Who doesn’t love seeing the fire truck fly by when it’s on its way to a fire? Fires can be a huge danger and those people put their lives on the line each day. I’d sure be proud if I had a little fire fighter in my home.

pit stop in zero gravity / Projects / Best photos Is it possible to make a pit stop (changing wheels on a Formula 1 racing car) in zero gravity? It turns out yes! The project was born as a result of cooperation between the Federal Space Agency (Roskosmos) and Aston Martin Red Bull Racing, a Formula 1 team.
Denis Klero :
A special board Il-76 MDK was chartered for these tasks, which is used for training astronauts and is capable of simulating weightlessness. Also, the car of Sebastian Vettel, in which he raced in 2005, was delivered to Russia. This RB1 car was chosen because of its small dimensions, and the weight was reduced to 400 kg. The video was filmed by the production company ProFilm. Directed by Andreas Bruns. In total, about a hundred people were involved in organizing this event. Well, the author of these lines photographed the whole process.

In 2019, Aston Martin Red Bull Racing set a world record by pitting Max Verstappen’s car in just 1.82 seconds. During the flights, the task was to make a pit stop in zero gravity in 20 seconds.

The key person during the zero gravity pit stop was Joe Robinson, the main mechanic for the support team. The team of mechanics conducted preliminary training on the ground to make the most of their time in the air. After all, artificial weightlessness lasts 20-30 s.
The Il-76 MDK aircraft rises to a height of 9 thousand meters, after which it begins to descend in free fall. During this controlled fall, an imitation of weightlessness is created – up to 30 seconds. I participated in five of the seven flights performed by the Aston Martin Red Bull Racing team. In total, I experienced more than 50 weightlessness modes and more than 100 2g overloads.
A short video about how the work on the Zero Gravity project took place on board the Il-76 MDK aircraft. The video material was shot by Denis Klero himself in parallel with photography.

Tailed has turned into a real celebrity and serves together with his rescuers

For more than three years, a cat named Hydrant has been living in the fire department at the Mochishche station near Novosibirsk. This is a local star: he almost died in a fire when he was very young. Fortunately, the Novosibirsk firefighters pulled the kitten out of the fire and settled in, named Hydrant. Since then, every day he meets his saviors with a joyful purr. On the eve of Cat Day, KP-Novosibirsk correspondents found out how a cat lives among fire trucks.

When we called the fire department with questions about Hydrant, the legendary cat was basking on the sofa. The pet is already used to being the center of attention from time to time.
– No one chases him, we feed him, we take care of him, – the KP-Novosibirsk unit told with a smile.

Firefighters are calm about the fact that Hydrant has become a local celebrity. He successfully does his job – catches mice, and also pleases the employees of the unit. A kind of fluffy anti-stress. After all, nothing soothes after hard work like a soft woolen cloud perched on your knees.
The pet feels as comfortable as possible at the station. The only thing is that he is still afraid of the roar of fire engine engines. As soon as the red and white colossus starts up in the garage, the cat hurries to hide in a secluded place.
Of course, they don’t take a cat with them. Photo: Alena MARTYNOVA, KP-Novosibirsk
By the way, Hydrant became a father some time ago. He was brought in with a local cat.
– One man was picking him up. He has a cat … Well, you understand … Subsequently, she gave birth to kittens from Hydrant, – they said in part.
After the publication of the material about the legendary cat, there were those who wanted to take him in. However, the firefighters refuse to say goodbye to Hydrant each time.

– There were those who wanted to, but we do not give. How so? What’s wrong! – surprised firemen.
Indeed, for more than three years the cat has become a member of a professional family.
