Virtual Option / Greenbush Virtual Academy Partnership for 2022-23

  • Greenbush Virtual Academy Partnership for 2022-23
  •

Blue Valley has again entered into a partnership with Greenbush Education Service Center’s Virtual Academy for the 2023-24 school year. Blue Valley students in grades K-8 have an opportunity to enroll in the Greenbush Virtual Academy (GVA) for the 2023-24 school year. GVA is fully accredited by the Kansas State Department of Education and has administered a virtual program for several years. Last year, GVA partnered with nearly 90 districts across the state to offer an all-virtual option to Kansas students.

GVA is a full-time virtual alternative to in-person attendance where students remain enrolled as Blue Valley students. For the 2023-24 academic year, we are asking families to make a commitment to remain in GVA for the entire school year. There will not be an option to switch back and forth between GVA and in-person learning.

The GVA enrollment window will open on Monday, March 6th at 8:00 am and close on Friday, March 31st at 8:00 am. No registrations will be accepted after this date due to the timeline Blue Valley needs to share student enrollment numbers and student information with GVA to ensure they can staff accordingly based on state-wide enrollment numbers.

Please complete the GVA application form online. The application will not open until March 6th at 8:00 am.

  • Students must be Blue Valley district residents to apply. Proof of residency documents will be required, as with typical registrations.

Families who would like to take advantage of this option for the school year will need to commit to enrolling in GVA for the entire school year. This is a full-time option only. No partial enrollments are allowed. Students will remain officially enrolled in Blue Valley schools and will continue to receive general information from their home school.

  • The GVA’s program is a 100 percent online, almost entirely, asynchronous learning experience for middle school students. This means that students will have some flexibility as to how and when they complete work. Content delivery is primarily asynchronous in nature and entirely online. 6th and 7th grade students have daily synchronous morning meetings with GVA staff that will be held Monday-Thursday. These meetings are optional but encouraged. Teachers and a GVA Academic Advisor will be available for office hours for students to offer support. Students can expect to be in online classes with other students from across the state of Kansas. Blue Valley students will not all be in the same class(es.)

  • The GVA’s program is a 100 percent online, almost entirely, asynchronous learning experience for middle school students. This means that students will have some flexibility as to how and when they complete work. Content delivery is primarily asynchronous in nature and entirely online. At the middle school level, daily synchronous morning meetings with GVA staff will be held Monday-Thursday. These meetings are optional.  Teachers and a GVA Academic Coach will be available for office hours for students to offer support. Students can expect to be in online classes with other students from across the state of Kansas. Blue Valley students will not all be in the same class(es.)

  • Both the K-5 and 6-8 programs are tailored to Kansas state standards. GVA uses curriculum from the  Florida Virtual School (FLVS) for students in K-5. For middle school, GVA uses the Edgenuity curriculum for asynchronous content and delivery. Blue Valley will administer all local and state assessments. Some of these assessments cannot be facilitated online and may require students visiting a Blue Valley facility to test.

  • Elementary students will take English language arts, math, social studies, science and one special per semester. Elementary students will take art first semester and physical education  the second semester.

Middle school students will take English language arts, math, social studies and science as their core classes. Middle school students will select two elective courses from the list below per semester. Middle school students will focus primarily on core content for the first 12 weeks of the semester and then electives for the final 6 weeks of each semester. Upon completion of the enrollment families will be contacted by GVA Academic Advisor to determine which electives students will enroll in for the virtual option.

  • GVA teachers are fully licensed through the Kansas State Department of Education.

  • Counseling and other general education student support services will be provided by Blue Valley staff.

  • GVA’s academic calendar is similar to Blue Valley’s calendar but does vary slightly. The GVA calendar will be available on their website.

  • Students will need the use of a laptop or desktop computer. Tablets are not recommended. Students will be able to request a device from Blue Valley as needed.

  • Middle school students will not be eligible for Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) sanctioned activities like sports or plays, as those require in-person attendance per KSHSAA.

  • GVA will hold parent-teacher conferences and determine grades. These grades will be transferred to a Blue Valley report card and will become part of a student’s permanent Blue Valley record.

  • Students in the Chinese Immersion program will not be provided with Chinese language lessons.

  • Families who select this option will pay the learning resource fee required of all Blue Valley enrolled students.

  • Students with an IEP or English Language Learning Plan will receive their services through Blue Valley. Remote accommodations and modifications to the general education curriculum will be made by teachers and paraprofessionals contracted with Blue Valley. Special education classes required for FAPE will be provided in the brick and mortar home building. Additional information will be provided once enrolled.

