Columbia Middle School is one of the best middle schools in Dekalb and I’m speaking from experience. I went there for 3 years and it taught me not only how to read and write but how to deal with real life situations including cooking! Columbia has not only led me to be in the top 5% of my graduating high school class but also created another successful African American man from Dekalb County.

Columbia Middle School is a developing school. I see great potential in the students and the overall school. Next year I plan to help the school in more ways the one. I am proud to be an advocate for Columbia Middle School!

My son is a magnet student & an AB student. If it wasn’t for that, I would move in the area of ‘better schools’. They have gang problems, kids setting fires on the school buses, etc… I teach my kids to be the best at what ever they set their minds to but it’s hard when they’re faced with things like this on a daily basis. The teachers nor principal can do anything with the kids because the parents can’t. It starts at home so I don’t blame the school…

I think Rowland Elementary has a lot of potential. The teachers and staff work together to educate and counsel students. You can tell they genuinely care about their kids. The environment is a positive one with a nice balance of rewards for positive behavior and loss of privileges for negative behavior. The school is in serious need of better funding as the building is 55 years old and there are several portable classrooms to accommodate overcrowding. The largest opportunity for the school is parental involvement. A solid PTA could accomplish a lot but there is little to no interest on behalf of most parents. Otherwise, I have been very pleased with my child’s kindergarten experience at Rowland and look forward to next year.

I have a little prek student who has just completed his first year at SPC. He is graduating prek writing, praying, and with great new friendships. We love his teachers not only in the classroom, but outside of the class. We are very blessed and fortunate to find a prek program that is well structure and instilling great morals. The program for prek is a full day of school just like the other grade levels and the school offers before and after school care. Can’t wait to see how next year goes in kinder!

My 5 year old currently attends this school in Ms.Dickersons kindergarten class and she is amazing! He has advanced so much in the past couple of months. All of the staff is on a personable level with all of the children speaking to all of them by name as they come in or walking through the halls. the class dojo app is there for the teacher to post pics of the children as they do activities and class work. There is also an option to see their progress and behavior throughout the day.

My experience at this school is by far the worst ever, they have no clubs for the kids. There is nothing about this school that stand out that make them a S.T.E.M this is mostly all black school but not teaching the kids anything. There are no learning field trips, school food is just bad the whole school is just bad.

Our first year was excellent. The second year it had slipped down hill in several ways and the second any additional help was needed we were absolutely abandoned. They do not want anyone, even very intelligent children who score in the top few percentiles, who in any way need additional support. Requests to the teachers, counselors, and principals all had no follow through. It was bitterly disappointing, especially when the results of that were evident.

Fairly homogeneous population. Disconnected school counselor who is really just a paper pusher. We have been at this school for 5 years and only just met the Principal last year. She keeps a low profile. The school’s two best teachers are located in 3rd grade. Beware of 4th grade teachers. They seem to have a collective chip on their shoulders, are mean and even bullying towards the kids (especially males). The Principal instituted a ridiculous silent lunch policy. Don’t expect welcoming smiles from the front office. They recently introduced an overpriced after school program that costs $95 per week and ends at 5:30. It is not designed for the working parent. If you are the child of a white SAHM wealthy PTA member, you will do fine here.

If I didn’t have to send my kids to school here, believe me I wouldn’t. They are completely disorganized. This school is supposed to be the “cream of the crop”, always posting their accomplishments. Try going in there on a testing day, they tell at the kids in the cafeteria like they are in a prison. They teach to test because they need to keep their test scores high so they can keep their reputation up. The principal is a joke. Past and present. The secretary is awful. She does the bare minimum to get through the day. There are a few teachers here that care. Extra curricular teachers are the best. The counselor is a complete joke as well. Don’t send your kid to her. She acts pleasant but if you have a real problem she will brush you off. That’s what the whole school does. If you can’t smile and look pretty, come to school dressed to the nines, act like a perfect parent, and don’t forget to donate all of your paychecks to the Ashford Park foundation, or else you are worthless.

This school is for kids who have stay at home parents that, have the time and patience to teach their kids with the homework given to them. All they have time to do during teaching time is flyers, looking for their next trip deal, internet and text about fees for trips.

Decatur, Georgia – Decatur, Georgia
This article is about Decatur, the county seat of DeKalb County. For the county also located in the U.S. state of Georgia, see Decatur County, Georgia.
Decatur is the city and county seat of DeKalb County, Georgia, which is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. With a population of 24,928 as of the 2020 census, the municipality is sometimes considered larger, as several ZIP codes in unincorporated DeKalb County have a Decatur address. The city is served by three MARTA rail stations (Deatur, East Lake, and Avondale). The city is located approximately 5 miles (8.0 km) northeast of downtown Atlanta and shares its western border with both the City of Atlanta (Kirkwood and Lake Clare boroughs) and unincorporated DeKalb County. The Druid Hills area is located northwest of Decatur. Decatur’s unofficial motto, used by some residents, is “Everything’s Better in Decatur”.

