split into teams and guess words or phrases for a while, whoever has more guessed phrases or words wins. nine0003

Associations

Everyone can participate in the game, but in turn. A leaf is glued to one person’s forehead (sticker) and any noun is written on it (the leaf can be immediately removed if desired, but first all viewers should see the written word). The participant must ask questions about this word, and try to guess the hidden word from the answers.

Silent

Participants stand in a row, and when they disperse, they must again stand in a row, but not by height or as they stood before, but by numbers. The facilitator walks around the players from behind and slaps each on the back with his palm. How many times he claps, the player will have such a serial number.

After that, a signal will sound (any, whistle, clap, shout), and the participants line up by numbers without uttering a sound (if no one is against, you can tie your mouths).

But the funny thing is that the presenter taps on the back as many times as he likes. He can hit 1 twice, or 4 hit 2, and never hit 5, and so on. We advise you to shoot all this on camera, as the participants will also want to see how they mumble something inarticulate, wink and laugh in vibration mode, and in parallel trample on each other.

Fanty

Each participant writes some task on paper. All papers are folded into a bag or hat. Then the pieces of paper are shuffled, each participant pulls out a piece of paper and does what is indicated there. nine0003

10 actual games for a picnic or entertainment at a picnic

Spending time with friends and family in the bosom of nature is a promising and very tempting prospect in itself. Although, it often happens that relatives and friends, getting together, away from civilization and all sorts of technical assistants, after a hearty meal, begin to get bored. They are “attacked” by a sleepy state, even the blues sometimes. And boredom, as you know, is the main enemy of a good rest and the most powerful “destroyer” of positive emotions and memories from the long-awaited holiday. How to avoid it? What kind of entertainment to come up with for a picnic? What to play using only “improvised” tools and devices available in wildlife?
nine0003

In the bosom of nature, all adults suddenly become children for a few hours. It often happens that they want to run, fool around, have fun. And if there is no stiff grandmother among your relatives and friends who threatens with a dry finger and says: “Ai-yay-yay! It is not good for such an adult boy to splash with water!”, The picnic will take place on “Hurrah!”. If such a grandmother (girl, grandfather) with a bored expression on her face and too strict concepts of what adults can and cannot “enroll” in your team, the holiday is gone! He is threatened by what we wrote about in the announcement: boredom, sleep and the desire to leave as soon as possible.
Although we, perhaps, are not set up for the first option! Suppose you came to rest outside the city, found a wonderful clearing, have already fried a barbecue and ate almost all the sandwiches in store. Now what? “And now – let’s move on to water procedures!”, – the radio host of the Soviet era would say. You can, of course, to the water! The main thing is that these “procedures” are active, fun, funny and massive!
nine0003

In addition to the traditional ones – football, volleyball, softball and tug of war, we want to offer you as many as ten extraordinary, new games adapted to picnic conditions!

Game #1.

Camping Lasso

Props: empty bottles for juice, beer, other drinks, box, rings.
nine0003

The only thing you need to take from home especially for this game are wooden rings, about 10 cm in diameter. If you have a small child, finding the rings will not be a problem for you at all. Many children’s toys designed for children from one to three years old involve collecting pyramids from rings of different diameters. Here, take them! If there are none, use improvised means (wood, wire) to make them. Well, if you really really want to play, but you didn’t think of taking the rings on purpose, in a picnic, something similar can be made from willow twigs.
nine0003

Object of the game: Place the bottles (not necessarily of the same material or the same height) in the box. From a certain distance (without stepping over the protective starting line), you need to throw a ring on the neck of the bottle. Be sure to count your points! Those bottles that are located above – let them “bring” you fewer points, below – more. It is very fun when the game turns into a competition and gains “gambling momentum”.

nine0088

Game 2. Landscape bowling

Props: 6 plastic bottles half filled with water, soccer ball.

Essence: perfectly follows the rules of the standard bowling game. The only difference is that the “path” is the alley of the park, the “skittles” are water bottles, and the “ball” is a soccer ball.
nine0003

Perhaps there is one more difference between garden bowling and regular bowling. “Kingleys” at the picnic again line up in a row for the next throw, you have to do it yourself! However, it’s even more interesting!

Game 3.