  • Specific support for students enrolled in the asynchronous virtual option will be determined by the homeschool IEP Team. The IEP Team will include both the home school case manager and any special education certified staff member who is providing remote accommodations and modifications to virtual classes. While the case manager will not change, the accommodations and modifications to the general education materials will be made by a special education teacher and/or paraprofessional contracted by Blue Valley but not assigned to the home school.

  • Being a parent is the most important job there is. The free, voluntary Blue Valley Parents as Teachers program is designed to help district families with children birth to age 36 months.

From the beginning, the Blue Valley Parent Educators support parents with the knowledge and skills to do a good job. As their child’s first teachers, parents make a difference.

For parents with a concern about their child’s development, hearing or vision, the district provides access to monthly screenings for all children. Registration in the Parents as Teachers program is limited.

  • The Peer Model Program provides an opportunity for typically- developing children to be integrated into our Early Childhood Special Education classrooms to serve as role models for our children with special needs.

Peer Model students provide positive peer interactions, demonstrate play skills and model appropriate language and behavior for children with special needs while in the classroom setting. We have a limited number of slots available for Peer Models.

  • Children who reside in the Blue Valley School District and turn 5 years of age by August 31 are eligible to attend kindergarten that school year.

The K-5 program provides developmentally-appropriate experiences for academic and social growth, including reading and language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, art, music, physical education, health and technology education.

The YMCA provides family-paid before- and/or after-school care at all Blue Valley elementary schools.

  • Middle school is designed to meet the diverse intellectual, social, physical and emotional needs of young adolescents. Academic programs include science, social studies, mathematics, reading and language arts, health and physical education.

Additionally, middle school students choose from an exploratory program, including speech and drama, pre-engineering, family and consumer sciences, computer technology, world language, visual art, vocal music, band and orchestra.

  • All of Blue Valley’s high schools offer a comprehensive secondary program accredited by the state of Kansas. High school students must successfully complete 24 units for graduation. The Course Description Guide provides detailed information about course offerings and other learning opportunities. Course description guides are available here.

A full program of interscholastic, athletic and activities are available. Teams compete in the Eastern Kansas League. Students may also participate in performing arts, debate and forensics, cheerleading/drill team, student leadership, clubs, journalism and honor society.

  • REQUIRED FEES

Blue Valley Schools charges a variety of required fees, which are reviewed annually and revised as necessary. A $2 non-refundable service fee is charged for all debit/credit card payments. The service fee is collected by the third-party processor to cover the processing of payments, similar to online banking fees. Families continue to have the option to deliver check or cash payments to the school office.

These fees include, but are not limited to:

    Learning Resource Fee

(Early childhood, elementary, middle and high school)
Collected at a rate of $115 per student, this fee is primarily used to purchase materials and supplies that support educational initiatives in the classroom.

    Activity Programming Fees

    (Middle and high school)
The activity programming fee is collected at a rate of $25, sixth grade; $55, seventh grade; $90, eighth grade; and $135, 9th-12th grades. Please note there will be a $250 maximum payable amount for families with multiple Blue Valley students. This fee helps support all sports, activities, clubs and other supplemental contract items that require extra-duty supervision from qualified district staff. It only covers a portion of the costs for a student team activity and does not replace fees currently being charged for programs such as drill team, cheerleading, certain clubs or sports.

At the conclusion of the academic year, the activity programming fee may be refunded, upon request, to any student who did not participate in any KSHSAA or non-KSHSAA activity, school club or any other non-required activity which was offered at the school.  All refund requests must be submitted between May 1-31 of the academic year for which the refund request is being made.  All refunds must be approved by the building principal.

    Exploratory/Elective Fees

    (Middle and high school)
Certain exploratory/elective courses include additional fees as noted in the respective Program Planning/Course Description Guides. Fee amounts will be finalized and assigned when official schedules are available in August.

    Fee-Based Programs

Blue Valley offers a fee-based early childhood peer model program. Contact Hilltop at (913) 624-2900 for more information.

NOTE: While Blue Valley Schools receives the majority of its funding from the state of Kansas, the law allows school districts to charge back for certain expenses, including those listed above. District required and middle school exploratory fees will be waived for students who qualify for free and reduced lunches through the Food and Nutrition Services program; high school level elective, CAPS, and virtual course fees cannot be waived regardless of the student’s free and reduced status. Payment plans are also available for families who do not qualify for free and reduced lunches. Please contact your school’s bookkeeper for more information.