History
Early Age History
Prior to European settlement, the Decatur area was mostly forested (remains of old growth forest near Decatur survive as Fernbank Forest). Decatur was founded at the intersection of two Native American trails, Sandtown which led east from the Chattahoochee River into Utoy Creek, and Shallowford which follows today’s Clairmont Road and eventually crossed near Roswell. The site for the DeKalb County Courthouse was designated in 1822 at what would become downtown Decatur; the city of Decatur was incorporated on December 10, 1823. It was named after US Navy Commodore Stephen Decatur.
Shallowford Road, which led to Mellow Ford, was renamed Claremont Avenue, probably because it does not lead to, from, or past a place called Claremont. Covington Road is now called Sycamore Street, probably because it leads to Covington and has no plane trees. Nelson’s Ferry Road, named after a local family that operated a ferry at the end of the Chattahoochee road, was named Ponce de Leon after a prominent pre-Castro family in Havana, Cuba.
- Stevens Mitchell
American Civil War
During the American Civil War, Decatur became a strategic target in Sherman’s Atlanta Campaign. In July 1864, Major General James McPherson occupied the city to cut off the Confederate supply line from Augusta. On July 22, during the Battle of Atlanta, Confederate cavalry under Major General Joseph Wheeler attacked McPherson’s supply wagons and Union troops left to defend the wagons. A historical marker on the old courthouse marks the site of this skirmish.
We attacked Decatur on the 22nd and took the city, driving out an infantry brigade and a large part of the foot cavalry. Our brigade really took the city, although it was supported on both flanks by a foot cavalry brigade. The fight lasted about two hours and was very hot for some time. The Yankees had hills and houses and fought very well for a while. Our charge was made to divert attention while Hardy made a real attack on the enemy flank. We took more than a hundred prisoners, killed and wounded about a hundred and fifty people. Our losses are about seventy killed and wounded.
– Captain W. L. Nugent, in a letter to his wife
20th century
In the second half of the twentieth century, the Atlanta metropolitan area expanded into unincorporated DeKalb County, eventually surrounding two sides of the city of Decatur. At the same time, many wealthy and middle-class white Americans fled the area for the more remote suburbs. The 1960s and 1970s saw a sharp drop in property values. However, the city has more recently regained economic activity, thanks in part to several long-term downtown development plans that have been implemented, making Decatur a trendy small mixed-use area with easy transportation to downtown Atlanta. Over the past twenty years, it has developed a local and national reputation for being a progressive, highly engaged city that retains a small-town feel despite its proximity to Atlanta.