Walking Golf

The same paths and alleys of the park can also serve as a good basis for a kind of mini-golf “ala picnic”. Moreover, preparing for such a game can also be great creative fun! Build holes out of tree bark, pebbles, leaves, and sticks. Create obstacles on the way of the ball to the hole. Well, use ordinary strong tree branches as clubs!
nine0003

Game 4. “Twister on the grass”

Twister is the favorite game of many generations! Twister is a favorite fun, both during theme parties and entertainment for cute family evenings. But the best part is that you can play twister not only at home (using a standard canvas with multi-colored circles), but also at a picnic. True, before you start inventing various shapes and testing the human body for flexibility, you need to draw a field for the twister. This can be done directly on the grass, with spray paints (spraying them symmetrically through a round hole in a cardboard box).
nine0003

When the paint dries in the sun, you are welcome! Get ready for some amazing fun!

Game 5. Angry Birds in the Field

I hope there are none among you who have never heard of a slightly crazy computer pocket game? If there is, I will remind the rules. There are two opposing “camps” – angry colorful birds and green pigs. Birds, at the cost of their lives, strive to drop concrete blocks, blocks of ice, etc. on the pigs’ heads at all costs. .
In the version of the fun for a picnic, “angry birds” are sandbags, “pigs” are canned aluminum cans, and the “accelerator” is a favorite toy of all boys, originally from childhood – a wooden slingshot with an elastic band!
By the way, if you still have spray paint, after building a field for a twister on the grass, you can paint the cans green with it! “Angry Birds in the Field” will look more believable!
nine0003

Game 6.

“Cities on the grass”

Grass Cities is probably one of the few picnic games for which it is advisable to take cards with letters of the alphabet from home.

Requisites: Large cardboard cards with letters of the alphabet.

Essence: No more than two or three participants can play this game at once (because 33 letters of the Russian alphabet do not allow a very global turn around). Participants of the game (according to the domino method) each take 10 cards with letters. The first – makes a word (for example, the name of the same city), the second – comparing the cards he has and the letters of the opponent’s word, lays out his word on the grass. The task of the second is to use at least one letter from the opponent’s word in his word. Further – you can use one letter from two words already, etc. If one of the opponents runs out of cards (or cannot think of a word with what he has), he has the right to take several cards from the general “reserve fund”. The one who does not have options, and cards with letters remain in their hands, loses.
nine0003

Game 7. Tic-Tac-Toe

A simple but wise game to develop attention and logical thinking! Lay out on a flat surface of sand (earth) smooth, flat stones of approximately the same size. These will be the cells for the game (as you remember, they need 9). On smaller cobblestones, use paint to paint tic-tac-toe (at least 5 pieces, but you can make several spare figures). All is ready! You can start the game! Have you already determined whose first move? A lot can depend on this!

Game 8. Sharpshooter

Again, aluminum cans (hung from the fire pit you just used to make the fish soup) and pebbles can be great props for some fun fun! Try to hit the jar from some distance! How did it happen? Then congratulations from the bottom of our hearts! From now on, you bear the title of “the most accurate shooter”!
nine0003

Game 9.

Treasured Vessel

If you have ever gone on a real hike, you probably know that the most valuable thing on the road is water! The next competition involves filling the “vessels” with precious liquid.

Requisite: plastic bottles, large foam pads.

Rules: This game is best played by the water. All participants are divided into two teams. Each team chooses among its players a “vessel keeper” (as a rule, this role goes to someone who cannot or does not want to run fast). The “Keeper” stands twenty paces from the reservoir, holding an open bottle above his head (a “softer” version is in outstretched arms). The task of the participants of each team is to immerse the washcloth in the pond (so that it absorbs as much water as possible), bring this washcloth to the bottle and unscrew it over the neck to the last drop. The team that fills the bottle in this way wins.
nine0003

Game 10

Candy, popcorn, and other picnic food is also fun to play with!

For example, invite your friends to pour bright ememdems from one plastic bottle to another using only one hand.

Bubbles + Whisks = Fun Cause and Effect Activities for Toddlers

Thunk, splat!

Uh-oh…your toddler accidentally knocked their bowl of oatmeal off the high chair. Or, based on their giggles, maybe not so accidentally.

Sure, it’s a little frustrating that now you have to grab another bowl and serving of food—but that fallen meal isn’t just fun and games for your child. It’s also giving them an early science lesson and an eye-opening realization.

“When toddlers see that their actions create results, like when they push a bowl of food off the table or tear down a tower of blocks, they’re learning the basics of cause and effect—and that their actions can change and affect things around them,” explains Theresa Maves from KinderCare’s Education team.

We like to give children opportunities to explore what the world has to offer. That’s why this month, we’re splashing around with one of kids’ favorite things: water!