The concept of cryptocurrency circulation was developed in Kazakhstan: June 7, 2018, 12:56

ASTANA. KAZINFORM – The concept of storage and circulation of cryptocurrencies was developed in Kazakhstan. This was announced by Asylbek Davletov, Director of the FinTech Regulation Department of the Astana International Financial Center, Kazinform correspondent reports.

“The main objective of the AIFC is the development of fintech, e-commerce and innovative projects in the Republic of Kazakhstan. In this regard, we have developed a concept for regulating the cryptocurrency market,” said Asylbek Davletov at a press conference as part of the international conference “Blockchain Regulation”.

In particular, according to him, this concept should regulate the storage and circulation of virtual currencies through specialized platforms. “We are also expanding the glossary provided for in the AIFC pacts by adding definitions that are often used in the cryptocurrency market, such as virtual currencies, their classification, smart contracts, digital wallets, and so on,” he said.

At the same time, Asylbek Davletov said, with the advent of bitcoins and other virtual currencies, the so-called ICO appeared – the initial placement of coins. According to him, many jurisdictions are currently considering the possibility of adopting appropriate amendments or even separate laws to regulate this type of fundraising.

“We took a slightly different path, studied the current legislation of the US and other developed countries. Today, you know that the USA is the most advanced country, given that there is a whole Silicon Valley there, which makes it possible to develop start-up companies. They have developed venture capital funds. Accordingly, we have taken this path and expanded the so-called private placement regimes, which allow issuers to raise funds by issuing their securities without proper registration with the financial regulator,” he concluded.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Askar Zhumagaliyev promised that Kazakhstan would develop blockchain technology and introduce it into various areas. “I officially declare to you that today Kazakhstan is working on the introduction of new technologies, blockchain technologies. Today we already have concrete implemented projects,” he said.

Day 18. 21.09, Tuesday. Neighbors-shepherds said that it would not hurt us to hurry, they say, the weather will soon deteriorate. Indeed, we sat in one place. The sheep began formation for the march through the pass, and we hurried to go ahead, so as not to go with them in the same formation.

Here, too, Guntuza is wriggling far below and shining like a snake. Pah-pah, there are enough of these bastards underfoot and alive.

Oh, the pass seems to be visible, but how far it is! It seems that there is a path, but we are not looking for easy ways and for some reason we climbed along the crest of the ridge. No other mountain girl led astray from the true path.
( View of the mountains, of course, breathtaking…Collapse )

Day 10. 13.09, Monday. Clear but windy. I got the impression that the Lagizuri gorge is generally windy, and every day fog creeps from below. Shepherds say that fog from below – to good weather, from above – to bad. Monday is a hard day, and even the 13th! Finally, we left a cozy place next to the Lagizur waterfall and moved towards the lane. Chults.

Coming to the upper reaches of the Lagizuri, we realized that it was too late to storm the pass – everything was in the clouds, photography would be unsuccessful. We decided to spend the night under the pass on a flat long ledge (3330 m). (Water is far away. Tired Tortilla was dragged…Collapse)

Foreword. We have become crowded in the Central Caucasus. All more or less “delicious” corners were awarded a visit by us. The high-mountainous Dagestan remained for a snack. Why not?! Moreover, I wanted to Dagestan for a long time. The fact is that in the days of the reign of Tsar Peas (that is, Nicholas II), my distant ancestors were sent to Persia by horseback order through the lands of Dagestan, but only reached the famous Gunib. Whether it was God’s Providence, or the intercession of Allah (I don’t know), but the ancestor was saved from participating in the war with Persia in the form of a disease, thanks to which the family did not stop and successfully survived all the ups and downs of the 20th century. START OF THE TRIP

Day 13, September 23, Wednesday. In the morning Tortilla, having had a rest, was so excited that she agreed to go to the Kargashil Sever pass, thus replacing the Khunguf pass, but on one condition that we would not directly cross the stone dunes of the plateau (the stone “fur coat” of the retreating Bulunga l.).

I had to bypass this plateau on the way up to the confluence of the sources of the Koru river – left and right – to a ford near a large boulder.

Day 8, September 18, Friday. In the invigorating chill we went up the river Charaksu.

Soon the passes to the neighboring gorge – Charak and Charak South were opened.

Foreword. Having returned on September 1 from the first trip, having washed up and having a bit of a meal, we thought about the next trip. Why not wait until next summer? Yes, and the awl in one place began to tingle intensely, calling us on the road. We quickly zabatsal as always a short route, threw backpacks into the car of our good friend, a horse rider, and … forward to the mountains.