History
Early History
Decatur was founded at the intersection of two Native American trails: Sand Town, which led east from the Chattahoochee River to Utoy Creek and Shellowford, which follows today Claremont Road, and eventually crossed Roswell. The site for the DeKalb County Courthouse was designated in 1822 at what would become downtown Decatur; the city of Decatur was incorporated on December 10, 1823. It was named after US Navy Commodore Stephen Decatur.
Shallowford Road, which led to Mellow Ford, has been renamed Claremont Avenue, probably because it does not lead to, from, or past a place called Claremont.
— Stevens Mitchell [5]
American Civil War
During the American Civil War, Decatur became a strategic target in Sherman’s Atlanta campaign. In July 1864, Major General James McPherson occupied the city to cut off the Confederate supply line from Augustus. On July 22, during the Battle of Atlanta, Confederate cavalry under Major General Joseph Wheeler attacked McPherson’s supply wagons, and Union troops left to defend the wagons. A historical marker on the old courthouse marks the site of this skirmish.
We attacked Decatur on the 22nd and took the city, driving out a brigade of infantry and a large part of the foot cavalry. Our brigade really took the city, although it was supported on both flanks by a foot cavalry brigade. The fight lasted about two hours and was very hot for some time. The Yankees had hills and houses, and for a time they fought very well. Our charge was made to divert attention while Hardy made a real attack on the enemy flank. We took more than a hundred prisoners, killed and wounded about a hundred and fifty people. Our losses are about seventy killed and wounded.
— Captain W. L. Nugent, in a letter to his wife [6]
20th century
In the second half of the twentieth century, the Atlanta metropolitan area became unincorporated DeKalb County, eventually surrounding two sides of the city of Decatur . Simultaneously, many wealthy and middle-class white Americans fled the area to more distant suburbs. The 1960s and 1970s saw a sharp drop in property values. Recently, however, economic activity has rebounded in the city, thanks in part to several long-term downtown development plans that have come to fruition, making Decatur a trendy little home. mixed neighborhood with easy access to downtown Atlanta. Over the past twenty years, it has developed a local and national reputation for being a progressive, highly engaged city that retains a small-town feel despite its proximity to Atlanta. Registration and tour
The Early Years Amy Ray and Emily Salyers first met and got to know each other while attending Laurel Ridge Elementary School in DeKalb County, Georgia. Not far from Decatur, Georgia, they weren’t close friends, as the Saliers were in a higher grade than Ray. While attending Shamrock High School (now Druid Hills High School), they became more familiar and began performing together, first as “The B-Band” and later as “The B-Band” as “Saliers and Ray”.
Salyers graduated from university and began studying at Tulane University in Louisiana. A year later, Ray graduated from high school and began attending Vanderbilt University in Tennessee. Homesick, both returned to Georgia and transferred to Emory University in Atlanta (where Salyers’ father was a professor).
After forming their duo in college, the Indigo Girls played small clubs in the Emory Village area of Druid Hills, Georgia. In 1985 they started performing together again, this time as the Indigo Girls. In an interview with “Talk of the Nation” on National Public Radio in Salyers said, “We needed a name and looked up words in the dictionary that struck us, and indigo is one of them.”
Their first release in 1985 was a seven inch single called “Crazy Game”, starring Everyone’s Waiting (for someone to come home) on ‘s B-side. In the same year, the Indigo Girls released a six-track album titled Indigo Girls, and in 1987 released their first full-length album Strange Fire, recorded at John Keane’s studio in Athens, Georgia and included “Crazy Game”. In this version, they used the services of Russell Carter, who remains their manager for the moment; they first contacted him when the EP came out, but he told them that their songs were “immature” and they were unlikely to get a record deal. But the album Strange Fire, apparently changed his mind.
Epic Records (1988 – 2006)
The success of 10,000 Maniacs, Tracy Chapman and Suzanne Vega prompted Epic Records to hire other singers and songwriters; Epic signed the duo at 1988 year. Their first major release, also titled Indigo Girls , which reached #22 on the charts, included a new version of “Land of Canaan”, which also appeared on their 1985 album and on Strange Fire . The debut hit “Closer To Fine” (a collaboration with the Irish band Hothouse Flowers) was also included on the self-titled release, scoring 52 on the Popular Music list and 26 on the Modern Rock list. They even spent a week on the album-oriented rock music charts at number 48. At 19In 90, they received a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album. They were also nominated for Best New Artist (but were defeated by Milli Vanilli, who ultimately forfeited her award).
Their next album Nomads Indians Saints won gold at and included the hit “Hammer and a Nail”, the No. 12 track in modern rock music; it was not as successful as their first, which was certified platinum around the same time. The Indigo Girls followed him with with the Back on the Bus Y’all tour and the 1992 album Rites of Passage , which included Galileo , the first of the duo’s 10 contemporary rock songs (No. 10). During their December tour, they invited Siouxsie Sioux of Siouxsie & The Banshees on a few dates as a special guest to sing a few songs with them. They then recorded Swamp Ophelia in 1994, which went platinum on and peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart.
In 1995, the Indigo Girls released a double live album, 1200 Curfews . This was followed by Shaming of the Sun in 1997, followed by Come on Now Social in 1999. Shaming of the Sun debuted at #7 on the Billboard charts thanks to the duo’s contributions to the Lilith Fair Music Festival Tour. than any of their previous singles, although this seems to have been the height of their crossover success.
Retrospective , a compilation with two new songs, was released in 2000, and Become You was released two years later. Their last studio album was All That We Let In , released in 2004 with a tour. At , they released Rarities , a collection of b-sides and rare songs that were partially appreciated by fans who met their album-count commitment from Epic’s contract. In 1999 they performed the song Clash Clampdown, available on Rarities, and the Clash tribute Burning London; The Clash Tribute , both on Epic Records.
Hollywood Records (2006-07)
After leaving Epic, the Indigo Girls signed a five-LP deal with Hollywood Records. Their first (and only) Hollywood album, Despite Our Differences , produced by Mitchell Froome, was released on . Hollywood Records terminated the contract with the Indigo Girls during their 2007 tour in support of the album.
Self-employed (2007 to present)
After parting ways with Hollywood Records, the Indigo Girls announced that their next album would be released independently. Poseidon and Gorky Error was released on by “IG Recordings”, an Indigo Girls label, and distributed by “Vanguard Records”. This album is their first fully independent album since Strange Fire in 1987 and their first double album since Concert 1995 years old, 1200 Curfews . The first disc contains 10 songs accompanied by the band, while the second contains the same 10 songs, only with Ray and Salyers on vocals and acoustic guitar, plus an extra track. At , The Indigo Girls’ second full-length album, Staring Down the Brilliant Dream , was released on “IG Recordings/Vanguard Records”. Followed by with Holly happy days . The duo’s thirteenth studio album Beauty Queen Sister was released on and their fourteenth studio album One Lost Day was released on (both on “IG Recordings/Vanguard Records”). Beginning in 2017, the Indigo Girls toured the US with their music arranged for a symphony orchestra. After over fifty performances in 2018, they released the double live album Indigo Girls Live with the University of Colorado Symphony.
Songwriting
Ray and Salyers don’t usually collaborate on songwriting. They write separately and then work together. There are a few exceptions, mostly unreleased songs from their early, pre-epic debut: I Don’t Know Your Name and If You Live Like That . Blood Quantum , which appears in the campaign Honor: A Benefit for the Honor the Earth , features verses and a refrain from Ray and the Pont de Saliers. And finally, “ I’ll give you my skin” , which appears on both Tame Yourself (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals charity album) and the compilation album Indigo Girls Rarities , is a collaboration between Ray, Saliers and Michael. Stipe is doubly rare as the girls usually write their songs without third party collaborators.

He became famous for his roles in the films “The Fifth Element”, “Rush Hour” and “My Boyfriend Is a Crazy”. American actor Chris Tucker Early yearsChris Tucker was born on August 31, 1971 in Atlanta, USA. He was the youngest son of church activist Mary Louise Bryant and cleaning business owner Norris Tucker. In addition to Chris, the family had six more children. To attract attention at home and at school, the boy often resorted to humor. He grew up in Decatur County, Georgia. The city didn’t even have a high school, so Chris had to travel to the nearby city of Columbia. Chris Tucker in his youth The thought of an acting career came to Chris in 1980, when he watched the film “Psychics in Jail” with Richard Pryer. In 1991, Tucker left his father’s house and moved to Los Angeles, dreaming of conquering Hollywood. Film careerAt first, Chris had to work odd jobs, trying to make the audience laugh in comedy clubs. But already at 19In 1992, he became a regular on Def Comedy Jam. Soon film producers also noticed him. Standup by Chris Tucker His film debut was in the comedy House Party 3 (1994). Then no one noticed the actor. The role of the drug dealer Smokey in the series “Friday”, where Tucker starred with rapper Ice Cube, brought him a little more fame, but the top of the Hollywood Olympus was still far away. Chris Tucker on Friday After considering the situation, Tucker found that the whole world admired Jim Carrey. You need to imitate him in order to succeed! Chris changed his style, combining the fluidity of Kerry’s facial expressions with the constant chatter of Eddie Murphy. 1995In 1997, Chris became a star thanks to the role of radio host Ruby Rod in Luc Besson’s film The Fifth Element. Together with him, Bruce Willis and Milla Jovovich shone in the picture. Also this year, Tucker was lucky to work on the set with Charlie Sheen in the movie Money Talks. Another success was the invitation to the picture of Quentin Tarantino “Jackie Brown”. Chris Tucker in The Fifth Element In 1998, Tucker finally cemented his star status with the role of detective James Carter in the film Rush Hour. The duo of Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan won the hearts of audiences around the world and brought $250 million to New Line Cinema. Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan in Rush Hour However, in real life, the relationship of the main stars was not the same as in the action movie. In the film, James Carter laughed at Jackie Chan’s simple-minded hero.
For participation in the second part of the franchise, which was released in 2001, Chris requested a fee of 20 million dollars. In one scene, he dances to Michael Jackson’s “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough” and copies his dance moves. In real life, Chris was a good friend of the king of pop and even before Rush Hour 2, he appeared in his video for “You Rock My World”. Michael Jackson ft Usher ft Chris Tucker – “You Rock My World” In 2007, Rush Hour 3 was released, and this time there were rumors in the press that the actor turned down the $25 million fee, asking for a smaller amount. A very strange act. Jackie Chan commented on the situation like this: “He gave up money in favor of creative control over the process. Before that, he was modest, but then he suddenly became a star. I wanted to edit the film myself, give instructions to the director. It was a crazy house.” Chris Tucker on the set of Rush Hour 3 Perhaps rumors about this reached Hollywood directors, or maybe Chris decided to switch completely to stand-up, but the next time on the big screens he appeared only in 2012 – in the film “My Boyfriend Is a Psycho”, among stars such as Jennifer Lawrence, Robert De Niro and Bradley Cooper. The film received the Film Critics Association Award for Best Cast and was nominated for an Oscar. Chris Tucker in My Boyfriend Is a Psycho ScandalsIn 1997, after filming Money Talks, Chris Tucker joined the religious community of born-again Christians. Chris Tucker in “Money Talks” In 2005, Georgia police arrested the actor for speeding – he was driving 109 miles per hour. Tucker explained the violation by being late for church.
